I used to see this tree all the time in Texas. The counties I found it in were Medina, Atascosa, Karnes, and McMullen.

I’m originally from the far north, and am a huge fan of finding all the medicinal and edible plants around me. So when I came south, I started walking around my Texas farm and cataloguing the plants, and I have a few along my fence! I noticed a whole lot of pollinators LOVE the flowers!!!. It’s always covered with bees, beetles and butterflies.
One of my favorite trees! As a boy in East Texas, my friends and I would cut off the knobs and chew on them to get the "tickle" effect. The trees could be found everywhere, but fence rows were especially productive. Thank you, birdies! :)
I was excited when I saw this but turns out I have Common Hackberry instead. Still, a cool looking thing to have in our woods.

Yeah, it’s very easy to mistake them from afar! Glad I experienced that myself so I knew to cover it in the video.
Hackberry is somewhat useful, too. Last year, our son discovered hackberry. Although I don't know much about them, we still gathered what we could They have very large seeds in comparison to the "meat"…

Just a heads up, a strong extract of this powerful medicinal can feel as if your throat is closing if taking too much orally. It is really good for making the body heat up to kill pathogens if you feel a fever coming on. It’s great topically for arthritis.

The amount of a substance determines whether it is poison or medication. Also the line at which it can be good or bad may be as wide as marijuana or as thin as anesthesia.
I heard about these while randomly scrolling through Wikipedia like 5 months ago. Didn't know they grew in Texas, I'll have to check if they grow in my area.
Also, I almost got tripped up on the lookalikes because we ALSO have thorned trees; mesquite and huisache (sweet acacia as listed on Wikipedia) come to mind the most for me, the former because they're legumes and the latter because... Well, they're very thorny and are very hard to manage.

Great video I was wondering if you had done a video on Dagwood or Dogwood tree and there is an old saying about it and the Cross but if it is medicinal or not I know not?

New genetic information, especially leading to a functioning system with a purpose, does not come about by accident. PS, thorns were part of the curse for mankind's sin.
