That misrepresents a huge portion of the situation. The much more pressing issue Miyazaki took with the animation was that it was a monster that resembled a man he personally knew who struggled with nonfunctioning limbs. He would probably be as insulted by seeing a crawling Headcrab Zombie Torso as he would the creature that moved using an algorithm.
Not defending AI animation in the slightest, but I hate it when the internet plays telephone to fit their perspective. Like when people bring out Miyazaki’s “anime was a mistake” when he was talking about how anime in the 50s was so much better, or when people invented Miyamoto saying “a delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game will be forever bad”.

The insult to life itself is SQUARELY and ENTIRELY about ai.
That is not how a director gives feedback for a shot - period.

As a former Pixar employee in the 1990's, there was so much hype that "animation will be done faster as computers get faster and technology improves."
    Nope.
What happened was we spent the same amount of time and human labor making a movie, _we just made them better._
Technology was used to simplifiy some steps so time and attention could be spent, instead, on making the movie look better, feel better, and the story more polished and developed.
I'm now looking at the game industry, and what I see is when ordinary people have access to high quality tools, you can have full games made by a couple people with an idea.
You get more games, not less.
    More work, not less.
I think animation will be the same - more people will be able to realize their vision with tools that give them more power to express themselves.

More work but for less money. As supply exceeds demand the value of the work decreases. Video and image content on social media is an example of this. Most artists feel obligated to create what should be thousands of dollars worth of images or video content to post on social media for absolutely nothing, in order to attract an audience who may, hopefully, one day buy something or commission the artist. This is only going to get worse with AI. A dwindling number of lucky artists will still be required to perform the work for studios that teams of artists formerly did.

I think the issue is presented poorly. AI won't replace all the artists, AI will cut some big portion of them out of the industry.
I am 3D character artist and AI won't do my job, but literally half of the reference I receive is AI now, I've seen multiple AI images on the product in the market, I've seen them on marketplaces, I've seen them sold as image pack or books, all of that is someone's job that was taken by AI.
Big issue I see is developing new blood, entry level in the art industry was already crazy without AI, but now it might be even worse.
Senior artist at Pixar or Blizzard is safe, but 17 year old dude that doing commission for 10$ can't compete with AI, so who will be a Senior artist in 20 years?
Also 3D animation and 3D in general is the safest, since it is the most challenging thing for current AI.

@@kreativeforce532 I am yet to see anything remotely close to something usable.
The issue with 3D is the following, there is much less reference for Ai, you may pack download millions of images but doing the same with 3D is impossible, there are very little free 3D models in comparison and they are vastly harder to download. Production models are just impossible to get in big numbers.
Second, 3D has no usable interface, you need very certain things for 3D and Ai is very bad at producing that, you can't just type "give me a sexy elf" and get something usable.
So, I think at best 3d AI will be able to make some basic props, maybe some sculpts, but nothing close to exact game character for example.
Also everything inside PC is math LOL, including images, text and video

    • @jensenraylight8011
      @jensenraylight8011 2 місяці тому +14

here the thing, if all the references you saw was AI images, it's because either you follow AI images or give it an engagement,
enough so that the feeds kept recommending you that.
just ignore it, or else worse, your Art will look like AI Art.
also, AI Artstyle is Converging into one Monoculture, one single Artstyle.
i don't know why this is happenning, but it's.
if you already saw enough AI images, i think you noticed this too.
there are a lot of youtuber out there resort to using AI Images instead of using real footage, or 2d Mograph,
guess what? their Videos got tanked hard, literally they get 90% less Traffic.
why? because people mistaken their video as Tiktok quick cashgrab motivation AI Video.
people can't distinguish one AI video from Another AI videos.
this is Average people we're talking about, and they can distinguish it.
AI is becoming like a Spam, and once people get spammed by AI Art a couple of time, they just ignore anything that resembled AI made.
therefore, that's why Art Direction is very important,
and AI can't or hard to Art Direct,
Prompt alone can't Art Direct anything, and AI is Highly Unreliable & Uncertain.
why would you want to compete with AI and making yourself look like a Spam Art in the process?
Do you think that People are stupid enough to want to watch something made by AI overnight?
Just because someone sell something using AI, doesn't mean they're making any money,
nor it validates that people want to buy stuff made by AI
and i'm a AAA Game Artists myself.

@@jensenraylight8011 Hi, man, ty for stating your opinion.
I mostly agree with that, but has to make a couple of corrections.
When I said "I receive reference" I meant reference that clients send me.
Everything about AI art being poorly received is partially true, but not entirely.
I am really glad that people generally dislike AI. But they moslty dislike in the art context, I rarely see people complaining about AI thumbnails on youtube or add\stock images.
Also not all AI looks like one style, there is quite a bit of AI that looks really good and much harder to distinguish. I talked about it with multiple pro artists and they all say that they pretty often has to actively search for Ai artifacts to confirm their suspicion. So for general public not familiar with art this would be very hard.
And AI is still getting better, I can see the world where general public won't be able to distinguish "Good" AI art in the near future.
Again I don't think that artist will die as a profession, but I think AI will take a lot of art related jobs that don't really require a lot of artistic expression, but require mass production of pretty images and it happens to some extent already.
How much is a good question, that is unpredictable, I think 20-50%, but that just rough numbers that feel correct for me, no one knows for sure.
What are you working on btw, if that is not under NDA?

I'm thinking it'll make people sick of it, overloaded by it that we'll have a people looking for other type of media to absorb. They do this dispute risk to the quality of their business or craft…. Boeing is an example. The presence of AI may reduce the artists needed by the big firms but allow for smaller productions to have more capability but due to consolidation of big media the professional industry may still shrink due to continued mergers and you end up seeing more passion projects that each don’t make as much money on places like UA-cam. Or AI could just increase expectations and work load on the existing artist/ professionals without a change in pay where perhaps there would have been more individuals hired in the company before. the question of whether there are less animators might be hard to answer then.

Lol "hasn't really replaced 2D Animation"? Hmm I beg to differ, well not totally, but it has pretty much replaced it on the big studios.
Same logic applied to the use of Xerox back in the 60s, allot of ink and paint artists were let go, but a very small amount were used still in some studios and projects.
AI won't be replacing animadors yet, but you rest assured it is already replacing content creators, copywriters, designers and book illustration for example.
Then it'll replace conceptual artists, and step by step will replace others as well.
This affects not just artists but other professionals and jobs.
I can't see AI replacing traditional stop motion animation though, but 2D and CGI animation? In 15/20 years that's what is prob gonna happen unless government acts fast and imposes legislation that will limit the uses of AI in the workplace, if not, that's where we are headed unfortunately.
CEOs and stakeholders ONLY care about profit, having robots and AI replacing humans increases widely their margins of profit, and if you think they won't care about making more and more money because they want to protect people and artistic integrity you are absolutely delusional.
That's why we need government to impose limits on a capitalistic driven society. And my faith in government is also not the highest.
AI will absolutely replace humans in allot of their jobs, artists included. I'm an artist myself and I'm very heartbroken to see these things happening, but unless something takes place to prevent this from getting worse, it'll be just a matter of time.

If an AI "artist" files a job application all they're really doing is recommending the production team some software instead of hiring them because you don't need an extra person to use a text prompt.
I do however think AI could be useful in pre-production for rapid brainstorming as an intermediary step between mood boards and concept art made by an artist where the artist might have an idea and could use an AI to generate an image to get an idea of how that might look to save time on making concept art for an idea that gets thrown out at that stage or to find details to add more meat to a more abstract concept.

A good comparison to make is peoples reactions to the first calculators. Most thought that it would change math forever and ruin peoples abilities to do math in their head and on pen and paper. While calculators did change math dramatically, it didnt replace mathematicians, but became a tool to do things faster. This is what I presume will happen with AI.

the biggest thing to realize about ai art is that, it cant make creative decisions. even if the creation of art were to be completely replaced by ai, you would still need an honest to god artist sitting there making sure it's making the best thing it can. ai also isnt good at fine tuning a design, so you'd probably save time and money hiring an active artist to at minimum, take an ai generated piece and refine it into something better. if there's one thing ai is good at, it's heavy lifting. think of it like heavy machinery in construction. it enables workloads not possible with just people, but it's expensive and not good at the precision stuff, plus it still needs human guidance

People like 'oh no its gonna take jobs'. Maybe.. But maybe it wont. With increased productivity and less hands needed on a particular task, the reduced cost of labor in time and manpower will absolutely allow for more projects to run simultaneously with the same amount of people. We only Lose jobs if the production companies decide for whatever reason not to increase productivity despite the massive jump in efficiency. I dont see any companies doing that. Why not make 3 films in the time you could have made one with the same number of people? And the highly skilled artists will be the ones being paid the big bucks to fix and fine tune the ai assisted work for final approval.

  • @ylanvanderwielen6910

I mean it's complicated, when you said 2D wasn't replace by 3D animation, technically that might be true but it did happend because of producers and the continous search of making more money: Disney stopped making 2D animations because the public was more intrigued by the 3D animations therefore, people were less going to the 2D animations but it didn't mean they loved them less, yet Dinsey was loosing money so they stopped making 2D. With AI, producers have a way to make stuff easy and cheap, so if they have at least a consideration for art, creativity and job well-done, then I hope they will use AI as a tool and not as a replacement, but then again, it's a hope.

  • @rogeras5966

Yeah true, but the thing about AI is that is makes all of it automatically, atleast with CGI and Mocap it’s still entirely done by humans, just using different tools from 2D animation, but with AI it makes all by himself without human input, and that’s why it’s actually different and scarier than the other revolutionary tools.

  • @Princess_of_cute

I feel as if there is a fair chance, that AI won't replace artists. It's cheaper, sure, especially as soon as you have some very good programs to make your "art" with, but I feel as if it's obvious, that the authenticity will be missed. For the machine, it's easy to get a prompt and do what they're told, but it's way more impressive if real human beings do it. Many things have become easier, machines have overtaken a lot of things and with that comes quite a lot of things that are artsy but mass production. For example, dinnerware. You get some gorgeous plates and cups at some places, and they are produced in masses, which the machine helped with. Still, we don't think, wow, how cool it is, that the machine made this, we just think "oh, pretty plate". It's different, too, when we see something handmade, where you can see the effort and uniqueness of it. I also would pay more for something handmade, than for something that is made by machine. Some might say "well then they will just pretend as if it's made by hand and not by ai" but people will become suspicious, and it will lead to ways people will make sure people know it really is handmade.
I also like to add, that there will be use of AI in the future and for a while, people will try to use AI as a way of replacing employees, but people will get tired of it. The good thing about AI however, is that people with blockades or a need of ideas get to have some help with that. You want to have a concept of how something should look, like, if you write a book and want it visualized, then you can do that. I think, as long as it's only used as an aid, it's fine. Idk though

There’s a fundamental difference between the past and AI now you still need humans other than the guy in the motion capture suit. 2D animation is still a thing yes but it’s used less and less now but even 3D you still need people. AI isn’t good enough as humans YET but IT WILL GET THERE SOONER THAN YOU THINK! I mean we all remember Sora coming out right? And even though the final product isn’t as good as humans what Sora can do in hours or even minutes takes humans many of them working days even weeks to do! AI is already faster and cheaper than humans ten fold! It’s RAPIDLY getting better in quality! So eventually in a decade or two AI will become just as good as humans the key difference between the other technologies and AI is AI doesn’t require humans to work the AI doesn’t need animators motion capture and 3D animation dose!

The main difference between AI and People who use ai art are usually writers, not visual artists who usually have very little knowledge of making art look striking, thus, each frame will be at worst, inconsistent and at best, tread the uncanny valley. I say this because actual artists are looking to expand their own skills as artists and would never resort to using ai as a shortcut. They may use it for comparison or for fun, but never authentically abd without authenticity from professional artists, ai is doomed.

I could see AI perhaps replacing some concept artists. I certainly wouldn't worry about AI replacing animators or modelers any time soon. When AI tries to make an actual scene, it invariably looks like some weird, inconsistent fever dream. Having said that, I do think that some day, AI will be able to create detailed 3d models that could then be rigged and animated. Even still, I think it's always going to be more difficult to explain an idea to an AI and have it produce desired, consistent results, than a human being.

Him and others trying to calm people down still underestimate what is coming. AI today and AI 2 to 5 years from now will be wildly different beasts. Try to consider the capabilities of AI as an exponential growth curve. We are now most likely near a point at which the curve has barely left the X axis and the technological jumps of the last year have already been dazzling to say the least. It won't be long until many people in this and other industries won't be able to get a Job anymore. CEOs included by the way
