That's insane! I grew up in the Niagara Region in Southern Ontario and I would travel with my father up north to fish for large spawning Rainbow Trout like that one. They would be coming in from Georgian Bay and the Great Lakes to spawn in the local rivers, way bigger than that. Eastern Brook Trout which I love watching you catch could be found throughout the creeks, beaver ponds and small rivers throughout the region I grew up in and they are a stunning and beautiful fish! On the West Coast of British Columbia where I have lived now for more than 30 years Eastern Brookies are only found in stocked lakes and they can get big. Really enjoy your videos and miss those Brown's that I used to catch on the Bow River in Alberta many years ago when living there. Our river's here offer Rainbow Trout, Western Cutthroat Trout, Sea-Run Cutthroat, Bull Trout (Dolly Varden) which is actually a Char, and salmon in season. Keep the videos coming, I am really enjoying them!
It doesn’t look like a pure wild strain to me, but it sure fought like one. I usually just look at the tail to distinguish. It also could be a lake run fish if that stream has any connection to a trout lake. Either way, great catch man!
Wicked catch bro!! Make you way up to nipigon river/ lake for some true monster brook trout! I caught my biggest brookie ever this spring in the nipigon river 27 inches and 8 lbs, true fish of a lifetime
Bravo Hardman ! What I wouldn't give to be young again and able to hike to the water that rarely sees humans. I almost drowned in the Arkansas about a month ago. Once your waders fill up you're at the mercy of the current. I went under three times. Stupid yes but better to end my days on a river than a nursing home. Smiling all the way back up stream and never more happy to climb into my truck. Tight lines youngster. There's got to be fish in paradise or I'm commin back.....lol
Well done my friend!😁👍 That's the way to SERIOUSLY COMMIT to the catch.😁 Hopefully you were able to, at least, have feeling in your "extremities" afterwards.🙏😬 Great vid, awesome catches, and looking forward to the next one. Peace ✌😎
Awesome catch bro !!!! I had a big tussle with a huge rainbow last season 2 times in a week 2 different ones lol 😂 the second one was also in wv and it raced up in down a hole just like that tiny stream tank perfect water condition for them to fight as hard as possible lmao 🤣 may 🤦♂️ of course . I was up in down the hole in my basketball shorts getting that bad boy . Didn’t have my net had to scoop and toss it on the bank lol 😂
You should do a video on how you tie your top nymph off like that I usally just tie it on my main and then off the shank of the hook but that looks like it would be more natural that way
This is THE most exciting trout video I've ever seen. What a fight! She almost beat you! What a battle! BTW, how do you deal with hypothermia? Was it hard getting back to your car or truck? How do even find these places? Seems like it takes a Daniel Boone to do that. Great, great job! Thank you!
Love this video! I enjoy all of your videos. Suggestion though. Please wear your wading belt tightened up. Keeping my wading belt tight while fishing has saved me many cold dunks and prevented water in my waders. I know the water isn’t that deep there, but people have died being drug under while wearing waders without a belt. Keep up the great content! You are my favorite UA-camr to watch. 😊
Thank you! And probably a good suggestion. As you said I don’t typically fish areas where I’m super worried about actually drowning, and if I do I don’t risk it. But I’m no immune to falling in every now and then. Thanks for watching!
I was putting the gears to her that's for sure. If I didn't she was going to get me wrapped up in the cover on the bank, so that naturally shortened the fight. Then of course me falling into the creek sped things up a bit too LOL
Nice fish! I'm glad to see you use common sense, let this be a lesson for new flyfishers, when you get soaked or wet in these kind of weather temperatures, get out and get into dry clothes as soon as possible. Frostbite and hypothermia is no joke.
Great video as always! Hey new to fly fishing it seems like your double nymph set up is different from what I have seen in ''how to rig" videos. How do you get your first fly to set up like that?
Hey what sort of fly line do you use? It looks very thin and transparent, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fly line like it. It’d be great to see a video where you talk about your setup and the philosophy behind it, the factors you consider that go into choosing certain parameters, etc. Great video as always, beautiful fight, I’m sure that’ll be one to remember!
I think for this nymphing setup he's just using thicker fluorocarbon or nylon. The flies are so weighted+longer rod that's like a 3wt all that's needed is that timed swing to load the road enough to chuck them out that short distance.
I caught a 19” 2 lb brown yesterday while ice fishing in upstate ny. It certainly didn’t look like that rainbow but it’s still awesome. Have a great season, stay safe.
Yeah that rainbow was a monster and gorgeous fish but a big brown is hard to beat. Those fish can be picky but worth every minute of stalking. Likewise, tight lines Jason.
You netted that beast but I’m not sure who won the fight
I know… it was rough
It’s cool that when you hooked the big one you could also see little ones scooting around. Shows how good they are at hiding in their surroundings

Thank you so much for the kind words! Bull trout are on my bucket list. Thanks for watching
Wow! I love watching fishing videos but I have never been tense watching a fight like I was with that last one. That was awesome! Nice catch, dude!
Epic, not much more you can say! Except, thanks for your channel!
It doesn’t look like a pure wild strain to me, but it sure fought like one. I usually just look at the tail to distinguish. It also could be a lake run fish if that stream has any connection to a trout lake. Either way, great catch man!
Epic battle! That was fun to watch and the fish was way worth getting water in your waders to catch! Well done
Wicked catch bro!! Make you way up to nipigon river/ lake for some true monster brook trout! I caught my biggest brookie ever this spring in the nipigon river 27 inches and 8 lbs, true fish of a lifetime
Some amazing fish - and fishing skills! Well done, and thanks for these adventures you share!
Thank you for watching the adventures!
Dude, that was an epic day of fish in really small streams! And that was one incredible fight! Great way to end the day. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Why tf dont you ever mention what fear youre using to fish? Would like to know your setup and what youre using when fishing
🤝🤝🤝🤝👍
Beautiful trout! Fantastic catch. Congratulations !! Thanks so much for the great view from your angle. Heal fast
Thank you for the kind words!
Huge fish, good video, but man that little triangular net kinda pisses me off 😂
LOL why?😂
@@hardmanfishing it’s just kinda small and I think I’d miss netting some fish with it.
You know you’re getting old when you start getting hurt easily 😪😂
I know. It’s all downhill from here 😂
That fish whooped your ass bro, but that’s a nice fish.
You should post a video about your own personal favorite set up!
We have in Britain browne trout and rainbow trout. Beautiful to eat 😋
Hey, sow glad i clicked and stuck through to the end. Wow. Much love, best wishes. Holmen.

What amazing catches!!! Congrats bro!!
Thanks for sharing this video. Loved the video, but gotta say the BEST part was the stream clean up efforts at end of video! Awesome.
Interesting to see you have turned to the dark side (euro nymphing). Since I've started I've really enjoyed it. What rod are you using?
Would be nice to show the fly used after each fish.
Another great video! Cannot believe the size of fish within that creek!
Glad you enjoyed!!
Well done my friend!😁👍 That's the way to SERIOUSLY COMMIT to the catch.😁 Hopefully you were able to, at least, have feeling in your "extremities" afterwards.🙏😬 Great vid, awesome catches, and looking forward to the next one. Peace ✌😎
Great fish man and your right it was a holdover stocker you can tell by rounded tails
Sure you don’t have steelhead in that beautiful creek. Congratulations!
Awesome catch bro !!!! Bruh! WOW 🤩! That’s it I’m moving back to Appalachia!!!! God what a slammer for that creek. Size for the water was A+++
Thanks man!!
You should do a video on how you tie your top nymph off like that I usally just tie it on my main and then off the shank of the hook but that looks like it would be more natural that way
That creek is nothing but tiny...
Using the phrase “let’s go!” is the quickest way to a non-subscriber
No offense man but if "lets go" makes you unsubscribe then I didn't care if you were subscribed to begin with LOL
You need to get to gym once in a while... Not the first Time you are running out of breath... But great catch and stay safe
It ain’t about being in shape it’s about adrenaline and getting excited man 😂 I’m way more than in shape enough to fight a fish for 2 minutes
Does anyone know the general area where this guy fishes? It kinda looks like central pa imo
Wow, massive rainbow!!! From a little creek. Holy cow!!!!
It's always a good fish when your back hurts and you're out of breath lol but it's also a good note to end the day on
Surprising amount of big trout for that tiny creek. Awesome video, man! Congrats on the big rainbow
You and me both! Thanks for watching!
Good catches, what rod and reel are you using please? Thanks
Nice rainbowtrout🔥 which fly rod U use?
ngl the mustache caught me off-guard! haha great vid fun stream!
Haha!! It's gone now!! Thanks for watching
What are the names of these creeks
This is THE most exciting trout video I've ever seen. What a fight! She almost beat you! What a battle! BTW, how do you deal with hypothermia? Was it hard getting back to your car or truck? How do even find these places? Seems like it takes a Daniel Boone to do that. Great, great job! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed the video!! I didn’t really have to deal with hypothermia because I left just after I caught the fish. But thanks for watching!
Great fight on that big one.
Some big fish where you are at mate! Good job.
Good catch, love the wader bath. I should know :)
Those trout r so beautiful and clean looking!
Love this video! I enjoy all of your videos. Suggestion though. Please wear your wading belt tightened up. Awesome trouts! Greetings from Poland.
That is one special little creek you’ve got there!
That was a hell of a bow, John. Yoy got him n the net pretty quickly (1 minute 40 seconds). It usually pays off to change flies. Well done. 👌
I was putting the gears to her that's for sure. If I didn't she was going to get me wrapped up in the cover on the bank, so that naturally shortened the fight. Then of course me falling into the creek sped things up a bit too LOL
BEE-AAY-OOOOTIFUL!
Nice fish! I'm glad to see you use common sense, let this be a lesson for new flyfishers, when you get soaked or wet in these kind of weather temperatures, get out and get into dry clothes as soon as possible. Frostbite and hypothermia is no joke.
Amen! When you fall in it’s time to leave. No fish is worth a life
Is that a catch cam net?
Jon, that was an epic battle on that giant rainbow! Almost like "A River Runs Through It" type of epic battle. You've seen that, I'm sure.
I actually am reading the book now!
Well done .Wants your setup? I liked
That’s amazing how shallow they are
You are the real Paul McLean.Way to go Hardman.
If I sound like I am out of breath it is because I am😉🤣. Couldn't have said it better. Hell of a fish 🤯👏🏻😎
Thank you!!
What a monster. Makes me want to head out to Appalachia.
Great job Jonathan. All amazing fish. The video of you dunking was exceptionally well done. Keep up the great work. Thank you.
Thanks!
Great video as always! Hey new to fly fishing it seems like your double nymph set up is different from what I have seen in ''how to rig" videos. How do you get your first fly to set up like that?
Yeah it’s technically a euro nymph setup. I’m sure there are a lot of videos on it if you search that up. But I can for sure do a video on it one day
Beautiful looking trout. Well done you.
Nice fight! Been in you waders.
What an amazing catch man!! 🎣
Thanks! 👍
I lost an absolute monster Rainbow in that creek about 2 years ago. We always catch nice size fish when we go there.
I'll be honest this creek has not been nice to me. I haven't seen any big fish in there (although this was only my 3rd time fishing it)
so dramatic
I consider this channel as the NDYak of trout fishing channels. Excellent stuff.
I’ve not watched too many of his videos but I know he’s legit. Thanks for watching!
Great video beginning to end. You also helped me decide whether to winter fly fish or not. I’m planning a trip immediately.
Thank you! And good luck out there
Nice Rainbow! Enjoyed :)
Love it
One awesome video, so impressed with the way you handle the fight this huge trout brought forth---thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed!
Epic fight! great skill to land it too
We all want to see the flys you chose!!!
Awesome job looks like you’re fishing in my home state waters of WV them was some studs for sure
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed

Correct
What river flies you using
What's that on your lip?
A fly or 10
Awesome catch!
Looks like a steelhead instead of a normal stream size rainbow, very impressive on the fly
Thank you!
What a beast! What a way to end your day.
let's go boys!...great as usual
11:00 That's what it takes sometimes!
The waffle house has spoken
A 23 inch river rainbow is about my PB too, I’ve only got one other bigger and it was from a lake.
Catch of the year already! That was so fun to watch, worth the wet socks.
No doubt!! Thanks for watching
Awesome video!
So big it looks like a steelhead
Awesome catch. Love the vids
I’m happy you had a good knot tied for that fish. Those big ones love to give us a run for our money :) awesome fish, nice job.
No doubt! Thanks for watching
No problem, stay safe and have a great year of fishing and adventuring.
Nice lunker bow!!!
Those....were...some whoppers!!!!
Great video! You let a little water send you home?
HAHAHA Thanks for watching Larry
Need a 30 lb. mono rig for that little creek😁👍
I know 😅
Dude!!, you always catch the most fish!
Thank you!!
What length rod do you recommend for small creeks?
Depends on what you’re fishing for…
I love this guy
What net is that?
That was amazing !
Beautiful video
Question is that a moonshine fly rod 😅
Nope!
