Hey guys! Coming at you today with another 3d printing video that was intended as an Old World proxy video, but turned into a lot more! Instead of stressing myself out trying to get this model painted a certain way and even completely finished, I just had fun with it! When we're in to games that require large armies to be painted, it's easy to get burnt out and forget that this is supposed to be a fun hobby! I challenge you to pick a completely random project to work on, without having any 'reason' to do it, aside from pure fun!
PS
I'll be giving away different codes for Warhammer videogames over on Twitch this Thursday (May 23rd) while also streaming the classic Space Marine game! Hopefully I'll be able to stream Space Marine 2 soon...?
We'll be live from 8PM to 12AM Thursday evening Irish time! Click the link below to follow and get notified when we go live!

Thanks for checking out the video!
I've got this figure as well, but I have the variation with the chains and goblins hanging off! More painting work, but more fun as well!
Nice work! Painting for the hell of it is a great message, but i oft times find it starts a new collection:p
Hahaha very true, I just didn’t want to say it in the video 😂
I have burnt out halfway through painting my fifth consecutive tank. Decided once this is done I’m painting a very fun five man squad
That’s a great idea! And yes lots of tanks in a row can be difficult, a cool squad as a palette cleanser sounds fun
Advice we could all do with following occasionally I think, great video 😃
Thanks so much! 🙌
I have to confess that as a content creator I am struggling to get enough content for my channel as all my desires to build kits has gone out of the window. Currently I am painting up the Black Templar Combat Patrol as a vlog, but generating the enthusiasm is hard. Fortunately, once i do get started, I start enjoying myself.👍👍😉
Yeah I know that feeling. Some of the newer kits have so much stuff on them it’s nice just to build older stuff or 3D print things instead when you need a change. Vlogging is a great idea though, and as you say, once you get going it’s fun-it’s just the start that’s the hard part 😄
I've been painting Battletech excessively recently. Got a bit old with the same ole same ole paint scheme. Heard about Trench Crusade and instantly fell in love. Kitbashed and painted a full warband in one sitting, where that would of taken me a week to paint that many mechs with less definition. I highly agree, something you love can get stale when you don't step away from it once and a while.
Agreed 100%
Was facing some hobby burnout out with all my armies, killteams, Necromunda gangs until a buddy of mine surprise B-day gifted me almost the whole Cawdor collection from 1995. Needless to say that's the new big project :)
Yeees love that.
Those teeth look so realistic...
I've had trouble picking up a brush for over a year and finally started painting my World Eaters with some new Rosemary&Co brushes and Fanatic paints. Playing with the new things was my only reason to start again. Hoping I catch the bug...
Yes new shiny toys can actually help break through stuff like that! We’re simple creatures 😄 hope you’re back into painting, just don’t put too much pressure on yourself, paint when you feel like it and don’t force it!
My wife entered my office while this video was playing, and she said, "That's cute!". She's not wrong. Glad you had fun painting your pink snorf.
Hahaha yay, exactly what I wanted to hear! And yes she was a lot of fun to paint!
Lovely video as always- And lovely message too!
Btw - The still pictures are often quite dark - Any chance you could brighten them up a bit, so we can actually see the glorious paint jobs? :)
Ye I can do that pal.
Cheers Andy! Totally agree, sometimes you have to just do something fun not part of the big project!
Yep, random things really crack open something new creatively!
I usually i get way too much into stuff, just like this time.
I spent about 900 € on Cities of Sigmar and Batch Painted the shit out of em and now i sit and look at em and cant finish the army...
Batch Painting kinda always kills my Mood and i need to get back into it by trying myself on a Hero.... well this comes with the fear of fk up the mini
Batch painting is a slog alright. I find breaking it down into smaller batches works better for me even if it takes slightly longer because I’m more likely to keep going with small “wins” rather than just not finishing a big batch of something. You need to see finished models and progress happening.
Characters are a great way to break things up for sure, and it’s only paint. You can fix any mistakes so you don’t need to worry about messing anything up.
This thing is so incredibly cute. If I had something that looked like this, I would be very happy, and she would be getting all the love and attention and affection she deserves.
She is getting all of that, even when I should be working 😄
Andy, I'd so much rather you painted and hobbied with anything you liked for the joy of it, happiness and passion is far more important than just creating content, if your heart isn't in it, what's the point, right?
It's good to see you enjoy yourself.
Well said! Thanks so much for that
We all, I think, often take it to seriously and it is nice to do something completely different as a refresh. Scenery is my usual go to for this sort of thing, but recently I’ve been working on some chaos terminators and the trophy helmets have been an excuse to be quite experimental and I’ve really enjoyed it.
Scenery is a great one for just having fun with, the video I did for the walls and fences during the week was so relaxing and a complete reset for the week. Need to do more stuff like that
If you add a howdah to that and some night goblin riders, it could maybe be a cool proxy for an arachnarok spider.
That was actually my original idea but I scaled it wrong! Might print another though..
Triad paint systems - a no brainer really and in a dropper bottle too!!! Will be looking through the range and trying a triad set.
Yeah start with a triad you will use often and see how you feel!
Thank you! I love these models, and I have just ordered some to paint for the pure joy of it. I would not have known they were out there if you had not posted this.
Aw sweet, really glad to hear that! Enjoy yourself with them 😊
Love the paint scheme you used on that fantasy model. It's a joy to watch you in action ❤😊😊
Cheers man, glad the passion shows through! 😊
Couldn’t agree more about making sure you have fun painting. Burning out is one of my biggest fears in this hobby so I try to make sure I do something every now and then just because I want to
It sure is. Swaping around is great fun.
I haven’t even been able to watch the video yet just see the title, but this is absolutely the message that new fans and any fans need to learn. I have put so many things on back burners not one to continue just because I felt I wasn’t doing as good as I potentially could. When in reality perfect should not be the enemy of good.
I think a part of it is how expensive a lot of these items are, that if you make a mistake with it or you do something different than normally, you’re somehow pissing the money away.
I also should have bought based on rule of cool vs “playable points.”
I mean in the long run, even if you’re not gonna play it, painting, some crazy ass demon world eater can be a lot of fun just on its own.
Thanks for that pal.
Have you tried Rogue's paints yet? That creature has a Disneyish feel.
I haven’t tried them yet but you’re right!
@@MediocreHobbies First I thought you had a nice model of Stitch. :)
It's a Bulldog Hydra
Haha it’s a strange one.
She is adorable!
She really is
cute puppy lol
She’s adorable haha
👍
😊
Your discussion of what you love 'cabinets full of armies' is also what I love. Not played games with half of them.
Between painting armies I usually clear some random stuff that I have lying around. My real comfort food of painting is Marauder dwarfs tho. so I'll usually do one of them whenever I don't feel the love.
That’s such a good way of putting it-comfort food painting-I love that!! You sound like my kinda guy!
It looks like slimer crossed with a pug….love it
Hahahah yes she does!
