Hey it's a turbo 2g and the rust doesn't look terminal yet. For $300 you did very well! Yes the back hatches are monstrous and be really careful not to damage the glass. Replacing it is incredibly difficult now. New hatch struts aren't terribly expensive.
Can't wait for this one! I started doing a build on a '95 Eagle Talon but ran out of time and money. Be sure to block off the roof scoop so air doesn't get into it, caused lots of problems for them doing the movie. Or just leave the sunroof and let that be one of the things that isn't 100%!

Happy for you. When we are young, we don't have the resources to do the things our hearts dream of. But, as we grow older and things fall into place, it would make sense to do what we've always dreamt of having but couldn't afford or obtain. Do it. But know that the hardcore fans and even the man (Craig Lieberman) you mentioned are easily offended when people refer to these types of builds as replicas. In their opinion, replicas are exact copies of the original (same exact wing, wheels, etc). It is suggested by them to use the term "inspired build." Otherwise, this is awesome brother. Been following the channel for years and as a DSM guy (own a 90 talon tsi) I’m pumped for this build. Normally DSMs and tight budgets don’t go together so this could be interesting 😂
Hey Justin, would definitely like to see the channel evolve to shorter (10-25min) videos once a week. It's more editing work but keeps people more engaged. Posting on the same day each week is a best practice for the algorithm. Shorts and long form (40min+) videos are good for content diversity but I'm not sure they make a difference in channel performance unless you post a lot of them. Good luck with the build!
I wanted a GST or GSX back in the day. You dont see manybof them anymore. Beautiful cars with the OEM High wing. Id rather see a oem plus build though 😢
Really nice looking interior. Even without an engine, that car is worth more than $300. Heck I just paid $500 for a toilet with labor, and I'd rather have Brian's Eclipse over that any day lol. Gonna be sad in 40 years when there's barely any of them left. I really liked that care when I was 10-12 years old. Swore I would get one one day.
I would love to see the entire process in many different videos. My is 17 right now and he’s looking into building a F&F replica of this car as well. And it could help him. Specially that you’re gonna do it at a budget
NFS U2 and MW are the biggest reason of why I'm into cars, I only own a 6th gen Celica for now. Dream cars are Toyota Supra, R32-34 Skyline or Mazda RX-7.

This might be one of your toughest challenges yet, these engines are notoriously finicky to work on. But if anyone can do it right on a budget, it’s gonna be you.
Can't say I agree with you. The 4G63 has a massive community and nearly every maintenance item and mod documented many times over. Stout platform with tons of support.
@802Garage Didn’t mean to imply that it is was a bad engine. It is stout and can handle a lot of power. Only that I hear it, like other early turbo 2s, can be relatively more challenging or expensive to work on than some of the cars he usually builds (had a couple of friends who did Honda builds give up on their Eclipse projects). Regardless, I’m sure there are enthusiasts out there like yourself that can make them sing 👍
@@pcprincipal2830 Hmmm I guess I would suspect that idea comes from the Honda community, hahaha. The 4G63 isn't much different to work on than any Honda inline 4. I suppose there may be some cheaper options for parts out there for the Honda engines, but really it's about the same in my experience. Definitely don't want to be combative I just also don't want people to think there is something exotic about this engine as it's pretty standard as far as 4 bangers go and pretty stout with good support. Definitely more complex than an SOHC old school Honda engine, but that's not what you want going for power anyways. :D I think the Eclipse platform itself is a bit more finnicky than a Honda, but the turbo engines are kind of the high point of the platform. ;)
@802Garage For sure, my dad owned a prelude and was strongly against anyone buying a turbo Mitsubishi at the time for that sentiment haha. Looks like these cars may not be as tough as I thought if you’ve got the know-how. Thanks for sharing more on the topic, I learned a bit. Keep up making great content 👍
@@pcprincipal2830 TBH they are an 80s engine design updated to 90s DOHC I4 spec in an early 90s designed chassis with rather simple electronics and overall complexity. Compared to anything made after 2000 or so they are a walk in the park, hahaha. They have their quirks for sure, but as with most platforms, familiarity breeds confidence. A lot of people think Subarus are hard to work on and in my experience they are the easiest and for the most part most consistent platform to wrench on. With a few exceptions, most jobs on a Subaru are easier than any transverse engine I4 or certainly V6 car.
Love your content, brother. Budget builds are all I can afford so I love seeing your builds that you keep tight budgets on and you still deliver great looking cars. I think weekly or even every other week would be great. Keep it up!
I feel the fast n furious builds are too over done at this point. This car would be much better done as resto-mod vs putting a body kit on it. It's ultimately your car and decision, but I'd much rather see a clean oem plus style build
Not over done for HIM..? HE wants to make a replica... just because something is overdone doesn't mean someone can't do it because many others have? Makes no sense to me let him do what he wants
I think his angle of DIY on a budget will be a very fun angle for this replica. Unlike for example Tavarish wanting to make an actually perfect replica. You can't people don't love to see a visually approximate replica rolling around town!
I’m very excited for this build. I know a guy in VA that has the wheels BUT they are 4x114.3 so you would have to run an adapter if they even make them that will work
He’s a fan of the original movie, I say it would be a really fun challenge to try and replicate the film car. Different kind of vid for the channel and I think it would draw more outside audience from fans of the movie series. 💯
