your videos are really great. you couldn't imagen how much it was benefiting me. If possible, I would like to request if you can prepare a video explaining how we can calculate the allowable area of mixed occupancies. for example if we have a mixed-use building with commercial and covered parking garage in 1st floor and 3 or 4 stories of residential above it. (residential above the podium).

We design separation walls that don't require 1hr almost as if they were one hour. We implement all the same elements except for the penetration. This way if in the future they do want or need to make it one hour it is already almost there. Thanks for this video ! That big chart is intimidating !

why does the result change when you flip the ocupancy group for example b to r is not required but r to b is 2 hours ?

I can’t thank you enough for these videos. As someone using EN and BS for years, it has been quite a challenge for me to even start reading IBC. With you videos, it took me minutes to figure it out.
Still there is one thing that I could not understand. Separated occupancies and fire area requirements. Let’s say I have an office 11,000 sf and warehouse 3,000 sf, no sprinklers. As per separated occupancies method, I don’t need fire resistant separation between these occupancies. I don’t need sprinklers in warehouse either, as I don’t go over fire areas requirement for S1 building. But, as S1 is more restrictive, do I still need to say that S1 requirements will be applied through the building and therefore I will need 3 hour barriers to decrease the fire area ?
Hope I am clear and I would be appreciated if you answer.

Not sure what you mean by S1 requirements. S1 in itself does not have fire rating requirements. Stop thinking of "office" and "warehouse" and starting thinking "B Occupancy" and "S1 Occupancy". If a fire separation is need per Chapter 5 Table 508.4, then such fire rated separation must be provided unless you can use an "exception" to not separate them. If you do not meet those exceptions, you must provide the required separation.
"Building Types" as per Chapter 6 dictate how your building should be built to meet the building type requirements. This is regardless of your occupancy.
How big a building may be (Chapter 5) is dependent on the Building Type (Chapter 6) and Occupancy Groups (Chapter 3) within the building. Fire ratings may be required because of the Building Type (Chapter 6) and also because of the different occupancy groups in the building (Table 508.4).
There are more scenarios, exceptions, requirements, etc. but this is a start...

Not sure what you mean by CSS. Setbacks are not a building code issue. They are a zoning code issue. That may be why you can't find it in the building code. Try looking at the zoning code.
is there are a suitable membrane can apply on exterior wall like waterproofing application and how can i say that is shall be fire rated and suitable or not ?

The hardest part of this chart is knowing to start across the top or the side. Your video shows across the top first. Is this the rule of thumb?
You can start form either the side or the top. If the answer is “-“ simply do it the other way to get the answer. It happens to all of us.

There can be doors provided in the separation. As for the rating, chapter 7, section 716 has a table that notes the required rating for the door and door assembly within "fire barriers". Different ratings obviously require different levels of rating. Check out table 716.1(2)

What is the difference about the separation between occupancies horizontally (floors) ?
The required separation is the same, whether the separation is vertical (occupancies next to each other) or horizontal (occupancies on top/below each other)
