Awesome job on the bracelet on the beautiful standard poodle. I grew up having black toy and standard poodles. Can you tell me what shears you are using?

Hi, prep is the key. Hand dry the legs and then brush and comb thoroughly. If you are using a clipper then go over the leg a few times combing the coat between each clipping. If scissoring , practice makes perfect. Lots of combing. Comb up and out. Hold the scissors properly and try not to bounce your hand too much.

Don't most people though, groom their Poodles with a Top Knot & Tail Ball with everything else medium-short?
I would say 50/50 keep them short. Some like pom poms on the legs or fuller legs and short body.
