What a great video and series Blair and the whole crew put together. I'm back onboard now, and we are preparing to depart for Antigua to begin our Caribbean season. All the crew are super excited to get down to the islands and start chartering again. Thanks for watching and we'll see you next week. 🛥🥂
This was a really good series, and the watchability keeps going up. So, what does this mean with regard to the rotation of the crew. Is Nina back yet, or is she off till you're back in the med?
How was your break Captain Paul! Refreshed and ready for the next charter season? Ones things for sure Captain you certainly have a great team. Take care and good luck, hopefully the HP fuel pump on the other engine is good 👍
HATS OFF to the engineering crew - unexpected issue but diagnosed the problem, notified the Captain and crew created a workable contingency plan. Cheers to safe passage you guys!
What a delight! I'm a grandmother about to enter my 85th year and remember at your age, in the 50's ,, All I could do was look forward to getting home to my boyfriend for the summer! (Can't remember his name now!) Next generation, my son had a gap year in Belgium grooming show horses and farming endive. Now my grandson is taking 2 months off from his emerging career to hike the Camino. It's something he missed during the pandemic, but his wonderful boss is making way for it now. So we should improve with each generation, and I can see that you people make me hopeful for our world and it's positive development. Thank you for this fun learning experience.!
I did two crossings as Chief on a 50 mtr motor yacht. The first from Mallorca to Fort Lauderdale, this crossing was uneventful, we even stopped exactly half way to go for a swim mid Atlantic, which was fun and enlightening, it was warm, not very salty and the visibility underwater went on forever. The second from Miami back to the med wasn't so much fun. We had finished our busy Caribbean season a little late due to being fully booked but our boss asked our Captain if it would be ok for a friend of the family could have a couple of weeks vacation before we set off back to the med. This turned out to be a big mistake! Hurricane season was in full swing as we left Miami and there were three systems brewing, we were down to a delivery crew, with only me and the first mate being part of the normal crew, all the rest were taking a well earned rest. We went north to Bermuda to try and avoid the systems that were starting to block our passage out of the Caribbean, only to discover that one of the systems decided to turn and run straight at us, after two days all of the delivery crew were laid up seasick including the delivery skipper. With out a doubt one of the most frightening times of my life, going headlong into a hurricane is far from pleasant, you can't see the tops of the waves from the bridge windows on the way up because they are so high, and you have to gun the engines flat out on the way down because you are surfing and trying to keep from rolling over, at one point according to my logs we went over to 48 degrees, but were picked up and righted by the swell, we went through the eye and out the other side and survived, all me and the first had done was try to stay awake and keep the vessel upright through all of this chaos. I could continue but condensing four days into a few sentences isn't that easy, but two things that are memorable from my adventure were seeing two hump backed whales surfing alongside the boat out of the starboard window during the storm, and discovering that one of the 22 ft Glastron tenders had been ripped from the deck during the crossing.
I used to live in Palm Beach County for 25 years. We had several friends that had gorgeous yachts at the Palm Beach Yacht club. I sure do miss the aqua marine colored water and the beaches AND having lunch and shopping on Worth Ave. Ahhh the good ole days. Thanks for the video.
I am so pleased to see that the temperatures on the shaft seal / bearings on the Port side propulsion system are going to be monitored, most people would overlook this.
Another great video: Good to see your all safe & well , all ways smiling regardless of the situation with loosing one engine, hopefully you’ll all be able to get a bit of R &. R ashore while the maintenance work is done I think you all deserve it after the crossing. As always stay safe have fun & will be looking forward to seeing you all in the next entertaining video from the MV Loon
Well done engineers for trying their best to resolve the problem on the engine and looking after the working one to ensure a safe arrival. Got to say well done to the deck crew doing all that sanding and varnishing too. Greg 🇬🇧
@@motoryachtloon Thanks for the reply…the engines are good yes…sorry for the unusual question, but is that really your intention that I do the engine service? 😳 you know, that didn't happen to me before 😊. Looking forward to your answer 👍
Thank you. Yes, they are great engines and much more fuel-efficient than the Cats we had on our old yacht. I'm just playing Chief Engineer. Alex has the engines purring, but you never know. By any chance, do you know anyone in the MTU marketing department? We would love to do some work with them.
That’s an extremely immaculate engine room BTW! Very nice. I work on stationary generators and their fuel systems as part of my daily job for the last 23 years and I’m in awe of how nice & clean the engine room is on this yacht. And we also have some MTU units in service as well as some much older Detroit 2-stroke units that are still serving us well. Cheers!
This is the first time I’ve watched your videos, but really enjoyed coming along and glad the yacht handled the crossing well on only the right engine. 100 liters an hour fuel consumption seems great for a craft of this size. Safe cruising.
Love the videos of your adventures! I especially like how personable you are and how you describe the experience of being the captain of a beautiful M/Y. Keep up the good work! ❤
Just love all the videos as I was a marine engineer for over 40 years it would have been more but I had a accident at work fell five feet on the small tug boat I was skipper on in 2009 witch ended up in 2012 having my left leg amputated that’s life ,I loved my job so that’s why I find this program so interesting especially anything to do with the engine so this video was the best so far for me ,hope you get the fuel pump you need and keep one in stock.just love you all great crossing most enjoyable, till the next one take care and keep safe,Joh. 🇬🇧🌹🥂😝🤭🤗😤😉😌🧑🦽🧑🦽
Really enjoyed watching this video.. absolutely epic crew and very informative. Hope you had a nice welcome break Captain Paul. The loon crew are amazing x
I can't believe the luck of having such good weather crossing the Atlantic. Crossings like this are rare and a return trip won't be this easy. On top of that, they need to rename the vessel "Lucky" because of the good weather crossing and no big mechanical issues. The potential for many problems would have been 12 ft swells and 40-45 kt winds on one engine. I could imagine a mess on the inside of anything not tied down because of rolling. Great video and thank God for such an easy crossing in spite of having one engine halfway across.
We usually cross in good weather. We wait for the window in Gib and adjust our course to drive around any storms in front of us. All the furniture on the interior is tied or bolted down, so if we encounter rougher weather, we are prepared.
Blair another great Loony video. Great you had an amazing sail across from the Adriatic start point. You did a great job videoing this passage and wow you did not loose a Drone. Capt Paul will be impressed. Enjoy your down time if you get any and looking forward to another adventure of THE LOON!!!!!!!!!!!
I have enjoyed the content of Loon so much and learning the hard-working crew of Loon. Would love a week aboard. I bet as the chief eluded to parts will be on board. Great video. Looking forward to the next installment of repair and maintenance of Loon.
It's really interesting. Kind of why I don't get. But very glad that everyone made the crossing safely. I know all too well what crossing an ocean feels like. But the Pacific. Once headed to war. I bet the marine videos will be especially interesting. Thank goodness y'all got all of the BEAUTIFUL crew "home" safely. That was all that mattered. Cheers! Enjoy your beers! 🍺 🍻 🎊
I only found your channel just in time to catch the first video in this series on the crossing. I used to follow Jared Watney when he worked on M/Y Arience one of my favourite SuperYachts. I am so pleased to have found your channel, super impressed with your work Blair, and what a great team of people in the crew. Loved the last four videos and will be following you into the future. Huge well done, God speed.
A great series guys. Just popped up by chance on my feed as a suggestion. We have been in Port Grimaud for the last two summers and have been fascinated by all the super yachts in St Tropez Bay. Very informative insight into living and working on a super yacht, and you all come across as lovely fun loving people with a great sense of humour and you work so hard to ensure your guests have a great time. Thanks for posting and we are binge watching your vlogs.
Whats up guys, those ladies seemed very bored cleaning the silver egg cups, they need entertaining. Those bruises looked nasty on the chefette's arm. Brilliant flat sea crossing, well done to whoever planned that. Well done for keeping the boat going also, I would have expected an engine loss would have been a lot worse than just 2-3 days delay. Another great video, well done. I love the South African accent, could listen and watch your videos all day.
Blair another fantastic job, geez your good buddy. Must be great to have a to crew, bit sad about the HP fuel pump 💲💲, MTU usually have ECU issues but the Engineers have have it all in hand. Take care crew and it appears that where your going there are also a heap of other Super Yachts as well. God Bless
For a ship that looks so big at the dock, it really is a tiny boat on a very big ocean. I'm glad your passage was a very boring one and that no one got seasick. this season's new crew is settling in well.
I'm just curious why they didn't steer for Bermuda to affect repairs when the port engine punked out ? Assuming both fuel pump assemblies are the same age and hours the opposite engine could just have easily gone lame on them. I come from the airline world and 1 engine out on a twin engine is a no go situation.
Great video, the first time I experienced a virtual crossing. The whole crew seems to get along great. Welcome to my home State. Chief Davey comes across as kinda a jerk. He doesn't seem to fit in or match with the great personalities from the rest of the crew.
HATS OFF to the engineering crew - unexpected issue but diagnosed the problem, notified the Captain and crew created a workable contingency plan. Cheers to safe passage you guys!
Well said
To be fair, I could have come up with "use the other engine" contingency plan... :-\
This level of thinking demonstrates exactly why you'd be no use in a similar situation@@zachansen8293
Thanks Loon Crew!
Finally a look at a very Pro Yacht Crew. World class production values, stories, of a very special career.
What about 20:45 standing right next to a line under tension amongst a snapback zone?
This is why these yachts cost so much. Having qualified engineers on board is so worth it-great work everyone. Excellent video.

Awesome to see how the crew takes Paul's talking bits and narrates the video together! Great job crew!
They all did such a great job!
Hey Bjorn I’m 70 and STILL having fun! It is the attitude that is important! 🤣
Love to hear and see a real professional crew in action at work lots into in plus money thank you for this video 😊
THAT IS A AMAZING EXAMPLE…. OF BEING A GREAT ENGINEER ! GREAT JOB GUYS
The great thing is that we see the daily life and problem solving that happened while underway. At least no guests onboard.
The pain passes, but the beauty remains.
Absolutely the finest crew manning the most beautiful vessel ( on the planet in MHO ) Thanks so much for sharing guys. Blair you ARE the master!
Thank you so much for your kind words! We're glad you enjoyed the video and appreciate your support. 🛥️🥂

Interesting to see footage of a yacht powered by engines made by MTU (I work there), because normally yacht owners don't show their ships on UA-cam 😊
Very cool! They’re great engines. Want to come help us service them?

It appears the crew get along quite well. At least when the camera is on:-)
Well done to Engineering, it's always a stressful time when you are down to one engine especially that far out. The running one becomes your baby (even more so than usual) and you dote on it, every noise, every little tick is amplified 100 times. It really does increase stress levels in the control room considerably.
I'm wondering if they changed both HP pumps and kept the good old one as the spare or only swapped out the US one and kept a new spare? My preference would be the former but procedures vary from vessel to vessel and engineer to engineer.
Sounds like you’ve been there before.
The love and care for the Port Main Engine definitely increased but luckily it didn’t miss a beat.
