    I think a Patreon account is a great idea. Different patreon levels with different rewards. Some ideas I would have is that the videos would be provided to Patreon members ahead of the UA-cam publish. Access to patreon feed that would be the pool from which recommendations would be drawn for future videos. Maybe some "Archicorner trained" merch or something along those lines. Patron name listed on Archicorner video or page. If you decided to do some sort of live stream for a Q&A session, that would be a higher level. Lots of possibilities.

    Thank you for the explanation. Best one I've seen yet. One question, is the Refuge Area only needed if the two areas are two different tenants? If it is a single tenant floor, then the refuge area is not needed? They just exit straight through one side to the other. Did I understand that correctly? Thanks Again!

    How abouth the size of the door to passed the occupant of 400 on the second scenario?

  • @brennangraves6458
    @brennangraves6458 Місяць тому

    There is one issue I have with your explanation of the scenario @ 11:00; assuming that the direction of egress can be either way, you'd need to provide double egress frames, at least at the capacities you've stated, as well as accounting for loading width in each direction, do you agree?

    • @archicorner
      @archicorner  Місяць тому

      There are at least two options. Option 1: As you stated, have double-egress frames or Option 2: Have two sets of doors with each set of doors opening in opposite directions.
      I believe you understand the concept correctly.

  • @3boody8811

    Can you please provide an example explaining "where two or more exits are
    required, not more than one-half of the total number of exits or total exit minimum width or required capacity shall be horizontal exits"

    • @archicorner
      @archicorner  5 місяців тому

      It is NOT that they HAVE TO BE horizontal exits. Instead, IF you are using horizontal exits, you are limited to the number of horizontal exits that you may have. I hope that makes sense.

  • @taranehdarvish4962
    @taranehdarvish4962 2 роки тому

    Can this refuge area minimum sf be used as the "walkway clear space" in the side of space B or A, with 6 or 8' feet clear width and length from the horizontal exit door to the actual exterior exit door (no starir cases, one story bldg)?

    Its great. But what should be the door swinging direction? Should I install two fire doors?

    • @archicorner
      @archicorner  7 місяців тому

      Doors need to swing in the direction of egress. Confused yet? This may get complicated quick... In short, you may need one door swing in one direction and another swinging in the other direction. This allows the horizontal exit to serve both sides.

  • @tiffanyurosa4502

    Hello Sir,
    I am grateful to have acome across archi corner. You are really amazing!
    I had a question and a request:
    #Question- In case of multistory buildings, do we require to have horizontal exit spaced (refuge areas) on all the floors if we choose to introduce this concept?
    #Request: Please make a video on Industrial buildings ( F and H group) that will explain difference between F and H groups. Elaborate H-1 to H-5 categories based on Table 307.1. How to figure out which class and group my industrial building fits in etc etc.
    NFPA 101 mentions a different catagory "special purpose industrial occupancy".
    What is the definition of this term and more info.
    Requesting to throw some light on this topic.
    Thank you!

    Hi sir, thank you for all your amazing videos. Questions regarding the horizontal distance, do they have to be connected with a vertical exit or is it okay that they do not lead to a way that will take people outside of the building? If a corridor has a 2 hour rating, can it be counted as horizontal exit? If so, what is the different between an exist passage way and horizontal exit? Thank you!

  • @caralawson419
    @caralawson419 2 роки тому

    Thank you for creating this wonderful channel and intro is perfect. Question on this video. Would a horizontal exit be the same as an exit enclosure?

    • @caralawson419
      @caralawson419 2 роки тому

      also can you explain why this would not be the same as an Area of Refuge?

    • @archicorner
      @archicorner  2 роки тому

      "Exit enclosure" is a term that is often used, but not really an IBC term (you wont find a definition for "exit enclosure" in chapter 2). The IBC talks about "enclosures" and "exits". Some "enclosures" may lead to or be part of and "exit" and for that reason it may be referred to as an "exit enclosure". For example, a stairwell might be built as an "enclosure". Perhaps that is why people sometimes use the term "exit enclosure" to refer to them or similar items. In short, a horizontal exit would not be the same as exit enclosure simply because the IBC doesn't even have "exit enclosures".

  • @fabiolaesquivel2921
    @fabiolaesquivel2921 2 роки тому

    What is the difference between a horizontal exit and fire wall?

    • @archicorner
      @archicorner  2 роки тому

      A horizontal exit is an exit system composed of, amongst other things, fire rated walls.

  • @steffanmoran9580
    @steffanmoran9580 2 роки тому

    Just for clarification, the horizontal exit does not have to extend through the building vertically does it? Meaning it would create the horizontal exit through the building/floors.

    • @archicorner
      @archicorner  2 роки тому

      A horizontal exit does not extend "through".... Instead, you can think of it as it is extending "up to" and/or "connecting to" the building's main exit system. In most instances, this means extending to and connecting to a stairwell.
