- Elena loses her 10th match in a row at the YEC - it's a pretty poor match from both, especially from Venus, but she ended up being more solid from the baseline and more aggressive when it mattered.
The forehand return 3 meters long on second serve break point down after two consecutive double faults from Venus is one of the mentally weakest moments of Elena's career. Still, Elena made her second and final semifinal at this event, so it wasn't too bad. - Спорт
Even if we dont see that many clean winners, the intensity these 2 brought in each rally was amazing.
Vee made this match way harder than in needed to be. She hit way to many balls right back at Dementieva
Elena was one of the few players who can go toe to toe with the williams' sisters in terms of ground strokes. The rallies are insane!
Sharapova does against Venus very well then elena.
My Queen 😍 I don't think Venus played anything remotely special this tournament (the surface really wasn't for her) but she showed great guts and consistency to win her first YEC. Her match against Jankovic in the SFs was her best tennis of the week IMO.

Such a physically demanding match. Kudos to both ladies. I miss this Venus though. She hits the ball with such confidence and no hesitation. Starting from 2010 I see a lot of hesitation from her on. Its like she lose a lot of confidence since then.
She had a lot of close matches that year where she could not overcome her opponents even though she could ?
The 2010s are where Venus' autoimmune disease hampered her success.
The quality of the YEC matches in the past and now…
YEC in the past had 40 errors each player a match. Highly entertaining and drama but horrible quality.

It would be nice to have a player who plays like Venus. Elena had amazing 2008 year, Olympic Gold was a highlight.
She is like a gazelle and jumps everywhere ! She covers the whole court ! It's so great to see ! 💖💖😍😍

Great match! I felt like Elena had set up opportunities to go DTL with her backhand but continued to go back cross court. She obviously may have tried and made some errors. Solid hitting tho and Venus deserved this win! Thank you
Elena rarely went DTL. She was the crosscourt queen.
My favorite match, which I don't see anywhere, is her dismantling Serena here. 6 0 in the 3rd

IMO Elena didn't play her best matches in this tournament. She beat Safina, that was fine, but battled with Petrova was tough to watch. She knew she is in the semifinal, but credit to her, that she wanted to win this match. Zvonareva was just too good in the semifinal. However the YEC in 2009 and 2010 became a little revanche for Elena. In 2009 she beat Venus and 2010 Stosur, after the heartbreaking loss at the US Open. She may not reached the semifinal again, but I was happy that won at least one RR match. Thank you for the highlights :)
Do you think Elena lost her match to Schiavone on purpose? I think she wanted to retire right at that moment. I would love to be wrong because she had chance to get to the semis.
@@kole1212 I‘m not sure about that. The first set was close, but her attitude was not the same in the second set. Maybe she wanted to win, but on a easy way. I can imagine she gave up when she lost the first set.
This was her 10th loss in a row at YEC?? Really? Sounds unreal considering the fact she was fabulous player. Quite shocking stat tbh.
This the difference between Venus and Serena. Venus can get to more balls. That is why Venus head to head against Dementieva is not close compare to Serena where is closer. Dimentieva can compete with Serena in the rallies. Look at how many long rallies in this match Venus was getting them back. Serena just has a better serve than Venus and I think that is what made the difference in their matches
Look at Serena's Roland Garros performance this year! She got toyed around thinking her serve will do all the work for her...

That’s not the main reason. The only reason Dementieva has a competitive h2h against Serena is because Serena was literally injured in 2 of the 5 matches Dementieva won against her.
Elena always brought her best for the Williams.

@@owenbeharry8478 no, she said something questionable when she was 18 about them in a foreign language she didn't speak very well. She was respectful to them otherwise.
