    Description:
    Mass Effect Legendary Edition is a remastered compilation of the video games in the Mass Effect trilogy: Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3. It is being developed by BioWare with assistance from Abstraction Games and Blind Squirrel Games, and published by Electronic Arts. All three games were remastered, with visual enhancements, technical improvements, and gameplay adjustments. Mass Effect, the first game of the trilogy, has received more extensive upgrades than its counterparts, specifically with regard to combat mechanics, vehicle handling, and loading times.
    Development on the Legendary Edition remasters commenced in 2019 under the direction of Mac Walters. Although BioWare initially considered other alternatives, they ultimately decided to approach the project as a remaster as opposed to a remake in order to preserve the original trilogy experience. The compilation was announced on November 7, 2020, and released on May 14, 2021 for Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
    The compilation also includes almost all single-player downloadable content (DLC) that was originally released for each game, such as promotional weapons, armors, and packs. Set in the Milky Way galaxy within an alternate universe during the 22nd century, the trilogy consists of action role-playing games in which the player assumes the role of Commander Shepard, an elite human soldier who must unite the galactic community against an impending threat. Shepard is a customizable character whose morality is determined by the player, and during each game, the player makes choices that can impact the story in various ways. These choices and consequences can be carried forward through the trilogy.

    I love the Quarians and the Krogan. Their past is inherently flawed and now they are people paying for the mistakes of their ancestors and just trying to survive. I love their backstories, lores and cultures. Just so insanely well thought out.

    Quarian population is 17 million: That doesn't seem to bad, they were supposed to be on the verge of extinction
    For some comparison, the population of Tokyo is 37 million

    • @ShiningLight

      From the tens of billions they were pre-war, it isn't that high either.

    • @Marshall_Thompson
      @Marshall_Thompson 3 роки тому +19

      Tokyo is one city on a world of seven billion. If a crisis event were to whittle our population down to 37 million in only 300 years, we would view ourselves as incredibly endangered. That's way beyond "save the whales" numbers. Same thing with the Krogan. When you hear that there are still a few billion of them in the galaxy left, you think "well that's not so bad", until you consider that the Genophage allows maybe one child for every female in a breeding cycle, and the Male-Female ratio is VERY predominantly male, you realize that they are slowly dying off, especially since a lot of them tend to die before they can hook up.

    Its explained in the codex at some point so ignore this if you were just being rethorical. The reason Quarians can't just colonize other worlds is because of their non existent immune system. They thrived on their own planet because insects and bacteria don't exist so its hard to find similar planets that evolve and developed this way that can accommodate them.

    • @GlennWH26
      @GlennWH26 3 роки тому +9

      Also, several attempts by the quarians to establish a colony were blocked by the Council awarding colonization rights to another species. Once, they established a colony without securing permission first (hoping for "It's easier to get forgiveness than permission" to apply), only for the turian fleet to show up and evict them for 'illegal occupation.' The Council then turned around and granted colonization rights to the turians.
      It sucks to be the Space Roma.

    27:00 the reason, I think, why the Quarians decided to act against Geth was also of political and economic importance. The Quarians were part of the Citadel, thus subject to the laws against AI. If they went ahead, the Citadel would have aimed a weapon against them (most likely). They were sandwiched between the Terminus Systems (bad bois), the Batarian Hegemnoy (bad bois), The Citadel (meh bois), and intergalactic space (their best neighbor). So... you can see why they wanted to be buddies with the Citadel. There was paranoia, but also geopolitical reasons.

      I feel like the council is a bit more....accepting, if the quarians did speak with the Geth and they started working together, im sure (after many tense conversation( the council would have left them alone. It's not really the quarians fault that the Geth get smarter the closer together they are (probably an oversight on someone's end) but like tali said they are sentient. They have potential and use, that's what all species on the citadel are there for.

    Fun fact, Tali Zora is around 22 years old in this game, while Wrex is something between 700 and 2000 years old. Both characters ages are unstated in the game, but it really does inform on their characters when you look at them through the lens of their ages

      Incorrect actually. Tali is 22 in Mass Effect 1, having been born in 2161. There's a timeline on the Mass Effect wikia which lists character birth dates and other important information, as well as just background lore dates and stuff.

    • @KingAce595

      @@StarfallShadow It may have been retconned, or I'm miss-remembering, but I swear when it first came out I read something about her being essentially a child prodigy turned Soldier/Galactic hero. I guess it would make sense though, a teenager in that situation might have caused some backlash, and been quietly retconned to young adult.
      The idea that Krogan don't physically age isn't really negotiable for me though. It makes sense, between the redundant nervous system, and regenerative abilities capable of keeping them fighting briefly after brain-death, the only thing that can kill them is anything physically capable of doing it

    • @StarfallShadow
      @StarfallShadow 3 роки тому +2

      @@KingAce595 Krogan for sure age physically. It's why the genophage was implemented. Krogan kept having thousands of babies that mature more rapidly physically than other races, which gave them overwhelming numerical superiority during the Krogan Rebellions.

    • @KingAce595
      @KingAce595 3 роки тому

      @@StarfallShadow We also know that they were killed by predators, then each other more often than anything else, before they were afflicted with the blood rage that makes them so likely to fight people. This means that accidental deaths, and death by disease are both out due to durability and regenerative ability. Now when yo look at aging, the entire process is just your cells loosing the ability to continue dividing into health cells over time. With that said, let's take a look at some of the oldest krogan we've heard of. We hear that matriarch Atheda's father was alive during the Rachni Wars, so over 1000 years, Patriarch was around during the early days of the rebellions, so over 1000 years. And lastly, Wrex never says anything outright, but he hints at knowing what his people were like before the genophage, meaning over 1000 years. Now, as for your bit about how the genophage is killing them off, it's not. It's the fact that they all run off to be mercs, Wrex even says that one. So to round out my statement, the Krogan may not be immune to aging, but they also clearly haven't found their Max age yet.

    Tali is one of my favorite characters of the series. While I don't agree with what the Quarians did I definitely understand why they did it. And it kind of shows some of the double standards of the galaxy that the Turians and Salarians and heroes for what they did to the Krogans and the Quarians are pariahs. I know it is not the same but it is not too different either.
    One of the reasons the Quarians probably did what they did was fear of a galaxy-wide threat like the Krogan or Rachni, both ironically being accidentally triggered by Salarians. It was based on paranoia and fear, but not entirely unfounded either.
    I also like the Quarians as a people. They are very close-knit and loyal and generally are pretty good people. There are definitely worse species overall. I also their resourcefulness and independence.
    They made a mistake for sure, but they and their descendants are still paying for that mistake and are treated as second-class citizens by the galaxy at large.
    Plus Tali is best girl. I love her.

    On the quarian/geth conflict, I'm kinda divided, but I also fall more on the geth-favoring sided of things. I understand where the quarians were coming from. I mean, you create a manual labor force, and suddenly, they start asking existential questions. As Tali said, it caused a panic, and so a "deactivation" of all geth was called for. If all computers in the world suddenly started asking "Am I alive?", I can guarantee that most people still wouldn't immediately think of computers as people.
    However, morally, and ethically, I agree that once a computer becomes a person, if you try to exterminate them, they have a right to defend themselves to the last. So, I can not say that the geth were in the wrong, period.
    On the krogan issue... That one is a LOT more complex. So I love it. Any story that can make you look at a situation and go, "Would I have made the same choice in that situation? And if I did, could I have lived with myself afterward?" is a game worth remembering.

    It's stated that a female Krogan can have as many as 1,000 offspring in a single breeding cycle. So the Genophage's effect of pinning the offspring viability to 1 in 1,000 basically means they can now only have one child at a time. Of course, it should be noted that females are very rare, and that male Krogans are predisposed towards fighting causing them to have a high mortality rate.

I love the female shep as renegade though, she delivers snarky and cocky renegade lines so fucking well. Maybe when you finish the series try to play renegade on your own time as femshep, it's worth the different perspective in seeing what changes when you're a hothead lol.
    Also i suggest turning down the music a bit so the character voices are a bit more clear, some of them are somewhat drowned out by the music at times, your volume seems fine though.

    If the Geth weren't our enemies, I would have probably sided with them against the Quarians. Tali said they "didn't have another choice" while in fact they had several options but instantly proceeded to unprovoked genocide.
    Hell, I would even have forgiven it, if she at least regretted it, but she thinks that the Quarian were right in attacking the Geth for the crime of thinking, and you can't change her mind, so it's a no no for me.

    • @Terron7979
      @Terron7979 3 роки тому +2

      Yeah, it really sours my opinion on Tali in general. I get that she's raised in a pretty desperate society and has been taught her entire life that the Geth are at fault, but still I think the Geth are ultimately in the right. They have a right to defend themselves from what was essentially an attempted genocide by the Quarians.

    • @orkiso1
      @orkiso1 3 роки тому +4

      Ehh it's not so black and white, the moment they realized the geth had intelligence they were completely screwed in so many ways. Both internally within their people and globally, risking response from the rest of the galaxy. The genocide of either species was inevitable. They acted first but the geth ended up doing the successful genocide.

    • @Brinelious
      @Brinelious 3 роки тому

      Maybe so, but does that make it right that their attempted genocide ended in their actual genocide and also defacto exile from galactic civilization?

    • @ShiningLight
      @ShiningLight 3 роки тому +3

      @@Brinelious no, it doesn't make it right, but Karma is ironic that way. Is it just me, or is it weird that this game does not capitalize the names of the alien races? It makes the text harder to read for me. Maybe that's just because I'm a german? Or rather a German :-)

    • @zetsupetsu6051
      @zetsupetsu6051 3 роки тому +4

      It's grammatically correct to not capitalize the species name since its a common noun. Same reason "human" isn't capitalized either. Same rule should apply to the alien races.

    • @raphaelkirschke3194
      @raphaelkirschke3194 3 роки тому

      But not if you consider alien races similar to nationalities, right? I feel like most sci-fi franchises handle it that way ("a Klingon, a Romulan and a Cardassian walk into a bar...")

    • @zetsupetsu6051

      @@raphaelkirschke3194 they're not nationalities. They are species/race.
      German is capitalized because it's a proper noun, a man (common noun, human) from the country Germany.
      So in this sense, if we apply it to aliens, a turian from Palaven. A quarian from the Rayya, a krogan from Clan Urdnot, etc.
      Ultimately, both approaches can be correct since there really isn't a rule for this anyway as it's fictional.
      But Mass Effect's approach is more realistic in the sense that aliens are already the norm in the galaxy that they are considered common nouns instead of Proper nouns.

  • @StarfallShadow
    @StarfallShadow 3 роки тому +2

    Yeah Mass Effect is not content to hand wave away things as mere gameplay. Almost everything in-game as a logical lore explanation behind it.
