    I’m a Windsor owner and have been for most of my music life. Marshall has always been over rated. You can clearly hear the difference. I can dial that Windsor in to any tone for any style and it sounds amazing every time. I also payed a fraction of the price for it. Poor Windsor never gets the respect it deserves for being a very versatile amp. Let the Marshall fan boys start the whining!

      I don't know if you'd call it whining, but I do currently play the f*ck out of a ValveKing so hopefully that establishes that I'm not an elitist here. That said, the 800 stomps all over the Windsor in this comparison. I wasn't expecting such a drastic difference but there it is. In fairness, this is the only thing I've ever heard out of a Windsor and it might do other things better, but an 800 it ain't.

      @@aldersmoke1agreed. The Windsor isn’t a bad amp and for the money, there’s a lot of tone there. To say it’s an 800… or a 900? I own both. It’s not. My band mate plays a Windsor and I think it adds a really nice balance to my tone. But they are just different. The peavy has a little bit more of tighter gain, almost compression, while my other two Marshalls seem to a more responsive gain and the mids and highs seem to break through much better. This is more noticeable live. Overall I think the Windsor is a nice amp, with TS9, it’s got some bite to it, but I wouldn’t compare it to a Marshall. The tones are simply different and how each of those amps projects those tones is different. But it adds balance to my rig.

      @@JaredVest-h2d always a good idea to run different sounding rigs for a live mix so you're getting actual definition between the two guitars and there's room in the mix for both of you. A shitty sounding amp like the windsor has its place in the right setting.

    I wasn't expecting the Windsor to chug and sound so aggressive. Definitely sounds different.. almost 5150ish or something.. either way I really liked it. I liked both for different reasons. I'd imagine they would sound rad in a mix blended together.

  • @brandonjackson5865
    @brandonjackson5865 Рік тому +4

    I think those two tones would sound great blended. The Peavey wasn’t as clear but it had a nasty high end that could complement the 800 . The Marshall had a more defined bottom end and mids were more defined maybe. The Windsor sounded great too but not really like the 800 .

    So the 800 blows the Windsor out of the water. However, they did get a lot closer when you switched to the Explorer and had higher mids, so that may be part of it.

  • @reijei4070

    Windsor is a good amp. You can get all kind of great sounds with an eq pedal. Not terribly tight or forgiving for leads. I moved on to better amps when I got into shredding but it's always a decent option for someone's first tube amp. Depending on your style it might be the one.

    I would have never thought of the Windsor as a clone of a Marshall. I do wish I had bought a Windsor when they were cheap, I went with the Valve King 100 and I don't regret it. It would be nice to have that as well. I was told that people use the Windor wrong, he said crank the master up and set volume with the pre. I thought about trying that at Guitar Center, then thought better. LOL
    I may get a Windsor used one day, but last I checked they were at least $100.00 more used than they were new.

    Ryan you should check out the Seymour Duncan 805 pedal it is in the Tube Screamer vein but has treble and bass controls ....it would likely level that Windsor out more closely to the JCM800...another good pedal is the Electro Harmonix Canyon Overdrive, same additional tone shaping parameters...digging the riffs

    • @Crypticmaskguitar

    HELP! --- Ok, I picked up a really clean what looks like an un-molested 100watt Windsor half stack and I am running it with a Boss GT-PRO with a DBX266. done what i could but Sounds like SHITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thought since I bought most of the kit used there was something up with the boss or the DBX266. If I plug in headphones to the Boss Pro its creamy vaginal goodness. So next test, set the Windsor up with a little preamp (2) and (2) on the master everything else is point up.. Clean dry sound, good. plug the Boss PRO into the input low and its sounds like a radio shack 3" speaker, its almost like the DBX trimmed the top and bottom off and reduced. but removing the DBX from the mix and its the same BUTT-MUDD dripping out. Tubes? Plugin in the amp raw ... tele with preamp full-mast and Master at 2 and everything else neutral its still sounds dead. Missing that crispy fuzz... I live on an island in the middle of BFE there a no vibrator repair shops around. just the occasional garage accordion duct tape repair shop. I don't want to give anyone sloppy seconds then let them piss and moan why I sold them a crap amp. So I pray now to the Oh godly one any advise you can give would be appreciated.

      So the Amp sounds fine on its' own and the Effects Unit sounds good on its' own... but together sound horrible. Effects units sometimes have numerous outputs and controls for those outputs. Could be that. You could try the effects loop on the front of the amp as well. But more than likely it going to be the selected output on the Boss and possible controls/settings for it. Cheers -Ryan

      Effects loop a little better but noticed one tube is a little dimmer the others. don't know if this even indicates the tubes condition or if it just goes to school on the short bus. However I was able to make it a little better by turning up the outputs and the input on the Boss. Not sure what to do except give it to the neighborhood teen looking to piss off his parents. Going to stay on track for that JCM800. Though I have been a Voodoo fan (Modified) Two Voodoo's 100wat on left and right channel really seems to have a quicker seizure reaction time on my neighbor. You know higher quality twitches and a lot more orifice liquid. have you reviewed old school Voodoo 120?
