Just gonna say these things just in case anyone is wondering: The difference between the normal game and extreme, is that when Jimmy bonks you, he'll only take the spirit box in the normal game. In extreme, he'll take the spirit box, compass, and scrying mirror. (One thing I saw from someone else playing it is that when you lose the spirit box, it can be on any of the store rooms instead of just 1 of them repeatedly) The scrying mirror summons (or calls) Jimmy. Since Hugo Punch is a spirit that's part of Jimmy, he can tell where you are when you use it since mirrors are the gateway between our world and theirs, which is why it shows him at the start and end of it. In the spirit box, when you pull it out, the high static noises meant that the spirit event was where you are at, you just gotta wait or look around that area to find out what it is. He can never be in the stairs, ground floor, or basement, only the 3 main floors. He can get you almost anywhere on the floors, even when you think he might not be able to. Jimmy can't get in a room if you deadlock it from the inside. It'll make your hud go away (like the pause button) as if you're hiding, but he'll just try to unlock it with the key and be unsuccessful before walking off. When you get bonked, he puts you in a room of 3 doors that lead to the 3 different floors. You can choose which one you choose to go out of, by looking through the keyholes and seeing the wallpaper to figure it out. When hiding, you have the closet and bathroom. But if you're in a dark room and he's entering, you only have the bathroom to hide in and can't go anywhere further into it, you're just stuck at the door near the bathroom (can only hide, leave, or scry). Just wanted to leave these things as information and kinda like hints for anyone that plays the game or has questions about a few things
Also, due to the nature of the difficulty of the game, you do have a bit of safety until the game tells you that Jimmy is actually patrolling. If you ever play the game yourself and want to have an easier time, I'd recommend starting from the top floor and grabbing the items in each room there first since it gets harder the more you go on. I believe this is what Markiplier did, actually.
Should add that Jimmy only hides in the bathroom if you enter the closet just as he opens the door. That's why it didn't happen more in this playthrough.
I do even remember when no difficulty could be chosen. It got patched in somteime later- guess some poeple got too annoyed to seaqrch for all the items again and again. xD
i cant imagine how much effort this game must have taken to make. all the different shots they needed to take for each room item and door, all the actors, this is just so insane

this game's sound design is phenomenal. like, i can't stop listening and replaying scenes where you lock and unlock the doors with both the master key and the old timey lever locks for the deadbolts
Phasmo brought me to the channel, but watching you play At Dead of Night originally was what made me come back and check the channel constantly. I love long playthroughs of horror games and At Dead of Night was perfect.

Can’t remember if I commented this when you played this last, but the reason the villain is so goofy-looking is because he’s an homage to a traditional British puppet show for children called Punch and Judy. The performances typically feature a lot of slapstick, with the titular punch often using a club to bonk the other characters. This probably ups the creepy factor for us Brits, esp. when combined with the hotel setting, which I mean, it looks like places I’ve stayed before!! Great game

In case you didn’t know… Using the scrying mirror lets Jimmy know where you are and makes him spawn on that floor. Avoid using it on floors 1-3 as much as possible.
I thought the same thing. The way he swings at her with full force, any normal person would have a concussion or maybe even a fractured skull after just one bonk xD
Fun fact: After you complete 40% of the story, Jimmy’s AI will ramp up in difficulty no matter what difficulty you play on. He will be more attentive and aware of where you’re going and what you do on each floor aka he learns your patterns.
This is my first time ever seeing this, but I feel because it's real people footage. Generated jump scares feel different but the way a person moves and yells at you is a different vibe, feels super real
Landlines don't need a signal. So a person would be able to call out to a cell phone, as long as the cell had a signal. But rather easy for a killer to snip a landline's cable so that you can't call out.
only sad part was the dev being a bit of a dick. demanding anyone that played refrained from spoiling to much about the game. and soon after saying please play it. but dont show the ending :(

Funny things.. 1. Insym saying the exact same things he used to say in his first playghrough. Awesome! 2. I watched Oppenheimer yesterday with my sister, and since she’s not the best in English we watched it in German. And in the German version Oppenheimer actually speaks Dutch! But the person the ignorant American talked to had a Russian accent haha
I refused to watch it because they're clearly priming the public for us to "okay them" using nukes again. It was not justified in Japan and it will not be justified ever! Some lines shouldn't be crossed and nuclear warfare is one of them. Watch "White Clouds, Black Rain". That's the true reality of nuclear warfare. Never again! Screw any government who even considers such an unforgivable act against humanity! Plus, talk about bad for the environment....doesn't get worse than nuclear tests and nuclear weapons. Many places are still uninhabitable because of accidents and tests. I'm all for nuclear energy as a power source, but never again for weapons.
I love this game, I watched multiple people play through it when it first came out. Its so well done. The show is my favourite part :) I also get super anxious every time you get in that lift. The fear of Jimmy being close and turning around to see him looking into the door gets me every time
Have to say now, what I really love about you is exactly this! Not just now just for the ancient old time event you're doing, but even mor especially if games receiving updates, looking into it what's new or better. You are indeed one of the very few who are playing older games again after they received updates. Many games, especially early access/demos and else becoming partly totally different after a few updated, (Best example was Try to Fall Assleep: in the very early verison there was even no voice acting while the sleeping sequenzes, just subtitles. Later whole conversations were voiced) and it's often a totally different expierience.
The reason the spirits did not always go wherever they walked off to and consistently into rooms is the game designer realized talking to spirits in the hall was a terrible idea considering the main antagonist of the game patrols them. A good tule of thumb that should be common sense is check rooms first as they are safer, then check hallways.
About what you said at 1:32:27... Yes, eventually he may have been found innocent, or he would've been acquitted due to lack of evidence. There's also the possibility that they throw him in jail anyway because even without the evidence they believe that he actually did do it. Regardless of the scenario, his reputation is ruined. If he got out, nobody would want to associate with him in any capacity since he's known as a doctor that took advantage of his young patient. He might even get people showing up around him trying to kill him for what they believe he did. There will always be people who believe that he's some sick predator, even though he wasn't.
Correct and exactly what I was gonna say. It doesn’t matter if it’s lies or the truth, being accused of hurting children in any way will leave a stain on Dr. Bose’s reputation that would never go away even if he was exonerated. His life as he knew it was over the moment Jimmy made up that lie. A example in recent memory that I would compare this to is Amber Heard vs Johnny Depp. We all know how Amber Heard accused Johnny Depp of just about every abuse under the sun and how those lies destroyed his life. While most turned against Amber Heard once the trial unraveled her lies, they are people who still believe her story.
"I played it a really long time ago..." Dang, it hasn't even been five years or anything, but the bonks from "a really long time ago" make me feel old now HAHAHA
Amy's sad little voice and what she went through made me so sad. The same goes to all the victims in the game, but it hit me hardest with her. She seemed like such an innocent girl D: Also UGH Dr Boze's story too :( And what a monster of Hugo to be a child doing those horrible things to another young child. So sad. :( (Jimmy's childhood made me really sad too though)
I remember watching another UA-camr showcasing this. He didn' get very far, only uploaded 2 episodes I think, but I was dying for him to finish it and still to this day he hasn't returned to it as far as I know. So I'm glad Insym has played through the entire game so that I can watch it myself, and I gota say this game looks incredible. Massive props to everyone who worked on this game, and I do hope the legend of Jimmy lives on in a potential sequel.

Most the hard work for it is already done: set design, what the characters look like, the story, etc. All that would need to happen is the removal of the bonkening for some points; or a reason for why Maya isn't seriously injured by the bonkening... maybe Jimmy has some control and thats why you aren't killed outright if Jimmy gets you. The only reason I say that last part is the way Jimmy behaves at the start of the game, trying to resist Hugo's influence over him. Thats one of the things I have wondered about; how much is Jimmy being evil VS how much is Hugo controlling him.
This game is so cool. They really managed to tap into liminal horror before it was popularised by stuff like the backrooms. The constant feeling of being watched while you turn corners in these long, quiet, empty corridors... super tense.
This game was super interesting and the characters were really well made, and the acting was great too. Overall 10/10 experience (I’m too scared to play it myself though lmao)
Love the long videos, and I think it's the perfect amount of editing out the frustrating parts. The reason I don't play a lot of horror games is because they're too difficult, clunky, and/or you have to learn game mechanics that ruin the immersion. I'd rather watch someone else play so that I'm not meta-gaming and I can just enjoy the horror.
I really hadn't been expecting At dead of night, it was very pleasant to look at your playthrough again, a favourite game with a favourite channel Sadly I got very nervous and sensitive to horrors last month, so watching it was a big trial :D
I’ve never played this game myself and always end up watching multiple play through a of it, the detail in the shots, the unique play style and the genuinely terrifying jumpscares make this game one of my favourites of all time it sucks it isn’t talked about more
Nice to see this game again! Not sure how I feel about some of the editing recently though. I know stuff like the hallways can drag on a bit, but it also takes away a lot of the spookiness cutting out so much of it. Though the VODS for this really are super long. Must be tough to get the right balance.

1:22:30 It's because you went right. He walked to YOUR right, you are facing the hall. Then you exited the room and faced the door which means your left is what your previous right was, so when you went "left" you just took the same right as jimmy did.
We have to listen to the different sound of closing the bathroom door and the normal door. That’s the thing. The normal entry door sound more like a locking sound shit and the bathroom door only give up a noise of a door closing. Kind of confusing but other UA-camrs fount that out and mastered the game haha 1:53:28
Seeing your playthrough I really enjoy it, but as an experienced at dead of night player I would like to give you some advice. Sometimes you got confused about how he bonked you out of nowhere while you couldn’t see him anywhere. Well if you pay attention to the sounds you can literally hear the floor creek or you can hear footsteps, if you hear one of those two sounds, it means he’s behind you. Same as for when you are in a room and you hear those sounds that means he’s walking by, he doesn’t only talk to let you know where he is, he also lets you know where he is by his walks
Ooooh.... I just realized what this is with that final quote. This is basically Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, but with a modern touch to it. Not going to lie, I love this game, but I'm way too anxious to properly play it. Great playthrough.
i love this game sm; anyone that enjoys this game but doesn't like jumpscares, try checking out contradiction and the shapeshifting detective both by the same people! both really cool and interesting games.
You know, I don't know why I skipped over this one in general. I wonder if it's because I grew up on FMV games like Myst, Phantasmogoria, Frankenstein: Through the Eyes of the Monster But this...now that I've taken the time to watch finally. This is the most beautiful, the most clear, and seamless FMV with some absolutely wonderful mechanics. I am sad I didn't give it more love back in its day. It absolutely deserves it. I sincerely hope these devs and actors got all the friggin' love they deserved! Edit: The friggin' ending alone is just friggin' amazing! I'm assuming a lot of the bugs are just trying to account for all the possibilities and some limitations of the engine. But holy shit. This game did NOT pull punches and I really appreciate this whole playthrough!!!!
Couple of things to note about Jimmy and his alter ego: 1: The Great Hugo literally beat the evil into Jimmy. It's why his other personality is called Hugo _Punch_ . 2: Jimmy isn't possessed by his father. At least, I don't think. It seems The Great Hugo's spirit possesses the hotel itself. It's what causes all the hallucinations and paranormal events, most notably the basement key just appearing on the floor after the hallucination of falling down the elevator. He does indirectly live on inside of Jimmy, though. 3: The ending quote dives into the Jungian concept of the shadow, It's even said by Rose that "Jimmy had been fighting Hugo all his life". She's practically talking about both the father and at that point. Jimmy's shadow is the spitting image of his father: he's a violent control freak who always tries to impress. That's all I got for now. This game is great. I come back to this one every year like it's a movie re-run. Jimmy bonk is one of the most effective jumpscares in a horror title.
it doesnt explain how maya's seeing the ghosts and their memories though, which makes me think that the ending was supposed to be completly diffferent but the dev had to change things around last minute due to not enough budget, either that or he completely forgot what 90% of the game was actually about lol
Here is a hint for people playing the game, the 3 bars in the bottom right will light up red when you are in danger or yellow when Jimmy is near and obviously white when you are safe

Funny thing is the scrying mirror, both in its concept and even aesthetic, is exactly like the one in the devs other game, Contradiction. I guess itll be a common mechanic in their games going forward.
The game has a stellar story of the past and tells it in great way. Maya's presence is questionable, the 'death' penalty is too and so is the ending dialogue between Jimmy and Maya. Maya is def the weakest piece in the game as she has no reason to be running around listening to 'ghosts' (noone would pick up that box from the reception and run around with it to discover ghosts in the first place). Maya's priority would be to either escape alone to get help or with friends and no sidequests for talking to ghosts would be a reasonable activity. There should be no friends getting kidnapped, Maya should be prob a cliché reporter or sth trying to find evidence against Jimmy to have a motivation to talk to ghosts when psycho is running around. Death system is just weird as it implies Jimmy just knocks you out and steals stuff while not tying you down like your friends. If the friends were removed you could have Jimmy being incompetent at tying ppl down so Maya is capable of escaping from capture but with friends we know Jimmy knows his knots. And ending dialogue in the basement (not Jimmy's monologue) should just be rewritten as it's just weird. You have a game that is in 95% a masterpiece at what it does and then the last 5% is the horrible setting with Maya and friends putting all the actions in the question as also Maya has no authority to punish Jimmy with the knowledge gained from ghosts.
Well Jimmy has no authority to lock maya in the hotel.also the spirit box worked when she was standing right infont of it and it turned on bye itself you would be curious.
This game is amazingly well done. By the way, (I haven't finished the whole video yet, so I'm sorry if this is answered later,) but Diazepam is a medication usually used to treat seizures in an emergency - it relaxes your nervous system so you will stop seizing. Hence, why it was used as a sedative in the game - it's a "depressant" class drug, and why the doctor said it was "all he had." Not ideal, but it IS a sedative. And you legally CANNOT administer any kind of medication to a patient if they refuse it. Doctor, while unhinged with good intentions, completely stepped out of line trying to treat his patient, unfortunately

Jimmy's jump scares hit unusually hard. It honestly makes this game uniquely fun to play.

A example in recent memory that I would compare this to is Amber Heard vs Johnny Depp. We all know how Amber Heard accused Johnny Depp of just about every abuse under the sun and how those lies destroyed his life. While most turned against Amber Heard once the trial unraveled her lies, they are people who still believe her story.

I remember watching another UA-camr showcasing this. He didn' get very far, only uploaded 2 episodes I think, but I was dying for him to finish it and still to this day he hasn't returned to it as far as I know. So I'm glad Insym has played through the entire game so that I can watch it myself, and I gota say this game looks incredible. Massive props to everyone who worked on this game, and I do hope the legend of Jimmy lives on in a potential sequel.

I actually think this game probably could get made into a movie one day
Most the hard work for it is already done: set design, what the characters look like, the story, etc. All that would need to happen is the removal of the bonkening for some points; or a reason for why Maya isn't seriously injured by the bonkening... maybe Jimmy has some control and thats why you aren't killed outright if Jimmy gets you.
The only reason I say that last part is the way Jimmy behaves at the start of the game, trying to resist Hugo's influence over him. Thats one of the things I have wondered about; how much is Jimmy being evil VS how much is Hugo controlling him.
One of the most underrated games I've ever played. It's great when you are a bunch of friends trying to figure the mistery and how to elude Jimmy
This game is so cool. They really managed to tap into liminal horror before it was popularised by stuff like the backrooms. The constant feeling of being watched while you turn corners in these long, quiet, empty corridors... super tense.
This game was super interesting and the characters were really well made, and the acting was great too. Overall 10/10 experience (I’m too scared to play it myself though lmao)
Love the long videos, and I think it's the perfect amount of editing out the frustrating parts. The reason I don't play a lot of horror games is because they're too difficult, clunky, and/or you have to learn game mechanics that ruin the immersion. I'd rather watch someone else play so that I'm not meta-gaming and I can just enjoy the horror.

I’ve never played this game myself and always end up watching multiple play through a of it, the detail in the shots, the unique play style and the genuinely terrifying jumpscares make this game one of my favourites of all time it sucks it isn’t talked about more

Not sure how I feel about some of the editing recently though. I know stuff like the hallways can drag on a bit, but it also takes away a lot of the spookiness cutting out so much of it. Though the VODS for this really are super long. Must be tough to get the right balance.

We have to listen to the different sound of closing the bathroom door and the normal door. That’s the thing. The normal entry door sound more like a locking sound shit and the bathroom door only give up a noise of a door closing. Kind of confusing but other UA-camrs fount that out and mastered the game haha 1:53:28

Seeing your playthrough I really enjoy it, but as an experienced at dead of night player I would like to give you some advice. Sometimes you got confused about how he bonked you out of nowhere while you couldn’t see him anywhere. Well if you pay attention to the sounds you can literally hear the floor creek or you can hear footsteps, if you hear one of those two sounds, it means he’s behind you. Same as for when you are in a room and you hear those sounds that means he’s walking by, he doesn’t only talk to let you know where he is, he also lets you know where he is by his walks

You know, I don't know why I skipped over this one in general. I wonder if it's because I grew up on FMV games like Myst, Phantasmogoria, Frankenstein: Through the Eyes of the Monster
But this...now that I've taken the time to watch finally. This is the most beautiful, the most clear, and seamless FMV with some absolutely wonderful mechanics. I am sad I didn't give it more love back in its day. It absolutely deserves it. I sincerely hope these devs and actors got all the friggin' love they deserved!
Edit: The friggin' ending alone is just friggin' amazing! I'm assuming a lot of the bugs are just trying to account for all the possibilities and some limitations of the engine. But holy shit. This game did NOT pull punches and I really appreciate this whole playthrough!!!!

imagine on extreme mode that if you get bonked enough you'll suffer from amnesia and have to start over from scratch...
Couple of things to note about Jimmy and his alter ego:
1: The Great Hugo literally beat the evil into Jimmy. It's why his other personality is called Hugo _Punch_ .
2: Jimmy isn't possessed by his father. At least, I don't think. It seems The Great Hugo's spirit possesses the hotel itself. It's what causes all the hallucinations and paranormal events, most notably the basement key just appearing on the floor after the hallucination of falling down the elevator. He does indirectly live on inside of Jimmy, though.
3: The ending quote dives into the Jungian concept of the shadow, It's even said by Rose that "Jimmy had been fighting Hugo all his life". She's practically talking about both the father and at that point. Jimmy's shadow is the spitting image of his father: he's a violent control freak who always tries to impress.
That's all I got for now. This game is great. I come back to this one every year like it's a movie re-run. Jimmy bonk is one of the most effective jumpscares in a horror title.
it doesnt explain how maya's seeing the ghosts and their memories though, which makes me think that the ending was supposed to be completly diffferent but the dev had to change things around last minute due to not enough budget, either that or he completely forgot what 90% of the game was actually about lol

Here is a hint for people playing the game, the 3 bars in the bottom right will light up red when you are in danger or yellow when Jimmy is near and obviously white when you are safe

Funny thing is the scrying mirror, both in its concept and even aesthetic, is exactly like the one in the devs other game, Contradiction. I guess itll be a common mechanic in their games going forward.

even after rewatching this game for the 3rd time, I still flinch at some bonks
The game has a stellar story of the past and tells it in great way.
Maya's presence is questionable, the 'death' penalty is too and so is the ending dialogue between Jimmy and Maya.
Maya is def the weakest piece in the game as she has no reason to be running around listening to 'ghosts' (noone would pick up that box from the reception and run around with it to discover ghosts in the first place). Maya's priority would be to either escape alone to get help or with friends and no sidequests for talking to ghosts would be a reasonable activity. There should be no friends getting kidnapped, Maya should be prob a cliché reporter or sth trying to find evidence against Jimmy to have a motivation to talk to ghosts when psycho is running around.
Death system is just weird as it implies Jimmy just knocks you out and steals stuff while not tying you down like your friends. If the friends were removed you could have Jimmy being incompetent at tying ppl down so Maya is capable of escaping from capture but with friends we know Jimmy knows his knots. And ending dialogue in the basement (not Jimmy's monologue) should just be rewritten as it's just weird.
You have a game that is in 95% a masterpiece at what it does and then the last 5% is the horrible setting with Maya and friends putting all the actions in the question as also Maya has no authority to punish Jimmy with the knowledge gained from ghosts.
Well Jimmy has no authority to lock maya in the hotel.also the spirit box worked when she was standing right infont of it and it turned on bye itself you would be curious.

By the way, (I haven't finished the whole video yet, so I'm sorry if this is answered later,) but Diazepam is a medication usually used to treat seizures in an emergency - it relaxes your nervous system so you will stop seizing. Hence, why it was used as a sedative in the game - it's a "depressant" class drug, and why the doctor said it was "all he had."
Not ideal, but it IS a sedative. And you legally CANNOT administer any kind of medication to a patient if they refuse it. Doctor, while unhinged with good intentions, completely stepped out of line trying to treat his patient, unfortunately
