    Absolutely! I actually have a 1988 Greco EHC68-60 that I bought off eBay from a dealer in Japan. It's basically a white 68 Les Paul Custom. I took all the hardware and electronics out and put all Gibson Les Paul Custom goodies on it. It sounds and plays amazing. I dig it.

    I once worked on a client's late 80's Greco black LP custom, and it was actually a very nice guitar.

    I own 4 Grecos from early 80’s. You might want to look into them, not only they copied the “Originals” but at that time they actually made better guitars than the (at that time) regular Gibsons. I owned 2 Gibson Customs, 1 Standard, 1 Classic LP and 3 SGs snd I sold them every single time. I know that Japanese do not hold the prices like Gibsons, but as far as quality and playability they are far superior than Gibson. At the end is just a matter of personal choice & taste. I love your show where I learned a lot about guitars. Thank you

    I love Greco guitars so much. I have a super early Matsumoku version, a 1973-74 Strat with a sunburst body and a maple neck/fretboard, and it’s one of the best guitars I’ve ever played.

    Wow! I never knew anyone ever made a copy of the Artisan due to it being such an obscure Gibson model. Love my original '78 Artisan and my '16 Lee Malia Artisan is one of the best Epiphones made in recent years.

    'had a brand new Italian c.67 Greco dbl. Florentine cut away thin hollow w. 3 single coil p.u.s , switches & knobs and a wang bar & a mute under a glossy mahogany finish that played like butter up to the 5th fret ... all for $99 !
    Yeah , i know it was expensive ~ ~ the guitar's long gone - but i've Still got the catalog they tossed in the cardboard case ⚡

    Those pickups alone go for huge bucks. The Mazxon Dry-Z has the reputation of being the closest to the original PAFs, as they were meticulously reverse engineered. They only were available for a short 2-3 model years, thus they are nearly as rare as the Gibson ones by now.

    I have a Greco eg59-70 and it's comparable to a MANY Gibson's I've played. I feel like Greco amd other Japanese makers pushed Gibson into making the reissues and starting the Custom Shop they have now. They were selling 59 style Les Pauls several years before Gibson reissued them.

    Greco pickups are costly on Ebay nowdays so that should tell you something, I had a made in Japan with Maxxon Pickups ..they were single pickups inside but they sounded good..they were unpotted ..andhad that airy sound to em..i can't stand potted pickups.....and sold em like a dummy, if i still had it ...i would add another Half to it and make a proper Humbucker with a single/humbucker Switch ..pull switch i think its called, Anyway it looks like the '79 "the paul" ..which came with Gibson T-tops ..gives an Idea if you wanna.." and are unpotted" they don't squeal cause they are made right ..if u buy a handwound..make sure its unpotted..if not they dont know how to wind.. if id buy it and rock it ??? According to the asking Price..as a Gift to me ..no fkng doubt !! ..and be a friend for Life !

    I swear by Greco. I have an 84 Mint Collection EGC 600 Black Beauty and it's just as good as ANY Gibson I've played from the era. I also just got an 89 EGC in White Order Made and it has an ebony board. Absolutely incredibly built guitars if you get them between 1980-1990 within the "Super Real" or Mint Collection series.

    Jeez Trogly man, you don't half love that 'Allman-esque' chord progression lol. I reckon you must have used it in almost every video of your's that I've ever seen. I've never played a Greco LP copy but I've heard they're pretty decent models for the money usually. This one however has way too high a price tag for me when you can buy a proper used Gibson LP Custom in great condition for that amount.

  • @fuzzcous

    • @Natimaguitar
      @Natimaguitar 6 років тому +2

      They do! I've owned a LOT of Greco/Tokai/other mij guitars. I've played 50's and 60's Fenders and Gibsons. Currently in possession of a '69 strat, '67 SG, and the Grecos are nothing to sniff at! The late 70's EG 800+ models are fantastic but a little slim on the neck profile. "Super Real" series and "Super Power Customs" and later 80's models have beefier mahogany necks. Having said that the 3 piece maple necks of the 70's are pretty darn stable. Never seen one with too much relief.

    • @Jimbo1268
      @Jimbo1268 6 років тому

      Good pickups, yes. They have gone way up in price not worth that sort of money. And if you did an A-B test you would tell a difference to the actual Gibson's and for some people that's important. I love Greco's stuff. Have owned several vintage LP copies.

  • @alabamahebrew
    @alabamahebrew 6 років тому

    Sure why not! I have that Lee Malia Epiphone, It's a great guitar with the ability to actually have just two humbucker single coils. P94 in the neck with a L85 with coil split in the bridge. Its a pretty guitar, not as pretty as the Gibson version though. Now see this Greco bothers me somewhat and here is why. The Abr1 Bridge.... the fastest way to spot a chibson is the bridge, well as you can see right here they can fool you.

    • @mariospantouvanos4645
      @mariospantouvanos4645 6 років тому

      Grecos are not really chibsons as they were made in japan. They usually called them lawsuit guitars.

    • @alabamahebrew
      @alabamahebrew 6 років тому +2

      Thanks for that Mario, yeah I wasn't necessarily meaning Grecos were chibsons just more that with the use of that style bridge by any manufacturer they could more easily fool someone. I know that's usually right where my eyes fall whenever I'm looking at the body of a supposed Gibson. But thanks to Austin I have been shown over the last few months since subbing to his site, that I don't know jack about Gibsons lol. I know that it's an old topic, Decades in fact, but these chibsons really just make me angry. What makes me more angry over them besides their obvious criminal elements is the people who buy them then put Video's up on You Tube bragging them up. I hear the same old argument that they cannot afford the real thing so they spend $200 and try to fool people into believing they own the real Gibson. Anyway, Im not gonna get on that topic, lol that would be very long, let's just say that with the way these fake guitars have progressed and some are in fact quite well made, why not just start selling them with their own name on it?

And to think, these were considered worthless throwaways in the 80s and 90s...silly short sighted collectors!

    • @Natimaguitar
      @Natimaguitar 6 років тому

      The Dry-Z pickups in this guitar are worth at least $600, and the hardware is all GOTOH, about the best mass produced hardware out there. $1000 would be a STEAL for this guitar... $2500 is still high, but not by much!

    I doubt fluctuations in Gibson Artisan values have much (if anything) to do with Epiphones inspired-by ... that would be assuming a lot about causation. Model prices will naturally fluctuate, and guitar prices have responded to changes in demand/popularity of the instrument/certain models etc throughout the years. :P

    the sticker says "order made" which means this is a one of a kind custom guitar. It's got dry z pickups, which are going for 2k per set nowadays. Fujigen, who built most greco's, opened a custom shop in 1972.
    It's a safe bet that this guitar is much higher quality than gibson, that it sounds better and plays better and the pickups are unquestionably better. They were custom built to sound like vintage paf's and they are really, really close. No modern gibson pickup can touch them.
    The best les pauls in the 50's were built by gibson and the best les pauls in the 80's were built by Japan. Greco, burny, tokai are all superior to their gibson counterparts.
