  • Dr. Askari and Lana were part of Session 2: The Future of Treatment for Wilson Disease
Lana Escamilla is on the Board of the Wilson Disease Association and is Patient Advocacy Director. Lana is a Wilson disease patient who was diagnosed at 22 after experiencing liver failure. She temporarily lost mobility, the ability to read, write and concentrate and had tremors, slurred speech, and was days away from a feeding tube. Recognizing how incredibly fortunate she is to be alive today and to have achieved her goal to work as an attorney, Lana joined the WDA Board to be a voice for other patients and to work to improve people's lives that are affected by Wilson disease.
Dr. Fred Askari has been Lana's treating physician for the last two decades. Lana has participated in three clinical trials that he's directed at Michigan Medicine.
