Ding is rank #3 in the world for Classical, rank #2 for Rapid. He was always going to give Hikaru a really tough match, even in blitz. But I'm really surprised at how good he did in 1+1. Hikaru ended up winning that portion, but only barely.
The amount of Hikaru hate in the comments and through the match was crazy. When he wins in blitz people will say he'll get destroyed in classical; when he wins in any match people will say he gets owned by Magnus. There's really no need for the useless hate, Hikaru won't see it lol.

I mean it isn't like Ding is a slouch. I think Hikaru gets so many props for his speed chess but it's really his match play in general that is great. Even matches against Magnus in slower time controls, who Hikaru historically has a rough time against in tournament play, he gives him a run for his money with nobody thinking he can't win.
Ding is certainly a bit underrated and might even win candidates in the future. He has put down players like Magnus and Hikaru positionally and at his best is a really formidable player. Ding certainly had better positions in this match and showed stronger positional play than Hikaru. In my opinion he played better chess but was unable to capitalize and Hikaru simply is the speed demon and ultimate defender. I say this while I hoped Hikaru would win. Ps. Insane match
I really dont think Ding is underrated. A lot of people were expecting for either Ding or Fabi to challenge Magnus for the title even after Nepo won the candidates

You can make the claim that Hikaru is the Blitz GOAT, but only online. Magnus takes it OTB, as he's higher rated (both current and peak) and he's won the World Title 7 times. Hikaru hasn't even won one.
Nakamura has a super strong resolve to keep winning these matches and Titled Tuesdays even though he's already made plenty of money from playing online (not to mention his streaming).

I believe it would be a great improvement if the board displayed to hundreds of thousands of us on UA-cam (either LIVE or during REPLAY) didn't have the commentator's Mouse Arrow and Mouse Hand buzzing like a bee all over the board. Is there a way to allow the potential piece movement arrows to get displayed, without showing the audience the _hovering_ mouse? Prodigies aren't born they are made. Anyone can work hard and become good at anything including chess. You may not become a GM but you can get good. Or if you have great training from a very early age and all the right resources maybe you can be one of the best. The Curry brothers in the basketball, the Williams sisters in tennis, the Polgar sisters in chess... it's nurture > nature and a lot of hard work and a genuine love of the thing they are being steered towards doing from a young age.
Yea, I never really liked how Armageddon works. Plus, only a 1 minute deficit for draw odds? I honestly dont think thats worth. Ive never seen anybody choose white in Armageddon. Draw odds are just far too strong. Maybe if white got a 2 minute advantage. But 1 minute and first turn advantage is just NOT worth giving up draw odds.

Danya also thinks Hikaru is better than Magnus without any increment as well.
