Overall, when looking at the whole Steeler organization, the integrity and wise management, all the players and how Art Rooney and his family knew football, knew how to strive for...and stand by, their teams players... all in that great dynasty were such steady, loyal people, through all the years of never ceasing to give it all they had...Yes, they are, to me, the greatest team in football. Even in the years following Bradshaw and the excellent, amazing Swann, Stallsworth, Franco, etc, etc...when they were rebuilding, you would watch them out there learning the game, then all at once they pop up again. Thanks for being fair and honest in what you see, for acknowledging your 1st team you love the most (the heart) but also seeing what very wise sportscasters and coaches have said that the Steelers deserve praise for the way they held up the game, etc, (the mind.)

The Steeler team from the 70's could be considered the greatest team because of 4 championships in six years but the Patriots are even as a franchise if anything. I am a Steelers fan who despises the Patriots but not so much since Brady left.
I grew up not to far from Pittsburg. I have always been a Steeler's fan and was lucky enough to watch this team. Being dirt poor, I never was able to go see them live. Now that I can afford to go, it just doesn't have the same draw to me. Don't get me wrong, I have will always be a Steeler's fan, Big Ben, the Bus and all of the other greats are amazing. It's just something about the 70's Steeler's, no team seems to have the same mystic.

I was in Basic Training in 1979 Fort Knox Kentucky. Charlie 13 4. And we got to watch the Super Bowl in the Barracks. Senior Drill Sargent Malcom Gryder brought His 13 in TV from home. Ya baby ya Black and Gold till I'm old. 61 years old now.
Sounds like you had a pretty good and decent CO. We had a dip sh## CO. Ft. Dix BT JAN-MAR 1980 They did truck out a huge projector /television so we could watch Super Bowl XVI that night during bivouac in 15F temperatures, but that's only because the whole Battalion was out there, too. We were not allowed any amenities nor privileges until the very last weekend before debriefing. And when I say "last" I mean like the day before we left... Oh! Wait a minute... I forgot about the Boxing Smoker. He did allow us to attend that, but again, that was a Brigade outing, and then he had the sh## PT'd out of us right after marching us back to the grinder in front of the barracks. Our company wasn't allowed to use the day room not one day, and we could look across the courtyard and see Delta through their barracks windows using their day room, playing pool reading books and magazines and watching television after week 4 or 5. Needless to say, our morale was relatively low.

Those Steelers offensive lineman helped pittsburgh set a unprecedented NFL record by rushing for 100 yds a game in 3 consecutive seasons from 76 till 78 . I think that certainly validates them as humiliating some opponents defensive fronts along the way .I don't believe the cowboys stalwarts Harvey Martin "RiP" or Randy Manster White recorded QB sacks in either SB ,nor did all time great Jack Young Blood ,the Vikings purple gang can also attest to pittsburghs offensive line dominance in terms of run blocking in SB IX . LT John Kolb and RG Sam Davis "RIP" LG Gerry Mullins ,RT Larry Brown are 4 of the most underrated, underapreciatted , performers on that Steelers great team . They certainly measured up in elite performance level to those 1960's Packers early 197O's Dolphins ,70's Cowboys Raiders , Rams . Second team to have two 1000 yd rushers in a single season 1976 .That offensive line was unquestionably a firm part of the image of Pittsburgh being a physical juggernaut ,imposing their will upon teams till their body or spirit if not both eventually broke .
Back in the 80's when I was a kid I had this video along with the best ever runners & quarterbacks. All the videos got chewed up in VCR after extensive viewing. So happy to see them again. Go Hawks
Great video! The evolution of that team from 1972-1979 was incredible! Probably the greatest run by a core group of players in the history of the NFL. The Patriots have had a great run but they changed out their lineup a few times (except for the QB).

'76 was a little better. Greatest run ever, by giving up just 29 points in their last 9 regular season games and only 2 TDs total, while pitching 5 shutouts. You'll never see that again. Rooney, Jr. said it was their best team of the era, even though they did not win a Super Bowl.
In the 1974 draft, the entire league drafted 5 future Hall of Famers, Dave Casper of the Raiders and the other 4 were the Steelers first 4 picks( they also signed another future HOFer as a free agent in Donnie Shell) that's how you build a dynasty
I think they were lucky to get past the Raiders in 74 and 75. The Steelers were a much better team in 78 and 79. The Steelers won it all in 74,75,78, and 79. The Raiders won it all in 76, 80, and 83. That’s 7 Super Bowls between the 2 teams in 10 years. Incredible when you think about it. I wish that rivalry could have lasted forever. Those games were WARS. Half of the HOF is full of Steelers and Raiders

I had to go to sleep at 9. Lol. The first time watching them was the Superbowl against The Cowgirls. And, I just fell in love with the Team. It's cool I can relive the 70's. Steel Curtain!!! Even as a Ravens fan this team is in the conversation as the Greatest Dynasty of All Time. The way they won those Super Bowls despite all of the rule changes in the 1970s was impressive.
Andy Russell was one of the veteran hold overs from those really bad teams. Fans loved him because he was a lunch pale guy who brought it every game, even when they sucked.
As a long time fan, I’m very fortunate to have grown up in the 70s and watching this dynasty unfold. The Steelers were very impressive as they were strong at every position. Unlike our team these days, THEY had the right formula. We can only dream of getting this back someday. But we’re gonna need a much better coaching staff than our current one.

I picked up the DVDs a few years ago of the full-length games. Glad to have them, but WOW what a different brand of football. Run up the middle. Run up the middle. Run up the middle...you'll start to wonder if the forward pass was yet invented. Better to watch the highlights or NFL films supercut. Otherwise the average viewer will be bored AF watching that old school smash mouth football. But it IS cool watching DBs man handle receivers. LOL

If you have a team, and they are young n good, there will be a time when you can become a dynasty. But...to actually make it happen, there are a few things that need to happen. First, you have to win when the opportunity presents itself. Example, your team sucked for a few years, then you started winning, you make the playoffs, and you have home field advantage. You must win those games. You cannot get upset. This is important. It establishes a confidence that it doesn't matter who the opponent is, they come to your stadium, they leave with a L. That confidence then moves with you on the road. This is where dynasties are truly built. Once the home field is established, and your team wins more than half its games on the road, you're halfway to a dynasty. Then comes the hard part. Winning the Championship, and backing it up afterwards. This is where dynasties die. But...if you have a strong Front Office, that knows how to manipulate the roster by drafting, developing depth, coupled with team philosophy that matches the attitude and traditions of the city in which they play, your dynasty has a identity. If you look at the great dynasties in sports, the teams always take on the personality of the city in which it plays and it adds to the mystique of team itself and gives the team and dynasty a identity that people can cling to and place its energy into. Example, New York Yankees. Its image is Corporate, Business like. The Big Bad Guys in Suits. With deep pockets, and a fan base that stretches into every corridor and house in this country. There is no inbetween with the Yankees, you either love them and identify yourself with the character traits of the New York elite, or your hate them, and everything about the guys in suits that make all the rules, and break them because they have deep pockets to get out of most situations. The Steelers fit the model of the city itself, and its shown in the style of football the Steelers have played throughout its existence. This is another component of a dynasty. There are a few more, but you get the point. The team in the NFL, that totally missed a golden opportunity to etch their names into the great dynasties of the NFL was the mid 80's Chicago Bears. After they knocked off the Redskins at RFK in the playoffs in 1984, they lost to eventual champion 49ers in the Championship Game, then came back, totally dominate, losing only 1 game in winning Super Bowl XX, they were set to go on a dynasty run, but 3 major things happened and it killed it. 1. Buddy Ryan left to coach the Eagles. 2. The Bears never drafted or signed a "championship" Quarterback. 3. Mike Ditka and his offense never matched the quality of the defense. Therefore, year after year the Bears would win the Central, get a home game, and not reach the Super Bowl, mostly losing home playoff games in the process. The Bears window closed after the '91 season and when you look back, its hard to believe, but easy to see why the Bears didn't do what they should've done. That's win multiple Super Bowls with the core guys from their initial playoff run that began in 1984. So, when you look at the Steelers from '74-'79 no one can say that they did not take full advantage. The Steelers could've won 6 in a row if not for Bradshaws injury in '76, and a brutal schedule and Broncomania in '77. Other than the Chicago Bulls and Jordans chill years in '94-and '95, no other team really had a legit shot at 6 in a row. I'll come back later, and have more dynasty talk soon.

It was the other great teams of this era that they went thru that made those Steeler teams the best..the 70s Raiders and Cowboys were also great teams and Pittsburgh had fo beat them multiple times to win those titles which was the truly remarkable thing about it all..and along with the Dolphins, Vikings, and Rams, never has 1 decade had so many championship calber teams at once

So here's what I want to know and no one ever talks about. In 1976 the Steelers had to play the AFC Championship game without Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier. Fair enough in their loss to the Raiders. But in 1977 they didn't even make it to the AFC Championship. Instead they lost to the Broncos who would get destroyed by the Cowboys who a year later would lose the Super Bowl to...the Steelers. What happened in 1977?

They left out how racist & hateful Pittsburghers are...even though he had them winning games people were calling in & mailing in death threats to Three Rivers....because a Black dude was leading their beloved team. As a long time fan, I’m very fortunate to have grown up in the 70s and watching this dynasty unfold. The Steelers were very impressive as they were strong at every position. Unlike our team these days, THEY had the right formula. We can only dream of getting this back someday. But we’re gonna need a much better coaching staff than our current one.
I was born just outside of Pittsburgh in 1974 and then moved to just outside of Chicago in 1985. I love football.

People need to remember or be made known that this era of the nfl was vicious take your head off football (offense and defense lol). And Terry Bradshaw was effectively their OC, for he called his own plays, reading an array of defenses by some of the best DC's...ever. Say what you will about tom (better protected by the nfl than the presidents s s) brady being the goat imho he wouldn't have lasted long in that era like he has in the touch football era. I'll take TB over tb any day of the week...Not even close

I picked up the DVDs a few years ago of the full-length games. Glad to have them, but WOW what a different brand of football. Run up the middle. Run up the middle. Run up the middle...you'll start to wonder if the forward pass was yet invented. Better to watch the highlights or NFL films supercut. Otherwise the average viewer will be bored AF watching that old school smash mouth football. But it IS cool watching DBs man handle receivers. LOL

If you have a team, and they are young n good, there will be a time when you can become a dynasty. But...to actually make it happen, there are a few things that need to happen. First, you have to win when the opportunity presents itself. Example, your team sucked for a few years, then you started winning, you make the playoffs, and you have home field advantage. You must win those games. You cannot get upset. This is important. It establishes a confidence that it doesn't matter who the opponent is, they come to your stadium, they leave with a L. That confidence then moves with you on the road. This is where dynasties are truly built. Once the home field is established, and your team wins more than half its games on the road, you're halfway to a dynasty. Then comes the hard part. Winning the Championship, and backing it up afterwards. This is where dynasties die. But...if you have a strong Front Office, that knows how to manipulate the roster by drafting, developing depth, coupled with team philosophy that matches the attitude and traditions of the city in which they play, your dynasty has a identity. If you look at the great dynasties in sports, the teams always take on the personality of the city in which it plays and it adds to the mystique of team itself and gives the team and dynasty a identity that people can cling to and place its energy into. Example, New York Yankees. Its image is Corporate, Business like. The Big Bad Guys in Suits. With deep pockets, and a fan base that stretches into every corridor and house in this country. There is no inbetween with the Yankees, you either love them and identify yourself with the character traits of the New York elite, or your hate them, and everything about the guys in suits that make all the rules, and break them because they have deep pockets to get out of most situations. The Steelers
fit the model of the city itself, and its shown in the style of football the Steelers have played throughout its existence. This is another component of a dynasty. There are a few more, but you get the point. The team in the NFL, that totally missed a golden opportunity to etch their names into the great dynasties of the NFL was the mid 80's Chicago Bears. After they knocked off the Redskins at RFK in the playoffs in 1984, they lost to eventual champion 49ers in the Championship Game, then came back, totally dominate, losing only 1 game in winning Super Bowl XX, they were set to go on a dynasty run, but 3 major things happened and it killed it. 1. Buddy Ryan left to coach the Eagles. 2. The Bears never drafted or signed a "championship" Quarterback. 3. Mike Ditka and his offense never matched the quality of the defense. Therefore, year after year the Bears would win the Central, get a home game, and not reach the Super Bowl, mostly losing home playoff games in the process. The Bears window closed after the '91 season and when you look back, its hard to believe, but easy to see why the Bears didn't do what they should've done. That's win multiple Super Bowls with the core guys from their initial playoff run that began in 1984. So, when you look at the Steelers from '74-'79 no one can say that they did not take full advantage. The Steelers could've won 6 in a row if not for Bradshaws injury in '76, and a brutal schedule and Broncomania in '77. Other than the Chicago Bulls and Jordans chill years in '94-and '95, no other team really had a legit shot at 6 in a row. I'll come back later, and have more dynasty talk soon.

It was the other great teams of this era that they went thru that made those Steeler teams the best..the 70s Raiders and Cowboys were also great teams and Pittsburgh had fo beat them multiple times to win those titles which was the truly remarkable thing about it all..and along with the Dolphins, Vikings, and Rams, never has 1 decade had so many championship calber teams at once

So here's what I want to know and no one ever talks about. In 1976 the Steelers had to play the AFC Championship game without Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier. Fair enough in their loss to the Raiders. But in 1977 they didn't even make it to the AFC Championship. Instead they lost to the Broncos who would get destroyed by the Cowboys who a year later would lose the Super Bowl to...the Steelers. What happened in 1977?

They left out how racist & hateful Pittsburghers are...even though he had them winning games people were calling in & mailing in death threats to Three Rivers....because a Black dude was leading their beloved team. @PaulGreen11 • That wasn't dirty. The ref was standing right there. Late hits was called in the 70's. This was NFL films recording of it in semi slow motion. Seeing the actual NBC TV view of it at normal speed and it is not that egregious.
