When a series excels in it's music, you just need to recognise it. EDIT - Thanks to a very observant viewer, seems I put the wrong composer for a few songs. That's what I get for rushing before going out for a Saturday night! Genesis Beyond the Beginning - Takeshita and Jindo Scars of the Divine Wing - Sonoda, Unisuga, Takeshita Lacrimosa of Dana - Jindo
Not to be rude but Scars of The Divine Wing is just Takeshita and it might be worth noting that Ernest and Quatera woods are both arranged by Jindo, although they are composed by Ishibishi and Hattori respectively. Anyways I appreciate you naming the composers by track, they deserve to be more recognized. Great video!
Also, Guidance of a White Tower is just Sonoda and Silent Desert is just Unisuga. Apologies for being anal about it, just wanna be informative for anyone who looks through the comments.
If you look up Sunshine Coastline the views are insane, I'm convinced that song is almost more popular than YS itself, truly the best song in the best ost of all time.
To Make An End to Battle is probably my favorite from Ys 1+2 Chronicles, absolutely legendary. I'm glad you reminded me of tracks from Celceta and Seven since I couldn't remember any of the music from those games lol. Oath in Felghana is one of my favorite Ys soundtracks, I'm a big fan of The Boy Who Had Wings. I've always loved how VI's music sounds so distinct to other games in the series, it just has it's own sound and vibe to it.
I'm really new to YS, but I love their OSTs. From what I've heard, these are my favorites YS 1 and 2: Dreaming YS Memories of Celceta: Ancient Land YS Seven: Crossing Rage YS VIII: Sunshine Coastline (it got me into YS, so it's a no-brainer) YS IX: Tranquil Silence/ Cloaca Maxima
Yeah, i do agree that Ys Seven had the best Soundtrack, and just as good as Ys the Oath in Felghana. That is before i played Ys VIII. But honestly, Ys Seven and Ys the Oath in Felghana is still my top 3 Ys games on soundtracks till this day
aw, i wished i found this video much earlier just to get pumped by the epic falcom muziek, but seeing your epic taste like sharing my favourite tune of origin and oath in felghana valestein castle is easily my favourite tune from the whole ys series
As I just started the Ys series for the first time, I'm looking forward to hearing all of these. I just finished Origin and Ys I, and I'm working on Ys II now.
Overcome the Rocky Path and Sunshine Coastline are my absolute favorite from Ys 8. Love them! For Ys 6, Quatera Woods is definitely my favorite there, but I think the human village theme, Reconciled People, is my favorite village theme in any RPG game. For Ys 9, it's definitely Norse Wind. That one feels very "Ys 8" to me.
Ys origin was my first in the series as well. Yesterday! I got 30 minutes in and was underwhelmed. But during the opening cutscene I was punching the air during the music. I fell in love with Ys 1 a few hours later and I’m hooked now. So I’ll go back to origins with a different eye.
As much as I like Sunshine Coastline and how it sounds like something from an old arcade game in the best way... the opening version of Lacrimosa of Dana is just one of the best pieces of music I've ever PERIOD. Special mention to Eroded Valley, The Sibylline Road, and One Dream, One Reality.
im not gonna name songs from each Ys, cause everyone has their own opinions on that, but Kiseki Nut, I highly implore you to check out PC Engine CD/Turbografx Ys 1+2, Wanderers from Ys, Dawn of Ys (4)
Mine are probably: Ys Origin: So many to pick from, but probably Scars of the Divine Wing. Ys 1: First Steps Towards War, no question. Though Fountain of Love is also super great. Darm Tower probably in third place. OST overall is amazing. Ys 2: One of the weaker OSTs in general imo, genuinely can't think of anything off the top of my head. Ys 4/Celceta: Burning Sword, I guess. Both epic and chill at the same time. The Great Forest of Celceta probably in second place. Overall my second favourite OST in the franchise tbh. Ys 3/Oath: Yeah I agree with you on this one, I like its OST, but definitely one of the ones I come back to the least. Don't really have a favourite here, I like too many equally. Ys 5: In the Cradle and Peace in the Street are tied for me. They're both amazing! Wouldn't say the weakest OST in the series personally, but it's definitely not top 5 tier or anything. Ys 8: WHOA hold on, this game has YOUR favourite OST in any game ever too!? I'm genuinely serious, same here. I could just go ahead and say everything is number 1 here but... A-Z (literally the best boss theme I've ever heard), Lacrimosa of Dana (Opening Ver) and Everlasting Transeunt (gets me emotional everytime) hit me so hard everytime. The opening version of theme especially is severely underrated imo. Ys 6: Underrated OST imo. Favourite is between Quatera Woods and Ruins of Amnesia (they're both really chill). Ys 7: Not my favourite overall OST in the series but... Lost Harmony Among the People is my favourite Ys tune of all time. Don't ask why, I just find it perfect chill/emotional. Vacant Interface is probably number two. Ys 9: Definitely a way better OST than people give it credit for imo. Idk about it being in my top 5 for the series but... yeah. My favourites would be Heart Beat Shaker (I'd legit sit around in Time Attack sometimes just to listen to this lol), Cloaca Maxima, Glessing Way, Aprillis, Bar Dandelion, Marionette, Marionette, and probably my favourite one, "Dance with Traps" (idk, I'd always bop to this one when playing as Prison Adol). Respectable list though; nice vid!
So many great tracks throughout the series. It's great that when some of the tracks play, I can picture the area in the game that it plays. Ys 3, 6, 8 have some of my favorite tracks and most of my favorites are the calm ones where you're just walking in the villages & towns. I love the upbeat tracks during combat but I tend to enjoy the calmer tracks more. Thanks for the great video and looking forward to the Trails one!
Was suprising not to see Solomon Shrine or Ys II at all really. Wouldn't mind know what your favorite from that game is cause for Chronicles it sounded like it was only Ys I.
Favorite Ys music. I only played VII and VIII and it's already hard to make a list. Honestly, it's been years since an Anime/Game song gave me goosebumps but Ys is giving me them constantly.
interesting choices! my favourites are: ys origin: scars of the divine wing, beyond the beginning, termination, silent desert ys 1: final battle, palace of destruction, first step towards war ys 2: ice ridge of noltia, battle ground, palace of salmon, to make the end of battle, over drive ys memories of celceta: black wing, burning sword, land of the age of gods ys oath in felghana: valestein castle, the strongest enemy ys v: (unfortunately, i never played it) ys lacrimosa of dana: next step towards the unknown, a-to-z, gens d'armes, iclucian dance ys ark of napishtim: ernst ys seven: scias. vacant interference, innocent primeval breaker ys monstrum nox: cloaca maxima, strategic zone, marionette marionette, the cave of groan. dreaming in the grimwald, norse wind
Just saw this video and I think that's a really good choice of every most beautiful songs in every Ys. My favourite of all times and probably of every Ys is "The Cave of Groan" from YS IX along with "You'll See Out the End of the Tales" (the final dungeon's theme) from Ys VIII
that and "The Valley of the Kings" are probably my 2 personal favorites, not only for how good they are, but as for how fitting they are for the atmosphere that they play in. Ys 8 was perfect at putting the right song to fit the right environment
Ys Origin: Aside from all the musics you mentioned (which I'm totally agreed), I recommend Scarlet Tempest; especially the arranged version (you can find it from Falcom's official channel). It's an absolute banger. Ys I & II: My favourite is still First Step Toward the War. Ys III: Castle Valestein is probably the easiest choice here. Ys V: Haven't played the game yet Ys VIII: Another easy choice here. Sunshine Coastline might be one of the most liked Ys song of all time (along with Valestein). Ys VI: Release of The Far East Ocean is also my favourite. BTW. I found it hilarious how, just right after Adol survived from the Seiren, he got another shipwreck and landed in Cannan lol (not technically a shipwreck but I think you know what I mean). Ys VII: Yeah, it's one of my least favourite because the party system wasn't fully balanced yet, I believe. I found this game is one of the easiest Ys game I've ever played. For the song, my favourite is Innocent Primeval Breaker. Ys IX: Again, haven't played the game yet. Kiseki: Where About of The Stars, Silver Will, Golden Wings and A Cat Relaxing in the Sun are easily my top pick.
Ys is one of them games that even if you never played one.. you still know that they have one of the best soundtracks in jrpg history. Currently on my 2nd ys game. I'm playing them backwards from ys 9 lol
Nice video! Always nice to see focus on the incredible music Falcom has produced over the years. I’d be interested to know what track you would pick from Ys II if you were to separate it from Ys I? My personal favourites vary over time, but for now I’d go with: Origin: Genesis Beyond the Beginning / runner up: Silent Desert I: Palace of Destruction / runner up: Dreaming II: Ice Ridge of Noltia / runner up: Termination Celceta: In the Morning of After Rain / runner up: Crater Felghana: Valestein Castle / runner up: Be Careful V: Break into Territory / runner up: Field of Gale VIII: Sunshine Coastline / runner up: A-to-Z VI: Ultramarine Deep / runner up: Quatera Woods VII: Innocent Primeval Breaker / runner up: Vacant Interference IX: In Profile, on Belfry / runner up: Desert After Tears
Everything was perfect. The only thing I was surprised about not hearing on Ys 9 list was dreaming in the Grimwald. That's a personal favorite of mine. Otherwise wonderful video. I cannot wait for the legend of heroes video.
The OST for Ys VIII is my favorite for pretty much any game as well! Truthfully I don't think there's any game where I enjoyed every single song from the OST except for this one. I first played the game at the beginning of 2020 but I did another playthrough to 100% completion earlier this year to prepare for Ys IX. Goodness the music is already so nostalgic! Deadly temptation and sunshine coastline are my favorites!
Every song you chose is right. Every honorable mention would be right too. lol Now how about favorites from the Super Ultimate arrangements? That's the great thing about Falcom is that they will give you a great soundtrack and then put them in a totally new context with a whole other album! I LOVE Sunshine Coastline's Super Ultimate version. It's almost even underrated and overlooked in all honestly. I can appreciate both versions for different reasons. Jindo's arrangement on Unisuga's track just adds an extra layer of drama with the chord stabs leading into the verse. The Electric Wind instrument as the lead melody line is so light and sparkly. Stratospheric guitar harmonies divining the starts of new sections. The guitar and EWI solos trading. It breathes more, more dynamics playing with loud and quiet sections. it'd be one that I'd love to hear live at a show with the lights, and spectacle, a girl's hand to hold. The whole nine yards. A comment on the Falcom music channel described it as "Starlight Shoreline" which is an apt description to me.
Some other amazing songs: 1. Ys 8: Next Step Toward the Unknown; Gens d'Armes; A Footprint in the Wet Sand 2. Ys 9: Marionette, Marionette; Norse Wind; Desert After Tears
YS VI definitely has a good OST but anytime I think of it I'll always just remember having trouble executing that stupid long jump lol. Oh and Sunshine Coastline from VIII is *definitely* a banger.
Some great choices there (I mean, we can't go wrong with Ys music, right?) :D! And ofc, Master TKN, I would love to see one too for the Trails series ;-). I would also be very hyped and happy if I could attend one of JDK's concert someday \o/.
I was listening to some music from FFX and Sunshine Coastline was in my recommendations. That track was so good I promptly downloaded Ys 8. It will be my first time playing this series so I'm interested in what the game has to offer
While i respect your opinion, i must say that first, Felghana has the best sountrack in the series, at least for me. Seal of time, Valestin castle, The strongest foe, Be careful, The boy who had wings and more. I just love the more darker instrumentation that Jindo decided to go with. As for 6, Ernst is the best for me, and for Lacrimosa of dana... it has to be Next step towards the unknown. And as for 9, i'm torn apart between Glessing way and Cloaca Maxima. What can i say, Jindo is my favorite composer in falcom. (i know he didn't compose Ernst, but still, i wanted to make that clear.)
Yeah I appreciate that. I know that a lot of people love Oath's soundtrack, and yes I think it's good. It's just compared to the vast majority of Ys games it comes up short in my opinion despite having one of my top 3 tracks of the entire series.
@@TheKisekiNut As i said, that's respectable. For me, i think my least favorite is either 6 or 9. They have a great soundtrack and i don't mind Singa's compositions MOST of the time, but 6 sounds a little bit too old for my liking, and ys 9 had a lot of averge tracks. However with that said, i love all of them and each sountrack is at least different. As for Ys 5... no. I don't like old music like that. As for your other choices, i kinda agree with them, although in ys 7, Desert Of Despair and "The New strongest foe"(you know why i call it that) are a strong contenders for Innocent Primeval Breaker. With Celceta, origin and chronicles, i do agree with your choices.
Ys music is so freaking good! I love your selection a lot! However, about Ys V remake (16:06): I thought there is an Ys V remake for the PS2 made by Taito but was only released in Japan, and it’s a very expensive one as well. I know for a fact that Game Sack covered it on their Ys Series video from years ago. Why does people usually doesn’t know about that remake? Maybe because it’s done by Taito and not directly by Falcom?
I think it's mainly the fact that a lot of people in the West don't even know about the original Ys V, so the Taito remake doesn't even get a sniff. It's a niche within a niche.
@@TheKisekiNut oh yeah, I absolutely agree with you. I just wonder if you can find improved and acceptable renditions of your Ys V soundtrack picks within that Taito Ys V remake. Anyways, I love the video! Keep up the good work!!
Fantastic list. I don't necessarily agree with all of your placements, but even still, amazing choices. My only main points of contention were that I might have put some of your HMs from 1&2 over your pick, and I'll quibble with 8 just because even though there's a ton to be said about a strong "the adventure begins" opener like First Step Toward War or Sunshine Coastline that grab you immediately after entering the first combat area, I'm an absurd sucker for endgame tracks where part of it is an energized reprise of a sad/somber/beautiful title theme (which both You'll See out The End Of The Tales and Theos de Endegram did). For many of your entries, though, I already knew the tracks by heart as soon as they started playing, so I couldn't sanely disagree with them.
There is nothing like Ys soundtracks out there. The compositions of many of these songs is just amazing. I'm still a bit shocked that even with the fast gameplay and great experiences wrapped inside of Ys that this series is not vastly more popular in the west. Falcom, you deserve the praise for these musical scores. I would add that I'm a bit surprised not to see Burning Sword appear here. That opening is just astonishing. Thanks TKN!
Still playing through this series, but I can comment on the ones from the games that I've heard the soundtracks for! Origin: Genesis Beyond the Beginning (with an honorable mention to Over Drive, both the normal version and the SAV) 1&2: Tension (Chronicles version) OiF: Valestein Castle (my second favorite song in the series) MoC: I played the first couple dungeons of this one about a year ago on my Vita and don't remember much of the soundtrack, with one exception: the OP song. (I think it was called like Foilage Ocean of Celceta or something?) 7: Haven't played very far into this one yet, I was going to play it but after the first boss kicked my ass, I put it down and decided to play 8 instead (though I'm absolutely planning on coming back to it, just gotta finish working my way through Origin and 1&2 first). That being said, I really like Mother Earth Altago 8: oh God. There are way too many choices here, but I'm gonna have to go with Sunshine Coastline while giving A-to-Z an honorable mention. Though really the entire soundtrack could get an honorable mention
can you also make a vid of the top songs from the game mana khemia alchemists of al-revis? that game had a lot of good osts, and also I just realized after all these years I never knew it was an atelier game absolutely one of my fave jrpgs from the psp era together with Ys 7.
What's this, a video about the very thing that brought me into Ys and into Falcom as a whole? Let's gooooo!!!! I have mostly the same opinions with some divergences Ys Origin: Genesis Beyond the Beginning. The same, plainly and simply the same in all its glory and to this day this is still my favorite track in the entire series. And hearing it in a final push near the end of the game to give me an adrenaline boost to put an end to a journey is pure bliss, FORWARD RELENTESSLY!!!!!!!! Ys 1&2: Also Palace of Destruction. BUT more importantly the PC-Engine version from Turbografx-16 I played on Wii virtual console. Up until that song every other track has been a banger, but that rendition of Palace of Destruction made me turn from simply loving the soundtrack to becoming lustful for more. Ys: Memories of Celceta: The False God of Causality. Not gonna lie, for me Memories of Celceta is the one game where I consider the soundtrack to be at its weakest but it might be a bias from me seeing as most of its songs are remakes of their older versions and I just like the retro ones better so I tend to prefer the brand new tracks and this one is my personal pick. BUT if we consider the older versions of that game too, then The False God of Causality loses out to Temple of the Sun, very closely followed by The Great Ordeal which neither did get a remake here. Ys: The Oath in Felghana: Sealed Time. So many other tracks I could have picked too, including some non mentionned here like Boy's got Wings, Believe in My Heart or Omen =Styx= but that rush of adrenaline as I make the final climb to stop a horrible mistake from being made is still my highlight of this game. Ys V: Kefin, the Lost Kingdom of Sand: Nothing to say here, didn't listen to the soundtrack, just hoping for a proper remake one day. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana: Everlasting Transeun. I fell in absolute love with the game's main theme from my first time listening to it and despite loving almost every single track in the game that followed, I just never felt they could beat that pure orchestral piece, until Everlasting Transeun after finishing the game which gave me a new rendition of that very song. If Ys Origin was the best intro, then Ys VIII is the best ending to me. Ys VI: Ark of Napishtim: Quatera Woods. I don't think there is anything I can add here that hasn't been said. Ys Seven:.............I can't pick between the 2 so here goes - Desert of Despair and Isolated Island Consigned to Oblivion. Desert of Despair is simply a pure banger and I get hyped everytime I hear it and Isolated Island Consigned to Oblivion is a song I love and feel gets overlooked by many others but gives me such goosebumps every time I reach that place in the game. Ys IX: Monstrum Nox: Cloaca Maxima........would have been it until I broke into the final dungeon of the game for Strategic Zone. Much like with VIII I just love epic orchestral pieces so when I started hearing it I was pumped the hell up to give this game the final push, FOORWAAAARD RELENTESSLYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If we account for tracks from cover albums though....Oof, idk what the limit for a UA-cam Comment character count is but it would be challenged that's for sure so without any words to describe them I'd mention at least a few (based on the ones available on Spotify): Lillia (From ys II) - Falcom Vocal Collections 1 Endless History (From Ys) - Falcom Vocal Collections 1 You Are the Only One (From Ys: See You Again) - Falcom Vocal Special J.D.K. While I love all the Ys music, I'm pretty fond of the DS versions for Ys I & II. That was my first introduction to Falcom, and I still have the music CD that came with it. It's pretty interesting how many versions those two games got.
Looking for advise: I am a Trails fan and will play CS4 in a few days but generally, I am a turn-based games fan (which is how I got to Trails). I love TBG because I have cerebral palsy and my hand control is not that good though I have played first-person shooting when I was younger. The Black Friday sale hit Steam and I got into a buying spree (lol). I bought majority of the Ys games (I think I am only missing 2 games). I installed Origin and as much as I enjoy it, when it comes to boss fights, I am having a hard time. I have not yet defeated Epona (lol). I am currently playing in Normal mode. If I play in Very Easy mode, will I be missing something? Are all Ys games this "hard" or is Origin a bit "hard" from the get go. Any response will be appreciated. Thanks.
Origin, and Felghana, can be pretty unforgiving. Especially during bosses because you have no access to healing. I’d say have at it! But as for general tips be sure to keep your equipment upgraded, both your weapon and your current armour (which can be upgraded at save statues), and don’t be afraid to gain a level or two if you find yourself stuck. Individual levels can make a HUGE difference in early Ys-games.
Turning the difficulty down will make it so you deal more damage and take less damage Everything else will remain the same. So feel free to play on Very Easy if needed. As for the overall difficulty of Ys games, I would say the games have gotten progressively easier from Oath in Felghana onwards.
Great vid as always and congratulations, you've got an excellent taste sir. Hopefully the next Ys title will have an opening with a kickass song like Origin, VI or VII again. VIII is my favourite Ys game and it has probably my favourite soundtrack, but the opening lacks a bit when it comes to Ys openings.
Yeah the Ys VIII opening is a bit lacking compared to others. But it makes up for that with solid quality everywhere else, including in the rest of it's OST. Can't all be perfect!
Im about to finish my playthrough of Ys 1+2 right now, my pick for a favorite song up to now is Dreaming, from the mirror mazes at the tower, it has such a great sound (the pc-88 version was the best one imo). As Im about to go play Ys Origin next, I am expecting more great songs going forwards.
Aww, man. "To Make the End of Battle' only got an honorable mention? To me, it's not only the best of Ys I/II, but the best track in the series. Maybe some nostalgia bias.
Ys music is so awesome, it's almost like if Yngwie Malmsteen wrote music for a video game series. How can you not be pumped when hearing such sick neoclassical power metal as you explore the world and fight monsters? Surprised to hear that Felghana has one of the weakest OSTs for you, it's one of my personal faves, but to each their own and all that! Also wholeheartedly agree on your Ys Seven opinion. It's one of my faves in the series. Here's some of my fave tracks (Can't just choose one per game either because there's so many great pieces) Ys: Origin: Silent Desert, Genesis Beyond the Beginning, Termination Ys I & II: First Step Towards War, Ruins of Moondoria, Palace of Destruction Ys Oath in Felghana: Valestein Castle, A Searing Struggle, Believe in My Heart Ys Memories of Celceta: Iris, Tower of Providence ~ A Kiss for Eldeel, The Morning After the Storm Ys V Kefin: (I Actually haven't played V yet, it's the only Ys game I haven't played) Ys VI Ark of Napishtim: Ernst, Mighty Obstacle, Quatera Woods Ys Seven: Innocent Primeval Breaker, Vacant Interference, Scias Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana: Sunshine Coastline, Iclucian Dance, Lacrimosa of Dana Ys IX Monstrum Nox: Aprilis, Desert After Tears, Crossing A/A Even with a list as stacked as this I still feel like I left out so many amazing pieces because that's just how great Falcom Sound Team JDK are! P.S. While Dandelion's Journey might not be a personal fave of mine, I will say I cried the first time I heard that song because the ending of Ys IX was just so emotional, especially after playing all the other Ys games leading up to it.
very nice video, question tho. are you also planning to do a video on boss fight theme from the y's and trails series. as myself do I listen mostly to those tracks because they make me hyped up or explain the story of who-ever you are fighting think of "a beautiful song" in nier-automata that tells the stroy of simone relation to jean paul. just a question tho, but i thought i'll ask on this kind of video. looking forward to you trails choices tho and keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching bro. I don't know, maybe I might do that but in a different format, but at the moment there's not really anything in the pipeline for a video in that vein.
I would love to get your take on "Tales of Arise" and their music this time around. At total "Ys" with that track from Ys V? Total ease? Ys? Nice pun :D
@@RaifSeverence, depends on individual taste, they're all good but I personally resonate with Night Survivor more. Good thing there's a little something for everyone there.
Dammit, bad time to watch this video. Made me want to continue playing Monstrum Nox... 2am is not a good hour to play for a "little while" ( translation: 1 or 2 hrs).
Great vid and great choices. But you got some credits wrong: Ys Origin: Scars of the Divine Wing and Genesis Beyond the Beginning were composed by the amazing Ryo Takeshita. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (opening version) was composed by Jindo. I love your videos, keep up the great work!
Woops, not my intention I assure you. Thanks for pointing that out - though i think I just left Takeshita out on Scars of the Divine Wing. I think both Sonoda and Unisuga were involved in that one too. I think I was just in a rush when I did the video last night as I was going out later on (quite easy to miss some of these with so many songs). Nonetheless, appreciated!
oh, didn't know you never played the first 2 games until now. still I'm surprised you didn't even mention the bit of music that became the splash screen soundtrack for years.
Opinions and all that - it never really stood out to me compared to the ones I chose for the games. Not an insult against the song itself, but I can only listen to my what my ears and brain tell me!
@@TheKisekiNut lol, I never said you're insulting anything:) To me though, that bit of soundtrack was pretty much equal to the entirety of the Ys series. That's why I got kind of pissed when they removed it from the splash screen on Ys 9. Thinking about it I am pretty sure I rambled about that on your Ys 9 video too. Sorry, I didn't know you had no context at the time. Love your videos:) There aren't that many people who make so many around Falcom's products. Hope you can keep it up.
Do you mean more than a passing mention, or that he didn't call more attention to that fact? Because he DID list Feena in the honorable mentions for Ys1 and 2
My Top YS songs that i like : ▷ 「INNOCENT PRIMEVAL BREAKER」- YS Seven ( My TOP 1 fave ever whether Short or Long version ) ▷ 「Vacant Interference」- YS Seven ▷ 「Release Of The Far Away Ocean」- YS VI ▷ 「D.A.Y/BREAK」- YS vs. Trails in the Sky : Alternative Saga ▷ 「Ernst」( whether YS VI ver or YS and Trails ver ) - YS VI ▷ 「Final Battle」- YS I&II Chronicles ▷ 「To Make It Battle To The End」( whether long or short ) - YS I&II Chronicles ▷ 「Mother Earth Altago」( Field Theme ) - YS Seven can you guys suggest more songs thanks :D
Good choices, but mine are a bit different: Origin: same I & II Chronicles: Palace (Not Palace of Salmon) with Over Drive coming in as a close second. Celceta: The Foliage Ocean in CELCETA - no contest, this is probably my all time favorite alongside Innocent Primeval Breaker, both of which still give me the shivers. Felghana: Shock of the Death God - I very much disagree with you, I think Felghana has one of the most consistently amazing OSTs in the series. Lacrimosa: same - but honestly the whole OST is a masterpiece with no bad songs. Napishtim: either Mighty Obstacle or Ultramarine Deep Seven: same - no contest Monstrum: honestly not one song stood out enough to be called my favorite. They are all good, just not uniquely great
Ehhh... where are the tracks from Ys Book 1 & 2, Ys 4 Dawn of Ys, Mask of the Sun and Wanderers of Ys aka Ys 3 from the 90s? Feels incomplete that list.
I know it's opinions and all, but it just feels weird to mention the best songs in Ys without mentioning Mighty Obstacle and Gens D'Armes. Otherwise, excellent, excellent choices.
You're forgetting about Illburns Ruins from Ys 3. The Oath in Felghana version isn't as good as the other versions. Also, Woods of Elevated Coral Reefs is my favorite Ys VIII song. ua-cam.com/video/zeMGwkBqoWk/v-deo.html
Given that it doesn't appear in the game itself, I can't blame you for not mentioning it, but Innocent Primeval Breaker has a voiced remix that's arguably even better, though it's called Rush Out and I believe it can be heard in Ys vs Kiseki. Listen to it below: ua-cam.com/video/efE125rCs1M/v-deo.html
@@RaifSeverence Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There Life Will Change Last Suprise Beneath the Mask The Whims of Fate Rivers in the Desert Take Over Not to mention all the great Jazz numbers. Name me another game that has like lyrical songs for half the ost. If that’s not a dedication to quality I don’t know what is. Your rebutle will come off as unbelievable no matter how you try to explain it. The idea of Ys 8 having a better soundtrack is just objectively incorrect.
@@Pimpgamer101opnions exist and music taste is subjective. If you love purse owner 5 so much to the point of saying other people's opnion are wrong, why don't you get the fuck out and go play it?
When a series excels in it's music, you just need to recognise it.
EDIT - Thanks to a very observant viewer, seems I put the wrong composer for a few songs. That's what I get for rushing before going out for a Saturday night!
Genesis Beyond the Beginning - Takeshita and Jindo
Scars of the Divine Wing - Sonoda, Unisuga, Takeshita
Lacrimosa of Dana - Jindo
From lacrimosa to me the best soundtrack is either on the octus path or the dana dungeons
I would LOVE a trails one. I think I recall us once talking about how amazing the Ordis theme is. But again, there's just so many to pick from there.
Yes please! :)
From what I've heard, these are my favorites
YS 1 and 2: Dreaming
YS Memories of Celceta: Ancient Land
YS Seven: Crossing Rage
YS VIII: Sunshine Coastline (it got me into YS, so it's a no-brainer)
YS IX: Tranquil Silence/ Cloaca Maxima
Ys 7 holds a soft spot in my heart, without it I never would have got into the ys series and never played the trails series
Ys seven without a doubt has best Music's, and the intro too soo good it has always special place on my heart my childhood!❤️
Yeah, i do agree that Ys Seven had the best Soundtrack, and just as good as Ys the Oath in Felghana.
That is before i played Ys VIII.
But honestly, Ys Seven and Ys the Oath in Felghana is still my top 3 Ys games on soundtracks till this day
aw, i wished i found this video much earlier
just to get pumped by the epic falcom muziek, but seeing your epic taste like sharing my favourite tune of origin and oath in felghana
valestein castle is easily my favourite tune from the whole ys series
As I just started the Ys series for the first time, I'm looking forward to hearing all of these. I just finished Origin and Ys I, and I'm working on Ys II now.
There are so many great tracks in the YS series. I'm so glad most of it is on Spotify, so i can listen to it whenever i feel like it
Overcome the Rocky Path and Sunshine Coastline are my absolute favorite from Ys 8. Love them!
For Ys 6, Quatera Woods is definitely my favorite there, but I think the human village theme, Reconciled People, is my favorite village theme in any RPG game.
For Ys 9, it's definitely Norse Wind. That one feels very "Ys 8" to me.
Palace of destruction is one of the best tracks in the whole series. Made me a fan as a kid and never looked back
Ys origin was my first in the series as well.
Excellent choices on ur fav pieces for each game especially in Ys 8 Sunshine Coastline
Mine are probably:
Ys Origin: So many to pick from, but probably Scars of the Divine Wing.
Ys 2 has 'To Make The End of Battle' which is one of the best Falcom songs ever imo!
This is the perfect comment
I would like to congratulate you...
on your EXCELLENT taste!
Glad Sunshine Coastline made the cut! I love that song and play it every time I work out!
I've only played the first two on psp, as well as Origin on pc, and the music absolutely rocks.
Play the rest, they're all top tier games.
I've barely seen anyone mention it, but imo my fav ost in any Ys game is Gendarmes
My god is it awesome
Favorite Ys music. I only played VII and VIII and it's already hard to make a list. Honestly, it's been years since an Anime/Game song gave me goosebumps but Ys is giving me them constantly.
Would love see this for other series like persona , artelier , etc . Great video
Might do one for Atelier when I've played more of the games. I'm only on my fifth one so far, but the OST for every game has been killer.
Excellent choices all around! I need to give some of them another listen as I hadn't remembered them clearly until this video.
interesting choices!
my favourites are:
ys origin: scars of the divine wing, beyond the beginning, termination, silent desert
ys 1: final battle, palace of destruction, first step towards war
ys 2: ice ridge of noltia, battle ground, palace of salmon, to make the end of battle, over drive
ys memories of celceta: black wing, burning sword, land of the age of gods
ys oath in felghana: valestein castle, the strongest enemy
ys v: (unfortunately, i never played it)
ys lacrimosa of dana: next step towards the unknown, a-to-z, gens d'armes, iclucian dance
ys ark of napishtim: ernst
ys seven: scias. vacant interference, innocent primeval breaker
ys monstrum nox: cloaca maxima, strategic zone, marionette marionette, the cave of groan. dreaming in the grimwald, norse wind
Just saw this video and I think that's a really good choice of every most beautiful songs in every Ys. My favourite of all times and probably of every Ys is "The Cave of Groan" from YS IX along with "You'll See Out the End of the Tales" (the final dungeon's theme) from Ys VIII
To me the perfect song from the entire series is from the last dungeon in Ys 8, ''Vanishing Trail''
that and "The Valley of the Kings" are probably my 2 personal favorites, not only for how good they are, but as for how fitting they are for the atmosphere that they play in. Ys 8 was perfect at putting the right song to fit the right environment
@@jmo003 ys 8 was perfect yes
Yeah, Vanishing Trail is definitely high up on my list of favorites from Ys 8.
Ys V: Haven't played the game yet
Ys VIII: Another easy choice here.
Great selection man!
I've yet to play all the Ys titles , but plan to start a chronologic run soon. Really looking forward to the Trails selection!
this man did gens d'armes dirty by not even putting it in the honorable mentions
I'd forgotten about Overcome the Rocky Path. What a tune!
My personal favourites vary over time, but for now I’d go with:
Origin: Genesis Beyond the Beginning / runner up: Silent Desert
I: Palace of Destruction / runner up: Dreaming
II: Ice Ridge of Noltia / runner up: Termination
Celceta: In the Morning of After Rain / runner up: Crater
Felghana: Valestein Castle / runner up: Be Careful
V: Break into Territory / runner up: Field of Gale
VIII: Sunshine Coastline / runner up: A-to-Z
VI: Ultramarine Deep / runner up: Quatera Woods
VII: Innocent Primeval Breaker / runner up: Vacant Interference
IX: In Profile, on Belfry / runner up: Desert After Tears
Everything was perfect. The only thing I was surprised about not hearing on Ys 9 list was dreaming in the Grimwald. That's a personal favorite of mine.
Otherwise wonderful video. I cannot wait for the legend of heroes video.
Sunshine Coastline made me buy the game.
Every honorable mention would be right too. lol
Now how about favorites from the Super Ultimate arrangements?
I've only played Ys VIII so far but DAMN that ost is 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Some other amazing songs:
1. Ys 8: Next Step Toward the Unknown; Gens d'Armes; A Footprint in the Wet Sand
2. Ys 9: Marionette, Marionette; Norse Wind; Desert After Tears
Please do the same thing of picking your favorite soundtrack of each of the Trails Games as well, i'm now really invested
Sword of Justice has tons of amazing YS cover. My favourite is "Ernst + Final Battle".
Only played Ys8, but the opening theme and any track with variations of the opening theme are my favourites. Boss themes are generally lit too.
15:50 "I feel at total "YS" when I hear this song" 😄
Phew when i heard genesis from the beginning im relieved. i almost thought you hate me
YS VI definitely has a good OST but anytime I think of it I'll always just remember having trouble executing that stupid long jump lol.
Oh and Sunshine Coastline from VIII is *definitely* a banger.
Great video 😎👍
Some great choices there (I mean, we can't go wrong with Ys music, right?) :D!
And ofc, Master TKN, I would love to see one too for the Trails series ;-).
I would also be very hyped and happy if I could attend one of JDK's concert someday \o/.
I was listening to some music from FFX and Sunshine Coastline was in my recommendations. That track was so good I promptly downloaded Ys 8. It will be my first time playing this series so I'm interested in what the game has to offer
Ohhh man I love the ending of Ys IX, it grew on me just as much as CSIV true ending
Man the song when you put ys 7 umd in and a stupid grin on my face
Thanks TKN!
I really like the third level underwater music from ya origin
Still playing through this series, but I can comment on the ones from the games that I've heard the soundtracks for!
Origin: Genesis Beyond the Beginning (with an honorable mention to Over Drive, both the normal version and the SAV)
1&2: Tension (Chronicles version)
OiF: Valestein Castle (my second favorite song in the series)
MoC: I played the first couple dungeons of this one about a year ago on my Vita and don't remember much of the soundtrack, with one exception: the OP song. (I think it was called like Foilage Ocean of Celceta or something?)
7: Haven't played very far into this one yet, I was going to play it but after the first boss kicked my ass, I put it down and decided to play 8 instead (though I'm absolutely planning on coming back to it, just gotta finish working my way through Origin and 1&2 first). That being said, I really like Mother Earth Altago
8: oh God. There are way too many choices here, but I'm gonna have to go with Sunshine Coastline while giving A-to-Z an honorable mention. Though really the entire soundtrack could get an honorable mention
I've only played 8 and 9, but i'd say my all time favourite so far is "Cloaca Maxima", went there at every chance just to hear the music again
can you also make a vid of the top songs from the game mana khemia alchemists of al-revis? that game had a lot of good osts, and also I just realized after all these years I never knew it was an atelier game absolutely one of my fave jrpgs from the psp era together with Ys 7.
What's this, a video about the very thing that brought me into Ys and into Falcom as a whole? Let's gooooo!!!!
I have mostly the same opinions with some divergences
Ys Origin: Genesis Beyond the Beginning.
If we account for tracks from cover albums though....Oof, idk what the limit for a UA-cam Comment character count is but it would be challenged that's for sure so without any words to describe them I'd mention at least a few (based on the ones available on Spotify):
Lillia (From ys II) - Falcom Vocal Collections 1
Endless History (From Ys) - Falcom Vocal Collections 1
You Are the Only One (From Ys: See You Again) - Falcom Vocal Special J.D.K. Band 3

The Entire Ys Zanmai, Ys VIII Super Ultimate and Ys IX Super Ultimate albums
What about "Valley of the Kings" from Ys 8? That one is my personal favorite.
While I love all the Ys music, I'm pretty fond of the DS versions for Ys I & II. That was my first introduction to Falcom, and I still have the music CD that came with it. It's pretty interesting how many versions those two games got.
sealed time is still my favorite ys song
Innocent Primeval Breaker, The Ost for opening of Ys 7 it's unforgettable for me bcs it's pretty badass
Looking for advise:
I am a Trails fan and will play CS4 in a few days but generally, I am a turn-based games fan (which is how I got to Trails).
Sunshine coastline top 3 Falcom songs of all time
Im about to finish my playthrough of Ys 1+2 right now, my pick for a favorite song up to now is Dreaming, from the mirror mazes at the tower, it has such a great sound (the pc-88 version was the best one imo).
As Im about to go play Ys Origin next, I am expecting more great songs going forwards.
Aww, man. "To Make the End of Battle' only got an honorable mention? To me, it's not only the best of Ys I/II, but the best track in the series. Maybe some nostalgia bias.
dude, there is no excuse to not put "The Boy Who Had Wings" at least as a honorable mention from The Oath of Felghana
Here's some of my fave tracks (Can't just choose one per game either because there's so many great pieces)
Ys: Origin: Silent Desert, Genesis Beyond the Beginning, Termination
Ys I & II: First Step Towards War, Ruins of Moondoria, Palace of Destruction
Ys Oath in Felghana: Valestein Castle, A Searing Struggle, Believe in My Heart
Ys Memories of Celceta: Iris, Tower of Providence ~ A Kiss for Eldeel, The Morning After the Storm
Ys V Kefin: (I Actually haven't played V yet, it's the only Ys game I haven't played)
Ys VI Ark of Napishtim: Ernst, Mighty Obstacle, Quatera Woods
Ys Seven: Innocent Primeval Breaker, Vacant Interference, Scias
Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana: Sunshine Coastline, Iclucian Dance, Lacrimosa of Dana
Ys IX Monstrum Nox: Aprilis, Desert After Tears, Crossing A/A
Even with a list as stacked as this I still feel like I left out so many amazing pieces because that's just how great Falcom Sound Team JDK are!
P.S. While Dandelion's Journey might not be a personal fave of mine, I will say I cried the first time I heard that song because the ending of Ys IX was just so emotional, especially after playing all the other Ys games leading up to it.
Amazing video, now you gotta to make a Kiseki one.
very nice video, question tho. are you also planning to do a video on boss fight theme from the y's and trails series. as myself do I listen mostly to those tracks because they make me hyped up or explain the story of who-ever you are fighting think of "a beautiful song" in nier-automata that tells the stroy of simone relation to jean paul. just a question tho, but i thought i'll ask on this kind of video.
looking forward to you trails choices tho and keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching bro. I don't know, maybe I might do that but in a different format, but at the moment there's not really anything in the pipeline for a video in that vein.
I would love to get your take on "Tales of Arise" and their music this time around.
At total "Ys" with that track from Ys V? Total ease? Ys? Nice pun :D
Poor Night Survivor, always gets overlooked because it wasn't on the original Vita release.
Night survivor is the weakest of the append tracks. Vanishing Trail and Hope alive are vastly superior to it.
@@RaifSeverence, depends on individual taste, they're all good but I personally resonate with Night Survivor more.
Good thing there's a little something for everyone there.
since you did a Ys one will there ever be a chance of you doing a Trails one? Would love to hear your choice.
In the future I plan to, but I've got quite a lot of other projects I want to sort out first. So I can't really give an ETA.
@@TheKisekiNut Understandable, please take your time with it since its not a priority for me
Dammit, bad time to watch this video. Made me want to continue playing Monstrum Nox... 2am is not a good hour to play for a "little while" ( translation: 1 or 2 hrs).
Great vid and great choices. But you got some credits wrong:
Ys Origin: Scars of the Divine Wing and Genesis Beyond the Beginning were composed by the amazing Ryo Takeshita.
Anyone know the song played during in the intro segment?
Please make a trails one!
oh, didn't know you never played the first 2 games until now.
still I'm surprised you didn't even mention the bit of music that became the splash screen soundtrack for years.
Because he DID list Feena in the honorable mentions for Ys1 and 2
My Top YS songs that i like :
▷ 「INNOCENT PRIMEVAL BREAKER」- YS Seven ( My TOP 1 fave ever whether Short or Long version )
▷ 「Vacant Interference」- YS Seven
▷ 「Release Of The Far Away Ocean」- YS VI
▷ 「D.A.Y/BREAK」- YS vs. Trails in the Sky : Alternative Saga
▷ 「Ernst」( whether YS VI ver or YS and Trails ver ) - YS VI
▷ 「Final Battle」- YS I&II Chronicles
▷ 「To Make It Battle To The End」( whether long or short ) - YS I&II Chronicles
▷ 「Mother Earth Altago」( Field Theme ) - YS Seven
can you guys suggest more songs thanks :D
Oh man lol we have identical taste
@@KOT_AMV i see you are man of culture as well :)
I would've picked the exact same tracks from Origin
No Beasts as Black as Night?
>tfw no more Unisuga, no more Takeshita, no more Ishibashi, no more Momiyama, no more Hattori
Pain.
Ys 1. The track “palace.” Just palace. But the original 88 version. Sounds nothing like chronicles version and it’s my favorite.
"Every Ys game" when it isn't every Ys game
lol
Gah... what i would give to play ys 8 for the 1st time again...
Good choices, but mine are a bit different:
Origin: same
I & II Chronicles: Palace (Not Palace of Salmon) with Over Drive coming in as a close second.
Napishtim: either Mighty Obstacle or Ultramarine Deep
Seven: same - no contest
Monstrum: honestly not one song stood out enough to be called my favorite. They are all good, just not uniquely great
too bad the youtube compression butchered the quality of them
Ehhh... where are the tracks from Ys Book 1 & 2, Ys 4 Dawn of Ys, Mask of the Sun and Wanderers of Ys aka Ys 3 from the 90s? Feels incomplete that list.
I know it's opinions and all, but it just feels weird to mention the best songs in Ys without mentioning Mighty Obstacle and Gens D'Armes. Otherwise, excellent, excellent choices.
cant believe you didnt pick frontier town for Ys IV or Marionette Marionette honestly most of your picks sound the same
Whaaaat??? No mighty obstacle? What a shame :(
You're forgetting about Illburns Ruins from Ys 3. The Oath in Felghana version isn't as good as the other versions. Also, Woods of Elevated Coral Reefs is my favorite Ys VIII song.

Earth Mother Artego was not featured... Vid still got a like, but that's cause so many other tracks were bangers. 😁
Given that it doesn't appear in the game itself, I can't blame you for not mentioning it, but Innocent Primeval Breaker has a voiced remix that's arguably even better, though it's called Rush Out and I believe it can be heard in Ys vs Kiseki.
Listen to it below:

No harlequin’s temptation?😢
I love Ys 8s’ soundtrack, but Persona 5 might have something to say to you.
No it don't. I have both osts and Ys 8 is more in the quality department whereas p5 is more in the quantity de partment
@@RaifSeverence you definately have that backwards, I can name at least 10 songs off the Persona 5 soundtrack and not a single one off Ys 8.
@@RaifSeverence
Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There
Life Will Change
Last Suprise
Beneath the Mask
The Whims of Fate
Rivers in the Desert
Take Over
Not to mention all the great Jazz numbers.
