Just want to say a big Thank You having found this video. My 2006 Xsara Picasso heater blower had packed up on all bar the number 4 setting. Ordered a replacement heater resistor which cost about £9 and after following your advice it was changed in about 40 minutes. The fan unit just twisted straight out on mine really easy with no lug to faff about with. The hardest part was getting the wiring connector off the old resistor unit as you have to feel your way, whilst contorting your body, on the connection and squeeze both the lugs and off it comes. Popped the new one back in really easy and bingo a working fan on all settings again. I might add there are some sharp bits where your head has to go where the glovebox was so be careful out there. Other than that Brilliant - Thank You!

I looked everywhere on the internet for these type of instructions, none in my opinion were logical and easy to understand EXCEPT for this one. Absolutely brilliant, thank you so much for sharing your video with everybody, first class.

This is BRILLIANT! Thank you for showing and by doing this I saved a load of time, money and effort. The Haynes manual tells you nothing except to take off the lower fascia.
I followed this and by removing the glove box, take off the panel below first, then the door, the 10mm nut and washer below the glove box. Then I removed the 4 T20 screws on the lower part of glovebox and the rubber stopper T20 screws at the top and wit a gentle lift out it came.
Now I could see the motor and a gentle amount of tugging removed the connector and slid it upwards over a cable to keep it out of the way. I used a flat blade screwdriver gently under the lock clip of the motor and it turned easily clockwise. It is as fiddly as anything to get it out but gently does it and it's out of place.
Carefully (I bashed my head and it did hurt!) look and see where the resistor pack is and using one hand rotate it and it drops down enough to squeeze the clips on top and prise the connector off with one hand as there is NO WAY to get 2 hands in here!
I ordered a replacement from eBay and waited overnight, took the dog out for a walk this morning and on return the resistor pack was delivered. Easy to fit in place and twist to lock in position.
The motor is carefully jiggled back into place and locked, connector fitted, ignition switched on and engine running and YES the fan now works properly wit 4 proper speeds which it never did before.
Cleaned up all the bits of the glovebox and replaced in position and checked the glovebox lamp was working. Re-stashed CD's, paper cups and lids, napkins, picnic knife, fork and spoons and replaced the McD's salt, pepper, ketchup and BBQ sauces and we're ready to go.
Thank you so much BlackCatEveG for this as I would have been trying to figure it out for ages!
My Citroen Xsara Picasso, 2.0HDi (90kw) is a 54 plate so 2004 and is our best vehicle for travelling distances and taking our lovely big dog with us too. Off to take it out for a trip now - taraa

A big thank you - AC suddenly stopped working. Got gas coolant levels checked and as they were fine the garage (Kwik-Fit) reckoned it was the heater motor at fault. A browse through UA-cam led me to this video and within no time I had the motor out. Before buying a new one I tried refitting the old one to check I could and amazingly it worked when refitted!
My glove box has an AC vent leading into it but this just clipped out with the help of a screwdriver.
Thank you - super helpful video.

I honestly cannot thank you enough for this. Just changed the one on mine (2007 N86 variant, but has the exact same setup), and I'm just a lowly IT nerd whose knowledge of cars basically used to be changing a tyre, and knowing which liquid goes where.
That said, it's an unmitigated pain in the shoulder to do, but it's done, and I now have a working variable blower again.
If I knew where to send it, there's a pint with your name on it!

Saved me a lot of money, last time the garage replaced the whole unit!
Had to struggle a bit with the tight space but got there in the end!
    Many thanks..
    Terry.

Great help thanks! Re, Terry Crick's comment below, after freeing the motor, I took off the loom connection plug on the bottom right (its on a clip on the bulkhead and can be slid off), the one with a green and yellow earth looking wire in your video, and that made it much easier to get the motor out. Finding the little tags on top of the old resistor pack to squeeze was the hardest part as you can't see and there is only about 1" of loose cable.

If you break the tab when removing the motor (shown at 1 :32), don't worry. When you refit the motor there is a screw hole at about the 1 o'clock position that you can just start a self tapping screw in. Don't screw in tight, it's there to stop the motor rotating

  • @MrTrudgian1

Brilliant, only instructions I could find anywhere. Longest bit was getting the glove box out and working out how to twist the motor. Managed to break the tab but still seems secure, easier for next time. Managed to get my head right under to see the resistor connector which made it easier. Motor working ok on all settings. Thank you! Ps there are 11 X T20 Tork screws and 1 X 10 mm bolt in the glovebox to get it out

Agree with mark R Trudgian. Super, very well explained and filmed instructions. Many thanks BlackCatEveG! I did the same thing and broke tab on the motor, it's an easy thing to do with not much access & lying on the shingle drive. Much easier to do up on ramps standing upright! Motor fixed in place & all works great. Before I started the job I was quoted £200 from local garage to replace the motor because that's the fault. Oh no it's not, it's a £10 resistor!

@@gerrydance49 Could you easily turn the motor clockwise ok after lifting the tab or breaking off the tab ??, It seems pretty tight ? Is there a need to remove the shiny torx screw on the front of the casing as shown in the video. I dont want to remove it and something falls off inside !! Would be great if you could let me know.

    • @gerrydance49
      @gerrydance49 3 роки тому

@@neilsmith666 I did exactly as instructed. The Motor will turn clockwise after lifting the tab, with a little persuasion. I believe I did need to remove the torque screw as instructed to enable me to remove the glove box for full access to motor. Nothing should fall inside. ( put a small rag to stop the torque nut falling behind carpet if you're concerned.) Good luck & let me know how you get on. It is a simple job. Just make yourself comfortable on the passenger floor leaning upside down!

@@neilsmith666 Hi Neil, Hope it all goes OK. Have a good torch, it will prove very useful. Once the glove box is removed. You'll see the motor. I didn't need to be too heavy handed lifting the tab on the motor, lifted it with a flat bladed scewdriver. The motor should rotate OK. Have the paracetamol to hand : ))

the black tab is hard to get at so I threaded a bit of old throttle cable and used that to pull it much easier. Plus make sure you need a resistor pack not a controller.
