    I always loved the Kershaw Knockout and carried one for years. It got lost on a hunting trip and then went out of production. I ended up picking one up secondary again and just love it. USA Kershaws specifically are great knives and don't get the credit they deserve!

    I'm with you on the USA-made front brother. Even though we won't get a USA-made version of the Heist, it's cool they're beefing it up a bit. Washers are definitely the way to go for ease of maintenance. But the KVT bearings are sweet if you want a fidgety knife.
    I love my Bel Air, and the clip is definitely a highlight over the older style you pointed out. That style is a literal pain to use to pull your knife outta your pocket with. FYI when you request a pocket clip replacement, it's 100% free, no charge for shipping. Oh and that Launch 13 is an especially sweet knife 😄
    Love me some ZT of old. The new stuff doesn't quite slap like the old 'built like a tank' designs but the 0308, 0350, 0562 and 0393 are some lingering classics. Would love to see them getting back to making some sweet pocket tanks and doing cool collabs again! Please ZT! 🙏

    The Heist always was a bargain basement version of the Iridium. Never appealed to me at all, mostly because of the FRN and D2 steel. However, by going upmarket very slightly, with G10 and S35VN - now I'm very interested!
    Just a smart move by Kershaw, to fill the 'hole' as far as price point/ materials between the old Heist and the more premium versions of the Iridium, imho.

    I recently got a Leek. I really love it and throw it in a 5th pocket. I flipped the clip. My only issue with it is that if I grip it really firmly, it releases. Yuck to that. Oh, and tip comes out a little in pocket sometimes. Needs a decent. Good size when working in public and my orange version is kind of a friendly color.

    My D2 Iridium doesn't hold an edge well at all, I'm constantly sharpening it... which is good practice but I just don't trust it so it never leaves the house. The Leek has never impressed me much beyond being Made in the USA, but the style of that mint chip finish is pretty slick. As for inexpensive, made in the USA, good blade steel, the Link with 20CV or now with Magnacut, is still a steal (even if the handle needs a little more grip height for the middle fingers).

  • @ynotjf

    S35v VS M390? Edge retention is king so I prefer M390. Both require diamond sharpeners so the slight difference in ease of sharpening S35v makes little difference. However, both steels performance are dependent on hardness or heat treat so Rockwell hardness will dictate which steel to choose, all things being equal I’d take the M390..

    M390 is my favorite blade steel but depends the blade it's on. I like M390 for a thin slicer and s35v more for bit thicker blade because it's easier to sharpen. If the blade is thin the M390 is easy to sharpen and out performs the s35v.

    There are a handful of companies now giving Benchmade a real run for the money. I love Axis/Crossbar locks but Benchmade prices and designs are really pushing me and other users to other options like these. I have the Scharade budget crossbar knife and its great. Sog XR lock is also pretty good and the new Ganzo/FB models with a crossbar lock and bearing are very nice budget options. I also see SRM, Beshtech, Kansept and other retrofitting models with the crossbar lock.

    Great Kershaw knife, buuuut an exclusive should stand out, such as a blacked out blade, marbled carbon fiber scales etc. maybe add a flipper. Agree on the bronze washers too. Not sure if I’d buy this and I am trying to stay with buy America. Kershaw needs to step it up some. Thanks for the video.

    G'day Aaron, the Heist reminds me of the BM Freek, which I get on "very" well with, (and didn't have such a disproportionate "butterfly tax"), so no reason to think the upgraded Heist wouldn't be a great value choice. Also, not absolutely necessary, but concur, I reckon the understated accents are a nice touch.
    Personally, S30 and 35 are the sweet spot. Sure I'd find it interesting, though I've never found the need to "up the ante" in terms of price and sharpening of S20 or M390. Likely Magnacut will become more and more affordable as time goes on, ...... if that comes to fruition, a dabble with it is on the cards ; )
    Pocket clips; well, why didnt they just do it right first time, or at least early on. In fairness, they are now addressing the error of their ways ; ) And furthermore, plenty of others could do with the same "catch up" strategy ; ) Cheers Duke.

    After watching your demonstration of the leek I immediately went to my leek collection and using the thumb studs none failed to engage the liner or frame lock. Perhaps they changed something?

    Great video as always, Aaron. Question could you just swap out the KVT bearings for bronze washers since you have a preference for the washers? I’m just wondering if you could just disassemble it. Remove the bearings and replace them with washers.

      I’m not sure about the tolerances, but you might be able to and again like the pocket clips. If you just request spare parts, they should be willing to send you some.

    Kershaw has always been my favorite budget/mid-tier brand. I hope they do a similar model in the Iridium. I got the topo aluminum 14C28N Iridium and it's pretty legit. I do wish they'd just use washers all-around, though. Might get some Skiff thick washers to replace the bearings on my iridium, though, if they have the right size.

      @MrTuffCookies Місяць тому

      @@powers1776reset True - much more slippery than I'd expected given the topo engraving, because it really doesn't do anything for grip. They should have cut it deeper and not bothered with those few silly in-between channels they put in there.

      Interested to know how the 154cpm compares to the 14c28n.
      Is there much of a difference in edge retention?

    • @barrybueler3356
      @barrybueler3356 Місяць тому +2

      @@daveyboy6985 I’d say it not to much of a difference in the long run cpm 154’s edge lasts around 15% - 20% longer u get 40-80 more cuts before u lose a good working edge depending on your edc use. If edge retention is what you’re looking for the most I’d go with something like s110v,15v or K390 though I’m sure their are other great steels for that guessing google has them ranked somewhere.

    Disappointed in all these foreign made knives. Personally I only buy us made. Recently bought a case Marilla in cpm20v really like it. I have a few Kershaw knives all USA made that are good, some USA bucks, as well as bear edge and bear and sons (great value for USA made). To me I will always spend more to know I’m keeping an American worker employed.

    I'm with you on bronze washers. How about blade weight compared with a Griptilian? I can't seem to find the same handle security with a heavy enough blade. I use my knife at work, one hand open and close with either hand but usually left, dozens of times a day with sometimes oily hands. I've got to replace my third Griptilian and am looking for alternatives. The ones I have are too slick or the blades are too light or too heavy. Thanks

    If I get one of the Kershaw with bearings I will just switch them out with Skiffs. I used to hate when knives used bearings and now it just gives me a chance to put Skiffs in it. They are the best of both worlds and I love my knives with them.
