I was at an estate sale where the entire contents of the house and property were being auctioned off. Up for auction was a small cloth bag with a pile of coins that were covered with dirt and such. I paid $7 for the bag full. I discovered 22 large cents with the oldest a very nice 1794 I happily discovered after soap and water cleaning. After watching your fantastic videos, I realized that these coins were dug coins and I wondered if the bag was the man's collection of large cents, he found metal detecting over the years. Then I wished I knew where he found all those coins and wondered if they were all found from one area. It is our loss for not knowing this collector and learning about his old metal detecting haunts. Just how much history do we all walk over in our travels.
ya its possible
Wondering if you packed out the moose skull? I carried a buffalo skull two miles once. After the first half mile that buffalo skull gained a bunch of weight! By the time I got it back to the truck? I think my arms stretched two feet longer! I was a young man in those days. Wish I'd never had sold it! But, young and dumb.
Women in the 1800s frowned on having a tan. It was popular to use bonnets, parasols, and use buttermilk on their face as sunblock. Probably why there are so many parasols in the ground.
Thanks for your comment. It is so interesting to think about what we view as privelege and wealth over time, but there is the consistent idea of wealth = leisure time. In the 1800s women of leisure were priveleged enough to stay out of the sun. Today, women of wealth have the privelege of relaxing in the sun.
Also probably a fashion accessory as well. A parasol to match every outfit, maybe?
Many women used Arsenic to keep their skin white as well, but I'd rather deal with a light tan than to poison myself!!!!! 😱
Only poor women who worked the fields had tans...the higher up you were in social levels, the paler you had to be!
White skin was definitely a sign of an upperclass woman.
I would love to see some of the items you find after you've cleaned them just to see more detail. Nice finds as always.
Like the writing on the back of the gilded button
Happy Friday everyone! Another great video! Amazing finds from out in the middle of nowhere. Love the moose skull! Brad, love how you make possible stories to go with the items! ❤
Good Morning Brad, this place seems to have a special feel to it; and it felt that there'd not been many people roaming back in there. Did you feel that too?.. The moss covering the rocks at the spring was so beautiful.. Thank you for sharing
Love your videos, the music, the mountains and your enthusiasm.
I love the plants you show. I grew up in the Appalachian hills of East Tennessee. As kids we didn't have toys so we played in the hills. You're videos bring back memories. The cross is awesome! Thank You for taking me with you!
I grew up on a farm in Kansas ! So getting to see some scenery in other states to me is awesome ! I've driven through most of the states west of the Mississippi River and only a few east of the Mississippi River !
I live in East Tennessee in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mins National park. There's a lot of history to see driving through our beautiful Mtns.
Oh man, visiting the Appalachian hills is my dream. I'd never leave, I'm convinced of that.
@@peggybaxter8480uhg I bet it's beautiful there
digginwithdude
Our mtns. are beautiful and most people are caring and have a bond with the land. This area has grown by leeps and bounds after the lock down and a lot of people come with the idea of changing us and "teaching" us how things should be. We might not have the college degrees but--!== our people, hills, and mind are amazing! If you should come to Tenn. Unless you like sitting in traffic avoid Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge on our end of the park. Too much information! 😊 Thanks for your reply!
That crucifix was large. Possibly worn by a Priest? Or Nun?
I agree...that was my first thought that a priest lost it
The crucifix is so large I believe it was part of a "rosary" or worn by a priest. Beautiful intricate piece ❣️
Because it is so large I think it is not a rosary. Unless it was hung on a wall. Any rosaries I've seen that were used to pray the rosary have smaller crucifixes. Like You mention, it could be a crucifix worn by a priest or nun, those were larger.
I thought same thing. To big for necklace.
@@RichardTClark396 I have seen some large crosses worn around the necks of nuns and priests thought. Or around the waist like a belt.
Awesome finds and video, the cross was my favorite. Wondering if maybe from a priest. I would love to detect with you one day, such a story teller and your finds just are very cool.
Please play your intro just a tad longer...love the music and the scene. Making these long treks into the backcountry, have you ever considered backpacing in a ultralight tent and gear...maybe some footage around a small fire, going over the finds of the day while enjoying some fresh brewed campfire coffee? Then, get up the next morning and swinging some more?
He is a family man let him stick to a day off.
@@1898time I wasn't suggesting he leave his family and move to the woods but maybe an occasional night camping trip on these long trips in would be fun and cool.
Every Friday morning like clockwork. I always look forward to your videos. That crucifix was an amazing find. Very special. Thanks for the work you put into creating your content.
Every time I see you find a parasol ring ☂️,
I can imagine a Prissy Pampered Jewel sitting there wondering to herself 🤔
What in the Hell am I doing here.😱
The pattern on the button looks more like an Oak leaf then a fern.
You always find some of the best finds! Excellent video. I’m sure you had a great time unpacking your backpack after that! Nicely done!
Really nice find !
I think it was part of a rosary, considering the level of detail. It's a little big for everyday wear.
I was thinking that also part of a Rosary
It also looked as though the ring that held it on to the rosary was slightly sprung. It could have just fallen off and not been noticed.

At the time of the Revolutionary war, less than 1% of the population was Catholic. At the time of the war of northern aggression, it was less than 5%. Not saying it's impossible, but it's less likely during a time when this country hadn't surrendered to the papacy like it has today.
Thank you for another great adventure and for taking us with you. I always look forward to Green Mountain Metal Detecting Fridays.
Love your Friday videos. Would love to see your display room.
When I watch your videos, I get spun into the who, the what, the why, the where, and a million more questions. I know people that have none of this curiosity and that makes me wonder too. Great videos!
Nice bunch of finds! Maybe a short of that Crotal Bell all cleaned up?
Excellent video Brad. Especially what you found, the cool relics the small ox knob, buttons. The awesome drape bust large cent and the old cross.
I really look forward to your uploads on Friday helps to make my day Cheers fro Ireland 🇮🇪
Awesome video Brad, as always love your editing. Easy to watch. Great VT finds! Keep it up man and best of luck, all the best!
Let’s go let’s go treasure and adventure 💕🌺✌️👵
Hello Brad. I have watched a ton of your videos way back from the beginning of your channel. I have never commented on any until now. I will say you sir put out the best detecting videos on UA-cam. From the way you explain things to just the way you carry yourself. The music is wonderful, just the overall way you do your videos is absolutely great. I look forward to every Friday to see what you find next. God Bless you and your family
Brad, a crucifix bearing the Body of Christ is unique. Not all crosses have this and only certain denominations include the "Corpus." Since the Catholic church established a presence in Vermont from 1609, it possibly belonged to a Catholic parishioner. Anglican, Lutheran, and Eastern Orthodox are also possible.
Great finds, I love the cross. I hope it cleans up nice for you. Keep Diggin.
The difference between a cross and a crucifix is the figure of Christ.
I've been watching this Turkish metal detecting channel, deniz something, and he has a device that detects precious metals. He uses that to steer him towards an area then uses his metal detector to zero in. It's the craziest thing I've ever seen. The translation calls it a field scanner but I'm sure that's not what we would call it.
They find gold ancient crucifixes and other ancient gold and and silver that's been hidden (plastered) into what looks like ordinary rock outcroppings. Most are rocks plastered together so come apart easily. Stuff from ottoman empire, Egyptian, Roman, Greek. It's crazy.
Y'all are the only 2 channels I watch. You should check it out and see if you know what device he uses. He posts every other day at least.
That crucifix looks like one a Catholic priest would wear. Most Christian crosses don't have Jesus on it. Also the size. The man could have been killed by Indians. I seriously doubt it was thrown out like trash in a place like that.
A Catholic crucifix in a mostly Protestant state. Very nice find! Perhaps part of a Rosary.
Great video Brad! Love that big crotal bell, crucifix, fern button, and Large cents! You have been killing the Large Cents this year! How come we didn't see the moose skull in the wrap up? I hope you took it with you. Great job sir and see you next Friday!
Hello
I absolutely love that crucifix. Another great video!.
Glad you caught that Todd, a crucifix, not a cross.
Great! That must have been a beautiful place to live. Seems sometimes I was born a few hundred years too late.
Awesome finds! 💪 We just found a huge ring 💍 Saturday at a local Western New York park Saturday, posted it up on our channel!💥🎥
We can only hope that one day you find that treasure chest.
Love the video and the treasures. Thanks for the trip to the mountains.
Another great video. The cross is crucifix because it has Jesus on it. Take care.
Hello Brad and happy Friday! I wanted to ask you how you find where houses once were in the middle of nowhere? I live in Michigan and would love to check out places where a house once stood a hundred or two years ago. I have no clue what the first step would even be to seek out these old home sites. Thanks for the help I greatly appreciate it!
I do a lot of metal detecting myself. One time trading stories with another detectorist, he claimed that he found a gold ring one time, and when he dug it up, it was on a finger… and he proceeded to find a whole body there. Buried in a shallow grave…
I don’t know if I believe that one. But I guess it’s possible.
Yikes,I think I would have just let the ring stay where it was found .
and he didnt report it
@@swampfizz oh no, he did report it. According to the story, there was a cemetery nearby and it had to be moved because it was flooding and causing problems… so it was not some kind of crime scene. A burial that got away you could say.
He also told me he could tell the difference between a pull tab and a gold ring with his awesome expensive metal detector so I was suspicious of him right away.
Awesome finds brother thank you so very much for sharing 👍👍❤️
Brad, your videos are a highlight of my Fridays. Keep them coming. 📽
In England, there were people who sold umbrellas on the sidewalks. Unlike shop-sold ones or ones sold by umbrella-makers. These were shoddy “reconditioned” umbrellas which were often coated with something to make them look waterproof but which melted away when it rained. They counted on people being caught out without an umbrella. It was probably one of the more common street scams.
I watch many metal detecting channels, but yours is always my favorite! Thank you and I can't wait till next Friday!
I agree, Brad and hoover boys my go to first
i have an 1803 in the same shape i was told they only made around 300? also told mine was worth around 40 bucks. nice find i loved finding mine my first old us copper cent find. those are all cool finds !
Did ya pack that skull out? Great video1
Awesome hunt, Brad!! You never cease to amazed me with you editing skills. That old Cross was the owners' treasure for sure!!
Another fabulous video, Brad! Your B-Roll feeds our souls…and your finds feed our interest and education!
I once found a parasol slide; and could tell it was very purposefully built…but ended up throwing it out before learning what it was!?!?! I could kick myself…but at least I kept the ladies' boot heel plate, with a heart cutout from the same site. I only wish I’d been making videos back then…
Friday morning coffees and Brad. ❤
Awesome spot this week. Congratulations on this finds, especially the bell and Crucifix! WOW on that one, Brad! 👍
Quite a interesting array of artifacts. I'm already looking forward to next Friday's video. BTW, I was excited for you when you found the Bell. Keep up the great work. Bill from NC.
Went digging with a spoon for fun. I was digging by a root of a tree and found a Indian head center 1899!! Pretty Kristy but I FOUND IT!. And a very thin green garder belt clip. Probably late 18 early 1900s. Baltimore had a fire in 1907 that burnt the city down they trucked and dumped all the debri in Dundalk MD. Where I live. Now the metal detector is going over there with me TODAY!❤❤❤❤ LOVE YOUR VIDEOS BRAD. I have learned so very much from you.
Awsome day for you, good job
Hi Brad,
Really enjoy your videos, well done. Can you please say what detector you're using? I swing a "Nox 600" and my numbers don't go higher than say 42. Thank you!
Keep Swinging!
I dont know if you believe in sasquatch BUT when you almost got hit in the head with that stick that was SASQUATCH doing that..usually a juvie messing around..no worries they were just playing..
Metal detecting presented perfectly, Just enough swinging, digging and cleaning, Images selected to show only interesting things. Discussion of objects found usually brief but sufficient. Brad is respectful of Vermont and its early settlers, Nice job.
I grew up on an old farm in the woods of Rhode Island, back in the early 50s, had burn barrel. We also had our own dump for glass and metals.oh how i wish i had some of the old glass jars bottles. Your videos always bring to life back in the good old days. Thank you .❤️
Awesome finds today CONGRATULATIONS 😊
Great location probably more there about. 2 nice coppers & that big crotal bell. But IMO the find of the day was the beautiful crucifix which probably made them heartbroken losing. Nice hunt Brad.
Thanks for posting, Brad.
They found one of those either the same size or larger on Stealth Diggers video yesterday in New Hampshire I think. It was down a old cart path near the bottom, it probably rolled down there when it fell off 100 plus years ago. It was the guy who found its second bell of the day, the first was a conestoga.
From watching your videos over the years, I’ve many times wondered why when you’re wondering out loud how an artifact got there, you haven’t mentioned possible Indian attack. After doing a quick Google search, I learned that by the end of the Revolutionary War, the attacks had mostly stopped, but with just a few during the War of 1812. This from The Conquest of Vermont, Vermont Indian Troubles in Context, by Colin G Galloway. The coin from 1803 made me think of it.
Brad another awesome video good seeing ya again. The mountains are beautiful ; once again she gives up some of her treasures . What a Friday you get me going in the morning. God bless be safe stay well until next Friday when we meet again ;KEEP DIGGING
Wow Brad. Super great digs. If metal could talk huh. It could tell the story of how it ended up there. Probably wind tore the parasols apart, making them usless, so they were tossed. The crucifix is so cool. Have a great weekend with the family. T4S. 👍😘
I love Fridays; I watch you before my coffee!
I’ve been doing some family genealogy, and it turns out that my DNA relatives are mostly located in Vermont and to the northwest of that region. It brings it home that it could have been my family out there homesteading.
I'd like to think that the crucifix was lost by a French-Canadian Catholic lumberjack. He probably felt rather unprotected after losing it.
Great hunt awesome crucifix pendant looking forward to next week God Bless and happy dirt fishing…Virgil
Great Hunt there Brad. Love all the Relics and Buttons. Especially the last Button withe the leaf design. Congrats on the Coppers and Cordal Bell. Really Love the the Cross you found. That one is awesome. Take Care
I love the religious finds! The crucifix looks like off of a rosary maybe? Also the Miraculous medals started being made in 1830 believe. Great day of saving treasures again!
Are we being politically correct about the crucifix? Perhaps someone was cutdown by savages. By the way, do you ever see a choice piece of land that you yearn for. Every segment I think, "Yeah, that's it."
Again Brad you knocked it out of the park! I'm telling you every Friday this is almost the second thing that I do is watch your video. First being that I get my first cup of coffee. Love the narrative and knowledge.
Very cool finds Brad, miss going out and looking for treasure. You live in some of the oldest parts of the United States with great history, love the cross, I bet who ever lost that lost a very important part of their life. Will see you next Friday. 👍❤️🇺🇸
Don't forget about your Jesuit rings. Those are Catholic, religious and quite old. Traded with the indians. Maybe you were only talking about findings in Vermont.
in her Amelia Peabody series, author Elizabeth Peters protagonist was a woman archeologist in a family of British archeologists who lived in Egypt around the late 1880s to early 1900s. Amelia always had her parasols made extra sturdy in case she needed to bring it down on the head of an attacker, with an extra sharp point which was quite useful for moving people out of her way in crowds. People frequently attacked her.
I recently found a very similar cross, only slightly larger in size. Near a mountain river. And it was in the Czech Republic
You find a lot of treasure chest locks, here’s hoping you find one on top of a pile of treasure one day. I love your videos and wish you and your family the best! 🥰💕👍👍
Love your videos always brings back memories of running thru the woods in Shaftsbury as a kid. Thank you.
Great finds,Brad especially that cross. Really love your music, too. Happy hunting
Thanks for another great video Brad. Congrats on the great finds! I wonder whether the crucifix has the letters I N R I (Latin acronym for Jesus of Nazareth King of the Jews) inscribed on the banner at the top?
Nice finds Brad!! Was a really great day digging. The cross was an amazing find! Hope you were able to carry out the moose skull!! Do you ever pick mushrooms while scouting around? And also how do you keep yourself safe from bears, moose or coyotes? Do you carry a gun for safety? Love your videos and enjoy your presentations or guesses of what you find. Always entertaining!!
You mentioned little holes in the back of the crucifix . . . Roman Catholic priests would carry a Sacrament kit when they were doing home visits. It contained vials of holy water, a little container for some hosts, and the crucifix would affix to the front of the kit through a keyhole type of connection where the knobs would slide into the holes in the crucifix, and lock it in place. I am just guessing that it could apply to your find, but it's a potential explanation. I've been following you for years. I'm a subscriber and I love your channel. Looks like you've made some changes to your videos; back to the old "tried and true." I like all your work, so whatever you're doing with the channel, I'm a supporter.
Growing up in the NEK I appreciate your video. I live in the white mountains and do a fair amount of metal detecting. Enjoy your program very much.
Hi Brad. You probably knew, but it's a crucifix. More than a cross.
Brad, I've been watching for a couple of years. Wildly interesting and something I've always wanted to do. Did you ever do a show that displays all of the great things that you have, in your collection? Especially all cleaned up and labeled or I.D. Keep it up, love your productions.
The crucifix was probably part of a rosary.
Morning Brad, enjoying my Friday morning coffee and your video. What a great combination. Great hunt and finds. See you next Friday.
Once I lost my gold ring at the beach, Now I know where and how to find it. If I'm not late or else some lucky guy with a metal detector might have found it...
@8:42 The crucifix may have been buried with someone. :-(
It could also be part of a rosary, keep checking the area for the other medals/parts of the rosary!
I look forward to my weekly trip to the beautiful mountains of Vermont with you. This New England girl thanks you.
I like the research you do and the numbers your getting before digging. I’ve tried looking at old maps and comparing them with today’s maps. What machine are you using?
I love watching your videos every week! Shows me exactly what I might find right in my back yard here in Vermont! Ant suggestions for a newbie wanting to try this out and what kinda detector I could use? Thanks for all you do!
May God Bless you Brad.
Happy Friday morning.
Always a pleasure to see you Brad… have a great weekend! Your #1 Kentucky fan💞TK
I used to collect bells. When I downsized, I gave them to my grandkids
This is one of your best finding days what a variety of good things. That lock might have been part of a spice box. Spices back then were quite expensive.
The Jesus on a stick looks Catholic. That H.I.S. banner above the figure's head is the clue
Brad, someday you have to show us your bell collection... you must have a bijillion stock piled by now!
Always enjoy your videos. Cool history thanks from. Sc
That Crucifix is large and detailed enough to have been hung around the neck of a priest or a nun. Great find in perfect condition. Look around for a Rosery that it may have been connected to.
Interesting that the Crucifix was near the spoon? I enjoyed teh video, thank you.👍👍😉
