The MG 5, styled MG5, is a B-segment petrol car that goes up against traditional non-national rivals from Japan like the Honda City and Toyota Vios. It will be the first Chinese brand to go directly against these two solid options. Proton’s S70, which has its roots in China’s #Geely Emgrand but Proton markets the S70 as a C-segment vehicle.
With an introductory price of RM86,900, the #mg5 looks to be an extremely good value-for-money option for those looking to upgrade from a national car. The engine is a 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol 4-cylinder with an output of 114PS and 150Nm of torque. It sends power to the front wheels via an 8-speed iCVT automatic gearbox. MG claims it has done 2.35 million kilometers of durability testing with this vehicle.
The #Proton S70 comes with a turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol engine putting out 150PS and 226Nm of torque, which are quite impressive numbers. The base spec Proton S70 Executive goes for RM73,800, while the mid-spec premium variant goes for RM79,800, while the top spec flagship and flagship X variants go for RM89,800 and RM94,800 respectively

You're absolutely right, corolla cross still using 50 years old technology for the parking brake while others in the same segment already comes with electronic parking brake/hold.
The electronic parking brake is cheaper to manufacture. Manual parking brake less electronics and will likely last longer. Electronics and high heat and humidity don't go well.
The corolla cross should be cheaper then. But its not.

Its no longer about the brand but more on the features, electronics, navigation etc
I was surprised while test driving the GAC GS3 Emzoom that it even came with auto brake hold that Mercedes implemented more than 10 years ago and Japanese manufacturers didn't deemed it fit to equip their cars with it, it may seems trivial but a real blessing if you are in a traffic jam.
You will be pleasant to know that the GS3 Emzoom car infotainment lags as experienced by some of the car owners. GAC team have yet to come back to this owners on what are the options available to remedy the situation.
Your report is true to the fact. The legacy brand future is numbered. Legacy brand have been making too much profit and being overpriced for so long. Legacy brand car are yesteryear car. Chinese made EV are futuristic and offer better price , quality, feature , safety, reliability and design. All around the world legacy brands sales are on the decline. Thanks to China economy of scale which benefited consumers. Says goodbye to legacy brand.

I don't think Japanese can catch up with Chinese, soon Chinese tech will become de facto standard.
For far too long as far as I can remember, we Malaysian car buyers have endured high automobile prices and insurances. Even Malaysian assembled cars are beyond reach and exorbitant. Most of us can afford once in a lifetime a new car with shoddy Malaysian made quality.
90K+ cars are not that cheap for most Malaysians but hoping for more cars to enter the country and drive down the locally manufactured car prices which are almost on par with imported ones

People have been bashing Chinese cars, but that's the reality. The so called China cars are only getting better, just like what Korean cars used to be. Soon, those people will be the jokes.

I heard last time Potong X70 got parts availability issue.
They can give 10 years factory warranty but if 4S centres are scarce and parts not available also an issue.
Buy first worry later

China cars will not sell cheap in long term..
But will always be cheaper than the Japanese and Korean cars. Chinese cars are produced in big volume and updated much more faster too. If one Chinese car wants to fight for sales and keep the sales, they can sell at lower prices, and this is very true in the EV category.
