Turns out CornBoy had more left to it than I thought! Check it out in action here: ua-cam.com/video/b6389vcSXsU/v-deo.html Edit: And SpaceShuttle as well! Congrats to the community on these discoveries! ua-cam.com/video/CcOn23U9ULY/v-deo.html
Uum... TestBirdon sounds like an enemy from Kirby, (1996) Ikkakun means family, other than that idk Kuromado means black window Line Dancer sounds like The koopa challenge in SMO yk Ninjari sounds like NInji PunchMachine sounds like the bowser hat/broozer Shhinobi means stealing, maybe like when you lose this guy will steal your coins...? (Edit, I think its nabbit) Swordon maybe its Kinoko sword like idk (Mario manga vol. 4) Going back to Shieldon: Its in a set with Kinoko sooooo Yokin is deposit LauncherCoinCap is prob coin coffers, like u said or Hat Catapults, not sure abt that
I think the "bee" at 1:37 might have been referencing the Stingby, the bees with stingers on their fronts from 3D Land and 3D World. I know Stingbies don't show up in Odyssey, but the night phase of Metro kingdom has "Urban Stingbies" which look and act similar but are actually mosquitoes.
General thoughts- SandSharks seems like they originally had the wide open spaces in the sand kingdom be inhabited by sharks which would attack Mario (but also he could capture them), and they were a faster mode of travel later replaced by jaxi Also I think that most of the items labeled test were literally just to test one function of controlling a capture, like the testShooter one was to test how shooting inside a capture would work, with settings like fire rage that would be toggled in a game editor. The novice-lever game designer in me really likes these ones Also also, my guess is that 90% of the extras that you had no idea what they meant were attached to various one-off sub areas that later got cut Anyways, this was neat, because it was like a peek into the creative process that went behind Mario Odyssey
To me, skater feels like it could potentially be related to the RC Car minigame from Metro. i'm imagining a minigame where we either capture an actual skater, or someone playing with finger skates, and enter a Skating competition with Tony Hawks Pro Skater style points. i'm probably going way off with this, but it's fun to speculate.
Punch machine sounds like it could be related to the Bowser fights with his hat. Maybe earlier on you had to capture something to hurt him. Which now that I think about it, it is kinda odd that you don't use captures to fight him and it kinda feels like a missed opportunity
I knew Super Mario Kart Wii had .szs files, but I didn't imagine Nintendo would have kept using the format all the way to the Switch. Glad to know why your name has that extension
Perhaps the Bee one is related to the normal Stingby enemy, the ones that look like a Mario-ised bee with the stinger up on front. Maybe it would’ve been a mixed between the Bee Mario power-up with it being able to float up for a bit while having the Urban Stingby’s ability to charge up and swoop through the air.
Man the spider would've been for sure the coolest part. Really good video! Appreciate you writing always something else for the enemies and having different clips ready. Must've taken a lot of time
Btw the oilwalker mightve been the spiders that walk on water like in sunshine. Since irl water walking spiders use a type of oil to glide on the water
I think a likely candidate for the bosstailchild capture could have been the petey bosses from galaxy, instead of hitting the tail to send it back into his face you'd need to possess his tail and fling it into his face similar to madame broodle's boss, possibly being removed because of her inclusion. They're a boss, you hit them with their tail and they are a newly born child out of their egg. Seems like a safe bet to me
Don't know why it'd be in a mario game, but shinobi is the historical name for what are today better known as ninja. At least that's what I heard somewere.
Honestly cool way to make the audio better with the subtitles in a way! I can tell you did that since your mic isn't the best so it added a bit of flair to it!
1. crawler might’ve had something to do with the zombies in sand kingdom 2. dumplingman could’ve been either something like the rc car guys in metro or as a capturable replacement for the golden turnips in luncheon 3. ghostplayer could be like one of those mario clones that does what you do but with a slight delay 4. magnetd was probably originally planned to replace that puzzle at the end of the sewer in metro 5. spiderhang would fit in in ruined 6. handlecar might’ve been an early version of the rc car human capture
I know this video is like a year old so I’m very late but to me dumplingman and cornboy etc made me wonder if luncheon previously was going to have food-based inhabitants instead of just forks? Could have been cool!
2:50 I reckon that BossTailChild is an early version of bowser jr. BossTail reminds me of bowsers tail attack and the child version would be bowser jr. I think that the idea was cut and repurposed into bowser jr's mechanics from bowser's fury. I also think that ghost player could be linked to shadow luigi before the concept of balloon world
*Wow these captures these are so amazing and so interesting l love it all thank you for bringing back the mario oddesy this is perfect your perfect thank you so much for making this l,m so happy to see you do amazing✨😍❤👍👏*
When I first saw ruined kingdom I thought it was supposed to be some sort of haunted kingdom and thought it would be a lot bigger and better and I was disappointed once I realized how small and boring it was.
I like to think that the koopa capture would be used to access koopa freerunning/tracewalking like how you capture a shiverian to access the bound bowl grand prix.
I think the sand shark was going to be like the jaxi; where you could capture it and use it to ride around the kingdom. I imagine that it would attack you similarly to the crocodiles in kirby and the forgotten land but fully burrows underground.
Well Shinobi probably tied in to the theme of Bowser's Kingdom--maybe some type of samurai enemy? Ninjari also makes me think of ninjis, which would have fit into Bowser's Kingdom as well And perhaps MagnetD could have been part of a set of captures for some puzzle in a subarea
TestBirdon is probably a glydon thing. I also think that oil walker was going to be something simular to the oil cans in 2d dk areas, probably similar to poison if they intended to put oil in the 3d game.
> Dumpling man (4:57) Luncheon?? Maybe early fork person? Out of all the places you'd have a dumpling man, surely it would be in the food kingdom right?
im guessing shinobi wouldve been smth related to like,, a ninja enemy?? since im pretty sure shinobi means ninja in jp, tho im not sure this is a really interesting video!! thank u for showing the stuff that didnt make it to the full game
I wonder if Nintendo was going to add a subworld that was like the tiny big island in Super Mario 64, hence all the "big" characters. It's a stretch, but could be possible
MagnetD could of been like a early concept of the pokeio that also attracted coins since I could see a magnet being used to climb walls. The punch ma ein if I had to guess is somehow relates to browsers hat and the handle car mavy the rc car?
wait what on this video in particular for me the subtitles are SUPER different theyre red and i cant change it and the box can be totally transparent its awesome but what
i feel like a lot of these seem like "everything cappy interacts with used to be handled internally as a capture, and then they made a lot of things not handle as a capture because it made more sense to have different systems for them"
Alright
Corn boy might have been an early luncheon citizen (fork) capture!
Uum... TestBirdon sounds like an enemy from Kirby, (1996)
Ikkakun means family, other than that idk
Kuromado means black window
Line Dancer sounds like The koopa challenge in SMO yk
Ninjari sounds like NInji
PunchMachine sounds like the bowser hat/broozer
Shhinobi means stealing, maybe like when you lose this guy will steal your coins...? (Edit, I think its nabbit)
Swordon maybe its Kinoko sword like idk (Mario manga vol. 4)
Going back to Shieldon: Its in a set with Kinoko sooooo
Yokin is deposit
LauncherCoinCap is prob coin coffers, like u said or Hat Catapults, not sure abt that
rigid body box could be a version of the moon cubes where instead of throwing your cap to unlock it you capture it
I imagine the spooky captures like the spiders and the boos were planned for Ruined before the tower section got cut.
as someone currently in a game development class, i love how well this shows off the weird crap we name entities
These unused captures are really interesting! A lot of them would have been pretty cool to see in the game.
I'm just gonna assume that TrainingDasilvaEnemey is a practice enemy for someone named Dasilva, just as TrainingSakaiEnemey was for Kento Sakai :D
good idea!
Honestly not a bad idea!
General thoughts-
SandSharks seems like they originally had the wide open spaces in the sand kingdom be inhabited by sharks which would attack Mario (but also he could capture them), and they were a faster mode of travel later replaced by jaxi

Anyways, this was neat, because it was like a peek into the creative process that went behind Mario Odyssey
That's pretty cool, I hope they do a sequel for this game and use some of those unused captures
Lumations! Thanks for your smo fan cuts and its cool you did some editing for amethest now
To me, skater feels like it could potentially be related to the RC Car minigame from Metro. i'm imagining a minigame where we either capture an actual skater, or someone playing with finger skates, and enter a Skating competition with Tony Hawks Pro Skater style points. i'm probably going way off with this, but it's fun to speculate.

it does seem like a lot of "non captures" were originally captures
I knew Super Mario Kart Wii had .szs files, but I didn't imagine Nintendo would have kept using the format all the way to the Switch. Glad to know why your name has that extension
Perhaps the Bee one is related to the normal Stingby enemy, the ones that look like a Mario-ised bee with the stinger up on front. Maybe it would’ve been a mixed between the Bee Mario power-up with it being able to float up for a bit while having the Urban Stingby’s ability to charge up and swoop through the air.
I like how she’s just casually showing off game breaking glitches the whole time while she is talking
Man the spider would've been for sure the coolest part. Really good video! Appreciate you writing always something else for the enemies and having different clips ready. Must've taken a lot of time
A lot of the ones at the end Sound like cut minigames, like a punching bag one like those carnival machines and stuff like that
Sledge bros would be super fun, they'd be a bit slower with bigger hammers and a groundpound that maybe sends out a shockwave!
Gotten a much better mic since this video but I'm glad they helped this one be a bit better!
I love the glitching while your talking it’s so funny 😂
when BIG in the name it's s funi the sprite you show just THICC
1. crawler might’ve had something to do with the zombies in sand kingdom
2. dumplingman could’ve been either something like the rc car guys in metro or as a capturable replacement for the golden turnips in luncheon
3. ghostplayer could be like one of those mario clones that does what you do but with a slight delay
4. magnetd was probably originally planned to replace that puzzle at the end of the sewer in metro
5. spiderhang would fit in in ruined
6. handlecar might’ve been an early version of the rc car human capture

The list at the end felt like one of those "patreon subscriber list" outros some people do.
6:55 that's a yugioh card name if I've ever seen one! Definitely synchro support.
2:50 I reckon that BossTailChild is an early version of bowser jr. BossTail reminds me of bowsers tail attack and the child version would be bowser jr. I think that the idea was cut and repurposed into bowser jr's mechanics from bowser's fury. I also think that ghost player could be linked to shadow luigi before the concept of balloon world
I think that Punching Machine is the broozer from nsmbu
Ooh! Never thought of that, that's a super good idea!
Oilwalker sounds like it could be the 8-bit fires that jump out of the oil cans in the DK segments
DumplingBoy could have been a Luncheon thing?
I guess similarly - CornBoy could be Luncheon too
Interesting and just... wow. To write down my thoughts on a random one, Bee would probably be too slow and weak compared to even default Mario
About BigMouth. Could it be some sort of reference to Big Mouth Galaxy from Galaxy 1? Its far-fetched but it was the first thing that comes to mind.
Yeah maybe! I would've assumed they'd use the file name of that Galaxy instead but you could totally be right
*Wow these captures these are so amazing and so interesting l love it all thank you for bringing back the mario oddesy this is perfect your perfect thank you so much for making this l,m so happy to see you do amazing✨😍❤👍👏*
Punchmachine might’ve been a version of the big hat you use to punch Bowser
When I first saw ruined kingdom I thought it was supposed to be some sort of haunted kingdom and thought it would be a lot bigger and better and I was disappointed once I realized how small and boring it was.
I like to think that the koopa capture would be used to access koopa freerunning/tracewalking like how you capture a shiverian to access the bound bowl grand prix.
Oh shit koopa capture would have ruled! Maybe use it like the blue shell in New super Mario bros!
man I love the mecha wiggler from wOoDeD kInGdOm
BigMouth from the hit netflix tv show?!
I think the sand shark was going to be like the jaxi; where you could capture it and use it to ride around the kingdom. I imagine that it would attack you similarly to the crocodiles in kirby and the forgotten land but fully burrows underground.
Meachawiggler---- in WOODED KINGDOM
I woke up early just for the premiere!
Well Shinobi probably tied in to the theme of Bowser's Kingdom--maybe some type of samurai enemy?
Ninjari also makes me think of ninjis, which would have fit into Bowser's Kingdom as well
And perhaps MagnetD could have been part of a set of captures for some puzzle in a subarea
i will not rest until we see cornboy back in the game, i will not sleep until this injustice is served!!!!
Line dancer might have had a rhythm mini game
TestBirdon is probably a glydon thing.
I also think that oil walker was going to be something simular to the oil cans in 2d dk areas, probably similar to poison if they intended to put oil in the 3d game.
> Dumpling man (4:57)
Luncheon?? Maybe early fork person? Out of all the places you'd have a dumpling man, surely it would be in the food kingdom right?
Yoo Sand stark like a molduga!
Ah yes Mechawigglerer from wooded kingdom
My guess for ninjari is that it probably was a ninji and punchmachine probably was something similar to the broozer
im guessing shinobi wouldve been smth related to like,, a ninja enemy?? since im pretty sure shinobi means ninja in jp, tho im not sure
this is a really interesting video!! thank u for showing the stuff that didnt make it to the full game
I think ghost player could have been gooigi from luigis mansion 3.
I wonder if Nintendo was going to add a subworld that was like the tiny big island in Super Mario 64, hence all the "big" characters. It's a stretch, but could be possible
Maybe citymanflying was like the rc car guy
But with an rc plane or something
tbh i think the "PunchMachine" is like Bowser's hat in the fight
MagnetD could of been like a early concept of the pokeio that also attracted coins since I could see a magnet being used to climb walls. The punch ma ein if I had to guess is somehow relates to browsers hat and the handle car mavy the rc car?
wait what on this video in particular for me the subtitles are SUPER different theyre red and i cant change it and the box can be totally transparent its awesome but what
I think punch machine is the hat for bowser in cloud and moon kingdom
2:54 "MechaWiggler in Wooded Kingdom" come on amethyst you should know your kingdoms
What If FrogBig was actually a frog that could eat stuff with its tongue?
so basically, everything in smo would have been a proper capture at some point, and some extra noise, right? appreciate the video!
Big statue possessed is the statue but big when mario captures it because it changes when mario captures it
shinobi is probably the ninji
The oil one reminds me of part of metro, i don't remember what though
Could be the ice skates from 3D world
Electric man could be thunder bro
Shinobi is a ninja
Wouldn't dumpling man fit in luncheon?
I think ninjari could probably be a ninji
i feel like a lot of these seem like "everything cappy interacts with used to be handled internally as a capture, and then they made a lot of things not handle as a capture because it made more sense to have different systems for them"
I think bigmouth might have to do with bigmouth galaxy in mario galaxy
Uum... TestBirdon sounds like an enemy from Kirby, (1996)
Ikkakun means family, other than that idk
Kuromado means black window
Line Dancer sounds like The koopa challenge in SMO yk
Ninjari sounds like NInji
PunchMachine sounds like the bowser hat/broozer
Shhinobi means stealing, maybe like when you lose this guy will steal your coins...? (Edit, I think its nabbit)
Swordon maybe its Kinoko sword like idk (Mario manga vol. 4)
Going back to Shieldon: Its in a set with Kinoko sooooo
Yokin is deposit
LauncherCoinCap is prob coin coffers, like u said or Hat Catapults, not sure abt that
hover double accel could've been fludd
boffun might have been a bobomb
Wait… there was going to be a mecha wiggler fight in wooded kingdom??
I think they meant metro. But the boss in wood is also a machine.
Why does the boo have a german name? 12:50
Oh god that microphone.
Oh trust me, I bought a new microphone right after recording this video cause I could barely stand to even edit it
they could have made the boo like galaxy
15:25 GENERAL SHINOBI
I feel like gemy is Lemmy
you make good video
9:13 throw them into the void duh
Magnet Dong
Hi
