Honestly there is an easy answer to this. Very few physical copies are made for the US audience. They sell the small amount they make quickly and don’t make more. Yeah, I've found ARPGs where you don't have party members to be way harder and more tedious. About YS Origin, is true that Hugo's campaign is easier overall, however Yunica does have a projectile attack that makes stuff easier in the late game, some of those sections seemed to be designed with projectiles in mind since the enemies are so annoying so at that point I just stopped using Yunica's melee attacks other than for the bosses.
I've been playing through all of the Ys games on Steam/Switch and only have Memories of Celceta, Oath in Feighana, Ark of Napishtim and Ys 7 left. Super happy to learn Memories of Celceta is easy since that's next on my list! Also, Ys 8 is my favorite Ys game out of all the ones I've played!

I played YS I&II on the Turbo CD and immediately after completing it I played chronicles I & II remake on PC. I found the remake to be much more challenging then the old Turbo CD release, specifically the bosses.
I have just discovered these games. I finished 8, origins and almost done with 9. I didn't find them to be all that difficult. Except the final boss in origins. That thing kicked my ass.
YS IX is on discount on the PSN right now. I just finished Tales of Arise, and im on the mood for another Action RPG. Tales of Arise is Game of the Year to me. Loved every moment, played on moderate difficulty.
Your reviews got me started on Ys. I skipped most of them because they were too old for my taste. So I started with 7. I have no experience wtih arpgs, Ys 7 is basically my introduction to them. Maybe that's why I sometimes still die and have trouble even though I'm still playing on easy mode. Maybe I lack experience. But hearing you say that 7-9 are the easiest ones makes me think I just suck at arpgs >_
I did not know this many Ys came out here. I only have the Turbo CD versions. Beat both. I am curious, how does the soundtrack compare on the remakes to the Turbo CD? I thought the DS paled to it.
I never found ys iii that difficult if u grind. Pretty easy to grind in this one too. If u find an enemy that auto spawns that u can kill with one hit u can just use something to hold the attack button down and walk away. Come back in a few hours to see how many levels u gained just make sure that u secure the button well so u wouldnt stop attacking while youre not paying attention. U can do this really early on in the game. And just do it again as needed.
Same on YS Origin, there is this stage where the monster spawns indefinitely though you have to change screen. Just go back and forth. Rinse and repeat.
Ok, I was starting to think I was crazy. I just beat Napshitim and everyone was crazy on how difficult it was. Ye, it was challenging and I could get 2 shot but after a bit of grind. Nothing obecene like Final Fantasy, everything was a breeze. Including Majunun (with RNG on my side ofc). All I did there was grind for gold and spam seed of power and beat everything level 51, which was fairly easy to get. DIdn't even max out all swords. Only the shock one. But good to know that if you grind a bit, you can still play the game.
The first Ys game I've finished was Ys VI. I really loved it but, for some reason, I can't remember if I played it on normal or hard mode. What was my name again?
I started the Ys series somewhat recently with Ys 8 on switch its fun haven't beat it tho but I bought a lot of Ys games on stream and right now I'm playing through Ys Origin and it's fun like really fun but dang that difficulty curve is crazy mainly with boss fights. also, is there a difference between Ys 1 and 2 and Ys 1 and chronicles or ios chronicles just the remake of the first two?
Game prices compared to income is bad in Mexico. It's not awful like in some other SA countries but still kinda expensive, that's why piracy was so common before. As far as I'm aware newer consoles are harder to pirate on so I don't really see that anymore but still, it's always better to wait til price drops or sales. I play on PC which at least has regional oricing.
I played Ys 9 on PS5 on hard and it was oddly easy. Never died once in a boss battle, was actually super surprised and even more so that nobody seems to complain about it online. You're the first one to mention it, usually I'm pretty terrible at games even.
The Ys games while easier as time went on, the old school ones do require a strategy guide when you get stuck. Because while you can most certainly level grind in Ys 1 and 2, you will get to a level cap where you can't level grind further and if you are stuck and don't know where to go, that is when I would often resort to a strategy guide like on game FAQs.
If we count the "only in japan" games, Ys V expert is hard as balls as you must use a technique that is not mention anywhere, nor is teach you anywhere and you find it just by messing around with the shield
So as someone who only plays Ys on the hardest difficulties now... - Hard disagree with Celceta's placement, I personally struggled a bit with it compared to Seven (maybe I'm just bad but yeah). - Ys 8's Inferno mode can be pretty Brutal, I'd honestly put it higher (maybe above Ys 1 and 2). - I see you shown a snippet of gameplay of the DS version of Ys 1, props to you for that (I love the DS one personally)! That version is so much easier though lol (bar a couple bosses) (even on Nightmare). Actually I'd personally say the DS Ys 1 is a bit easier than Ys 9, but otherwise I agree with Ys 9 being easiest. - Your top 2 are 100% spot on! I'd put the original Ys 3 above Oath in Felghana though tbh, for sure. The only bearable version of the og Ys 3 is the Genesis one imo because it has a max level glitch you can execute at the start of the first dungeon (even then the end dungeons still suck though lol); the rest can die.
I don't know if it was just me but I found that flash guard/dodge was a little harder to pull off on celceta. Maybe its because I was playing on a vita instead of a faster console though, I dunno.
Ys Seven on PSP was my first Ys and the only game I finished in one sitting in that little machine. Lacrimosa of Dana was really good that I felt empty after finishing it in 50 hours. Origins and Ark of Naphistism are too hard for me
I played Ys 1,2,3 on MSX2 back in the days. And Ys4 on Snes. Now i'm playing through all Ys titles i can find. Did 1 and 2 first, then 6 and now i'm playing Origin. After this i'm going to play 3 or 7, since these 2 i can get it for 10 euros. 4 still cost 25 euros. I'll wait for it to drop to 10 euros, hehe. 8 and 9 are both still expensive. When i'm done with the rest, i hope these 2 will drop in price too. 8 cost 45 and full 60 for 9 is ouch after all this time it has been released already. These 2 i would buy for 25. Ys was my first RPG i played. Still have strong memories of Ys 1 and 2.
The remake of 3 and Ys 6 are like the Souls of Ys! Damn they're so hard! I think that type of gameplay for the series was perfected with Ys Origins! Ys 9 must be played on Hard or Nightmare in the first play through to feel the challenge!
I've only beaten two Ys games on Nightmare: Monstrum NOX and SEVEN. For IX, that was actually on my first playthrough. NOX on Nightmare felt easier than VIII on Hard.
Ys III: Wanderers from Ys can seem brutally hard if you just attempt to straight up fight the bosses as if you were playing something like a Castlevania game. There is a secret to beating each boss and most can be defeated in a few seconds by exploiting the secret. Most of the bosses can be defeated quickly just by equipping the power ring and then jumping while holding your sword out in just the right place on the boss' hitbox to where you will continually do massive amounts of damage for a few seconds at a time. There are some videos here on UA-cam of Ys III playthroughs that will show how to fight each boss and you may find yourself surprised at how some seemingly impossible bosses can be taken down so easily. Also, the Sega Genesis release is probably the least hard of the versions because the gameplay mechanics are more smooth than the others (this especially makes the platforming less of an annoying task in a few infamous areas), though you will miss out on the wonderfully awful voice acting from the Turbo CD version if you go that route.
9 felt easier for the variety of resources since crafting in 8 was supposed to be an alternative of the economic systems, with both crafting and buying you always could be at max resources with a decent level of exploration, while in 8 you always had to comprimise in something to make other stuff
Ys V is NOT that bad. I actually had a fun time with it and did a review on my channel. My views have certainly changed on it and now that I've played almost all of them, i can say it's one of the worst. But terrible? Not even close. Great video... and yeah Ys III is definitely the hardest I've played so far, but I beat the Genesis version a few years ago! It was NOT easy. Won't be doing that again lol.
5 is an absolute joke difficultly wise. You can demolish everything in your way with little trouble, the final boss is an absolute mockery, the only thing that is properly a pain is having to grind for money which takes forever. It’s so easy they had to re-release the game with the difficulty increased! Usually it’s the other way around but Ys 5 is such a breeze it really needed that
Only beat Ys VIII and Origin, I gotta admit playing both on easy proved to be a bit challenging especially boss battles in Origins (Yukina route). I have a backlog of Ys titles pending,I right now I'm playing Memories of Celceta.
Just got YS VIII. Imma play on hard for my first playthrough. Had I not been subbed I honestly would have never found out about this series. I will eventually play all of them but the game hasn't been THAT difficult so far 🙌🏾
I'm level 17, and I haven't had a ton of problems except with that stupid T-rex in Green Valley. He's definitely on my hit list. 🗡 (FYI, he's level 42.)
I started on Hard but then I realised the game was actually fun as hell, so I may end up 100% it. So I restarted it after an hour or so on Nightmare. So far so good, at least when you don't get 1 shot lol
Erik Says he's bad at action rpgs. Ys8 isn't really that hard, I played it on hard myself. Make sure you do everything during Dana's playable parts (especially talking to the short pink hair girl and trying to 'find' her when she plays hide and seek). I believe that's what's required to unlock the final 'dungeon' and boss. The true final boss was really weird. I only did it once so maybe my impression is off but I was like 'is this a joke? This is easy'... for like 5 minutes... and then I realized it was like 5 more minutes and I was like 'this is still the same but.. for some reason it's not easy anymore'.. and then by the end I was actually worried I might lose (but I didn't). It was interesting. I never met a boss like that before in gaming where it seemed easy at first but then I realized it wasn't so easy and NOT because it suddenly changed forms or phases or something, it just kinda gradually sorta happened without me even noticing.
Like the video, I just finished Ys origins, actually it was harder than felgana, but on Ys games you just need to grind a bit and problem solved. Only one Ys to beat, IX. Too bad I cound't get it for switch or ps4, only for pc.
I definitely felt most versions of 1&2 were the hardest. I refuse to bother trying the PC copy above normal, too much NES era bullshit. I've beaten Oath in Felghana and Ark, of Napishtim, and Seven all on their hardest difficulites on PSP and PS2, and I'd say their ranking is still very good on your list aside from my feelings of 1&2. The PC version of Oath in Felghana (and Origins by extension, same game engine) are both much harder without the healing boost you can get in the Oath in Felghana PSP version. And Ys 6 has various modes, such as the PS2 version difficulty and a restricted healing item mode more like Oath in Felghana (again, seems to be same Oath in Felghana engine).
Seeing Ys oath in felgana on a video brings back that nightmare called Galbalan to my mind, truly fearsome foe, is the only boss I've struggled in the entire series, played it on psp and PC and it gave me a headache everytime, also Rip Chester, i liked him a lot...
Ys Origin was the first Ys I ever played, and as Yunica, no less. It's not easy, and not the best Ys game to get into the series with, but it's quite enjoyable regardless.
First and only Ys I've played is VIII. Currently 22 hours in, playing on Nightmare. It's pretty challenging but not really impossible or bullshit so it's felt pretty good so far. Very little grind needed too which is always great. Some bosses are annoying af though, particularly the poison ones.
Sadly I think you are mistaken about Ys 5 not being good. You should give it another go, I thoroughly enjoyed it and it has a great soundtrack as well.
I'd definitely agree with the party member games being easier, though I'm not sure how I'd rank them relative to each other. Between between healing items and party members none of them strike me as especially hard compared to Oath or Origin on Nightmare/Inferno. I played 8 most recently. and even with bosses that can 1 or 2 shot you, with all of the items available you can almost face-tank some bosses and just heal through it, instead of learning to fight the boss near-flawlessly like you'd have to in Oath or Origin. Oath was definitely the hardest. I ended up putting it on hold for so long that when I picked it up a few years later I had to replay the entire game to sharpen my skills enough to finish the thing on Inferno. There's very little room for error on all of those boss fights.
For Ys 8 you can also just spam Flash Guard since you can retrigger it during the FG window itself. So you can be invincible during the entire fight that way
I've only ever played Ys Origin on the Normal setting European on the Xbox Series X, so I've no idea if other regions are more difficult. I completed it first with Yunica and then with Hugo, I've still yet to play with the final character. I found some areas easier with Yunica and some areas easier with Hugo. I felt on normal it was a decent challenge, alittle grinding required for some bosses/areas but overall not too bad. I will return to try and complete it with the final character as I believe that's the true ending.
Ys 3 was the first Ys I played back on the SNES. I remember grinding like mad but eventually my brother and I made it through it(after spending enough money renting the game that we probably could have bought it....)
I hated Ys 3. I rented it, and remember beating it, BUT I must have gotten bored with grinding and found an invincibility code or something. I don't remember the story at all and just remember running and running until the game just kind of ended and left me in utter disappointment. Many years later I discovered Ys Origin and loved it, so I went back to the start. I played and loved Ys I-II on Turbo CD, then thought, ugh... Ys 3 again.... I played it on the Turbo CD this time..... and.... it was great! I guess I just didn't have patience for it as a kid.
Ok the first game I find that even on easy I can't beat the fight at the west gate seeing as I can't get my character past level 24 as I don't have any dlcs everything is pretty much done and I can't get past wave 5 I'm currently playing the one we're you are trapped on a island and I find it pretty good that one big guy who is using a anchor as a we@pon is awesome
I'm catching the drift that Ys is generally a tougher jrpg series than many others?? I'm only wondering because I'm just getting back into the genre pretty hardcore after being out of the loop for over a decade and I just bought most the Ys games as well as many other series from sword art online to star ocean to final fantasy, all the tales games, dragon quest, Sakura, neptunia, .hack, death end request 1 and 2 to standalones like scarlet nexus, caligula effect which now has a sequel I also bought as well as blue reflection 1 and 2... I mean a lot I literally JUST bought over the past few weeks and the Japanese sale for playstation a few weeks ago I bought out.. I spent thousands literally building a library and now have to decide where to start and was honest to God looking at the Ys games before I ever saw this video just because honestly they didn't look as exciting as a lot of others. But if they are tougher than so many others then I won't start here, sorry for the storybook ha, are they games super difficult???
I guess I’ve never had this issue when it comes to difficulty I’ve never played a ys game on less than hard mode so I always felt like I had a challenge
i played lacrimosa of dana and origin on nightmare my first time... oh boy such beautiful games, ys 6 was my very first ys game and i played it on hard... it was a NIGHTMARE!! but i finished it, i played ys 3 the oath in felghana on hard or nightmare cant remember, it was hella challenging but fun as well, i played a bit of ys 1 but couldnt get used to the bump mechanic, didnt like it so i never finished it and never touched 2
I guess you are right about the party ones being easier, but I quickly upped the difficulty to hardest and found nightmare to be fair for Ys IX. If you are judging it off normal, definitely, but if you crank it to the tougher difficulties... is it really??? I am really feeling the Ys series though, I'll crank up the difficulty on one of those solo ones, I'm curious now. Ys IX is pretty rough on the hardest difficulty, even nightmare is pretty tough.
For real though... my first Ys was the PSP versions (Napishtim, Felghanna, and Seven) in that order then the Ys 1 and 2 remakes and then Celceta up to Monstrum Nox... The older versions HARDER than the modern one's... It became easier in Ys Seven due to not only having party members but also having a wider arsenal of skills and because of that thing called "FLASH GUARD." Mastering Guard and Timed Dodges will make the game too easy for Ys vets unlike the old versions who didn't have that mechanic..
I really felt the difficult of OiF for sure. I got my Ass handed to me by bosses again and again on Normal. No idea how anyone could beat that on Nightmare omg.
Opinion is good and all but when people said the game is very easy in the easy mode so I had to change to normal, that's when I ROFL. I mean it's called easy mode it's supposed to be easy. If you want hard use the hard mode
who cares man, as long as I met an Ys fan it would be fun to get to know them. Too many discord types like being "bad ass" over literally nothing. Ys is niche as it is, don't divide it further with your petty nonsense.
@@B1az1ngSuN I wasn't being a bad ass and was not trying to divide anyone. I'm just saying, be more reasonable with what you are saying. Isn't Ys 5 kind of infamous for being the easiest game in the series, to the point where Falcom rereleased it with a higher difficulty a year later due to negative feedback? Also, the Turbo Grafx CD version of Ys 3 is actually pretty easy. Like, slap on the Power Ring and buzz-saw your way through the last boss in 30 seconds easy. It's just the SNES version that's stupid hard.
really wish older titles would come to modern consoles, like 7, i know there's lisensing reasons, but if origins can be ported to modern consoles, i can't see why the other games with that engine can't.
Origins is easy, just a question of grinding, I even didn't know you could upgrade your weapon and fast travel in the first playthrough, so my level was super high of grinding and going through all floors each time. Ys VIII is harder due to more tactics involved.
Shouldn't you have played all on hardest difficulty to decide a winner? I was the opposite of you in Origins, I was really bad with Hugo, but superb with Yuno. Loved her axe swings
Ys 1 should be separated from Ys 2, even if they are know released together. Ys 1 is by far harder than Ys 2, especially the last boss, the evil DVD logo, err I mean Dark Fact.
Played Ys 1 on hard, finished it. And I'll never play it again, some bosses including and especially the last are so bullshit haha I enjoy a challenge but there's a difference in balance and bullshit. If I ever do play it again I'll play on normal
Hard mode in Y's games are normal mode for all the Y's games featuring party members. Are you a causal or hardcore? It's seem like you are more of a causal when it comes to action genre. Don't be afraid to play an action game on hard mode because with some effort you can actually get good. Anyway, the reason why some Y's games with a playable party feel so easier because you put it on easy or normal mode not hard.
Ys 9 is quite easy Im like halfway through on hard mode and havent died once. This was on ps4. PC version seems the same difficulty wise, except the frame rate is way smoother
Ys II is much easier than Ys I because of magic. Also, I consider Ys I the most difficult because of a couple of bosses, especially the last boss. It felt completely unfair and not related to skill. I haven't played the ones with party members, don't really feel the same.
Can really tell you love Ys with these videos lately... Can't blame you though, one of the best series ever made tbh.

I feel like a stud now for beating “Y’s: The Oath in Felghana” on Normal mode!
Great lineup!
The ability to recover hp super fast in ys 9 with the r1+L1 thing made it impossible to die
Have you had a chance to play Ys IV PC engine CD version? Theres an english translation out for it
Excellent video.
Totally agree, getting 100% achievements in Steam version of Ys Oath in Felghana was really hard, but also so satisfying at the end
What are the games in your opening theme song
IX looks like a slide show presentation. Celceta secret boss hard as all hell.
Just curious, how come you don't pick games up on release day? Is it harder to get games in Mexico then in most places?
Game prices compared to income is bad in Mexico. It's not awful like in some other SA countries but still kinda expensive, that's why piracy was so common before. As far as I'm aware newer consoles are harder to pirate on so I don't really see that anymore but still, it's always better to wait til price drops or sales. I play on PC which at least has regional oricing.
@@Walamonga1313 I see. Thanks for the insight
About Ys 8, i think the difficult is in nightmare mode, when you have to kill 3 dinosaurs in Dana's past
Can ya do another top srpg video? For portable and console? 🙏🙏🙏
I just cannot beat Dalles' final form on hard using Yunica. I can barely get close to him, let alone dodging that huge energy beam and those traps.
Y's VIII on hard mode is actually a real challenge.
I don't know if it was just me but I found that flash guard/dodge was a little harder to pull off on celceta. Maybe its because I was playing on a vita instead of a faster console though, I dunno.
@@Ghalion666 Well I believe the Vita version runs at 30fps as opposed to 60 on other versions, so could be it.
Completed Oath in Felghana on nightmare difficulty felt like a huge achievement. But i started out on Ys 6 and even managed to defeat the hidden boss.
question, would the ds version of 1+2 be good? that's the one i'm wanting, but we'll see.
I only played the ps4 version of ys9, and yes, it's Yeasy...both normal and hard modes, I got S ranks in all the Nox missions, except 1.
the ants were a pain in ys 1, also what remake had u use ur sword attack
I really wish they would bring most of these to modern consoles maybe even make a collection.
Please what's the name of game at 0:33
It's Cosmic Star Heroine. It's on Steam.
@@DeCendres thanks a lot
@@Kaitou1412Fangirl yeah he washed me too. I got caught lackin
@@Walamonga1313 dope let us know how it goes
Like the video, I just finished Ys origins, actually it was harder than felgana, but on Ys games you just need to grind a bit and problem solved.
Only one Ys to beat, IX. Too bad I cound't get it for switch or ps4, only for pc.
Too bad you can't grind your way to beating Nightmare Boss Rush. That's the one challenge I have yet complete in Ys Origin
What!? I've only played Ys chronicles(1 and 2), but only the final boss from the first game was really hard.
You should give it another go, I thoroughly enjoyed it and it has a great soundtrack as well.
oh huh, YS III for SNES was the first and only YS I ever played
So you can be invincible during the entire fight that way
Ys 6 is my first experience, oh man.
Ys VI my fave.
Ys V for ps2 is easy. only 2 bosses are difficult to beat.
3rd character is the canon story yes.
@@Ghalion666 I believe so, I yet to play through it yet though.
Ysiest to Hardest
i played lacrimosa of dana and origin on nightmare my first time... oh boy such beautiful games, ys 6 was my very first ys game and i played it on hard... it was a NIGHTMARE!! but i finished it, i played ys 3 the oath in felghana on hard or nightmare cant remember, it was hella challenging but fun as well, i played a bit of ys 1 but couldnt get used to the bump mechanic, didnt like it so i never finished it and never touched 2
Try Ys Memories of Celceta on nightmare from start to finish its pretty difficult you die in two hits.
Easy mode is supposed to be easy, so why complain about it being easy when you are playing the easy mode? It's like, I wanted to play a classic Mario Bros game then you complain about the 8 bit graphic, does that make any sense to you?

Erick, can you read minds? I was playing YS VIII last night!
6 was the 1st one I beat lol the newer ones are cool but very easy for me
Origins is easy, just a question of grinding, I even didn't know you could upgrade your weapon and fast travel in the first playthrough, so my level was super high of grinding and going through all floors each time. Ys VIII is harder due to more tactics involved.
I find ark of napishtism is way harder oath in felghana cause napishtism has a very niche control.
Shouldn't you have played all on hardest difficulty to decide a winner? I was the opposite of you in Origins, I was really bad with Hugo, but superb with Yuno. Loved her axe swings
He explained many times he does not like hard games. Would probably never finish them on hardest.
With ys 9, I played ps4, and it was a little easy, 8 is still my favourite, though I've only played the ones on ps4
I thought origin and nipishtim were pretty easy even on hard, felgaha is another beast altogether though.
I didn't see the PC Engine or SNES versions of Ys IV mentioned. Those aren't so easy.
hardest boss in the whole series was Dark Fact on the steam version... that must have take me around 60 tries lol
