It’s honestly kind of crazy how close that valve king sounds to the rectifier. Also I love how this is one of the only channels who has actually managed to get better over time good work brother tasty riffs
I don’t use Impulse Responses. I’m old and I prefer using an actual mic on an actual cabinet at rather high volumes. They’re both going through the same cabinet and same mix, though. But that’s never been able to make 2 different amps sound similar. Cheers -Ryan
Insane value on the VK100.. I don’t know how much longer it will be available for under $300 so readily. With a good cab choice they absolutely RIP for metal/hardcore tones
It’s crazy, I went to GC and found the VK 412 cab for $89. Then the salesman said we have the head too. And the combo. Head was $269, combo was $229. Since the combo has a 16 Ohm out too, I diversified and bought the combo and the cab. All under $350 out the damn door. Nuts.
I have the VK100 gen 1. Depending on cab choice, damping and texture settings, it has a pretty wide range of sounds. Ever tried the VK100 on a 2X12 with 1201BWs? I don't have the Dual Rectifier, because they're above my pay grade.
This Peavey will be the complement to my Ampeg SVT 2 PRO and my 810 to make "Trujillo signature sound". At this time I only tried it with just bass and it lacks massive low end but it is a guitar amp, but I can't wait to pair it up with my Ampeg rig. 😁😁😁
I think the VK might cut through a mix a little better because it's a little brighter with slightly more clarity. The DR has a fatter darker sound which could be what you're for though. I have this same VK100 head and I also have a Carvin X100B head. The Carvin is darker sounding (it has EL34 tubes) so I offset the difference by running the VK through a darker sounding 2x12 cab, and the Carvin through a brighter sounding 2x12 cab.
It's wild how much the vk100 gets shit on. I always use it over my 6505 or dsl. I'll usually use someone else's cab at the gigs and every other guitarist comes up afterward(guys using dual/trip recs, 6505/5150s, etc) and are wowed by how I sounded and want to know what I am using bc they don't recognize it(mine looks a little different and stripped down). Granted, it could partly be my pickups or OD, but my shit always sounds as good as, if not better than, the much higher dollar amps at the gig.
My mesa/jcm modded valveking 100 watt head mark 1 is insane. Not as great at a 6505 or a jsx or xxx but with those modds its a beast. Mines in the shop for repairs i hope to get it back soon. That why i have several rigs in case one of my favorites breaks or needs tubes whatever i have my backups like my 6505 lol.
@@Crypticmaskguitar yep ive got more guitars , amps, cabs . pedals, etc then i need but nothing like you have. You've got the best of the best. U ever try a hughs @ kettner switchblade head. The model of it on the spark 40 and the demos of it make it sound so heavy but clear and tight but beefy so beautiful its a bucket list amp u have any experience with the switchblade?
Switchblades come up locally pretty regularly. The fact that it has a digital delay built in is a real turn off. I’m sure it sounds good, though. Cheers -Ryan
The Mesa is a thicker/beefier sound thats perfect for live applications. For recording I would end up filtering alot of the low end out to allow the bass guitar to prop the guitars up. The valve king has that pre-filtered sound that perfect for ... or almost perfect, for recording. In a live application you would need to EQ in some more bass somehow imo.
Just bought a VK100 mkII. It is a little tricky at first but unbelievable tones are hidden in there. If the cheapo sounds that good, how good do the 6505 or invective sound?
From what I have experienced with Valve King in person, I am impressed how it turned out in the mix, sounds kind of nice, however the Mesa is far better in my opinon here...
I think the Valve King has more harmonic overtones. It’s also gutsier than the Mesa. The Mesa has more of a Marshallized top end that helps it cut while the Valve King, staying true to its sludge, tames the top end in comparison.
I love all renditions of the SG, standards and customs, but I think its time to revamp it...they should add a 1st fret trapezoid inlay to the first fret.
sounds like mesa creates more even, fat sound, no matter how strong you hit the strings, it produce almost equal sound from hit to hit, while peavey leaves some space for frequency fluctuations and creates more dirty, variable, screaming sound. Both are great amps, just depends what kind of sound you want to get
I don’t write down my settings and I change them all the time. I thought I said in the video that I was using an Ibanez TS9, maybe I forgot. The signal chain is always listed in the description. Cheers -Ryan

It sounds that close because it sounds like they are both running through the same impulse response

@@Crypticmaskguitar I love the way it sounds the raw tracks sound different you can tell but when they’re in the mix they’re pretty similar
I bought the Valveking because of this video! Thank you!
Hi, me too. It will be my bass’s overdrive channel beside my Ampeg SVT 2 Pro rig. 😊
Love that old school sound the VK has.
I got here from the amp review, but I stayed for the riffs 🔥 you rock dude
I own both amps myself...the VK is really an underrated Peavey gem ...but hey, keep um cheap priced I say...great playing also, RIFFAGE!
Got my combo for 300 dollars, can’t complain

I got it and a matching cab for like $400 lol. Great deal
Rectifier with UK v30's and double it on Valveking with Sheffields are an INSANE match!
Great review and absolutely epic playing. The riff at 3:35 is flipping awesome 👌
Both are very good sounding amps but the mesa just has more balls. Thanks for another great video demo 😀
Love the riffs. Love your channel. Keep up the good work!
I think the Peavey cuts through the mix a lot better.

Nice! That’s another reason why most of us have 4-5 different heads! Or in my case 30. Variety is the spice of life! Cheers -Ryan

The only thing that makes the vk not ideal is that waaayyy too lose low end. Especcially when you love a tight attack it can get muddy.
What band are you in
What are your settings on the valve king Amp and what kind of overdrive are you using

Which your choice,?
I’d be leaning towards the Dual Rectifier in most scenarios. Cheers -Ryan
How many preamp tubes are in the valve king
3X 12AX7 Cheers -Ryan
