  • Ontario, Canada.
Several shots of Canadian capital Ottawa are followed by succession of shots of changing of the guards on Ottawa's Parliament Hill - Buckingham Palace meets Windsor Castle scene. Cut to busy streets of Canadian capital - typical American city scenes, wide streets, American cars, tall buildings. A few shots of Ottawa's village street - more European looking pedestrian area.
Boat trip down Ottawa river reveals mixture of old and new in sleepy Canadian villages. Victorian church and modern Canadian houses. Shots of ultramodern dam - part of river way connecting Toronto and Chicago - are juxtaposed with shots of an old boat travelling through remote countryside where people live in the same way as a century and a half ago.
This is Upper Canada Village built as an open air museum which aims to depict Canadian life as it was in the pioneer days. Woman in traditional clothes is seen weaving in front of an old house, 130 year old church, an old farm using horse power for their machines. Horses are walking on 'conveyor belt' creating energy which is used for simple mechanical machines. Various shots of a village.
Various shots of Carnival parade in little town called Cardinal Ontario. Mixture of old and new is seen here as well - American guests on motorcycles are parading along with Scottish pipe band, girl's orchestra, cowboys on horses, clowns... and people having fun.
