On "My Car Story" we're at the Carlisle Events in Carlisle PA on 7-9-21.
We're looking at a 1966 Dodge Charger in Daffodil Yellow Paint. The car comes with the factory 426 CI Hemi V8 engine.
The car's Owner is Bill Dano. Bill’s had this car since 1988. He shares he used to have a Charger with a 318 CI motor, and always wanted that Hemi. Well he purchased this one in 1988 and has been happy with the car ever since. This car has been restored and looks showroom new.

That back seat arm rest folds forward, and the panel between the trunk and the passenger compartment folds down. This makes a continuous carpeted area from the back of the car to the front seats.

These early 66 and 67 chargers never get enough love. The hideaway headlights on this body style are gorgeous. The yellow is super rare on this body style and love it.
Hi Kenneth, Happy to read you "love it" :-) Lou
MOPAR OR NOCAR, BABY!!! Thanks Lou, the '66 Charger is the best looking Charger in my not-so-humble opinion.. CHAAAAARGE IT!
Hi Zach Diecast Mansur, High praise for the looks of this car :-) Lou
I love it! The '66s & '67s are my favorite Chargers out there. Kudos to Bill, too for following his dream and finding a Hemi one! Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, Happy to read is one of the years which are your favorite for the Charger :-) My pleasure sharing this one, and you're welcome, Lou
They are finally getting the respect they always deserved in the muscle car collecting world.
4 bucket seats,hideaway headlights,fastback & a hemi?Car was a grand slam!
That ones WAY BACK!!!! A GRAND SLAM!!!!
The ‘66-‘67 Charger was a great transitional design from the early-to-late ‘60s. Love it.
Hi zinc orbie, Happy to read you "Love it" :-) Lou
66 is the first year for the Dodge Charger. Check out Lou's video on the 65 Dodge Dart Charger. Extremely rare Mopar!
Nice find Lou
It sure is a remarkable Charger
66 and 67 has the nicest interior with the front to rear console and double bucket seats.
Stunning car
Hi Den, Happy to share this one with you and glad to read you consider this car "Stunning" :-) Lou
Nothing sounds as good as a Big Ol HEMI!!!! Bill and his wife are cool 😎
Hi J Pate, Happy to read you enjoy the sound of this car & the Care Takers too :-) Lou

Im a Ford man but I love those old school V8s the Hemis were awesome excellent work Lou.
Happy to read Chuck that you can appreciate this Charger :-) Lou
My favorite Charger of all! This model is classy, well built and powerfull!
Happy to read this one is a favorite of yours :-)
For a 9 year old boy, when this car came out, it was (and still is) an awesome design, inside and out. Detroit was starting to build really cool-looking cars in the mid-60's. It was a great time for car fans. Thanks Lou!
Hi Mike, High praise for the design of this car :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Everyone should have a Hemi Charger!! Much love from 🇨🇦! Listen to the Engine!
Hi Christine, Thank you for sharing, and appreciate the "Much love" :-) Lou
Super Clean , Looks like they found the Fountain of Youth ✌🏼
Hi Dane Ta Tua Tonka, You sure feel like a teenager in this one :-) Lou
Lou I wanted to tell you a short story of my youth. In my high school days a friend had just gotten a 65 vette, 327/365 4 sod. We were out one night street racing and came across a new 66 charger with a 426 hemi. The race was light to light, the vette took off on the green and was ahead through 3 gears then all we heard was the deep roar of the 426 cubes as the charger passed us. It was an eye opener for me as I gained big respect MOPAR. Thanks for your attention Lou. Needless to say I really enjoy your channel.
Hi Vern, Thank you for sharing your eye opener experience 8-) Happy to read you're enjoying the Channel with me, Lou
And the Charger was a heavy car..
I wonder how much the Rambler Marlin that became the AMC Marlin, influenced that rear window design?
LOTS :-) ua-cam.com/video/e6lhovDV5y0/v-deo.html
The Charger concept was out in '64-'65. The Plymouth Barracuda pre-dated the Marlin. So there was no influence.
Great Charger ! These 66s have such great lines ! Beautiful in Daffodil and a Hemi to boot ! Wild ! Thanks Lou !
Hi Uncle Rudy, Happy to read you enjoy the design of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
I think this was my introduction to something other than a fordor family sedan. First time I saw one, which was off-white with red interior, I was amazed at the huge fastback design, the hidden headlights, and the floor console going from the dash area into the back seats. Thanks Lou and Bill & Joyce for a wonderful Saturday morning treat!
Hi Rusty, Happy to read the details you see. My pleasure sharing this Saturday morning treat with you, and you're welcome, Lou
I love Chargers and seeing a first series is really special.
Hi Chris, Happy to read you appreciate this "really special" car :-) Lou
That has to be the best sounding 426 Hemi I’ve ever heard. Sounds AMAZING! And what a car! Love the first gen. Chargers! Great video once again, Lou! Keep it up👍🏼
Hi Christopher, High praise for the sounds and looks of this car :-) Thanks for the kind words on the video, Lou
Another icon! Very nice Charger.
What a great Car Story - I love that he got his dream car.
Hi Jeff, Receives the "dream car" ....happy ending :-) Glad to share this one with you, Lou
Lou, you really deliver for my Saturday morning coffee time!
Loved the shot from the rear drivers side corner, down low. Spectacular! My fav year for a Charger !
Hi Cherry Pickers Guitars, Happy to bring the Saturday morning treats to go along with the coffee :-) Lou
I was 16 years old in 1968 and my younger brother and I went to the local Plymouth dealer to look at cars. The used car salesman came up to us and saw I was driving a 64 Dodge Polara 500. He said let me show you boys something. He took us to a used 66 Charger with 426 Hemi. He had to pull the ashtray out to start the car! Previous owner kill switch. That thing started up and we were mesmerized! He popped the hood and the sight was beautiful! I think it was selling for around $2,600? Unfortunately I wasn't really in the market (16 years) but I still remember that day all these years later. I eventually bought a new 71 Demon 340 and that started my racing career! Those were the days!
Hi Craig, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your trip to the Plymouth Dealership with your Brother :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
That sound never gets old.
Happy to read you enjoy the sounds of this car :-)
This is the car that made me notice Mopar. My late friend Don Robe of Sioux City, Iowa had his own shop and a hand full of classic Mopars. His 66 was white with dark red interior and the 318 wide block. Parked next to his 64 Plymouth Fury with the 426 Hemi and a late 40s truck he built in high school. His Charger was all original except for one tire. This was over 30 years ago. One of many reasons I love your channel. Certain cars take me back to those days. This Charger looks amazing in that yellow and I bet it's something to feel the torque from that elephant. Thank you for sharing as always. Take care Lou.
Hi Russell, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Friend Don's shop :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Definitely one of the best all around car design’s of all time, and with the 426, it’s perfect Lou! It sounds fabulous
Hi Paul, High praise :-) I agree, sounds great. Lou
Great car Lou. You gotta love the rumble while it's idling yesssssss
Hi Norm, Happy to read you enjoy the sounds from this car :-) Lou
Nuthin' "Mellow" about that "Yellow." Thanks, Lou!
You're right :-) You're welcome.
WOW! What a stunningly gorgeous car! I would give up my left test***** for this car! I especially love the rear and front styling and the 426 hemi! I also loved your choice to add an awesome video for us! Thank you Lou!
Hi JON, High praise for this car / video :-) You're welcome, Lou
Hi, Lou! The ride in this one emphatically demonstrates why the Dodge Boys called this one Charger! (Da-da-da-dat-da-daaaa! LOL!) When Dodge introduced it back in '66, they promoted it as the new leader of the Dodge Rebellion, and obviously it was! "The Dodge Rebellion wants YOU!" Pam Austin said, and Bill and Joyce were eager to join, even if they had to wait 22 years to answer it with the Hemi, the way they wanted to! With those bucket seats front and rear and that fastback style, it was just the ticket for folks who wanted a sports machine but might have otherwise had to buy a station wagon, at least if they didn't have to take more than four people along.
Hats off to the Danos for leading the charge, and to all of you for yet another fun street cruise!
Hi iswc27, Happy to be in the Dodge Rebellion starter club as we roll back the clock to 1966 in this one :-) Lou
Another Mopar Girl (it's a Hemi), I would love to have the Hemi Orange Purse!! Thanks for Posting These Mopar Beauties!! I miss my Orange 72 Demon 😈!! These Cars had Style!!
Hi Christine, My pleasure sharing these "Mopar Beauties!!" with you :-) Lou
Fabulous!! The 66-67's are my favorite. They had a wonderful interior.
Happy to read this is one of your favorites :-)
Lou never ceases to impress us with these cream puffs. Gorgeous colour witn the white interior. And how cool is Joyce with the Mopar bag and groovy hat! Great style this couple has!
Hi Edward, Happy to share this "Cream Puff" with you, and the bonus Mopar bag & groovy hat too :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing what you enjoy from this video, Lou
I like the fastback style of a '66 Charger. Great looking Mopar.
Hi Plymouth Die-Cast Replicas, Happy to read you enjoy the style of this car :-) Lou
Love that Joyce is so involved 🖒
Bonus for sure :-)
Lou, oh boy - where to begin... not only is this as fine a prime example of this car there is but man...I think that the '66-'67 Charger may be if not one of the finest looking cars Chrysler ever built - including the interior. Handsome throughout! As an AMC enthusiast I believe Chrysler liberally borrowed from Dick Teague's designs of the era [example Rebel/Satellite] this car has far better lines and proportions than the Marlin. When I think of the model year 1966 two cars come to mind, the Charger and the Toronado. I remember my dad taking me to see these cars as a young lad...those two cars have become Classics and have certainly stood the test of many many decades. Pleasant memories past and now present. Damn good find on this one Lou!
Hi Audie, "I think that the '66-'67 Charger may be if not one of the finest looking cars Chrysler ever built" High praise :-) Lou
Uncle Roy's babies were the Marlin and Ambassador. Remember the Plymouth Barracuda came out in 1964. The Charger concept came out in '64-'65. The Charger was longer, lower and more powerful than any Marlin. We could also say that the '67 Marlin copied from the Charger? Or that the '68 Torino copied from the Charger. In the end. Who knows?
When Dodge had it going on! Sweeeeeet color combo. Well done Bill & JOYCE!
Hi Pat, Happy to read you enjoy this "going on!" car :-) Lou
Brilliant, pillarless, sublime flier. Lovely couple.
I like what "Simon Says" :-)
I love the T-shirts Joyce and Bill were wearing. Both car people. That makes it special. I love the shirt Bill is wearing. It has what looks like either a 1957 or a 58 Plymouth. Awesome cars!
Hey Jason, Happy to read you enjoy they're enthusiasm for the car hobby :-) Lou
@@loucostabile I agree. I It's always fun to meet other car enthusiasts, wherever they may be. I'm from Washington state, and I see vintage cars a lot.
That HEMI is a monster.........sounds so smooth and POWERFUL
Hi Mike, Happy to read you enjoy this motor and sounds from this car :-) Me too, Lou
Great example of a pristine ‘66 426 Hemi Charger. Looking at its beautiful huge engine, and in contrast the booster-less brake master cylinder, I believe 1966 was the last year that factory power disc brakes were not mandatory, and maybe not even available from Chrysler.

The 66-67 Charger has probably the best mix of what mopar had to offer back in the late 60s and early 70s. You have that one piece tail light with the swooping contours and body lines, that coupled with the detail of the interior is hard to beat. As they progressed the detail work went away as they focused more on the racing aspect as you got into the 70s. This has got to be one of my favorite car combos that you have featured as far as Mopars are concerned. Complete styling with a touch of elegance and the absolute ability to blow your doors off...Good find Lou
Hi Adam, Happy to read this is one of your favorite cars featured :-) Enjoy reading the details you notice, Lou
my next door neighbor had one, it was blue with a 383ci back in 1980 aw miss those muscle car days
Hi Chris, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your neighbors car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
The nicest first generation charger out there I bet, what a car !
Hi Florida Alan, Happy to read you appreciate this car :-) Lou
It just doesn't get any better than a mint, vintage HEMI Mopar!!
What a beautiful HEMI Charger... Smooth lines with an aggressive look.
GREAT VIDEO LOU.
Hi TCT9MM, Happy to read you enjoy the design and power of this car :-) Lou
I had a 66. I'm crying right now.it was red and in great shape. Also has a 67 SS chevelle. I got to go throw up now...... the memories of great cars. Beats the hell out of the crap they design now.

I did enjoy the 1966 Dodge Charger, keep up what you are doing, and may God bless your work!
Hi Jed, Happy to read you enjoy this car, and blessings received. Lou
At the beginning of the video Bill had a nostalgia attack (foot to the floor)! Love that interior, lots of chrome and diecast metal -- not the cheap plastic of the later Chargers (I know, I bought new a 1973 castrated 440 CI Dodge Charger -- the '69 Dodge Dart 340 Swinger I traded in for the Charger would have blown the doors off my '73 Charger -- that is until I modified it).
Hi 1royalpalm, ....and when his foot hit the floor, then Bill had a smile, I had a smile, Joyce had a smile, and they you had a smile :-) Lou
Lou....
You're KILLING me with this first generation Coronet fastback/Charger platform...
KILLING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Auto-magic no worries pure history!!!
Thanks 'bro!
Cheers!!!

You have great taste :-)
You're welcome 'bro!

Most Classic Car people are very nice folks like these people. I know one Classic Car announcer who is the luckiest guy in the world riding in many of these very desirable and beautiful automobiles. Great job Lou!
Hi Dave, I'd agree the people are nice :-) Happy to share the experiences with you, and glad you're along for the ride, Lou
Thank u Lou 😃
For rolling back time.
Can't express my thanks enough.
Hi Elliott, My pleasure bring you right back to 1966 :-) You're welcome, Lou
Hi Lou, thank you for the great video! A lovely fun couple with a great car that is loved by so many people, including me!
Hi Aelita, Happy to read you enjoy this video :-) Lou
Fantastic car! Best part of the video is the beginning. Play that burnout a handful of times!
Hi William, Happy to read you enjoy that burn out again and again :-) Lou
That American V8 muscle sound is BETTER than sweet music to the ears!
Hi lonnyjaw, Happy to read you enjoy the sounds of this car :-) Lou
Very nice car with a 426 Hemi. Love it Lou. A MOPAR fan.
Hi Ollie, Happy to read "Love it Lou" :-)
He needed that burnout as much as we appreciated that burnout!!! What a great way to start a video 😎👍👍
Win / Win :-)
Magnificent! Near museum quality car! Mopar built some stunning cars back in "the day". Not the best build quality but beautiful!.Thanks for posting!
HI Gerry, High praise :-) Lou
My neighbor bought one used like 3 months old 66 hemi all red charger and it has about 16,000 miles on it. It is now a trailer queen.
He still has it and a 69 charger hemi powered as well.
Hi Jon, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your neighbors car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
That's a nice yellow for that body style. It also has the right color interior. It's not really as big as it may appear. It was no bigger than my '66 4-door Coronet also with the boring 318. It's just that it looks bigger, because of that fastback design
Hi Al Dente, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. Lou
So much more than 'just a Coronet'.. That dash gauge cluster with its Electroluminescent lighting is sooooo cool! Ghostly glow.. I love the Magnums on that, though not officially offered until 67. That giant rear window was the 1st from Dodge to have tint std. You needed it! :)

Beautiful '66 and I want to say the 1st Hemi one I've seen since the late 60's.
Hi K B, 1st one I've seen, and happy to share this one with you :-) Lou
@@loucostabile Appreciate your videos!
Thanks Lou!
This is the best looking Charger! This in my top ten bucket list.
Hi halhenryg, High praise for the looks of this Charger :-) You're welcome, Lou
Another treat from Carlisle. What a great journey for you to see all these classics and bring them for your viewers to see. Bill and Joyce take excellent care of that Charger. It looks like it just rolled out (or should I say raced out) of the showroom. Nice to see such happy owners enjoying their ride. Thanks for the great video Lou.
Hi Kevin, My pleasure delivering the "treats" from Carlisle :-) You're welcome, and stay tuned, there will be more, Lou
Another great find Lou. Yellow is a favorite car color and those straight line of the 66/67 Chargers. Sat in a 65 vette when we got beat by a white 66 426 hemi charger
Hi Vern, Happy to read "Yellow is a favorite car color" :-) Sounds like a lasting memory from that 66 426 Hemi Charger, Lou
Lou I continue to be amazed at the rare outstanding machines you bring to your channel. You just don't see these first gen Chargers around anymore let alone one with a hemi. This one is outstanding in yellow with beautiful white interior. Love your enthusiasm. A shout out to the nice couple and Joyce's purse lol.. Great vid man
Hi Bruce H., I don't see them either, however I saw this one, and knew I'd like to have it on the Channel, and thankfully the Care Taker agreed :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, Lou
Dodge Chargers had shoulder and leg room. I remember that a Lotta big dudes could stretch out. I was 12 when these came off a showroom floor.
Hi Gary, Thanks for sharing your knowledge, and I was 16 (Mentally) when riding in this car for the video :-) Lou
Wow Lou that gentleman and his wife sure have a absolute beauty there. That Daffodil Yellow was very popular back then on these units. My gosh that engine sound and power that it produces is just great! What a neat throwback this car is boy I remember when these came out and the Dodge lady in the ads used to say that this car was part of the Dodge Rebellion. I had a button here from that era with her picture on it and she was promoting these cars. I so loved the the long tail lights too bad they were not sequential like the Fords did that would have been awesome plus the hide away headlights and that sloping back really had this hot and to this day still is. Loved the engine and glad it has a automatic in it. Boy they sure have a absolute treasure and time capsule here. Thanks for sharing and the ride along Lou!
Hi Steve, Happy to read this one brings back memories :-) My pleasure sharing this "absolute treasure and time capsule" with you, and you're welcome, Lou
We saw these all the time back in the late 1960s. A friend had one of these, and the trunk wasted lots of space. This was really for hot-rodding only.
Hi Jed, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Friends car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

Hi Dan, Happy to read this is a favorite year Charger for you :-) Glad you enjoy the sounds too, Lou
Chrysler used a specially beefed up version of their 727 Torque flite automatic behind the 426 Hemi. The clutch drums held extra clutches, special bands and special band levers. The hydraulic valve body which controls all the functions of the transmission was also specially calibrated.

Hi Lou, I owned a 1967 Charger in 1977, mine was the much more pedestrian 383 with a two barrel carburetor, but it still could see 125-130 on that 150 MPH speedometer, so a friend told me 😉. Those dash gauges are electroluminescent, they are really special at night.

1/8/2024: Good Day. I have a history with a 66 Hemi Charger, just like this one. My best friend Jim bought one in 1974 from the original owner for $850. It was in perfect condition. The owner and his wife had recently moved to Miami Florida. It was yellow like this one. We did a fare amount of cruising in it. Wonderful car. I've always been a MOPAR guy and have owned three 440 magnums, a 383, and a 340. Eventually, my friend decided to sell the car. While I was trying to get the money together, he sold the car to Rick Finch, the Bass Player for KC & The Sunshine Band. Rick collected many HEMI cars at the time. I met Rick once at the garage in Davie Florida that worked on all of his cars. My friend Jim Cady (a different Jim) owned the Performance Garage. Actually, Rick bought 2 HEMI Chargers before I could. A P.S. My friend Jim and I put a 426 HEMI in his 1967 Dodge Van, that we drove to High School in North Miami Florida in 1971 . Big Dirt Track tires on it. It turned a mid 14 second run at the drags. I still would love to own a 426 HEMI car. This one is beautiful, and The Sound. Thanks to you and the owners for sharing their wonderful car with us. Happy New Year

Goodday Lou,
I haven’t been absent just working 14 hour plus days 5 days a week.
Flat out finally some Lou time.
Again a 1966 Dodge Charger 426 Hemi. Back in 66 this would of blown everyone away with the styling that Fastback arse end.
I would say the Charger was the first & original fastback muscle car back in the day.
There is an Elvis Presley movie where he is a Nascar driver & the car he drives is a 66 Charger with 426 on the bonnet.
Not sure of the name of the movie.
Onto the next Lou video.
