You’re both right of course. Perhaps a fairer test would be to have EBay tee off from the tee and second ball from 25 yards in front. He would be much more aware of where he needed to aim to avoid bunkers and tough etc with the 25 yards advanced drive which would give a fairer result.
On last hole Petes +25 put him out of bunker but drive rolled 25 yards into bunker so if he flew it 25 yards more he would have flown it into bunker anyways. So i guess sometimes the +25 yards can still put you into trouble. Great video.
The shorter the iron on approach shots, the more greens handicap golfers will hit, think the stats back it up. When this was filmed originally, Ebay must have had a quick lesson off Dave the Rave, before venturing out to play this game. 😅🤣😂 Liam stitched up again, like a kipper.
Luke Donald was told he needed to add distance and look what happened🤔The one thing I would have changed alternated second shot normal 1st hole then +25 second hole
Great video I am 79 and over the last few years I have lost them 25-30 yards watched lots of videos to try and get them back at no avail none worked can YOU HELP Cheers
Not necessarily. Most golfers hit driver most of the time off the tee, leading to that club actually being straighter off the tee than shorter clubs that they are not used to. How many times do you see players decide to lay up on a tight hole, then put themselves in trouble with the shorter club anyway? I'll swing away and give myself a chance at glory, thank you. And if I hit it in the rough, at least I'll be closer to the green than I would have been with a crooked shorter club off the tee. As Dave points out, the data is clear (no matter the course), players will score statistically lower with shorter shots in to the green.
Better vid would be to see Ebay hit one normal ball THEN try to hit one harder with more swing speed and 25yrds longer like BC...would be a bit different than just adding the 25 yrds straight to his normal shot...pretty obv he should shoot lower if just magically gifted 25 but it has to come from somewhere.
There is absolutely no doubt that distance is extremely important in shooting lower scores. As I've said many times in these comments, you have to try to go low to go low. If your major goal in golf is to avoid high scores, then you want to hit fairways. But in doing so, you are ensuring mediocrity. You will very rarely go low with this conservative mindset. If you go for longer tee shots and play aggressively, you give yourself a chance at a career round every time you play. Are you going to be less consistent, with the possibility of a crooked day and a bad score occasionally, yes. But I'd much rather risk the occasional blowup to give myself a chance at an exciting day than play to avoid high scores and guarantee mediocrity all the time. Honestly, if I were forced to play with a conservative mindset, I'd quit the game.
An absolute treat to watch this man play, so knowledgeable!
The Golf mates gold are great! Keep posting if possible!
One measurement is worth 1000 expert opinions.
This is gold, Jerry!
Any video with Dave in is a winner. Keep them coming Liam, loving the old stuff
I'm enjoying these old videos again Liam. 😊

I think the result would have been even more in favour of the plus 25 yard drive. Distance is king - as long as you’re reasonably straight.
Great video and I'm surprised that 25 yds distance is better than the middle of the fairway in most cases.

Great advice from Dave 😊
Liam never doubt Dave the Pro!
Hé Liam keep them coming those old video's cant wait for the spring and the summer greetings from Holland ⛳️👍
Great video!
Great video Liam sometimes trying to add distance can affect your game ... But we all want to hit it further 😊
Brilliant video Liam Ebay Pete and Dave
Love the golf mate gold, look forwards to new one in 2025
Nice to see no rain with EBay Pete .
What good experiment
Brilliant video, now all I need to do is hit it 25 yards further hahaha

No one who ever played golf has ever wished they were shorter !
Luke Donald was told he needed to add distance and look what happened🤔The one thing I would have changed alternated second shot normal 1st hole then +25 second hole
Distance all the time 25 yrds brings a lot of greens into play in 2 for a mid handicap player 👏👏👍💙
Great video I am 79 and over the last few years I have lost them 25-30 yards watched lots of videos to try and get them back at no avail none worked can YOU HELP Cheers
Us stableford bandits rely on the short but straight method.
Please ask Dave to give instruction on how to get that extra 25 yards. thank you
Thats why Ebay should tee off 25 yards up from where you do in your matches. Did I miss the distance tips from Dave?
Hard to say what was best as putting was the key
There was only 1 hole where the 25 yards impactful. Putting and duff shots made more impact
Daves theory is only valid when the rough is short ish, if it's long and tough then you're in trouble.

Some Salman Rushdie putting there certainly

He tries to hit it as hard as he can and I’d say it doesn’t always work, he nearly does his back with his overswing practice swings
If you just improves consistency, distance will or might not come, but as you get that comsistency your scores should come down.
If the first ball lands in a bunker, no guarantee that the extra 25 yards would escape the bunker...
I don’t know what this proved, you can only play your own game with your own equipment. 🤔
I predict for Peter it won't make any difference, just after the first hole
