Seriously, the fat acceptance movement is little different than the way cigarettes were treated before 1963. Before then, they were considered healthy and good for you even by doctors despite the tobacco companies knowing they were unhealthy. The fat acceptance movement is basically the same thing but with food instead of tobacco, so your sarcastic comparison is right on target.
Only thing to add is don't make fun of fat people at the gym. They recognize they have a problem and are working on fixing it. If anything, offer to help spot them or give them encouragement.
Went from 320lbs in 2020 to 281.5lbs in 2024. I just cut out sugary sodas/drinks, candies, chips, fatty foods, eat more lean proteins like chicken and 20/80 beef content. I drink 2 mugs of coffee with out milk, sugar or creamer, eat a sandwich for lunch, have high protein, low fat cheeses, and eat a modest dinner. I have been losing weight since, its all will power and determination.
Nobody ever likes to hear it but protein and exercise mixed with cutting out all the random process s*** that we eat right now works wonders. And I've seen plenty of overweight people that are still attractive. And those of them that I've actually talked to personally I found out that it almost every single case where I found them attractive they were actively working to try to lose the weight so they still looked HEALTHY... Like you can visibly tell the difference between someone who's overweight and doesn't give a s*** and someone who's overweight and working to better themselves. And it doesn't matter how large or unattractive I find someone if they're actually trying to better themselves I will never say a negative word to them. But if they're just lazy I'll go ahead and be as mean as I feel like.
@@gonzalo5567 weight loss isn't easy. At higher weight, you can drop a lot quickly but you're dropping muscle when you do. You have to raise it back up to keep muscle to do things like walk. It's a tightrope.

As a person that was overweight for most of my childhood and early adulthood, it infuriates me to see people excuse being fat like this. I technically have an excuse, as when I was a kid I had to take steroids for years to combat my severe asthma but even then I was able to pull myself together and lose a lot of weight. I still look like a brick wall, but no longer I look like walking wrecking ball and the width of my belly is no longer bigger then the width in my shoulders and overall, I feel better both physically, medically and mentally. I just wish my biceps were even half the size of my thighs... But seeing people excusing being fat as "I can't do anything about it" or straight out promoting it and claiming that anyone trying to tell them to get fit is just "fatphobic"... My anger builds up.

6'6" 190lbs... spinal cord damage has me in so much pain i can barely eat. Funny thing is i have a harder time walking than these people since i need a walker and yet i still make sure i eat healthy and make myself exercise with what i can physically do. If i get over 220lbs the leg with titanium in the femur starts causing worse pain, im literally one of a few people that being fat is a terrifying concept for me since i know first hand and second hand what it can do. In a society that has a large nanny based safety net you have a responsibility to be healthy otherwise you are an outsized, pun intended, strain on society taking a larger portion of resources without providing anything of value in return.
One example is that a 300 pound person takes twice as much fuel to get airborne than a 150 pound person, yet they pay the same amount for a plane ticket. The 150 pound person is probably paying more than they need to in order to cover the 300 pound person’s fuel cost.

As someone with an actual disability (autism) it’s an insult to have my situation compared to someone who can’t put a hamburger down. Not only that, but my mother isn’t fat by choice. Ever since she had me and my twin she has been physically unable to lose the weight and it’s absolutely destroyed her mental health. She’s tried every diet, she’s tried starving herself, and to see people pretend that it’s healthy is honestly disgusting. It makes people look at my mother as if she had a choice in the matter.

I've had patients get offended and change doctor because I told them to lose weight. It's literally my job to tell them it's unhealthy and carries increased risks.
I was over 300 lbs when I was younger, that was when I ate junk food, didnt exercise, and had started on antidepressant meds that made me gain weight. I average about 270-280 these days!
Simple solution: everyone serves 8 years active duty military enlisted, no exceptions, if you don't continue serving after the 8 years you are moved to the individual ready reserve where you are required to check in twice a year for a complete physical exam and test in which you are required to maintain your your strength, health, and weight. If you don't pass at least one a year you're dishonorably discharged from the military. As long as you maintain standards you're in till age 60. This would solve way more than just weight issues.

Its exactly the opposite. In systems where healthcare is government mandated and subsidized by taxpayers there is a collective incentive to keep the population healthy to bring costs down. This is what happens in a lot of European countries, where they put in real efforts to keep people from being fat because they know a few health campaigns will be a lot cheaper than paying for healthcare costs later. There is no such incentive in privatized systems, you don't collectively pay for, or benefit from a healthy population. Yes if people get unhealthy enough your premiums will go up, but thats no problems for the healthcare industry, in fact they benefit from creating life long patients in this system.
Some advice, some people have been so miserable for so long that they can't imagine not being miserable anymore. Those people won't change no matter what, they could lose an arm or a leg because of their health problems and won't stop. A doctor could tell them to cut out fast food and cigarettes and they still won't listen. Don't surround yourself with people like this, they will drag you down and make you miserable as well.

I was over 300lbs. I knew I was fat, but it didn't hit home until I was diagnosed with non alcoholic fatty liver disease. I was literally destroying my liver and had to make a change. 6'6" 190lbs... spinal cord damage has me in so much pain i can barely eat. Funny thing is i have a harder time walking than these people since i need a walker and yet i still make sure i eat healthy and make myself exercise with what i can physically do. If i get over 220lbs the leg with titanium in the femur starts causing worse pain, im literally one of a few people that being fat is a terrifying concept for me since i know first hand and second hand what it can do. Bur im a white american man so my experience is not acceptable 😅
It may not be 'acceptable' to the radical left, and they sure make a lot of noise and get their narrative pushed by the mainstream media, but they are a tiny minority and the rest of us (White, Black, whatever) know that your experiences, your beliefs, and your values are absolutely valid.

In a society that has a large nanny based safety net you have a responsibility to be healthy otherwise you are an outsized, pun intended, strain on society taking a larger portion of resources without providing anything of value in return.
One example is that a 300 pound person takes twice as much fuel to get airborne than a 150 pound person, yet they pay the same amount for a plane ticket. The 150 pound person is probably paying more than they need to in order to cover the 300 pound person’s fuel cost.

As someone with an actual disability (autism) it’s an insult to have my situation compared to someone who can’t put a hamburger down.
Not only that, but my mother isn’t fat by choice. Ever since she had me and my twin she has been physically unable to lose the weight and it’s absolutely destroyed her mental health. She’s tried every diet, she’s tried starving herself, and to see people pretend that it’s healthy is honestly disgusting. It makes people look at my mother as if she had a choice in the matter.

I was over 300 lbs when I was younger, that was when I ate junk food, didnt exercise, and had started on antidepressant meds that made me gain weight. I average about 270-280 these days!

Simple solution: everyone serves 8 years active duty military enlisted, no exceptions, if you don't continue serving after the 8 years you are moved to the individual ready reserve where you are required to check in twice a year for a complete physical exam and test in which you are required to maintain your your strength, health, and weight. If you don't pass at least one a year you're dishonorably discharged from the military. As long as you maintain standards you're in till age 60. This would solve way more than just weight issues.

Socialized healthcare NEVER works. It goes broke usually within one generation. And then the atrocities begin.
Its exactly the opposite. In systems where healthcare is government mandated and subsidized by taxpayers there is a collective incentive to keep the population healthy to bring costs down. This is what happens in a lot of European countries, where they put in real efforts to keep people from being fat because they know a few health campaigns will be a lot cheaper than paying for healthcare costs later.
There is no such incentive in privatized systems, you don't collectively pay for, or benefit from a healthy population. Yes if people get unhealthy enough your premiums will go up, but thats no problems for the healthcare industry, in fact they benefit from creating life long patients in this system.

Some advice, some people have been so miserable for so long that they can't imagine not being miserable anymore. Those people won't change no matter what, they could lose an arm or a leg because of their health problems and won't stop. A doctor could tell them to cut out fast food and cigarettes and they still won't listen.
Don't surround yourself with people like this, they will drag you down and make you miserable as well.

I was over 300lbs. I knew I was fat, but it didn't hit home until I was diagnosed with non alcoholic fatty liver disease. I was literally destroying my liver and had to make a change. I'm down to the 220's and still got further to go. But this activism infuriates me. Being over weight is clearly a medical issue that needs to be addressed.
