Caught him several times in the '60s at The Apollo Theater. Another black genius all but forgotten today. 😢 Like Freddie King. So glad I caught him in those days.
@@FUNNYMANERICWHITE he was dancing before him but he got his moves from Joe and James got the big break first so James got the bigger opportunity to showcase them. Joe was the first black Acrobat in his state.

Hello, What a coincidence, both uncles are playing for Mr. Tex. Thank you for your reply. Which state do you live? I'm in New Jersey. Take care. @@cjf3540
Folks gonna hate, but ya boy James stole this man's moves. All JB did was just put his 2¢ on it. Joe's mic trick was just too smooth. The same splits except Joe's split was just smooth. Even though he slightly pushes up on 'em, but the footwork is astounding.
I'll be!! So James Brown wasn't original like I initially thought. He basically plagiarized Joe Tex in voice and stage moves. I admire James Brown but after seeing this and doing some research, The luster of James Brown isn't there for me anymore.
! Hasta se quito los sapatos ! He done even took his shoes off ! He musta bought that pair of shoes over there in Madrid. New shoes will do a number on your kornz, let alone your kanklez !
Having watched both since the 60's its hard to make the case that brown stole moves from tex. Brown was much faster(watch tami show) and tex never did full splits nor the one leg shimmy. They were both great entertainers but Brown is still the standard by which everyone else is measured.
That mike trick is smooth as fuck!
Joe Tex is smooth as fuck!
I met Joe Tex when I was 5y/o at a NOI meeting. Still remember his energy!
A great performer who was an unsung hero of funk and dance.
I new him well cause he use to play his guitar at my dad's store.😊
