For me it was Kit Harington aka Jon Snow from Game of Thrones for many years, but Alexander Dreymon moved into the number 1 spot 😍 when I became a fan of The Last Kingdom June 2021. But seriously I have a great deal of respect for Alexander as an actor, creator and his work in protecting endangered wildlife.
What's more... many people who work with him have commented how kind and nice and smart he is. It also shows on his instagram. Truly a special human being.
I didn't even know The Last Kingdom is from a book! I just finished watching 7 Kings must die and came online to watch the cast interviews, and this is what I found! Now I will be on the hunt for all those books!!!
Did you do it? Im about to finnish my third book of the series and i must say, as so often, the books are even better than the tv series. Kinda way better. But the show's still lit. But 7 Kings must die was awkward, rushed.
I'd say dominant ethnic-groups in the British Isles being invaded and replaced by one after another during the medieval days is hardly a positive thing to compare modern day mass migration to.
I became a fan of TLK a few months ago and have watched the TV series several times. I recently purchased the first book and I'm excited to learn more about Uhtred and other characters.
They need to study the definition of INVADER vs IMMIGRANT. One moves graciously to live in a land that doesn’t originally belong to them. The other takes over land that belongs to someone else and their riches, children, women. Maybe Alexander didn’t learn from the Danes after all.
Remember that the Anglo Saxons were invited over by Voregum king of the Britons in 449AD they didnt invade as such untill about 457 when they killed 4,000 Britons in one day. in Kent.
In 910 they were, but 150 years later, the Viking blood was diluted down quite a bit. Danes in Normandy were a small ruling minority, and didn't have a large genetic impact on the region, just like the Normans, despite becoming the ruling class of England, didn't have much genetic impact there either.
In the time of Uhtred they weren't. The Normans came much later - a few hundred years - and they were not "vikings", although they came from the northern parts of continental Europe. In the time of Alfred the Great, what is now France was occupied by the Franks - Germanic peoples from the Continent.
greenshp the story take place around 878 before Normandy became Normandy. In 1066 the normans by William the conquer invaded England. William if I remember correctly 5th generation of Rollo who was the first Duke of Normandy in 910. Normandy was a mix of Vikings and locals. Do you know why you see blondes and blue eyes in northern Italy? Because the cimbers lost to the Romans 101 bc where 150.000 were captured. Another fact Queen Elizabeth is directly related to the Viking Rollo, Viking blood
What does the "Last Kingdom" have against providing their characters with appropriate headgear. There are warriors without helmets, clergy without birettas or miters and peasants without any hats or bonnets. This is a major oversight as far as accuracy.
Most films omit helmets, head gear, bonnets and other hats. Even game of thrones mostly ditched these. Why is no one bagging out how ludicrous it is that the Night's Watch don't wear protective hats? Yet everyone pays out on The Last Kingdom, and it is mostly because of one Lindybeige video. The idea in film/tv is that people supposedly won't recognise the characters properly if you have their hair/heads covered up too much. Accuracy is lower priority compared to the viewers ability to follow a storyline. You have no idea how many people still can't tell the difference between Stannis Baratheon and Roose Bolton (in GoT). Can you imagine how much worse it would be for these types of voewers if everyone was wearing hats when they were outdoors.
I also don't get why the costumes and weapons are so horrendously historically inaccurate. The stuff Danes, Saxons, etc. wore back then looks badass to this day, so I don't buy that argument. Plus it would also probably be a lot easier to make since tunics/mail is a lot simpler looking than all this studded leather and fur crap.
Allen He was born in Germany but grew up in the US, France and Switzerland. A mixture of all those accents in his speech gives the illusion of a British accent.
The idea of a boy being adopted by Norsemen invaders was introduced decades before Cornwell, by Soviet writer Yuri Vronskiy. In that book the boy had Slavonic origin from Novgorod vicinity. That story was brought to the big screen in 1985 as a movie "Trees Grow on the Stones Too" and was distributed in UK, Germany and even in the US.
If your point is that Cornwell somehow "stole" the idea, you're wrong. You're talking about an era when 1)slavery was very common and many children grew up in another culture and 2) we have many contemporary doc's attesting to actual people and cases. This idea is common, and there are true stories predating anything any modern writer could come up with. Cornwell was simply taking information he knew about Britain in that era, and running with it.
@@greenshp I do not imply that Cornwell stole the idea. Of course, first of all, there is a story of saint Patrick - he was of Roman nobility - his nickname mean "a patrician".He was enslaved being very young and he had immense success in his life and preaching. I do not understand that hype about Bernard being so wise or historically correct. As far as read the first book I have found several severe historical errors. Like Uthred's second baptism (which is a heresy according to Creed) or Uthred making "a devil's sign" by his index and little fingers to his uncle, but you can find many Orthodox icons of that era depicting Christ blessing with the same combination of fingers. So, Cornwell translates modern meaning into ancient times. However, TV series are great. The showrunners, actors and the crew did justice to that epoch as it was possible to a TV show with such a budget.
@@dawnatkinson4307 I don't know if you will be able to find a good translation of "The Trees Gerow on the Stones", but if you like vikings history, you can give a try to The Long Ships or Red Orm (original Swedish: Röde Orm meaning Red Serpent or Red Snake) it's an adventure novel by the Swedish writer Frans G. Bengtsson.
I wonder why Alexander speaks with an accent in certain interviews and then in other interviews he speaks with an American accent. I suppose he’s trying to stay in character? I am not sure

The interview could be way more interesting. Mr.Cornwell had so much arguments and answers what the presenters got suprised with that. Got lost and asked the "escape" question and end it all asap...
I'd imagine that people who come from (or descend from) the eastern parts of England would have a higher amount of Saxon (and Danish) ancestry, and those from western England would have higher amounts of Celtic ancestry.
@@joannechisholm4501 when I say 'Saxon' I meant it as a collective, to include Angles, Saxons and Jutes (maybe should have used the term Anglo-Saxon). Angles mainly settled in the Midlands and North, so Uhtred would be an Angle strictly speaking, whereas the Saxons settled more the south. But my point was that the eastern parts of England would have the heaviest concentration of Anglo-Saxon blood, as their ships arrived on the eastern and southern shores, and their people settled there first. As they moved further west, they would have intermingled with the Britons more and more, and the Germanic blood would be more diluted, with Celtic genetics becoming more prominent.
Bernard Cornwell is my hero. His mind is brilliant and his ability to tell a great story is beyond words.
Highly reccommend the Saxon audiobooks if you have a chance.
amazing stories and characters as far back as Sharpe!

Wow, Bernard Cornwell. My favorite writer. This show is great. The books are better. Alex is Prettier than how I imagined Uhtred.

Remember the last baptism scene? Woooooo Peachy.
He looks sssoooo young!!!
Omg! He is so gwapo!
Love it! Although they could have chosen a better clip....
When he’s interviewed by an American, his accent is American. When he’s interviewed by Brits, his accent turns British.
Wow great audio man👍
Awkward moment when Bernard Cornwell talks about 'creed' and religion at 6:40 and the presenters don't know how to take it.
I was thinking that as well, then they just awkwardly cut him off and end the segment even though he was presenting interesting thought and dialogue.
He was right, that is an interesting element
Awaiting for season 5.... 😭😭😭
A beautiful man
one heck of a show
In American interviews he speak with an American accent in the UK he speaks perfect English ???
Will The Warlord Chronicles be made into a series?
No plans yet
Apparently HBO want to adapt it
