I believe that Kuvira was genuine about her love for BJ. But she decided to make the sacrifice for the sake of her Empire - she might be going about it the wrong way, but she really does want what's best for her people. She's willing to sacrifice everything she loves for the sake of what she considers the greater good.
The narrative of the show frames it as if she's an incredibly determined badass, rather than an imperialist warmonger willing to kill whomever should it further her goals of expansion.
@@Boss_Isaac I mean, it's not necessarily exclusive I guess. It's just a question of interpretation. I don't think that Kuvira was just using Bataar Jr. for his smarts just loved her empire more than him. She believe that it would be necessary for the world and did not want to let her relationships stop her from achieving that goal. But yeah maybe she could have united the Earth Empire in another way besides you know, dictatorship and empires.
Yeah, like all Korra's vilains, she is reacting to something unfair; in an extreme way. Amon was right to point out the inequality between benders and non benders. After a hundred years there were earth/fire families that actually made lives together. So the people decided that
