@@post6597 It's basically pointless. You get asked some morality questions at the beginning for initial points and that will determine which Fiend (demon companion) you get first; other than that, it basically means nothing.

If I hadn't planned to review the game and still lived in Japan where I could have easily just sold it, I would have quit early on. But I don't like providing a review of a game I haven't beat.
Just played the demo for this. I thought it was okay but question if it was worth 60 or not. I was leaning towards not. I wish this was 30 or 40 bucks.
Great vid Rozalin. I personally disagree with your review, but appreciate your opinion and outlook on it. My thoughts: if you like a Caligula effect X persona-ish concept X office MMO grind type of experience (like the .hack// game series), it is a treat. But I do fully agree with you, the game isn't for everyone. I feel it is for a specific, niché group (which luckily I fall into). If you don't mind bad 3D models, grinding, item farming, and repetition, but like the detail on the dialog design, the voice acting, story and overall lore of the game; it is such a blast. The demo should be able to determine wether or not the player will like the game, without forking out cash. Especially with it being the whole first chapter.
I'm not sure I agree that the demo can help determine if someone will like the game. For example, I enjoyed the demo but hated the full game. The issues I had with the characters (poorly written, preachy, whiney, self-loathing, etc.) and the need to do excessive grinding can't be seen from the demo.
just platinumed it, the grind is what really threw my opinion out the window. i liked the story and the music is what kept it above a 6 for me, the music was perfect.
Out of all the games like this that FuRyu has made, I feel like they were the closest to getting it right with Lost Dimension(although the combat looked,,,not great, the characters were compelling although a little basic, decent strategy, not too grindy, good story and unique concept with the twists making sense and being compelling, the ony issue being that the traitor system could accidentally force you into a max of 3 playthroughs to reach the true ending).
Caligula Effect 2 is a pretty awesome game to be honest, it does seem like a "poor mans" Persona, but it's a nice story, got alright systems and a really fun combat system. (Another FuRyu game)
Thank you for this. The demo didn't do much for me and many of your criticisms were fears I had after completing the demo. I can see playing this at some point but definitely not at new game prices.
Sometimes I have this gut feeling a game I'm interested in is awful, it's especially true when a company uses the line "devs from X created this game". Thanks for the review and the 80 hours you sacrificed.
It's especially telling when they don't specify which dev's from X. I love me some SMT, but I'm not gonna play your game just cause the UI guy from SMT4 worked on it. Maybe the UI guy from Persona 5...
Thanks for the Video, you safed me a lot of bucks. I have no problem with a slow paced combat but 30-60 minutes per fight is way to long. And using the majority of time grinding is a no go for me. So yes, thank you very much :)
avg battle is 20mins long? I could forgive other flaws but there's nothing there that could convince me to slog through grind. I put 130hrs into Persona 3 FES without noticing. This grind would feel very, very noticeable...
I'll be honest, I'm currently looking for a trainer for monark because I can't take wasting hours upon hours grinding spirit. The game is very very repetitive, the enemies are ALWAYS the same, wouldn't be a bad thing if each battle felt fresh but it doesn't.
For the characters critique, is it possible the writers wrote them like that as a way to show how deep the mist is really affecting everyone? Obviously I'd like to avoid spoilers on anything, but could it be that you shouldn't like them or find them interesting as they are just as insane as everyone else? Nothing more than another tool for you to use as they've basically broken?
For side characters, it depends on the character; for your main characters (party members), the mist is absolutely not the reason they act the way they do. They have story reasons for it that all start well before the beginning of the game.
Really intended to support the creators here just for their past works, but it's clearly a case of them running out of money to complete their vision. I'll wait for a few more impressions and reviews on release, but it seems like it might be a pass.
thanks for the honesty I was already thinking of passing on this now i know for sure I'm going to pass so I'm hopping off the fence on the opposite side
Appreciate the review but still gonna give it a shot, can't be any worse than revisiting Persona 1 considering how badly that's aged. Always worth seeing the negatives of a title before getting on the hype train and this is a solid well explained opinion.
I'm sold on this game after playing the demo. I do take issue with everyone feeling the need to say former SMT developers worked on it though. Who are those developers within LancArse, exactly? What were their roles when working on SMT, or their significance to those projects? If anything, this game is more of a spiritual successor to LancArse's other strategy RPG, Lost Dimension.
The music composer of SMT 1, 2, If, Devil Summoner, Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers. The writers of Megami Tensei 1, 2, Shin Megami Tensei 1, 2, and If, and Devil Summoner 1. And the writer who wrote the novel which kicked off the series: Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei. Not exactly Kazuma Kaneko or Cozy Okada but very important staffers in their day.
Review is spot on man. I'd like to think that the battle system is similar to Fire Emblem's. Your review makes me think that Monark is a tedious game. Most JRPGs suffer from tediousness and I think what could have made this game at least fun and keeps you motivated throughout your playthrough is if they could have made the grinding fun. Based on my experience, the Fire Emblem and Persona series are good examples of JRPGs that makes grinding fun.
you said the performance was bad, which platform did you play on? is it the same on all other platforms. I am thinking on getting it on the PS5 also you wrote on the title Monark is not SMT, how would you say it compares to SMT If, the game it is inspired on.
I played on Switch, though I've heard of crashes on PS4 as well. It seems to run fine on PS5 but then again most JP players picked it up on Switch or PS4 so there isn't much data. As for PC, no one can comment atm since that is a Western-only release. As for how it compares to SMT, it doesn't. The risk/reward aspect of the battle system is about the only SMT thing about this game.
thanks a lot for this, I was considering putting this on my wishlist for my birthday next month, but will have to think of other strategy RPGs... you wouldn't happen to know of anything resembling Valkyria Chronicles 4 for the PS4? or maybe even some Fire Emblem-ish stuff....
Okay, I have to admit I just about lost my mind when you said the game specifically tells you to check online to figure out how to get the rare drops for the True Ending. Like, if that's actually real and the game specifically gives a tutorial just for that, I might literally go insane with laughter, because that's just one of the craziest sounding things ever, LMFAO Your review has me scared, as someone who really enjoyed the demo, but struggled to get even past the first dungeon of the first Caligula (from this same dev team, I believe), because I was getting bored, so hopefully this one doesn't go as poorly as you make it seem. But man, if that thing about the True ending tutorial is real, the devs are flat out memeing us all, LMFAO
Yeah, the tutorial that tells you how to go about unlocking the game's True Ending recommends going online to get the info you need since the drops that provide in-game are so rare. And yeah, this is from the same developer as Caligula. I'm sure there will be those who do end up enjoying this game, but the characters and forced grinding really tanked my opinion of Monark.
@@RozalinGaming I do like the characters a lot, based on the demo, so that isn't a concern. It's definitely sounding like the story and OST will need to carry me through the game, though (and to be fair, the OST is absolutely banging, from what I've heard of it.) Also, is the part about re-playing the same chapter four times over something that's optional for the True Ending, or are you actually forced to do it just to finish the game? Because forced repetition is one of my absolute least favorite things a game can do, and just feels like a cheap way to artificially lengthen a game, imo.
@@DippoMagoo Unfortunately the demo isn't a good representation of the characters outside of the first boss character who basically has no relevance after Ch.1. Also, a big issue I had with the character's wasn't actually my early impressions with them, but how I came to view them after hours of hearing them whine and indulge in self-loathing rhetoric. I'm sure there will be those who still like them, but for me, it felt like they were doing everything in their power to make me not like them. And as for the chapter you need to replay 4 times, it is required to simply progress the main story.
I liked the Caligula series enough despite the haters, so I bought Monark at 20% off. Initially I was quite impressed by the quirky resonance system and invested many hours to try and master it, but nearly 40 hours into the game after clearing the first Ideal of Greed battle, I am exhausted and am seriously considering putting it down, instead of switching to casual mode. Unlike Caligula which had a friendly mode for those looking to just enjoy the story and the music, Monark's casual mode probably? doesn't guarantee that casual mode is casual anyway (that is, people looking to just enjoy the story won't have to grind kind of casual), because of the slow rate of spirit acquisition and the sheer amount of skills needed to be unlocked to allow decent survivability. I found this game to be very punitive, in the sense that a single mis-step can cost you a unit, or a whole turn, or the whole map which took like half an hour to slog through. Sometimes I forgot that a particular unit is buffed AND disabled and when I Area Resonate suddenly the ENTIRE PARTY is disabled and that's it, you're gone, because after the Ideal of Lust chapters the enemies just hit so much harder. It is very frustrating to have to think through every step even when I was just grinding for spirit points, which I have to do FAR TOO MUCH. Since Casual Mode will just reduce damage taken by 30% while lowering item drop rate (which is important to upgrade your Fiend units) I don't think playing casual mode would save anyone from the slog-fest grinding in very uninspiring dungeons, with a boring soundtrack, and repetitive actions. I dunno, I mean MUCH of what I have to do is just grinding in ugly looking environments. I have to agree that Monark is a miss. I am very forgiving on FuRyu because I don't pick up their games for amazing graphics (the students and staff NPCs are so lazy seriously) or sound or immersive worlds, they typically offer a different experience, but so far the combat system is far too punitive, the mandatory grinding tedious and everything about the assets is stressful, lazy, repetitive. There were a number of things I liked about this game but there are many more that I did not like. I did my run blind and got Wrath as my first unit, then Pride, then Gluttony. I keep hearing good things about Lust but I don't know how much more I need to play to even get Lust... I am playing a DPS party with MC, Shinya, Wrath, Pride and Gluttony. It is a very fragile party, each member can only survive 1 - 2 hits, which makes combat even more stressful... Some of the comments here mention that the demo lets you play until the end of the first Ideal of Pride. Oh boy subsequent ideals and dungeons are NOTHING like the Ideal of Pride.
I played the demo as well and enjoyed it; unfortunately the demo doesn't tell the full picture since it's basically just the prologue. I also played the Switch version, which, in addition to crashes, also experiences slow downs and choppy framerate during cutscenes.
@@azoth7756 You're right, I got mistaken since it was published by Atlus in NA. My bad. Either way, the gameplay does remind me a lot of Lost Dimension.
@@chiezcayk4890 Yeah this game was from the same developers(Lancarse, FuRyu) that did Lost Dimension. However based on this video and what I've seen in the demo, I can honestly say that Lost Dimension is a much better game.
The comparison to SMT mainly stems from the developers marketing, in that they've openly stated former SMT devs being on the team as a marketing point for the game. That, and there are news outlets out there who have run with that claiming this game is similar to SMT etc.
You're spending 20-30 min on battles are you referring to the throne or boss ones? Also interesting about your crashes. I've yet to have that issue. I definitely agree with some of your issues, but quite extreme on you piss on the ashes deal. Lol.
Late game bosses, especially true end route, take upwards of an hour. The rest of the game I'd say it was about 20-30 per battle after about the mid-point; largely due to how long it takes to just traverse some of the maps. And yeah, the piss on the ashes is a bit extreme, but I don't think I've played a game in a long time in which I disliked the characters this much; especially Shinya.
@@RozalinGaming lol. I thought Kokoro wasn't too bad. Shinya sucks though. So glad that most of the act 2 routes have you ********** him while he's ********** So you can see him ******* like a ***********. :-p Anyway, sorry you didn't enjoy it. I found myself, enjoying a good amount of it. It kinda reminded me of like avatar tuner from the 80s 90s. Makes sense as the smt devs they speak of are from that old guard.
@@optimize0 I actually liked Kokoro until the second half of the game; before that, I was like, "YES she's different than the rest!" Then you find out she was actually just putting up a front which hurt my impression of her. I think if the mist sections were more involved and grinding wasn't such a necessity to keep up, I'd have enjoyed my time more.
That's disappointing. I wasn't expecting a masterpiece by any means though. My copy has already been paid for, so I'll still go ahead and give it a shot. Edit: I got a refund. Yay! I normally wouldn't take one review as gospel, but he mentioned so many of my hard nos that I felt like I wouldn't get along with this game.
Was it from GlassReflection? Lol He sort of uses that rating I think. Also, great video and so sad how this game has not met any good expectations >.< I feel dumb with the collector's edition lol
From the demo, it felt as if the game was really rushing through things and not wanting to set anything up properly. Kind of like banking on players being cool with just a cool concept, even if it isn't fleshed out.
Any tips on how to learn to read Japanese well enough to be able to play something like this? :) :/ There have been other Japanese games in the past that I've wanted to check out but haven't because I don't know Japanese. I'd like to be able to actually enjoy the story as opposed to just understanding menu options. For example, I've heard of something called Kanji. Is that what I should focus on?
Kanji is one of the components of Japanese, but you won't be able to have a conversation in Japanese with just kanji since its only one of the variables needed to actually read proper Japanese sentences. Learn and master Hiragana first, then Katakana and learn Kanji slow and steadily since kanji isn't your traditional "alphabet". Think of kanji as picture cards that hold certain meanings that you can understand once you glance at them once you study and understand the meaning of each one.
@@am.m.6295 I used to agree with learning Hiragana first, but after actually learning the language I would now have to disagree. The three alphabets are so ingrained in the Japanese language that outside of kids media you can't get away from any of it, and they are all equally important. For reference on how Japanese is taught to those who don't know it, at the Japanese language school I attended in Japan they taught Hiragana and Katakana at the same time, and then gave us 20 Kanji per week to learn.
@@RozalinGaming That's another way to look at it, but I personally found it more easier to learn Hiragana → Katakana → Kanji because the base for most kanji words use Hiragana for the Furigana readings which would allow the beginners to at least be able to read kanji if there is furigana included (I guess you can argue that some places use Katakana as the base for their furigana as well, though) For reference as well, I used to attend a Japanese high school in Kansai, went to language school and proceeded to a local Japanese university for my bachelors so I'm only speaking from my experience.
@@am.m.6295 Thank you for the advice and info. I appreciate it. Regarding the histories of you both. That's interesting. I've always been curious about learning more about language but never know where to start.
I also played the demo and enjoyed it; it was a contributing factor for purchasing Monark. Unfortunately, the demo doesn't provide an accurate representation of the game's core issues. Because the demo is just the game's prologue, all pacing issues and character issues are just not present.
Good to know with atelier Sophie 2 and elden ring coming on the same day and 3 days after monark I will pass on monark might try it one day just to form my own opinion
I'm not a fan of MCs being killed and the game is over. Revival items could be used by other characters if they don't die before they revive the MC. I'm replaying Tales of Phantasia and it allows you to control another character to get away from the enemy and use Items to bring the MC back into the fray.
@@RozalinGaming Funny thing is I found a video called “Monark the New JRPG that could beat Persona 5” if the people making it weren’t connected to smt/persona I’d assume this was a weird ripoff of Persona 4, 5, and something else.
@@Zach174. Monark is no where near the quality of a Persona title, lol. We were actually joking during my streams of Monark though about it being a "sequel" to P4 since instead of going into TV world you're kind of going into the "cellphone world".
@@RozalinGaming Also the bosses being the sins but instead of mostly following the order of the sins they just threw pride at the beginning like “See it’s not the same, you fight pride first.” Also the constant use of “The other world” and the fact you have to be next to the rabbit to make calls (which is a separate problem). Then the phone numbers that are stupid; what encounter would you assume 000-000-000 would get you, lv94 obviously, I tried the simplest numbers I could think of and all were 90+.
@@Zach174. Most numbers that aren't specifically told to the player via in-game books/notes/story or from the devs themselves on Twitter are going to be 90+ areas. The word I got sick of hearing was 理不尽. Like damn, how many times can script repeat the word 'unfair' lol?
After watching this video, I've come to the conclusion that Monark is essentially Lost Dimension (A great Strategy RPG, also made by FuRyu), but with a hub world, less interesting characters, and JRPG pacing. Sounds rough, but I'll still give it a try.
Well damn you saved me 60 dollars I'll probably use that towards pokemon legends arceus but yeah this game and relayer are both games I was looking forward to I actually pre ordered relayer it looks promising from what we seen
Hmm, that's pretty unfortunate I guess because from how it looks I'm almost thinking I wouldn't share that negative opinion. But I think I can see signs of what he's talking about so I'll believe it. Because lately I'm struggling a bit with turn based games as i've thought about how they're obviously balanced with people beating them in mind, often very lenient too, but lacking enough variables to make it feel like success isn't basically guaranteed. In that aspect a action RPG have virtually limitless variables in player skill and ways to win or lose so it feels as if your input matters and can be balanced more freely than if you have to consider that the objective has to be possible by following a fairly limited amount of available options and letting the enemy's _attacks hit during their turn and such..._ *...Well I'm getting too long winded here so I'll just jump to the point I wanted to make,* this game seemed to have thought of adding various rules and systems to potentially make the winning order of actions much less predictable and more varied from player to player so it feels less predetermined and that your choices make a difference and that they can balance a fight to be very challenging if the player have to consider doing atleast a few things optimally so it's not impossible but harder to find a winning combination. So yeah it's kinds sad that they were unto a interesting battle system but that the game overall didn't turn out well so that potential went to waste.
It's a shame this game turned out to be disappointing. I was hyped when the game was first announced. The concept sounded great and the 2D art were spectacular. Fast forward to the demo and I'm disappointed with the 3D models and gameplay.
Ho Rozalin! Can you share a little bit more about the true ending? Did the game tells you how to get it? And it's the normal ending satisfying? Or you're basically forced to farm to see it?
The game gives you a hint of how to obtain it. If you plan to see it without using online resources, it will probably take multiple hundreds of hours of farming to see; otherwise it's only a few hours to see it.
I'll probably get it, but only when it's been discounted. Although, while I understand your negatives, I do see some potential that could be achieved if they were to have a sequel. Perhaps if it performs well enough, they can tweak the gameplay, so it doesn't take an eternity for battles to play out, give us actual dungeons to explore instead of just crystal hunting, and form a better, more entertaining story rather than what I'm guessing is a pretty try-hard edgy storyline. But until then I think I'll grab a better JRPG like Tokyo Xanadu Ex or maybe the Caligula Effect. I do appreciate your honesty. I always find criticism a lot more valuable than blind optimism, as it lets the devs improve on what doesn't work and gives them an outline on where to start.
Maaaan I agree about the soundtrack Soo much! It's boring compared to SMT and Persona 5. I need the battle music to have some bangers in it. Xenoblade Chronicles, Persona,Ruined King,FF7remake,Tales of Arise has some great music. Thank you for your review! It was well done and informative

hearing your explanation it sounds like a fun game but looking at the gameplay clips you showed, the stage look very small and the pacing seems either too slow or just very awkward. the mad/awake system is a unique but "madness gauge" sounds veeeeery edgy lol
Is it just me, or doesn't the UI design draw a lot from Nier: Automata? I could get into the SRPG gameplay, but the rest just... It's like it's trying to be a dumbed down Persona 3+5, and I'm not interested in that at this time. I also have so many other games to play, and some that I haven't even opened (!), so I'll be taking a pass on this one.
i know people say not to judge games/movies etc by first teasers, but all the problems were visible from the start. i feel like people checked the trailers out of initial interest for smt and quickly understood that the game was mediocre at best
I just learned about this game today and it reminds me of Caligula Effect, except I don't think I want to spend more on grinding than making progress in the story. And grinding to max level? No thanks. I'm always ready for more turn-based rpg, but this game doesn't appeal to me.
Thanks for review, i love games with grinding, but when grinding is repetitive like in here, its becomes boring too fast, probobly dont buy this game, thanks for saving my money, better buy rune factory 5 than this
"The World is unfair , everyone and everything in it has something against me ... " ... that sounds annoying ... but dosnt it make sense though ? in a game about madness i mean ... i expect people that go mad to pull a knife on me ... so even if its annoying ... it kinda sounds reasonable for the story purpose that the stuff is slightly exaggerated with that theme in mind anyways .. the game still sounds horrible , thanks for the review .. this is a skip from my side.
It does and it doesn't make sense. For side some side characters it absolutely makes sense; for your party members, it also does, just not immediately. The problem is that they start acting like that early on (save for one of them) when you don't know them well, so it just comes off as annoying.
i see , thats unfortunate ... but in any case this year is full of good games , so its not so bad that this game isnt great. Soul Hackers 2 and Xenoblade 3 are my top "looking forward to play" titles

Thx rozalin, i whas thinking in put Monark on my "watch list", but now i can save some money.
1st time I saw your channel and reviews. I apmreciate your honesty. I suscribed
I'll be honest, I'm currently looking for a trainer for monark because I can't take wasting hours upon hours grinding spirit.
The game is very very repetitive, the enemies are ALWAYS the same, wouldn't be a bad thing if each battle felt fresh but it doesn't.
Sad to see the result of this game it had a lot of interesting things going on I especially liked the concept of ego.
Wow ... this game really caught my eye from it's great 2D character art and clean UI look. Cross this one off the list I guess.
yeah it sucks
very good review so honest and thi s my sub button
Just be weary after the demo. I played and enjoyed the demo as well, but sadly it wasn't indicative of what the game ended up being.
Thanks for this review.
Thanks for the review, I was worried from the start when I saw the first gameplay trailers.
This game is very tedious. I play a lot of JRPGs so I can generally tolerate their sometimes tedious nature, but it was too much for me in Monark.
you said the performance was bad, which platform did you play on? is it the same on all other platforms.
Sad, I have been looking forwards to this for a while. Even in the demo I've had to grind a little though, so I was getting worried.
I felt an increasing agony watching that battle system gameplay
thanks a lot for this, I was considering putting this on my wishlist for my birthday next month, but will have to think of other strategy RPGs...
you wouldn't happen to know of anything resembling Valkyria Chronicles 4 for the PS4? or maybe even some Fire Emblem-ish stuff....
FE: Three Houses, Shin Megami Tensei 5, Kowloon High School Chronicle
They're not on the switch, but the Etrian Odyssey games are good!!
@@serenakawauso well, I don't have a Switch (will only get one once it becomes affordable to me), but will check out the Etrian Odyssey games...
Okay, I have to admit I just about lost my mind when you said the game specifically tells you to check online to figure out how to get the rare drops for the True Ending. Like, if that's actually real and the game specifically gives a tutorial just for that, I might literally go insane with laughter, because that's just one of the craziest sounding things ever, LMFAO
Your review has me scared, as someone who really enjoyed the demo, but struggled to get even past the first dungeon of the first Caligula (from this same dev team, I believe), because I was getting bored, so hopefully this one doesn't go as poorly as you make it seem.
It's definitely sounding like the story and OST will need to carry me through the game, though (and to be fair, the OST is absolutely banging, from what I've heard of it.)
Also, is the part about re-playing the same chapter four times over something that's optional for the True Ending, or are you actually forced to do it just to finish the game?
Man I wished I knew about all of the needed grinding before getting this.
Honestly, I played the demo and enjoyed it. Also had no performance issues, and that was on the Switch.
I played the demo as well and enjoyed it; unfortunately the demo doesn't tell the full picture since it's basically just the prologue. I also played the Switch version, which, in addition to crashes, also experiences slow downs and choppy framerate during cutscenes.
@@RozalinGaming Ah, that's annoying. I luckily didn't have any issues, but I will see how it plays when I get the full version.
sadly i pre-order the collectors edition from NIS AMErica and I cant cancel it :( but thanks for your honesty now I know what I will be looking for.
This game's gameplay seems pretty similar to Lost Dimension, which is pretty cool.
Lost Dimension isn't an Atlus game.
@@azoth7756 I would have to agree. Lost Dimension was a blast to play despite some of its minor flaws.
The comparison to SMT mainly stems from the developers marketing, in that they've openly stated former SMT devs being on the team as a marketing point for the game. That, and there are news outlets out there who have run with that claiming this game is similar to SMT etc.
This is more like Trails of cold steel and neptunia rather than smt. Especially with how the battle system work
I agree, but the developer's themselves have used the fact that former SMT devs worked on the game which is why I mentioned SMT.
Thanks for your honest review. I've been looking at reviews thinking if I should get the game or not. I might just wait for a sale.
Anyway, sorry you didn't enjoy it.
Great review
That's disappointing. I wasn't expecting a masterpiece by any means though. My copy has already been paid for, so I'll still go ahead and give it a shot.
Edit: I got a refund. Yay! I normally wouldn't take one review as gospel, but he mentioned so many of my hard nos that I felt like I wouldn't get along with this game.
Whaaaaat, Monark is already out?
Wow this game really reminds me of Lost Dimension. 😅
It does. same battle system. I think it's also Lancarste studio.
I got confused for a second I thought they were out already
Was it from GlassReflection? Lol He sort of uses that rating I think. Also, great video and so sad how this game has not met any good expectations >.< I feel dumb with the collector's edition lol
Email them if you ordered through NIS America! Mine hadn't shipped so they processed a refund. :)
Anime Pulse was the anime podcast I was referring to.
@@RozalinGaming I remember that podcast. It was my first anime podcast I'd listen to.
@@RozalinGaming That's another way to look at it, but I personally found it more easier to learn Hiragana → Katakana → Kanji because the base for most kanji words use Hiragana for the Furigana readings which would allow the beginners to at least be able to read kanji if there is furigana included (I guess you can argue that some places use Katakana as the base for their furigana as well, though)
For reference as well, I used to attend a Japanese high school in Kansai, went to language school and proceeded to a local Japanese university for my bachelors so I'm only speaking from my experience.
@@am.m.6295 Yeah I did a similar process: studied at language school and did my 4 year degree at a University in Tokyo.
@@am.m.6295 Thank you for the advice and info. I appreciate it.
Regarding the histories of you both. That's interesting. I've always been curious about learning more about language but never know where to start.
Damn I felt like a fool here for already pre-ordering it after playing the demo. Great video though
I think a demon controller fire emblem is a solid idea, though the grinding certainly puts me off from it myself
Psssst: check out Devil Survivor and Devil Survivor 2. 😉
I played the demo and loved it, so I kind of disagree with your opinions, I appreciate the showcase tho
I also played the demo and enjoyed it; it was a contributing factor for purchasing Monark. Unfortunately, the demo doesn't provide an accurate representation of the game's core issues. Because the demo is just the game's prologue, all pacing issues and character issues are just not present.
I recently played the demo and holy shit I was so confused as too what was going on
The minimalistic UI design looks very much inspired form, NieR: Automata.
Good to know with atelier Sophie 2 and elden ring coming on the same day and 3 days after monark I will pass on monark might try it one day just to form my own opinion
Hey in the game if you die is it really game over? Or is that optional.
If the MC dies it's a game over.
congrats on making it through the full game. I couldn't even finish the demo.
I'm not a fan of MCs being killed and the game is over. Revival items could be used by other characters if they don't die before they revive the MC. I'm replaying Tales of Phantasia and it allows you to control another character to get away from the enemy and use Items to bring the MC back into the fray.
It's mainly just that since the mc in persona and smt is always overpowered and your best teammate the games would largely be a cakewalk
Nice review ✌🏻
I’ll be skipping this one tbh. Didn’t have a good first impression and looks like neither the story nor the characters compensate it.
Most of my enjoyment was from naming my character Stupid Face because they’d say stuff like “You don’t remember me, Stupid?”
I should have done that, lol!
I have been sore torn with Monark to get it or not didn’t enjoy the demo but this review has made up my mind looks so tedious thanks for the help
After watching this video, I've come to the conclusion that Monark is essentially Lost Dimension (A great Strategy RPG, also made by FuRyu), but with a hub world, less interesting characters, and JRPG pacing. Sounds rough, but I'll still give it a try.
8:35 do you speak Japanese?
Then wtf do you know about the wuality of the voices?
I am fluent in Japanese, lived in Japan for half my life, and work as a translator/localizer professionally.
Oof. A harsh result, indeed.
Eh….I will buy this game once it’s on a sale of 50% off or more. It doesn’t look that awful, tbh.
In that aspect a action RPG have virtually limitless variables in player skill and ways to win or lose so it feels as if your input matters and can be balanced more freely than if you have to consider that the objective has to be possible by following a fairly limited amount of available options and letting the enemy's _attacks hit during their turn and such..._
*...Well I'm getting too long winded here so I'll just jump to the point I wanted to make,* this game seemed to have thought of adding various rules and systems to potentially make the winning order of actions much less predictable and more varied from player to player so it feels less predetermined and that your choices make a difference and that they can balance a fight to be very challenging if the player have to consider doing atleast a few things optimally so it's not impossible but harder to find a winning combination.
So yeah it's kinds sad that they were unto a interesting battle system but that the game overall didn't turn out well so that potential went to waste.
I enjoyed the demo but in my opinion its not worth $60. Monark is a $35 game AT BEST.
A slow progress for NIS but still progress nonetheless
Glad I'm not alone. I thought this was a big waste of money, and I only spent maybe an hour in it.
It looks nice, but why are the characters dressed like clowns during battles?
This is pretty much the exact same battle system as Lost Dimension. I’m not crazy right? It’s literally almost the same.
It was well done and informative
ok the moment u said battles takes from 30 minutes to 1 hour later on was all i needed to know. hard pass on this game. i am good lol. whole reason i stopped playing mh rise is cuz 1 hunt on normal story quests/ post game where theres more stars was the whole reason i stopped. it was boring and a chore. glad to know this good review
I hope they do well with this tho cause they had a great idea just poor execution
hearing your explanation it sounds like a fun game but looking at the gameplay clips you showed, the stage look very small and the pacing seems either too slow or just very awkward. the mad/awake system is a unique but "madness gauge" sounds veeeeery edgy lol
Reminds me a bit of trails of cold steel
The being able to move your party members around and position them is similar, but the battle system is actually much more similar to a tactical JRPG.
i know people say not to judge games/movies etc by first teasers, but all the problems were visible from the start. i feel like people checked the trailers out of initial interest for smt and quickly understood that the game was mediocre at best
Well this is disappointing. I'm still picking it up because it reminds me so much of Caligula Effect which I had a love/hate affection for.
Thanks for saving us the money.
30 to 60 min battles.. that just put the nail in the coffin on not buying this
You look uncannily like LGR.
Wow it's really just Caligula 3 huh...? that's not a good thing lol
I WAS ROOTING FOR FURYU, WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR FURYU, HOW DARE YOU
I just learned about this game today and it reminds me of Caligula Effect, except I don't think I want to spend more on grinding than making progress in the story. And grinding to max level? No thanks. I'm always ready for more turn-based rpg, but this game doesn't appeal to me.
I think the forms are abit over designed ngl
this looks like a terrible game that I have to play for my self to truly appreciate it's shittyness
@dmil ok
Thanks for review, i love games with grinding, but when grinding is repetitive like in here, its becomes boring too fast, probobly dont buy this game, thanks for saving my money, better buy rune factory 5 than this
"The World is unfair , everyone and everything in it has something against me ... " ...
that sounds annoying ... but dosnt it make sense though ? in a game about madness i mean ...
i expect people that go mad to pull a knife on me ...
so even if its annoying ... it kinda sounds reasonable for the story purpose that the stuff is slightly exaggerated with that theme in mind
anyways .. the game still sounds horrible , thanks for the review .. this is a skip from my side.
Soul Hackers 2 and Xenoblade 3 are my top "looking forward to play" titles
daaamn
