Draconian are one of my top 5 favorite bands - their music is highly underrated and extremely beautiful melodies and lyrics - Heike the singer is in Hallatar

Heike, the female vocalist, is absolutely amazing. Shes my crush no lie. My perfect woman. Shes actually new. She joined the band on this, their 6th album, but their old vocalist, Lisa was in the band for the first 5 albums. But she is absolutely fucking amazing as well, you REALLY need to hear her too!!!!
Anders, the male vocalist, is absolutely amazing too. He has written the lyrics for the most of their songs, im sure there have been certain songs written by other members and other members helping on songs. But Anders is one of my favorite vocalists. He has such a steady, deep, dark growl, that he has kept since the beginning. Its always been so fucking good, since their first demos hahaha. He has such a way with words too, and the lyrics are like poetry.
I actually requested these guys for a long time too haha just other songs than this one. Maybe since you enjoyed this so much, you will do more, and maybe one of the songs ive requested? Ive requested their older stuff. The song i would like you to hear is Death, Come Near Me. While its old (2003) and lacks the production quality of this song and album (Sovran), it makes up for it in pure masterpiece writing. The lyrics, instruments, harmonies, vocals. Just everything. You guys will LOVE it too!!!
Oh and guys, it was funny you mentioned Hallatar! Heike actually sings a feature on one of their songs!!! And then on Cathedral walls video, is the woman that Hallatar has an album based on. The vocalist from Amorphis in the band, and his partner, Aleah Stanbridge, who was in Trees of Eternity another amazing band you should listen to. She died, and the album is based on her. Anyways, Heike, female vocalist od Draconian features on one of their songs!

This entire album, Sovran, is a beautiful piece of work. Heavy Lies the Crown and The Wretched Tide (songs 1 and 2 on the album) have some incredible lyrics and melodies to them.
Awesome reaction guys! :) I do just love Draconian. And yeah I do agree, pretty funny that they have gone unnoticed until now haha. Really nice that you decided to check them out though :) Would love to see you react to "Death, come near me" sometime in the future. It's one of the best songs I know for sure, up there with "The Shift - Eye of the Enemy", "Insanity's Crescendo - Dark Tranquillity" and so on :)

Heaven Laid in Tears
is even better than daylight misery and I so much hoped and often requested it to do it. But at least they did now one song by them. But definitely I still wish so much that they would do heaven laid in tears...
Yes! Could not have clicked any faster! My favourite doom metal sound! Sweet Draconian! Please bring more reactions to them! Such an underrated band! Beautiful, deep compositions that pull you under, submerged in the emotion they unveil!

I just love them. I saw them live this spring and it was breath-taking. I almost couldn't drive the car home afterwords, because I was so emotionally exhausted.
Why haven't I listened to them before... This kind of music just hits and fits my mood any time. This particular song is so well made.
For anyone else seeking similar music, their fellow Swedes, the band October Tide are a great doom band, they've got a good music video for the song "Reckless Abandon" for example. For fans of Finnish doom, Hanging Garden is a late find of mine. Their song "Penumbra" with Swallow the Sun's Mikko Kotamäki is also worth checking out.
Just a short listen on Spotify and I'm already liking this album you suggested! Sounds excellent despite being over 10 years old, awesome guitar sounds.
After having seen StS live last november, my next goal is to see Hanging Garden on a gig. By the way, a smaller Finnish band called Skein could also work for you, there's maybe less metal in them but definitely a lot of atmosphere.

I feel like explaining some things^^ First of all, yes, Heike Langhans is part of the band, but only since 2012 therefore older Draconian songs have a different female singer, however the old singer is really good as well, but I prefer Heike. You mentioned Hallatar and I can say that you're not that far off, since Heike also did some guest vocals on the Hallatar album for the song "My Mistake". In fact Swallow the Sun are good friends of them and after Aleah Stanbridge died both bands were really hardly affected by that since Heike and Aleah both came from South Africa and were really close friends. So after Juha Raivio, the fiance of Aleah and the main songwriter and guitarist of Swallow the Sun, wrote the Hallatar album it was only natural that she accepted to be on it. Juha also said that if he ever wanted to perform the Trees of Eternity album, which was the side project he had with Aleah, live on stage there could only be Heike singing the same words as Aleah did. So yeah, this whole story is really sad but this makes their music just so much more meaningful. In terms of Draconian songs I highly recommend you to check out "Rivers Between Us" from the latest album or the 15 minute long "Death, Come Near Me" with the old singer, which are both really beautiful songs that probably could cause depression... Just thinking about these songs makes me sad, but the sadness and despair is what makes these songs so beautiful :)
The band had only one female vocalist - Lisa Johansson. Heike Langhans is actually the second one. She has joined the band in 2012 and record with them the newest Sovran album. And yes, female vocal in Draconian band is very important part. It's present in almost every their song. If You guys enjoyed her voice, I can recommend you her own project LOR3l3i and also project's in which she's involved to, like: ISON and Hearts of Black Science. These are not metal but you will find it very climatic and atmospheric.
PS. I'll prefer Lisa's voice, but both in my opinion are epic. :)
I worshiped draconian with Lisa. Heike Langhans is just ok, but with Lisa it was a totally different feeeling and experience

Funny you mentioned Hallatar. Heike Langhans sings with Hallatar on "My mistake" :) Heike was a friend of Aleah Stanbridge who was the singer of Trees of Eternity. Hallatars album "No stars upon the bridge" is based on Aleahs lyrics and poems released after she died of cancer. Juha Raivo who is a member of Swallow the sun was Aleahs lifepartner and he was also a part of Trees Of Eternity and formed Hallatar.
Almost all of their songs include clean (female) and harsh vocals. Try either "Death, Come Near Me" or "Heaven laid in tears". Dark and depressing AF.

Amazing band, one of the best doom-gothic metal bands since 2001. And yes, all the song have harsh and female vocals! Check any of their songs, you won't be dissapointed
Acompanho o Draconian a 15 anos, desde quando ainda estava no colegial (ensino médio). As musicas deles me acompanham até hoje pois é um das minhas bandas favoritas. Recomendo muito que peguem algo dos 2 primeiros albums, por exemplo as músicas "A Slumber Did My Spirit Seal" ou "Daylight Misery".
I luckily learned about this band by blindly buying their debut album because the CD cover looked cool. Been a fan ever since then.

One of my all time favorite bands.....the atmosphere they create just reaches deep!
Met the bandmembers, solid kind people. They are not my style but their work is beautiful and so full of ghost-like soul. Rivers between us is an awesome song with a beautiful music video! Heike does a lot of art so you'll see how impressive she is!

Hard to go wrong with Draconian! If "beauty and the beast" is a genre you dig, I'd say to give "Seraphic Deviltry" by Theatre of Tragedy (Can't go wrong with Liv Kristine!) a shot, personally, the greatest song of this genre.
Have to recommend Gormathon again though! "Land of the Lost" or "Skyrider" are great first songs. I can't be the only one pushing this band!

One of those rare situations, when the new singer sounds just as breathtakingly beautiful as the former one. You need to listen to them with your eyes closed, so soothing.

I truly love Draconian.
Another band I enjoy is Engel. If you want to check them out go for 'Sense The Fire' or from their newer material 'The Condemned'
Their style is something in between of industrial and melodic death metal.
Definitely try some of their older stuff. The morning star, Heaven Laid in Tears, River between us. OR if you want to see where they first started out, they have their demo song Cthulhu Rising on youtube.
