What depresses me is that Tolkien’s lore *already* includes epic women who took on terrifying enemies, but they won’t tell those stories. They instead take other stories and change them to feature women who were never warriors. The ancient humans before Rohan included Haleth, who led her people through a siege and impressed a son of Feanor. Then there was Emeldir, who armed the women and children when the men were all killed, and led them all like an army through a haunted forest and kept them alive. These women *were* great warriors. But instead filmmakers try to undercut *Helm* who was supposed to be an absolute legend and symbol of Rohan’s strength. Why? And don’t get me started on how epic Luthien was, able to throw down Sauron’s tower and even incapacitate Morgoth. Edit: Corrected a lore detail
They refuse to acknowledge that others have already made good female characters, like they need to be seen as the ones who invented good female characters. Actually, I would argue they wish to reinvent the idea of what a good female character is through the lie that they never existed before. Their version instead being a 'strong female protagonist', in which they are either Mary Sues or Girlbosses, always right and better than men at everything.
It’s twofold - Helm Hammerhand is mentioned in the films, which means more people know who he is and made the story more popular than Haleth, Luthien, etc. The people writing this have no clue about Tolkien, so they don’t care. They just want to hamfist their nonsense in whenever they can and then take shots at Tolkien by implying he deliberately chose not to write about them. Haleth and Caranthir would be a sick story. (It’s not really a Rohan story, it’s a Edain story, which would be linked more with Numenor and the Dunedain but still a dope story).
Luthien was definitely badass. She winged Beren the whole journey and although Beren was brave in pursuing his love he was punching opponents way above his weight which meant Luthien had to save him. Neither party was humiliated in the process.
One of the biggest failings of the "modern female action star" is modern writers fail to understand that a woman being able to physically overpower a man makes her unrelatable to women. Black Widow in MCU Phase1 never punched a man in the face or won an arm wrestling contest, she used her legs and her wit (that introduction scene where she floors Happy is brilliant), which emphasizes how a women can still be valuable and hold power her own unique way, and she looks hot at the same time.

The girl boss in the movie was pretty tame in modern-day standards. Yes, the beginning was typical story beat. "I don't wanna marry" but everything after that was okay. The story could've been written better but that's expected at this point. Overly the movie was fine.
I feel very differently. The massive difference between the fore and background animation was very jarring to me and gave the impression of these animated characters traversing a green screen with tech from 40 years ago.
The Hans Gruber Bill Clay moment isn't that complicated... you guys are overthinking the scene. The camera pan is simply showing how Hans came up with the name. No underlying subterfuge. No implied twist. No subtle characterization. Just: we know his name, he gives a false name, John seems to accept it, we see where he got the name. That's it. That is all.
I was always under the impression that it was John Mclane checking the list on the wall to see if the name he gave was actually an employee’s name. That just makes the most sense to me.

Any opinion on the jerky animation of Rohirrim (or of what you've seen) from a technical standpoint? To me it looks like they're lacking 'in between' frames, or maybe just poorly plotting each movement's trajectory so the result looks like the velocity changes unevenly.
@@barnbwt I haven't watched it yet. But I do know that a good amount of anime, which this is obviously based off, tries to save budget on tween frames, and just movement in general. I looked up a scene and I found out that I hate the animation, it's so strange it's hard to pin down. Not to mention the characters look like cardboard cutouts in the 3D environments. It's in general really stiff and clunky. I'm not sure if the animation studio was Japanese, it it looks like an even cheaper imitation that tries to hard to seem authentic. Most animation uses "timing charts", which are really basic in animation. I sort of liked Alien Romulus. 🧐 Children of Men had exceptional camera work, direction, and editing. The long running shot starting when they try to get to the rowboat took a LOT of co-ordination. The tank firing, the rocket launcher. Well done!!! I liked the third and fourth Terminator movies, too. The longer version of the third Alien movie has a much better "birthing" scene.
I always thought villains like Doc Oc, Kingpin, and Green Goblin were way bigger than Venom in the Spiderverse. Venom just seemed like a short side-story villain from a crossover series (Secret Wars). My comics reading is mostly 70's and 80's though, so I'm probably missing a lot of current content.
The arrival of any Space Marine chapter on the battlefield is almost never a "FUCK YEAH LETS GOOOO!!" moment. It's usually more of a "Oh God have mercy" moment.
I've been to the movies twice this year, both times because an old-style cinema almost an hour away was doing one of its old movie nights. July 4th, they had The Longest Day on, and November 11th, was Lost Battalion (November 11th they always run a few old war movies. Battle of Britain was also on but was full). Last New Release movies I went to see were Greyhound and Avengers: Endgame.

Ironically, Uncharted 3 is "what if Indy did an adventure in Muslim mythology?" The location is Iram of the Pillars and the treasure's secret dangeous aspect is that it makes you see everything as fiery Djinn out for blood and thats what destroyed the city: everyone went crazy and killed eachother in self defense against smokeless fire demons that weren't really there
I'm a couple hours into Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and it's such a treat inhabiting a younger Raiders-era Indy. The guy doing the voice really nails it. Walking around Marshall College and interacting with screen accurate legacy characters is such a nostalgia hit. The environments are great. Haven't encountered any wokeness, hopefully there is none.
I honestly haven't seen many commercials for tv or movies in the last 5 years and people still say half the budget of every project is marketing. Im gunna go ahead and consider that not true. Not sure where these billions of dollars are going but they arent going to anything ive seen evidence of
No, before i turned off targeted ads i was getting almost exclusively ads for "free 1000-4000 dollars" per month from the government ads. And now im getting mainly mobile game ads @@2ndlegend125
It's entirely possible that so much money is going into marketing campaigns that are just failing. Many companies in the entertainment industry may not quite know how the algorithm works, meaning the ads they spend stupid amounts of money on aren't reaching people. Looking at a movie like Wicked, I wouldn't be surprised if more than half that budget went intng.
The early 2000’s generation was NOT Harry Potter, it was Lord of the Rings. The true last great film series. Shocked you guys would claim it’s Harry Potter
@@jonbaxter2254 Obviously bad writing can screw up any character, but in order to pull off a gender swap successfully you must adhere to the laws of conservation. In order to remove one thing and not cause an uproar it must be substituted with something of equal value, or in this case of "perceived" equal value to the audience. The only way to gender swap the sexiest male character of all time is if he is replaced with the sexiest female character of all time.
Robert Eggers is a fantastic director. Love his work/storytelling and all his films have been good. And Heretic is really good as well, I hear. A24 has has good run.
Heretic gets really silly in the 2nd half, but the part where it's just 3 great actors talking in a room is stellar. I wish they could've thought of a dialogue-based way to end the movie; like, _12 Angry Men_ didn't suddenly have a chase scene in the 3rd act and it was better for it

2:26:12 it’s to show that A) Hans is very smart and has put so much forethought into this heist that he knows the employees’ names and B) that Hans isn’t quite as clever as he thinks he is because he uses the abbreviation “Bill” when the real person is listed as “William”; even though “Bill” is an accepted and widely known abbreviation for “William”, the real Mr Clay prefers to called William. And John picks up on that, which C) shows how very clever McClane is.

YES! I had been looking for someone to talk about From. And Mauler coming in once again with a reality check for people. I knew it was shit!
What book did Northern English B’stard mention - about 1 hour 47 mins in?
lol wanna know that too
War of Rohi rim time stamp 1:00:00
I sort of liked Alien Romulus. 🧐 Children of Men had exceptional camera work, direction, and editing. The long running shot starting when they try to get to the rowboat took a LOT of co-ordination. The tank firing, the rocket launcher. Well done!!! I liked the third and fourth Terminator movies, too. The longer version of the third Alien movie has a much better "birthing" scene.
Great panel!
Terminator Genisys was stupid but Dark Fate was stupid and malicious.
Demolition Man: "Send a maniac, to catch a maniac." 😄
Need to clip Maulers spoilers noise😂
Sarah Conner Chronicles was great! Such a shame that it was canceled. So many great shows canceled before they deserved it! You guys should watch it!
My girlfriend was so traumatised by Lost she won’t commit to any long running US TV series ever again.
2:26:20 I agree with Drinker, I didnt know want the camera was trying to tell us during the Bill Clay scene in Die Hard
The opening segment made me realize I haven’t watched a new movie in more than at least two years.
Whats funny is when they brought up WWZ the only scene that came to mind was the Brad Pitt Pepsi scene and they brought it up.
The arrival of any Space Marine chapter on the battlefield is almost never a "FUCK YEAH LETS GOOOO!!" moment.
It's usually more of a "Oh God have mercy" moment.
It’s pretty great if you’re the guys getting reinforced. Sure the situation was almost certainly dire, but now it’s looking up.
I know it seems to have been forgotten but Arron Taylor Johnson was really fun in Bullet Train.
My favorite Christmas movie is The Long Kiss Goodnight.
And it has Samuel L. Jackson in it which is A PLUS.
After the first two Alien and the first two Predator films I stick with the Dark Horse Alien & Predator Comics.
I do agree with Drinker about World War Z; goodness they squandered the book.
You can tell an amazing story about Helm Hammerhand! Of course they chose to focus on a literal footnote instead.
37:18 tanks also have HE and it becomes direct fire artillery
Cool
Gremlins is the best Christmas movie
This is it!
I've been to the movies twice this year, both times because an old-style cinema almost an hour away was doing one of its old movie nights. July 4th, they had The Longest Day on, and November 11th, was Lost Battalion (November 11th they always run a few old war movies. Battle of Britain was also on but was full). Last New Release movies I went to see were Greyhound and Avengers: Endgame.
you dont need to take avatar seriously, its watchable eye candy, frankly i look forward in 3rd were theres infighting between indigenous 2 different blue ppl, a breakaway from greedy "humans" versus tree huggers(or fish huggers in 2nds case)
I would have settled for Nicholas Hammond Spiderman Vs Venom
How is Die Hard NOT a Christmas movie? It occurs during a Christmas party
The best Christmas Action movie ever made.
Why else chose that day instead of any of the 350 or so other days. Were those days already booked. New Year’s Eve would’ve worked perfectly with the heist plot but clearly they wanted Christmas Eve for a reason
Lethal Weapon too.
Ho-Ho-Ho now I have a machine gun
Errrr, Mauler about the tree in From is no...? Once you've seen the tree you are stuck, I don't know where the idea that there is some other way you can go and not be in the town...but maybe I'm wrong. Decisions don't seem overly bad to drive the plot forward either 🤔 maybe I was caught in the spectacle. Would be interested to hear more on that.
Ironically, Uncharted 3 is "what if Indy did an adventure in Muslim mythology?" The location is Iram of the Pillars and the treasure's secret dangeous aspect is that it makes you see everything as fiery Djinn out for blood and thats what destroyed the city: everyone went crazy and killed eachother in self defense against smokeless fire demons that weren't really there
The lock that can be opened by a 100 different keys is not impressive. Quite the opposite.
Bring back the Gundam!
2:22:47 “No violence or nudity” means Home Alone and Christmas Vacation aren’t Christmas movies, either.
Incorrect, nothing to do with jet lag the making fists with your toes had to do with fear of flying.
Haven't encountered any wokeness, hopefully there is none.
northen english b’stard makes this a challenge to listen to
Unfortunately yes. Was very tough.
Stephen Sommers made The Jungle Book(1994) which is very underrated. And Willem Defoe is just a legend.
Even Barry Norman liked Die Hard. How can that not be the ultimate endorsement?
I enjoyed the pacman episode. I will not stand for this slander
1:13:43 Mauler's true voice took over for a sec there 😭
I will just watch the Conclave again instead. 👼
I honestly haven't seen many commercials for tv or movies in the last 5 years and people still say half the budget of every project is marketing. Im gunna go ahead and consider that not true. Not sure where these billions of dollars are going but they arent going to anything ive seen evidence of
Do you have premium?
The amount of ads I got for that Lord of the Rings movie...
No, before i turned off targeted ads i was getting almost exclusively ads for "free 1000-4000 dollars" per month from the government ads. And now im getting mainly mobile game ads @@2ndlegend125
@@2ndlegend125i also dont have any subscriptions to any streaming services
It's entirely possible that so much money is going into marketing campaigns that are just failing. Many companies in the entertainment industry may not quite know how the algorithm works, meaning the ads they spend stupid amounts of money on aren't reaching people.
Looking at a movie like Wicked, I wouldn't be surprised if more than half that budget went intng.
Being old doesn't mean you're pathetic and useless.
The early 2000’s generation was NOT Harry Potter, it was Lord of the Rings. The true last great film series. Shocked you guys would claim it’s Harry Potter
Blue Eyed Samurai was great but I would rest easier had it been a one and done season.
21:07 If Sydney Sweeney would have been cast for Dial of Destiny, everyone would have been cheered for her replacing Indiana Jones.
No, we would stil hate it. You can't replace a classic character by being hot, just make new characters.

Obviously bad writing can screw up any character, but in order to pull off a gender swap successfully you must adhere to the laws of conservation.
In order to remove one thing and not cause an uproar it must be substituted with something of equal value, or in this case of "perceived" equal value to the audience.
The only way to gender swap the sexiest male character of all time is if he is replaced with the sexiest female character of all time.
"speaking of shitty things in life" hahahaha. So on point the segue .. brilliant
Is Harry Potter, Gremlins, Lethal Weapon Christmas movies? They have Christmas in them? 🤷🏼♂️
Robert Eggers is a fantastic director. Love his work/storytelling and all his films have been good. And Heretic is really good as well, I hear. A24 has has good run.
Heretic gets really silly in the 2nd half, but the part where it's just 3 great actors talking in a room is stellar. I wish they could've thought of a dialogue-based way to end the movie; like, _12 Angry Men_ didn't suddenly have a chase scene in the 3rd act and it was better for it
Well said.
So many people romanticize Nature of old when 0.01% could survive much less enjoy that environment over an extended period.
People want to go back to a “simpler” time. It’s nostalgia, nostalgia blinds people.
I suppose for the sake of argument some nuance could be added. Differentiate between a Christmas movie and a Christmas themed movie.
Yeesh if Mauler was any more low energy and inattentive during that intro he’d be asleep.
He sometimes wonder if he's working on other things during these Open Bars
@ There were just way too many “dead air” moments where Drinker threw to him and he just said nothing because he apparently hadn’t been listening… cmon Mauler I’m sure a lot of people would love to have your spot as co-host!
@L_Martin actually I rewatched it and there's not really ...only one moment when he said he was distracted and changed the topic to Die Hard
Make Indiana Jones have an adventure showing his age and physical faults but he needs to do. Maybe he could sacrifice his life doing something he loves.
2:25:18 MauLer is smarter than most viewers these days. I've seen reaction videos where viewers are honestly confused why Hans was acting that way. Modern audiences are dumb people.
The American psycho will be a lady Infuriated by people getting more online attention. And I just remembered Mila Kunis starred in the unofficial sequel
Watch the Hogfather film by British author Terry Pratchett!
My favorite "Before the Kill" One-Liner is from David Mamet's film "Heist," starring Gene Hackman and Danny DeVito.
Devito: "Don't you wanna hear my last words?"
Hackman: "I just did."
*BAM!*
