    Great video. I've never had to replace the wipers on my slides, but I do clean them often with rubber conditioner. Depending on the manufacturer of the slide out, it is possible to close the slide halfway to get closer to your work instead of stretching over the full slide while doing work on the top seals. Some slides are supposed to be driven in and out without stopping halfway [Schwintek] or they will be out of sync.

      Hi! Thanks for watching. Good job on keeping up with the maintenance on your slide wipers! That is really key for keeping them functioning properly and to prevent premature failure. For the purpose of filming this project for UA-cam, we had to run the slide all the way out in order to get camera access to the work area. Otherwise, yes, I would normally not be trying to stretch over the full width of it. Thanks for looking out for me!

    Dealers around here do not recommend 100% silicone. Reason being if you need to touch it up, it will not stick to itself. I recommend something like RV Pro Flex. It will stick to itself if needed. Just my 2 cents.

    I've seen front and rear caps done. I would like to see what you do with the side of the roof. If you just add caulk or remove the trim and put a different sealant and have it squish out. I like your common sense approach to repairs.

    We just bought new slide seals I don’t have the space you have I’m thinking of having it professionally installed, unless we can do it ourselves in front of our house .

    I know your RV is rather new and you do not have a slide topper, but I haven't seen many videos on changing out the slide topper if you can find one to replace . I'm in the process of doing just that on mine. I also want to change out the slide-out roof TPO material to 29 Gauge Gavalume Metal. I've only seen one YTer doing that.

    Great video thank you for posting. The slide you were working on is identical to mine. Can you help by telling me what the make and model of it is so I can find a video to learn how to adjust the cables?

    Awesome video! Have you ever had to replace the seals on the inside of the slide outs?

    If you are reading this comment, DO NOT use silicone to seal above your newly installed wipe/bubble gasket.
    Purchase a proper RV caulk like Dicor.

      Hi! Thank you for watching. So glad the video was helpful for you. I actually ordered these seals on Amazon. You can do a search according the make and model of your RV and it would be useful to measure the width of your seals and double check that with the product you order. Preferably BEFORE you order it so you avoid the wrong sizing that I experienced in the video.

    What is the difference when ordering the vertical wall seal and the wall seal that goes across the top of the slide?

    • @TheTrailerSmith
      @TheTrailerSmith  8 місяців тому +1

      They are usually different sizes and they attach differently. They would need to be measured individually because sizing is very important. Great question. Thanks for watching!

    Can you provide the size/type of the zinc plated screws you used? Do I understand correctly that you don't need to pre-drill holes to avoid cracking the fiberglass? Thanks!

    I am looking for instructions on how to change out the bottom wiper seal. It looks simple but I can't find one video on how this is done or what it is called in order to order one. Help if you can. Sylvia

      Could you tell me the make & model of your RV? I might be able to look it up to see what the bottom seal is called.

    Do you have a link for the top seal parts you use mine looks identical and like the tape backing and doing the screws like you did. I just replaced the sides but even though the top looks OK I want to do it now to seal up the corners.

      I don’t have a specific link for you because there are various sizes. I can give you the part number and you can do a search to find what you’re needing. AP Products the part number we used for this repair is 13-1067. You’ll just need to confirm the size you are needing to make sure you purchased the correct seal. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

    Going off topic, is fiberglass repair something which can be done by DIY? The area is about 2 inches long by 1/4 inch wide on a sidewall.

      Hi! Thanks for watching! It is something that can be done DIY. The quality of the finish out-the final appearance is going to depend on experience.

    Use WD40 and scraper to get the old seal and off.

    • @TheTrailerSmith
      @TheTrailerSmith  6 місяців тому

      WD40 is a safe adhesive remover on most surfaces. It will work just fine, it you must do a thorough job of removing the WD40 before reapplying the seal. Just be aware, if you’ve lost the finish on fiberglass exteriors, it will soak into the fiberglass.
