    Tip: You can also very easily play it with any regular deck of cards in a pinch.

      how?

    • @zolikoff
      @zolikoff 2 роки тому +21

      @@d.davids1417 Every player just needs 3 "flower" cards and 1 "skull" card. You can designate it any way, eg. low number cards are flowers, while aces/kings are skulls. The only thing that is needed is to be able to immediately distinguish skulls from flowers. I have even played this game with Jungle Speed cards one time. Uno cards also work perfectly, we usually use the swap-color cards as skulls.

    • @nialls1048

      Though of course if someone with two cards left has played a 2 and a 3, for example (King being skull), over the course of a couple of rounds, the other players know that they have two flowers and therefore no skull (King).
      I’ve been playing with cards rather than buying the game and it’s fine for the most part

      this reminds me of a coin game i once witnessed/played... i was hanging out with these guys and when it came time to pay the bill, someone said, let's play "xxxx".. don't remember the name.. basically everyone puts some coins in their hand.. and then you had to guess the number of coins everyone had in total.. or something like that.. i can't recall exactly.. but it was pretty cool.. i wonder if that variation could be turned into a board game..

    That idea about live bidding rather than going around for raises is fantastic, I'll definitely be trying that next time.

      I've added it, and it's way more engaging (I use turn order to break ties).
      I've also added one house rule that makes the game go faster, but doesn't actually change anything: the ante.
      I tell everyone to ante in first (this is identical to playing their first turn, but it's done simultaneously), and then whoever's turn it is has the option to raise or call.
      So it speeds things up, and adds one more piece of poker flavor.

    Weird, we always played it that the player that did the flipping of cards, (regardless of if they flipped all roses or flipped a skull,) starts the next round as a reward for their bravery! Celebrating that bravery really helped new players not feel so bad when their first time flipping another players cards reveals a skull.
    When they look dejected we just raise a glass and cheer them for getting into it... like you damn well should! :D

    • @Arrowstorm122
      @Arrowstorm122 7 років тому +7

      I think the new edition also calls for the flipper to be the first player next round. And I also believe it calls for every other player to put down their first disc first, then the first player plays one, and then they get to either play another or call a flip. And finally, you don't get to pick the card you lose if you hit your own skull, but just shuffle and pick one randomly yourself.

      Heh, I love how this game has almost developed an oral tradition of teaching the rules, (from various sources,) with out ever actually reading anything out :D

      “I think the new edition also calls for the flipper to be the first player next round. “ - Correct
      “I also believe it calls for every other player to put down their first disc first, then the first player plays one, and then they get to either play another or call a flip.” - Correct. There is a good thread discussing the merits of this rule here:
      boardgamegeek.com/thread/1146928/weird-sentence-skull-rulebook
      “And finally, you don't get to pick the card you lose if you hit your own skull, but just shuffle and pick one randomly yourself.”
      Incorrect, at least according to the most up-to-date version of the rules on the game’s website: “If the Challenger has flipped their own skull, that player secretly chooses the disc they will lose” (page 12).

    So if you've played all four of your cards, you can never call a number higher then 3 because you will always hit a skull? You have to flip over your own 4 cards first, so you'll always hit your own skull, right?

Only if he is eliminated on losing the challenge, the player whose skull was revealed is the next rounds start player. Are there different rule verions or did i get the video wrong?

    Can you skip back and forth between players when flipping cards after flipping your own. For instance, you flip the top card of player 3, then the top card of player 4. Can you go back and flop the next card of player 3? Or is it once you are done with them you cant go back?

    This seems interesting but it is striking me as a controlled version of Liar's Dice. Anyone who has played this can you comment on what this brings to the table over Liar's Dice?

    • @CheshireCad
      @CheshireCad 7 років тому +6

      One might be that it's easier to explain. I've played Liar's dice several times, and each time, I have to re-explain at least twice, that you can't reduce either number when you increase the bet. Then, next round, someone still goes from "three 6's" to "four 5's".
      They weren't even drunk.

    • @Robust_Laser

      Yep. Make sure when you bluff that you can flip over your own cards, somebody else is going to outbid you.

      wait unless you mean like a total loss, in which case, no.

    • @JeremyMcBane
      @JeremyMcBane 4 роки тому

      Essentially. Technically, it means you as the Challenger failed the Challenge. That round ends, similar to if you flipped someone else's skull, the difference is, since it's your skull that you "hit", you get to pick your own card to be discarded (face down).
