Wrd back in the 80s and 90s it was crazy. now it’s known for being a safe neighborhood cuz of low crime rate even tho for the past two years it’s been seeing rise in crime 😭
I lived in Sunset from 64 - 2001. The park was always beautiful and charming, but the neighborhood has a rough edge. Seems you had to prove yourself, whether in school, the park or the streets.

I went to HS with some real good dudes from Sunset. I remember some dudes from Sunset would jokingly call it Gunset back in HS and coming from Flatbush, I’m thinking “I never heard of sunset having that kind of reputation compared to some other hoods in Brooklyn” . I’m speaking on the 2000s. I don’t know much about the 80s/90s sunset. But I always keep in mind that shit could go down anywhere.
I use to do my thing in Sunset back in 99. The thing with Sunset is it's extremely Spanish. It use to be mostly Puerto Rican. I got in there through my man i met in job corp. The money out there was in the P-funk because of the demographic. Sunset park has changed alot. It use to be like a open market for that. Most of the Puerto Ricans have moved out. Today it's Mexican, & El Salvadorans mostly. The other half is mad Chinese people. You also have some whites who moved into there because they have those brownstones. Shout out 2 my peoples who use to be out there. My motherfuckin peoples Edwin aka E (Bald headed E) and his cousin Weedy, the nigga trouble, my man Bigs who use to be out there who's from Argil in Flatbush (rip). My homegirl Melissa Torres and her hoemgirl Jenni. Much love to da ol sunset crew....early 2000s, late 90s...and I will say that Bay ridge is close to Sunset but it's nothing alike. It has a different flavor. Bay ridge is very crowded, never really had alot Hispanics either. Bayridge was mostly Italian back then. Today it's mostly Arabs.
