John is so much more...soldier-like, hard-edged here, and Sherlock like a smol detective (ACD Canon like tbh) and you know what that's technically how I perceive them and I feel validated by the pilot lmao
i love the characterisations of them both here. it’s a real different contrast between sherlock and john’s characters than in the aired show. i actually prefer the sharper, more badass john from this.

Martin Freeman would've made it amazing-- we could see it here and it's SUCH a missed opportunity.

AKA the perfect dynamic. It’s nice seeing this interpretation. I’d say it’s more in-line with ACD’s original works than what we got with the BBC version.

Amazing what camera angles and lighting can do... I'm glad they switched him (mostly) to suit trousers tho. The jeans would have been a bit... too much... on the more mature version of a whole year later. Though I think he was wearing jeans in the Blind Banker at one point, wasn't he? I need to rewatch it TBH, maybe the internet skewed my memory of it.

In the books, well, Sherlock actually has a lot of traits we'd now associate with being bipolar. He goes from lethargic with depressive tendencies to hypomanic in one story within the space of a few days and his usage of both cocaine and morphine are both of concern to Watson in the books. I would actually argue that the pilot that was finally aired reminds me more of Sherlock Holmes of the books. At least imho. Especially when you see moments of warmth unfold in later seasons. (He had moments of greater tenderness in the books too but they were not always on display. He was generally fixated on his work in the stories and would even put himself in danger to solve cases).
