This has got to be one of the fastest versions of "What is Hip?" ever recorded. Considering that Victor Conte is holding his own at this tempo, and his talents with ICP-mass spectrometry, this guy is a genius.
I remember when I first heard about Victor Conte then was listening to an interview with him talking about playing bass for TOP! I couldn't believe it. The guy is great wow.
This is awesome! Mic is sounding a little adventurous this performance. I had to listen carefully to hear him and Greg play that last solo in octaves. It's cool, even to hear Mic ad libbing at 4:42. Great Vid!!
Great concert, remember seeing this one. Just an interesting footnote. The bass player is Victor Conte. Conte left music and became the President of BALCO, the supplement company that ended up sinking the careers of many professional athletes including Marion Jones and Barry Bonds.
Barry Bonds was never a BALCO customer. Victor refused to falsely testify against him & did time over that refusal - to his credit. He's playing, as does Rocco, with fingertips here - which ain't easy at this speed!
Dang, this a fast version. Victor earned his money that night He should have stuck to playing bass and he would have kept his ass out of trouble. haha.
Based on this video, I'm completely convinced Victor Conte was synthesizing Armodafinil and Adderall in his basement 20 years before they were commercially available.

Genius on the bass and administering steroids, lol.

L.P. Doin da swirl & twirl.
what was it like playing in the hipest band in the word? That's what I'd like to know.
Fire
The irony of watching this is that the lead singer looks exactly like one of Conte's future customers, "Dwain Chambers"!
GO LP!!
who is that sax player doing the crazy dancing? saw them in '75, and he did that same dance. really stuck out in my head. thanks for posting!!!
That is the great Lennie Pickett!
@@woodygould thanks Woody
Gotta love it - Edward is out in the audience getting phone numbers during the solos!! :-) A great band - but miss Rocco and DG on this one.
This is a killer version but the best by far is on Live and in Living Color featuring the incredible Hubert Tubbs on vocals.

He made a nice comeback that's for sure. Living large and running SNAC.

No doubt, def some stims on board.
What year is that!? 73
this is probably 1977. Lenny Williams was still singing with TOP until early 1976.
David G versions only please lol😊
I heard Lenny had them moves but DAMN!!! Oh and that Conte factoid... shoulda stuck to playing that bass full time.
I always wonder how bands like this made any money w/so many dudes to pay
Hipness @ Warp 9.9
