Because even if you have the best taste in music, someone out there with a different taste in your music probably thinks you have the shittest taste in music... it's just best not to be a douchebag when can be avoided, and loudly playing music in a space where some people just want to relax in nature and not be forced into your choice in music would count as being just that.
Louder then you want it to be, hmm.. Well, that is usually a sign of distortion, for a speaker that size! The tech most likely compresses the sound at louder volume, which introduces hearing fatigue, because the dynamics of the music gets reduced, and becomes a mush of constant noise, that only varies in frequency, not in volume. The natural reaction to this phenomenon is panic, and you put your hands up to your ears, or turn down the music... A cell phone can give you the same impression of "too loud" even though it is not. Lack of tone in the low frequencies, can also give an unpleasant listening experience. Most of these small speakers rely on psychoacoustics, to give an impression of low end(Bass). This is done by removing musical information from the low end, and replacing it with a sine-pulse that follows the dynamics of the music, but plays in the same tone(the deepest, best sounding tone the speaker can perform) This has the tendency to make the top end very harsh and mushy, subjecting the listener to some uncomfortable frequencies, which has 2 outcomes, the listener gets tied of the music very fast, and while listening gives the impression of a darker and darker sound, because ones hearing is compensating, turning down the higher frequencies(or the impression of them) When looking for a good speaker, keep these things in mind. another tip: Go to a professional music or studio store, have a listen to some true sounding speakers(most users don't know good sound, before they actually hear it). Use that experience to compare with your next purchase. Some things to listen for: #1. Is the sound natural: Does it sound like someone is actually playing an instrument in front of you, or does it sound like it comes from a box? #2. Is the bass tight and truthful: Can you actually hear the bass player, or can you only hear rumbling and pulsation.(The kick is easy for a speaker, as it is the same tone. Listen for the bassline!) #3. Dont forget the mid tone: Does the mid sound any good, are they detailed and interesting, giving you a feel of real sounds, like knocking on wood or kicking a door in front of you.. Or do you just feel like turning up the treble and bass, to rid yourself of the middle tones. These small speakers wont satisfy in all the categories above, but at least, now you know what you should be aware of, and be able to point out some of the quirks, and decide rather you can live with them or not.. It may seem unimportant to the amateur, but you might just end up buying a speaker/speaker's, which only impress you for 5-10 minutes, then you turn down the music, and it becomes background noise, another thing of importance, that most people aren't aware of is, a speaker can actually dictate rather or not you like a particular piece of music, Do to its lack of response in certain areas that this particular track has emphasis on. Best regards: Long term music composer, sound engineer and lifetime student of audio acoustics.
allen j I have been working with sound for over 20 years. been doing sound engineering, mastering and mixing, plus room treatment and live setup, concerts etc.. It has been a passion of mine since I my early teens.
Hey there.. was a nice article but I guess you might know the limits of a Bluetooth speaker due to physical limitations.. I enjoy my Logitech x100 at quite a low volume because they have a fairly nice sparkle to them, okayish midrange skewed to the lower mids and.. bass, eh it's there and I'm fine with it (it's nothing like the gr07 which extends very low in the bass very linearly).. the x100 kind of reminds me of my old Xiaomi piston 2 with slightly less bass extension but more openness owing to the free field. Do the higher end UE boom 2 or ue roll share tonality like their lower end counterpart I have or do they just try to compress and make things louder.
I have never had a single complaint from any wildlife or plant life about playing a little music while camping. I think the real "dick move" is "camping" around a bunch of other people.
Camping in places like the UK is very often done at specific camp sites where there's a fair few other people. It's pretty rude to listen to music out loud at a campsite, certainly after a certain time
+HarryManI3ack For most people, the point of camping is to get away from every day life. So if you think 'camping' is bringing technology with you, I think that is a 'dick move'. I think camping with other people is kind of the point of camping, you know, conversations, singing, campfires.
+HarryManI3ack yeah an what is the difference exactly? No every country will let you roam around a forest, set shop up start huge ass fires randomly. Some people say they think with something they call a "brain".
Finally! Somebody that actually thinks the boom is good! All these bloody haters saying that JBL is better but it aint. I'm a professional dj and I know for a fact that UE are the best brand out there :D
Sam O'Neill hahaha, how exactly does that qualify you to gauge the sonic qualities of bluetooth speakers? Im a nightclub owner..... Does that make me a better dancer than somebody else? Or better at drinking? I have ears too.
I love the Boom2. Play podcast 1hr on the way to work, 1hr music on the way back. This will last for entire week, solid 10hrs. Since it’s used in my car, the volume is loud enough.
A few weeks ago you said that you use the UE mini boom as an extention for your speaker phone for calls and that it worked well for that. Does the Roll work well for phone calls as well or do I need to get my wife a Roll so I can take her Mini?
he has screwed in the bottom part on top of the rubber seal thing. that is why it is wobbling around. the rubber seal has to sit on top of the screw hook thing.
If you press the + and the - at the same time on the smaller speaker, does it say how much power is left like the Boom 1 does? Does the Boom 2 do it as well? This was not a good / serious review guys… I'm a fan, but yeah.
I don't what happened to your UE boom 1 to cause it to wobble around on it's base with the screw! I have a UE boom 1 and stand it screw base down all the time and it's completely vertical with no wobbling at all.
Uhhh the UE Boom 1 does NOT sit badly when its on the hook side. Something is wrong with yours or it isnt screwed in properly. Also i don't see how a WIRELESS BT speaker that you can tavel with is comparable to a WALL WIRED Amazon Echo. Goofy review imo.
Im trying to connect the boom 2 to my pc but for some reason can't find out how. I got windows 10, click notification, connect, press the detection button on the speaker but nothing happens :s Any help ?
The cloth on the roll would totally fray during storage. Its an odd shape so it will always sit in weird angles like shoved in a back pack that would cause the edge to rub even more I imagine
How is this with voice/dialog? I am tired of having to lug around and hook up my AC powered speakers everytime I want to show a movie in class (none of the classrooms where I teach are equiped for multi-media. I have to bring my own :P ). Size of room is about 10m by 12 m
If I didn't have a UE Boom already, I'd be all over that UE Boom 2 in the two-blue-tone color, but 1.) I'm still happy w/ my UE Boom purchase 2.) I really can't justify upgrading to the Boom 2; even w/o full IPX7 certification, the first boom still holds up to the elements well. I left mine out in the rain once, and it still works like a charm. Knowing how good the everyday performance of UE Boom is, I'd definitely recommend the Boom 2 for people who are looking. Also, just an fyi, the screw-in hook on my UE Boom, which again, is a first-gen model, sits perfectly flush with the bottom rim of the speaker, I've always set it down with power button up top, and it doesn't wobble or anything, it stands up perfectly straight, maybe the hook in your unit isn't screwed in fully?? Just a thought.
if you don't use the rubber gromet it sits flush, if you use the grommets it is doesn't. I have 4 first gen ue booms, 2 white/blue and 2 black. they are all identical in this regard. you really want to use the grommets unless you don't use them outside. also, they are pretty damn water proof, if you use the "dust covers". I have submerged each numerous times without incident. the way I clean them is to take them into the shower.
Mega boom. The thing that the UE boom 2 improved from UE boom is just waterproof function, and tap control enabled function, with a bit of loudness, however, mega boom is also completely waterproof, has dramatic change in the bass and also much bigger and louder. It's just your personal preference but I chose the mega. Mega costs 300$ and the UE boom 2 costs 200$ (which is the exact same as the first one). Ue boom is easy to carry but the mega boom is overall better.
The question is though... 2 ue rolls or 1 ue boom? Also i hope they fixed the problem i found with the minibooms. i returned the two i got since a really annoying bug in the app meant once paired after about 2 mins of playing music the sound would mysteriously cut out every 20 secs or so. seemed like a common problem when i reasearched it online.
ElyskeTheDonut Don't believe that there is a 3 tap thing, you can check out there product with their description at the Logitech website hehe, no problem.
My roommate's UE Boom just started buzzing or growling when playing certain bass frequencies. He thinks the speaker is blown. He's only had it for less than a year. Has this happened to anyone else?

UrbanMonsterHigh From what i saw on ue website it seems like the mega boom is a continuation of the boom2 even though it came before it. They look to have the same innards.
My favorite BT speakers are the Oontz angle plus by Cambridge soundworks. They're water proof, sound awesome, and they're really cheap. Way better value than these.
speakers should have a way to use rechargeable batteries and regular batteries just in case your not around a power source and can just swap in fresh batteries
"you shouldn't take speakers camping" - Pretty sure that's the users discretion Also the on the OG UE Boom it does stand flat, you just attached the nub wrong on the bottom!
Boom 1 is IPX4 rated, not IPX7. Also you've put that screw and rubber seal on wrong. It should be flush with the bottom.
+John Jackson I have it and the box says IPX7.
"You shouldn't take speakers camping, it's kind of a jerk move" Yes it is, yes... it is.
+aaron4820 I read it at the same moment he said it...spooky
+Blood Urchin weirdest feeling ever. I have done the same. It messed with your conscious in your head
Why?

@@SuperBradley79 its the best Bluetooth speaker.
I think his regular boom is broken, because it shouldn't wobble like that
mine doesn't wobble either
Yup, I have my boom "1" right next to me and it doesn't wobble as well.
It's not screwed in properly, the end hook on his Boom 1. It's not supposed to wobble.
Mark Geyer Yes, you're correct. The hook is not screwed in all the way, he screwed it out earlier
+ColagamerXD Same here, mine sits fine on either side
Will seems to like to tell people not to do things a lot. People love that.
I got a UE BOOM 1 and mine isn't wobbley
I've had the UE Boom for a few years now, love it to bits- so, so, so good. If it ever breaks I'm getting whatever is the current UR Boom speaker.
I love these speakers, I had the UE boom for a few years now and the bass is just now sounding scratchy. The battery is still going strong though.
Thank you Will, for the comment about taking speakers camping. I completely agree!
hi nice review.. any idea when comes into comparison between UE boom 2 and UE MEGABOOM ??
any significant sound performance difference ?
thanks !
Got the Boom 1 can't live without it now
I love the Boom2. Play podcast 1hr on the way to work, 1hr music on the way back. This will last for entire week, solid 10hrs. Since it’s used in my car, the volume is loud enough.
I have the Boom 1, the rubber stopper goes on top of the screw, not underneath it - that's why yours wobbles, but it shouldn't

Excellent test/review. My personal verdict is I'd rather buy two of the UE Roll 2 than one UE Boom 2. Thanks again!
he has screwed in the bottom part on top of the rubber seal thing. that is why it is wobbling around. the rubber seal has to sit on top of the screw hook thing.

"its a bad design" no you just have it on wrong
How come more portable speakers aren't a big circular surface like the Roll?
I suspect there would be a reason that the form factor is rarely seen.
can u do a comparison video between the UE roll and the Sol Republic Punk
6:20 You did it wrong with UE 1. Screw cap goes in before the plugs, not on top of it.
Great review! I'm getting one now
The cloth on the roll would totally fray during storage. Its an odd shape so it will always sit in weird angles like shoved in a back pack that would cause the edge to rub even more I imagine
3:15 So if you submerge it in a meter of water without the caps on it won't get damaged?
How far will the signal will break ?
nice comparison guys

I got UE Boom and UE Megaboom and UE Mobile Boombox. I might get UE Boom 2
Cool story bro
+Sebastian Bernal yep
Cool. Hope you enjoy them.
***** No bad story :(
SteroidsMakeMeStrong Nope
can you double up them using a windows laptop? does it work in stereo? please answr!
Don't like how the one guy wouldn't even et his cohost touch the speakers.
I love my mini Boom so true it's a great shop speaker. Not sure I like the disc.
What is the audio track played for testing in this video? Sounds like something I would like to have blasting in my car. :D
I have a ue boom 1 and I got it to be vertical just fine
Just ordered my Boom 2 phantom edition today
do u think it would be better to buy 2 100$ speakers vs the ue boom 2?
NOo. Just buy one UE boom2. Thats good enoughh
How to place buttons front or back?
they already have the UE megaboom? They're discontinuing the mini boom 2.

+PeachRobot1000 what? I dont understand what point you're making.
Bells and Whistles? Check
Gets really loud? Check
Actual audio quality? Who cares?
6:13 THAT IS A LIE! mine doesnt roll you probably put it wronggg
Can you pair both the roll and boom 2 together?
Chris Martin yes
No pause/play or skip forward/backward ability on the speakers themselves?
+ElyskeTheDonut If you double tap the top of the UE Boom 2 it goes to the next track, and 1 tap is pause.
+Septimus so maybe 3 taps is back a track? Thanks.
ElyskeTheDonut Don't believe that there is a 3 tap thing, you can check out there product with their description at the Logitech website hehe, no problem.
Recently bought a refurbished UE Boom for $50 and oh my it's loud.
Sir Chasm same
Hey I want to do does the battery indicator show up on Android ?
You could get a good 5.1 surround sound system for the cost of that boom 2.
+Daniel Pendzich good luck taking that with you outdoors
so wait can you connect the roll with the boom together or not
someone please tell me
James Hill yes I think so
yes
Al Vill I've been trying all day, any idea on why I haven't been able to?
No you cant
Can u use it at a party?
Of course
No, only at funerals.
My roommate's UE Boom just started buzzing or growling when playing certain bass frequencies. He thinks the speaker is blown.
He's only had it for less than a year. Has this happened to anyone else?
Love this Channel
what if pinocchio said: "my nose will now grow"?
mind blown
+DoABarrelRolll it'll bust out the back of his head leaving his brains on the wall?
+DoABarrelRolll
Nothing would happen. If it would exist, something like a growing nose when one tells a lie, it would have to be based on chemicals in the body for the body to be able to react. When you are telling a lie, you'll feel nervous and anxious. As Pinocchio will not feel anything when he tells this (as he knows it's a paradox) his nose will not grow. If he really does not know what would happen if he said it, and he says it, he'd feel just as anxious and nervous as when he would be telling a lie, thus his nose would grow.
tl;dr: It depends on his mindset at the moment of saying the forementioned phrase.
Joop S Why are you applying science to a fairy tale...
Just answering the question.
Por favor tengo uno pero paso trabajo para conectarlo en Bluetooth
cual es su pin
In Finland that boom 1 costs only 110€ (≈125 dollars), bought mine about half a year ago. I don't know why it costs 200 in US.
I'm looking for a new Bluetooth mini speaker. These look like contenders
You guys should have also tested the Mega Boom. :)
I have 2 UE rolls which you can sync together through the app. I also have the UE Boom 2. Anyone know of a way to sync all 3 together?
what r the songs/beats called?
Lol watching and listening thru my boom 2 and I'm already impressed and I've had it for 6 hours I had a boom 1 a mini boom before that and most don't know but I had the mini boom version that was Logitech mini boom branded when it was all plastic over probably 5 years I've used these there is nothing better than us booms
Do you have latency issues while watching videos? Cause mine does
I still don't know which one to get 😓 My first thought was to get the boom 2, 'cause I thought it would be be a lot louder than the roll. but then again, the roll is very portable. Also I have an iPod classic, could I use the boom 2 for that one as well? can anyone help me?🙈
hmm wonder how much I'd have to add to make a set of BT Radio Shack Optima speakers. Skipping the waterproof part. They'd just sink.
Can you review the beats pill 2.0
Why no mega boom?
I have the UE Boom 2 and i can kill the battery before 15 hours. It seems more like 10-12. I usually kill it in 2 days.
Buttons like the volume ones to play/pause and track shift would be better than having to abuse your speaker to get it to do things =P
What was that dubstep track?
Der........... idk, but who cares it sounded horrible.
+Karan Chaphekar It was one of the opening to This Is Only A Test they used to use it a lot but only use it occasionally now
+Karan Chaphekar darude islamstorm
What song is that?

I'm looking for a good, inexpensive Bluetooth speaker and I thought that these were both good choices. Also, for anyone whose got both, how much better is the sound on the boom than the roll. Thanks
get the jbl flip 3
I bought a refurbished ue boom and it was half the price of the roll. ue boom is known to have a better sound (and design) quality than the roll too.
Will Holmes...get the jbl flip 3 or charge 3...ue products are really expensive but sounds crap! jbl and bose are the best brands!
what was that song
I want to pair two of the tubular shaped ones together and make Skrillex-nunchucks
Soooo how many rolls does Will now have? ;)
Wat song was played in this
I bought a Bose SoundLink for $99 instead. Much better audio quality that the bigger UE and the price of the smaller one.
Minirig all the way, not only do the sound better but they are much more robust. You see loads of these as spares or repair on EBay.
The bottom of the ue boom 1 doesn't stick out, you just put the caps on wrong
The funny thing is was this volume for the video was playing through my UE BOOM 2...
his UE boom, not the new one, must be broken because I have a UE boom and it sits flat and doesn't wobble when it is standing on either side.
your mini booms strap on the bottom is for a floating attachment
No comparison to the Mega Boom?
UrbanMonsterHigh From what i saw on ue website it seems like the mega boom is a continuation of the boom2 even though it came before it. They look to have the same innards.

My favorite BT speakers are the Oontz angle plus by Cambridge soundworks. They're water proof, sound awesome, and they're really cheap. Way better value than these.
speakers should have a way to use rechargeable batteries and regular batteries just in case your not around a power source and can just swap in fresh batteries
"you shouldn't take speakers camping" - Pretty sure that's the users discretion
Also the on the OG UE Boom it does stand flat, you just attached the nub wrong on the bottom!
