He was confident in his taste of humor. More confident in his own taste than the audience's taste. Like a nerd speaking facts even tho he knows all the dumb ppl around him will disagree.
A lot of those jokes were topical for the time. The one about how the Dr. should keep his day job, killing old people. That was Dr. Kevorkian. He would help people that was dying of painful diseases die with dignity. In my book a hero and ahead of his time.
That joke about Jane Fonda was Savage. Vietnam Vets did not like her anti-war anti-vet speeches during the war. Norm wasn't afraid to bomb and that why he is loved by his peers. He also wouldn't stop telling OJ Jokes and that cost him his Job on SNL but he got the last laugh! SNL was live and he did make mistakes reading the cue cards from time to time but he was so quick that he often rolled with it.
Apparently when he wasn't quite as big yet, if he did well at a club he would go to the green room and hang out for the rest of the night (gambling). But if he bombed?? He would go stand by the door as people were leaving and thank each of them effusively for coming out to the show
Norm actually bombed on purpose sometimes. He knew a joke would bomb and did it anyway. He didn't care. He liked it so he did it.

Those jokes about desserts and suicide were part of his Netflix set "Hitler's Dog". That and "Nothing Special" were his last two specials.

The most galling thing that Jane Fonda did was a photo-op on a North Vietnamese Anti-Aircraft gun.
Norm was the opposite of nervous
No....he's not nervous. That's just his style.
React to Norm Mcdonald jokes that get increasingly more savage
You missed "no box of chocolates for that one" refering to the feminist lawyer 😅
