I am 31 and love my Isla S2400. I never touched a SP1200 but as a Hip Hop Head I just have to say - thank you, Isla Instruments! Seeing you guys do your work basically makes me feel like I am walking with Giants... History is in the making with this modern day classic device receiving this wonderful update! Thanks for your efforts to the music community! Can't wait for further updates on DSP Card either! Much love and respect from Germany! Edit: That ending was another classic in iself! 🤣

Bringing the master outs to life thanks to the awesome hw/sw bus structure, enough power and storage for instrument plugins, the sp-404 killer mode, using it as an outboard effects processor.... Awesome work guys, this keeps the great workflow while adding so much power.
I'm gonna buy every last thing this dude makes just on principle alone. The 2400 is so goddamn well built and good at everything, the build quality is NASA level and the way updates came was wild. That said- sir. Kind sir, for the love of god hit up Strymon and let me stuff my BigSky into the 2400.

Just so unbelievably impressive how forward this is taking this machine. Running Vulf compressor and SoundToys on here.... it's a wraaaaaaap. Love you guys!
I have a lot of concerns with this and I want you (and others) to be aware of this. The majority of plugins, especially SoundToys, will NOT work on this. In this video he's using what I assume is an open source no-UI VST. SoundToys uses iLok, which requires an active network connection - keep in mind its not just a "one and done" process where you register the plugin once and it will be able to run forever. Most plugins that use iLok or similar protections actually do checks during runtime. It also uses a lot of system drivers and folders to register your individual machine. For example, AutoTune is actually known to run an iLok routine any time you adjust a parameter or click on the UI (yes, this has a noticeable impact on performance). Most plugins have UIs and also expect there to be many files/resources present on the OS. There is just simply no way this works for most of the stuff that is out there. Regardless it is an ambitious idea.
I mean… be fair. The MPC line, essentially just PCs these days, already supports a range of quality effect plug-ins like the Air suite. So in a way, Isla “took notes” 😂 to add effects. This add-on hardware will have advantages, but as it’s add-on, not everyone will have it, making it a niche within an already niche product, so getting a wide range of plug-ins written might be a tough task. Maybe plug-ins can be written using an SDK and lots of options can be created by an enthusiast community. As Brad mentioned, I’ve also never been completely sold on built-in effects and despite the quality and power this brings I don’t know if I can justify upgrading. But I’m very happy to be supporting a company that does projects like this.
@@ReadeMoore It is fair. If Akai is going to make a weak computer, Akai should at least make it user upgradable like Isla does. Akai knows how to do this but they choose to hamstring their MPCs to the point where basically every single MPC is the same with exception of maybe one (depending on how generous you want to be)
@@jloiben12 It’s a difference in approach. Akai delivers very powerful hardware right out of the box, more powerful that the S2400 which places emphasis on workflow and directness I wish the MPC still had in a way - I have an MPC3000 and an SP1200 and that’s the production era and workflow many users gravitate toward the S2400 for. Now the MPC line is primarily driven by software, which Akai updates reasonably often, and to your original comment, Akai already have offered a lot of plug-ins, with GUI on a large touchscreen interface. I’d like to see Isla “take some notes” from Akai and create an optional computer-based interface to build programs, manage settings… and I’d love to see Isla offer an upgrade for the S2400 drumpads to be a little more like the feel of the MPC line.

yup, exactly.
Holy smokes Batman…am I understanding this correct? We could use compatible plugins with this dsp without a computer? Take all of my money if this is true!
Did you guys make the usb floppy drive yet ?!?
God damn, Brad. God damn. Ordered before the end of the video lol. Thanks! :D
Has me wondering about the Dwarf MOD plugin ecosystem as it's also a Linux platform >_>
And then there are things that would let people roll their own plugins in various software.
I AM HYPE FOR THIS LOL
**EDIT** just had an idea while you were talking about the SP and live-performance mode... Boss makes a sampler called the RC-505 and it's a very similar format hardware-wise, being able to use the S2400 like that would be so awesome :D
I'm aware of that Dward MOD plugin system, and actually all those plugins already work on the S2400 DSP card. Well, I say all, I mean all the ones I have tested.. patchstorage.com/platform/lv2-plugins/?search_query=&tax_platform=lv2-plugins&tax_target%5B%5D=rpi-aarch64&tax_post_tag=&orderby=modified&wpas_id=search_form&wpas_submit=1
@@ISLAInstruments that's so great, thanks for responding! :D
I'm going to see how far I can get using PlugData before summer is over...
