    A Wolverine with a favorite Buckeye; not the first time I’ve seen that. I lived in Sylvan Lake for several years so there’s a few north of Toledo things I appreciate too.

    Love your planes and the fact you have a plane from Michigan because you come from there. I have 2 Siegley and 1 Hahn plane from Wilkes Barre Pa where my father is from even though my main collection is Stanley US.

      I've also got a couple of Siegley planes, my mothers father and grandfather were craftsmen from Trucksville. Those planes' original irons have been sharpened so many times, they're too short for the adjusters.

    I think Michael Williams is correct. I believe I have seen an earlier Type, or two #5 1/4 before. I've always kind of been looking for them again since ? the last decade or so, it seems.

    Hi, I have a question for you.
    Did Stanley make a brass 4 1/2 hand plane?

    • @justplanefun
      @justplanefun  Рік тому

      Not that I know of. Lie Nielsen makes bronze planes in the Bedrock style but as far as I know Stanley never did.
      Pattern makers have been known to make clones of the old Stanleys as a (typically one-off) project. Do you have one?

    • @willswoodshop
      @willswoodshop Рік тому

      No I do not have one however I saw one this past Sunday. The person was trying to sell it. It looked old. It had made in the USA on the sole ahead of the tote. It had a stanley branded cap on it, a made in USA stanley iron. It was a 4 1/2. The entire thing was brass. It was very heavy. He wanted £150 for it. This was in the UK. I did not buy it, maybe I should have. The reason I did not was because I never heard of it before.

    It looks like you're the only person on this planet who knows about the #4 leonard Bailey (pre Stanly) Do you know of any depth adjustment mechanism that would fit it? It seems impossible to find one in this universe.

      @@justplanefun Thank you so much or replying, I really do appreciate it. My plane is in an excellent all original condition except for that missing part. I'm really not a hand tool guy, and use power tools but love to collect. I'm thinking about selling it, what do you think the best way to do so? sell individual parts or the whole thing without the missing piece? There are none for sale out there as we speak.

      @@tutzking3318- the lever cap and blade should be the same as a No5. The frog mechanism (that’s what you’re missing, right?) fits all sizes of Bailey Victor planes. Leonard Bailey was big on having as many interchangeable parts as possible among the different sizes

    What was the point of this video? I watched hoping to hear some comparative evaluations, pros & cons, discussion of finer points of use & maintenance. You know, something a little ... informative. Instead, just empty-headed collecting nonsense. Why don't you sell these off so people who use tools can put them to woek?

    • @justplanefun
      @justplanefun  2 роки тому

      Wow. Aren’t you just a ray of sunshine…
      Even though you’re taking a fairly rude approach to someone you don’t know, I’ll attempt to answer your questions. I’m slowly building a very small following here on UA-cam. Been at it for about a year now. I’ve had numerous people ask me if I would show the group my collection so after thinking about it a while, this is the format I decided on. So I guess this video didn’t really do anything for you… thanks for watching anyway. Fortunately there have been a lot of other people who have enjoyed it 🤓
      No one can please all the people, all the time. Had I made a longer video with comparing and contrasting the planes shown here, I would have gotten feedback that it was too long and/or boring. Now if you’re submitting a request for that video, I can see about working it in at some point.
      Finally, no I won’t be selling off my hand planes just because you don’t approve of my video, or my collection, or whatever else you don’t like. Bless your heart ❤️ JD Star. Bless your heart

      What was the point of this comment? There are heaps of comparative evaluations floating around, and videos covering anything you could possibly want to know about maintaining and using a hand plane. Why should he sell off a collection of rarer antiques that he and others appreciate? There are literally millions of hand planes floating around if someone wants a user.

      JD, You seem to assert that MJ is strictly collecting these. I would highly recommend you get to know MJ and his business Just Plane Fun. I say that because if you knew what he was about you would appreciate what he does to support all us hand tool users in addition to collectors. He uses his planes. He sells planes. He sells parts. So do yourself a favor and get to know the person you just criticized because he is what you are asking for but he also has a cool collection.
