- Join us as we bird Buena Vista Grasslands in winter. The Buena Vista Wildlife Area is a 12,700 acre property in Portage County, WI and is home to the state's largest population of Greater Prairie-Chickens. The grasslands attract many birders who search for these chickens, as well as other grassland birds south as Northern Shrikes, Snowy Owls, Rough-legged Hawks, and more.

Excellent video, love the outing 👍 good job
I love the greater prairie chickens. Those elaborate mating dances! One wonders how that ever evolved!
Great vid as usual guys
Thank you!
Awesome trip guys! Loved that you saw the Northern Shrike, American Kestrel, and of course the awesome Snowy Owl. I've yet to see one... someday I will!
Thanks, Lesley! Hoping you get that Snowy soon 👍
Short eared owl: the nighthawk of winter.
That was alot of fun .
I love the paire chicken and there dance . The native Indians copyed them .
Seeing this area of Wisconsin is neat . Didn't know anything about it or the grass land .
Thankyou for taking us along on the trip .
Look forward to more .
Thanks! Thanks for watching!
Love that you mentioned bostick at the end
Haha had to!
BVG is one of my favorite places to go birding. I’ll have to check to see if you guys have a video of being there in the summer. The bobolinks are delightful to see.
We’d like to do one during summer at some point too and highlight the GPC displays.
Good stuff amigos!
On my list of places to visit next time we’re in WI!
We would recommend it!
Wow y’all had a great day!.. I have never photographed an owl.. I hear them in my yard.. but never see them.. I’ve looked around all my trees for their carcass like.. but never see the owls.. anyway.., I too love ravens... great video.., thanks ☮️
Thanks for watching! Hoping you get to seen that owl soon 👍
You make me want to see Wisconsin , for cheese and birds .
Those are definitely two great reasons to visit.
Impressive day! Thanks for sharing. Neat to see the chickens roosting together in the tree.
Thanks for watching! Yeah they almost look like Christmas tree ornaments when they all sit up like that.
How is it that you guys have made Wisconsin look like an exotic birding destination to me?
It is 😮
Birding in Wisconsin is incredible
Looks like an incredible grassland habitat. Hopefully one day I can get up that way to see it! Great video with great birds.
Thanks, man! You should definitely make it up to WI sometime. Horicon Marsh is a must see destination as well.
Good variety of bird species in that area. I'm still on the lookout for a Short-eared Owl up here in the Ottawa area. Thanks for sharing.
Best of luck with the search!
If you find it you have to say “look at that flat face”
Your channel has grown nicely. I started watching when you had only 72 subscribers. Another great birding video! 🙂
Thanks for being with us from the start! ❤️
Just stumbled on this, fuckin a boys perfect blend of location, environment, and biology descriptions with ID tips.
please never change the intro music it's goated
Haha thanks!
Many people assume that Eurasian kestrel is as small as the American kestrel but it’s in fact quite a bit larger- being about the second largest falcon in the UK- peregrines being the largest and merlons being our smallest but in Southern Europe we also have lesser kestrels which are one of our smallest falcons and tend to stick in large groups contrary to the Eurasian kestrel which tends to be solitary.
Have you seen the long eared owl?
6:24 looks like a Loggerhead Shrike, not a Northern.
Its pronounced Byouna Vista XD
Bayou Vista
@@BadgerlandBirding My Mom grew up in Buena Vista Colorado and that is how they say it there so it makes her mad when it is pronounced correctly. See even has a sticker with the phonetic spelling of how they say it.
@@ezramurray3455 looks like Buena Vista, Colorado is pronounced that way but this one is pronounced the other way :)
