His performance as Alan is so natural, it's weird seeing him break character; like, my mind finds it difficult to accept that Alan IS a character in the first place.
I live in Australia and we don't get to see that much of Steve Coogan. Honestly, it took me a lot of confused Googling before it finally dawned on me that this hilarious and cringe-worthy character was not actually a bloke called Alan Partridge.

The Gibbons brothers have really boosted Alan to another level. This and the Oasthouse are truly stratospheric in terms of comedy gold. Cant believe the high quality they're able to achieve.
Always loved a bit of Partridge, in fact I think the first series of ‘I’m Alan partridge’ (the one in Linton Travel Tavern) is up there with Fawlty Towers in terms of comic timing and delivery. Good to see them having fun while they make it, adds to the enjoyment of it all 😁👍❤️
Absolutely, I've always thought it amazing that she doesn't burst into fits of giggles- though if you watch closely you can see her tightening her lips so as to not smile or bust into laughter a few times, nice to see her break character in this. I think Felicity's character Lynn is a major part of Alan Partridge.
Nice to see Lynn having a funny moment with Alan, despite the fact he is her employer, good to see there's genuine affection between the two of them. We always knew that, but the off camera moment just confirms it.
I love Tim Key. He was such an inspired choice for a Partridge foil. Steve was saying, on the Off Menu podcast, that as a comedian you can normally watch other comedy acts and, even when they're great, you think "ok I see what they did, why that was funny" but Tim Key has an inscrutable delivery where you find yourself laughing with no idea why.
I first remember seeing partridge for the 1st time as a 10 year old lying in bed watching the epidode where he shoots Forbes Mcallister I thought it was real and ran through and said to my mum there's just been a.guy shot on TV the way the cut to a screen to create confusion really added to the realism been a proud partridge fan since age 10 x
I first 'met' Alan on Comic Relief (that's where I first saw him). I couldn't believe such a complete fool was presenting TV and I wondered what on earth the BBC were playing at!
i like how they cut from the scene of the internet troll being held account to a shot where you got a great view of Jenny's legs. That kind of subtlety was all through this show, watching it it felt like every moment had been meticulously crafted, it's a masterpiece
@@RosieHarp Nah. Del Boy will always be a long way ahead of David Brent, and there's an argument that Alf Garnett is up there too, behind Del, but most people are too young to remember him these days.🤔 Also don't forget Blackadder, Hancock, and Basil Fawlty either. It's a very subjective list, especially if you take the whole history of British TV sitcoms into account.
@@EnglishMike Hancock is a bit before my time, was he a character? I've watched clips, I thought it was just him playing himself. I barely remember Alf Garnet. Yes Fawlty was definitely top 3. @@RosieHarp Technically, Anthony John (Tony) Hancock played a character called Anthony Aloysius Hancock in his scripted TV sitcoms -- basically a holdover from his earlier (immensely popular) radio sitcom series, Hancock's Half Hour He was before my time too (he was only 44 when he died), though his radio show is still available on BBC Radio 4's website. The Office's brand of very awkward humour (which I very much enjoyed) means that it will always be less popular than the near universally loved Only Fools and Horses, so Del Boy will always get more love than David Brent, but of course, greatness is a very subjective term. Well documented in "I Partridge". It was all Pepsi (or Shirley) from Pepsi and Shirley fault. He was absolutely furious with one of them. He now keeps in shape by doing the odd "Twerk Dat" workout on UA-cam.
