ADPTR Sculpt from Plugin Alliance. Is it a GAME CHANGER for mixing and mastering? PART 1

  • "Game Changer" is my least favorite phrase at the moment. But is ADPTR Audio's Sculpt a game-changer?
In this video, I very briefly go through the new ADPTR Sculpt to give you an idea of how the INDIVIDUAL MODULES actually sound and a rundown of the functions. No Plugin Doctor involved.
It's been a deep learning curve for me so please feel free to add any tips or tricks you have discovered yourself, or any corrections in the comments.
In Part 2 I will be looking at the plugin using all the modules together in a mastering session and in the mix.
    Disclaimer:
I am obviously aware that my comparison with an SSL Buss Compressor is a little unfair as the compressor in Sculpt is not modeled on the G Buss or a VCA compressor. Also, in combination with the other modules, the signal can be compressed, and then the transients are introduced or re-introduced using the transient module.
    Chapters:

    12:13 Upward Compression
    18:09 Tone Tilt and sculpting
    25:04 Transient Designer (very brief)
28:09 Conclusion, my personal opinion, and outro

I’ve got this all over the place, channels, groups and master, it’s the tool I’ve been looking for since plugins started, a real game changer and ass saver, get a lot of dodgy old and new stuff to work on and it brings things out that are a lot harder to do with mixtures of plug-ins, I love it!

It's definitely a great plugin, and I agree, for me, it is also a game changer. I love it. Thanks for watching dude.

Thanks for this video...very informative...I also got the Sculpt just recently and cant wait to tweak it...I like that song youre using in your test...sounds like an 80's classic

Hey buddy, thank you for watching. The track is actually something I wrote and produced in 2013, but never released it. I use a lot of my old unreleased productions to avoid copyright strikes. I was going for the 80s vibe when I did it. Perhaps I should consider releasing it now as that whole 80s sound seems to be en vogue.

If used properly it can be great. If it’s abused it can sound terrible.

Thanks for watching dude. Yes you can definitely do more bad than good with this plugin if you are not careful. It definitely needs to be learned properly to get the full benefits.

This is a great review on this innovative and not easy to operate plugin. The level compensation is indeed phenomenal.
The use of the upward compression makes more sense on a bus and not so much on the master bus. It's sucking out the dynamic of your drums and the bass attack of your track. But nevertheless is great to have it in the plugin.
As far as I understood this plugin, with the tone (EQ) function you can manipulate the character of the compression. Like on denise audios plugin dragon fire. There it is called a push-pull EQ. It's pulling or pushing the Eq into or from compression.

Hey buddy, thank you for watching and thank you for your kind words. To be honest, in almost all of the examples, I do push the plugin a little harder than I would in an actual piece of work for a client. The trouble with YT is that it is not always easy to hear the "before and after" so I often find I have to over exaggerate settings to enable people to hear the results on their phones or laptops.

I love the Dragon Fire plugin especially the push-pull EQ function.

Ummm, arent tilt EQs and transient designers largely mathematical (adding & subtracting according to parameters)? Isn't this plugin neutral of non-linearities? I'm not sure how these are so natural and amazing sounding without any kind of special sauce bejng added. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️😂

    • @TheCratesMotel
      @TheCratesMotel  Рік тому

Thanks for watching. I am not a massive fan of tilt EQs to be honest and I am not that fond of the transient designer in this plugin. For me it is all about the compressor. That is what I use most in this plugin. But to have them all in one plugin is handy for sure.

@@marshy_moo Haha. What I really mean is, I try out/demo and use so many plugins, I chop and change what I prefer etc. I guess I have my go to plugins, but the peripheral ones change quite often. Thanks again for watching and commenting. Have a great weekend.
