One thing people should notice is Edward Lee's approach. While the other contestants were focused on making something that was familiar to them. Edward Lee was 'Experimenting' with unfamiliar Korean dishes as well as planning out a full 8 course meal. This sounds easy but look how gracefully and naturally he does it. To me he is the 'Ultimate chef'
He said in the plane ride to Korea he decided to not cook anything’s he’s cooked before. Other chefs were presenting their perfected dishes that they actually sell and is popular in their restaurants but Edward Lee was there truly creating new things. Not to take anything away from the other chefs. But Edward Lee had a different goal in addition to winning. He may not have been the winner but he’s the main character.
I was rooting for Napoli before the round of “Tofu hell”, but in the last two rounds, Edward Lee charmed me over with his creativity and attitude for cooking. With the way of this competition, it’s hard not to root for the winner of tofu hell who showed us his absolute creativity of all 7 rounds. He was experiencing jet lag while staying in a hotel with no cooking utensils, yet managed to survive till the final! Wonderful work, Lee Kyun!
During the tofu wars, it was creativity vs execution, thinking outside the box vs frying the same tofu with diff coats and sauces. In the finals again it's thinking outside the box using simple ingredients vs doing what you know (of course your gonna do it well) and using expensive materials. Which is why the winner should be Chef Lee instead of the other guy.
Edward's *GO BIG OR GO HOME* attitude is truly amazing. 🏆He presented a dessert despite knowing it would be a huge gamble, especially when he has competition experience during Iron Chef. But he didn't want to play it safe, and as a result, impressed many viewers watching him at home. I take my hat off to you, sir! 💯
He may have lost the final round, but he really did capture every viewer's heart in every dish he made. Couldnt help but get emotional everytime he presents his dish 😭
I respect Edward Lee . His creative at the Tofu Dish really amaze me. And his dish story really showed his passion to his food. He may not win the competition, but for sure He won every one hearts.
Criteria for judging is so fickle, there should be 3 judges to balance things out. Napoli doesn't come out of his comfort zone. Finals could have been a full course meal with a theme competition to showcase their creativity. Edward Lee proved himself to be a good leader, creative and well-rounded chef!
The difference between the winner chosen by the 2 judges and the winner who won the people's hearts because of passion, creativity & modesty. Chef Edward Lee you're the real deal!
I've read one Korean comment from other video that said, "Napoli Matfia wants to show or recognized himself as a chief to people (or world), and Edward Lee wants to show or recognized himself as a *KOREAN*-American to people. Therefore, it's a perfect happy ending to both chefs."
I agree with that comment... that is the perfect statement to round off the finale; one to be recognized as a chef and one to be recognized in its Korean roots.
The judges made creativity as one of the criteria in the tofu challenge making sure no dishes are too similar (which is why triple star lost). However in the final, the winner cooked yet another Italian dish
Should've ended it at the tofu challenge with all of them battling to make it to top 2! That challenge was literally the most difficult challenge ever, perfect for testing their true abilities. I think Mr. Edward Lee would’ve been the winner because of his ability to produce countless creative dishes on the spot! His stories also made me tear up because he just seemed so genuine and tbh all his food looked so interesting and good I wanted to try them all! I was rooting for Napoli matfia too but he didn't really step out of his comfort zone and challenge his creativity skill so would’ve been amazing to see him , Mr Edward Lee and Triple star battle till the end! Anyways I enjoyed the show, can't wait for season 2!
Edward was physically and mentally exhausted and yet he delivers at the tofu challenge! Napoli is good but he had enough rest to think straight! Edward is an incredible cook🎉🎉🎉
Of all the cooking reality shows I have watched so far, this is by far one of the most grueling cooking competitions and has a format that is very close to Shokugeki no Souma (Food Wars anime). The Infinite Cooking Hell really tests all remaining chefs to their limits, and Edward Lee really inspires me the most in this challenge. For this season, I rooted for Napoli Matfia, Cooking Maniac, Hyun Seok and Edward Lee from the start, and I'm happy for Napoli Matfia. A lot of people I see feels that the finals fell flat, but I think the finals were appropriate given that the last challenge was already hellish for one of the contestants. The two chefs brought two different concepts and message into their dishes. The theme for this challenge is "A dish that you will stake your name on". To me, Edward 'Kyun' Lee brought forward his "identity" into the plate, because his name and heritage is a mix between the two nations. Napoli Matfia, on the other hand, he brought his 'everything' into his plate. Hence there are two differing messages and opinions, but I do not think they are any less worthy than each other to win the competition. Both dishes are still final-worthy to be presented to the judges. If I were the judges, the concept alone on both dishes convey a very strong message and their interpretation is very on-point.. it is a dish where you have to give your everything, i.e. your life experiences to bring you where you are today. Although Edward Lee made a strong statement from his dish that consolidated his life experience and the identity crisis he experienced, Napoli Matfia win by a slight margin from the planning and execution perspective because he went above and beyond to present a dish that can be considered as a full course meal on one plate, which is not an easy feat to achieve. Respect to both chefs for completing the competition to the end! Really looking forward to the next season of Culinary Wars!
Mr. Edward Lee, you should have been the Winner of the show not the other one😢 Your creativity, humbleness and calmness are extraordinary. You sure have won our hearts ❤
Edward Lee is my vote...teokbokki vs. lamb Lamb is lamb, it really tastes good whatever meal it is and cooked by an expert chef...but making teokbokki very special and creative, wow! it's CHAMPION!
They should have chosen the final two contestants from the infinite hell for the finale. Napoli's exclusive knowledge of Italian cuisine may prevent him from surviving the tofu challenge
I wish the finale had Chef Edward Lee & Triple Star. Napoli Matfia is so arrogant - if he participated in the seven rounds of hell he probably would’ve made pasta in every single one💀 Edward Lee is so humble, creative and true to his craft.
he can also make risotto but remember he made a rare Korean dish that not even many Koreans would know, if he took that challenge he would definitely show more to the audience what's in his toolbox. Chef Paik was born in that region and is probably very familiar with the dish Matfia made he thought Mafia executed that dish extremely well and was shocked that he made that dish like a grandmother. This guy is definitely extremely creative, skilled, and resourceful. He made a tiramisu from convenience store items, that's no joke man. He may look arrogant but remember when he was the first one to be picked from the mukban challenge he teared up and went to hug the elderly women right away and then he thanked Edward Lee. The guy has heart even if he doesn't show it as much as Triple Star or Edward Lee.
After the team challenge when he was a leader, I can see his intentions to come to this show is to learn about his roots, he consistently made Korean Food with is new to him. And he is si cool and humble so the last 2 episodes of this show a lot of people admire his arts in cooking and his creativity.
I feel that the tofu challenge should come first, then have the two chefs remaining cook the dish that represent their lives as the final dish (with the added criteria that judges should reach unanimous decision on a dish to have a winner) that way the buildup is more well-paced and the final episode wouldn't be so underwhelming 🤔
yea i thought that too, tofu wars should be a challenge that decide who the first one that deserve to be in the final, and the dish that tells about their life story should be in the second to determine the 2nd finalist.

I have just finished this series and I have the same opinion with the other comments here. Chef Lee should have been the winner. The other judge have said the difference was by a hair. It means the full course meal done by Mafia was comparable to a dessert made by Chef Edward Lee. What more if Chef Lee made a full course meal? If we would look at that. Then he's definitely the winner. The Tofu Challenge should have been the sole Challenge for Semi Finals. I doubt Mafia could have lasted like Triple Star and Chef Edward Lee. Seeing Triple Star and Chef Edward Lee battling. It felt more like the finals for me. Because they are humble, genuine and very creative chefs. More like an Artist but as Chefs. If I have the chance I would definitely try their restaurants in the future. ❤❤❤ Imagine if Chef Choi Hyun Seok didn't forgot the garlic on the furst round of Semi Final. Then he would have been in the finals and Mafia should have been in the Tofu Challenge. There, he would definitely be crushed by Triple Star and Edward Lee.
Actually, when Edward Lee and Meat guy was first tested on Blinds tests, and that EL won, that's when I knew he is great! And from that moment on I'm rooting for him
The real winner of the show is undoubtedly Chef Edward Lee 🎉🎉, and I believe the tofu challenge represents the true finals. In contrast, that Napoli contestant, who cooked solely pasta throughout the competition, displayed a level of arrogance. Like WTF man, I’m pretty sure if you were in the cooking hell challenge, you’d be eliminated coz you only cook pasta. 😂😂. Be humble and stop being arrogant every interview 😤😤
Finals should have been between Edward Lee, Triple Star, and Choi Hyun Seok. They did Choi Hyun Seok dirty by not clarifying the criteria before they started the Tofu challenge. They only announced it when they were already done cooking. Throughout the competition, those three managed to showcase their technical skills, creativity, and leadership. You always don't know what they're gonna serve but with Napoli, you know it'll be Italian food. While those three challenged and pushed the boundaries of their creativeness, Napoli stuck to his comfort zone.
Edward Lee is the people’s winner - he’s humble (unlike Napoli Matfia) , very creative . It’s easy to make a delicious dish with overwhelming ingredients like the Baroque 1995 but extremely difficult to make an outstanding dessert with simple ingredients
For me the final stage is anticlimax. The Tofu challenge was so amazing, it showed how great the chef is. Unfortunately on the final, the winner was decided by 1 dish only. I Love Chef Edward Lee and Natpoli but I wish to see something more than that especially at the final stage.
Edward lee really like to challenges himself, he dare to take a risk..in my heart he is the winner since blind tasting round..when many contestants only do it what in their field he's doin something different
Both Edward Lee and Napoli Matfia are winners. Edward Lee focus on winning the heart of Koreans and made a solid foundation where he originated from. Napolian Matfia focuses on winning and gaining recognition with take-home money. It is a win-win for both 😍😍
The graded round before the tofu hell shouldn't have given Napoli matfia a pass to the finals. I think maybe a single "protection" card or skip within the tofu hell would have been much better. The difference in difficulty of the 2 rounds seems to unbalanced. Even though I think matfia is great, I wonder if he would have even made it past the tofu hell...
Edward Lee's creativity and understanding of ingredients is unmatched. If you look at all his tofu interpretations and put all of them together as a full course meal, they would still make sense. He started off light with soup and seafood before progressing to heavier tofu dishes and wrapped it all up with a dessert. In the finals, he once again used his creativity to create a spectacular dish out of cheap, ordinary ingredients. In contrast, Napoli also created a spectacular dish, but out of top end ingredients including rack of lamb and truffle. Very similar to the finale of Masterchef season 3, but the opposite outcome. The Tofu challenge should have been the finale, and Edward Lee should have won. The one dish finale is just stupid. What a let down.
But it's still a remarkable feat to assemble one dish that feels like a full-course meal with expensive ingredients. He made his dish into a journey and I think he learned it from Edward Lee since Lee had a theme or a story in mind where he would first start with a light cold soup and go into heavier and spicier dishes and then end the meal with a dessert. Mafia decided to do what Lee did in one plate while Lee sadly decided not to replicate or bring something similar to what he did in the tofu challenge into the finals. If Lee made a dish that feels like a full-course meal he probably could have defeated Mafia due to his ingenious creativity.
Each contestant has his own style, and the reasons they give for preparing each dish are surprising. It was a difficult situation for the jury to decide which dish stood out in all aspects (flavor, consistency, combination, presentation, ufff, etc. etc.). Thank you for uploading this content
Weird how the judges gave so much weighting for creativity in the tofu challenge (e.g. how they mentioned triple star had better flavors but they ultimately chose edward because he was more creative), and then suddenly in the finals they just took taste into consideration and went with an Italian dish that wasn’t really innovative 😅
The task was to create a dish that could be called their names. Being honest, what dish actually had their name? The other one is just a bunch of italian elements that in no way match the korean pasta guy's name. One dish screamed I am Edward Lee. The other dish was just I am another italian dish in the bucket.
Expected Final : 1. Edward Lee vs Choi Hyun Seok 2. Edward Lee vs Triple Star 3. Edward Lee vs Napoli Matfia 4. Triple Star vs Napoli Matfia For me Edward Lee is the Ultimate Chef in this competition, no one actually get to his level even the most powerful chef in Korea right now Chef Choi Hyun Seok or the Brighest stars of the Black Spoon "The Triple Star". Anyway Congrats for Natpoli Matfia, His italian cuisine is so powerfull that he trancended to be "The King of Italia From The East", His consistency, ambition, and his wit complemented by his smart brain also is right above others contestant. He deserve to be the champhion actually.
In a way I sort of understand that Matfia ran away with the W here but overall I think few people will come out of this show thinking he proved himself to be the best chef. Not even close. I say I understand why he got the W because Ed Lee went for a dessert... and I do feel like this was probably bound to lose against Matfia going all in, pulling no punches and throwing his very beset at that plate. But when you look at the whole competition... He never lead a team, one of the teams he participated in was eliminated. He's displayed noticeably limited creative range, basically throwing pasta and risotto at every challenge. How would he have fared in the tofu challenge, where he'd have had to come up with a bunch of different ideas? With what he's given us throughout the competition, I seriously doubt that he'd performed well there.
Edward Lee is the true winner. He was so creative the whole competition and in a very dignified and respectful manner, as it should be. Napoli mafia lost my respect. No matter how good your food may be, the fact that his trash talk was so rude and disrespectful towards other chefs, I would never eat at his restaurants. EDWARD LEE TRUE WINNER! 🎉
well deserved finalists! both chefs are polar opposites on their approach towards their dish. edward lee's creativity and storytelling reflects his long experience, deep knowledge and love for korean food and his identity as a korean-american. it was an experimental dish so the taste tho amazing, might not yet reach perfection (this is just an assumption). on the other hand, napoli matfia aka kwon seongjun played his cards right by doing what he does best. it's not easy to make multiple components of food into one coherent dish and yet he did it. considering that this was a dish he had perfected, the taste mustve been spot on with no flaws. tho his storytelling seems a bit lacking on broadcast, he mentioned that a lot of his explanations were cut/not aired. when i heard the full version (check hyeri's youtube with him as guest), i find it very thoughtful and touching. at the end of the day, this is a competition and i think the judges had made the right decision consistently from start to end
I have lots of respect for the judges, but if the producers ever decided to go for a season 2, I really hope that they could bring in 1 or 2 more additional judges. There is so much creativity in the room that goes on every round in this competition and it is such a shame that the show didn't do the competitors justice in the variety of criticisms. I feel that with just 2 men opinions feels lackluster as certain times, as there's just too much food to taste.
Napoli matfia honestly didn’t deserve to win, he got through just making pasta in each round and still somehow managed to win. He would have been out in the tofu challenge for sure. Edward was amazing and a true definition of a chef, making delicious meals on the go under time pressure again and again with all sorts of ingredients. The judges should have revisited their creativity criteria for the final before they voted for this guy.
All RESPECT to the LEGEND EDWARD LEE,❤❤❤❤ kudos to all the dishes he made for that show even he's 2nd placer ,he's genius though,❤❤❤❤ to Napoli matfia be humble dude that's not the basis..
Edward Lee should have won but it was obvious that the show’s premise was to make a black spoon the winner. I couldn’t help but feel this was scripted especially since every challenge had pretty evenly split results between white and black spoons. Considering how innovative and versatile Edward’s cooking was compared to Napoli, he was the obvious winner to me.
Idk every ep. i watched I think you guy only want to promote new gen chef. The white spoon falling very easier and the semifinal competition wasn't fair. Napoli Mafia was win because the store and after that he didn't have to prove anything. But all experiences Cheves had to go to several rounds for Tofu competition. I bet if chef Napoli Mafia has to do tofu like another he won't survive. So the final round they have Edward Lee VS Napoli Mafia. Obviously, they wants the new chef to win so of course. this the the cooking show but still entertaining.
NAPOLI MATFIA FACTS: 1. I watched interviews of him from other content creators and he always say that the editing made him look too arrogant, but instead he was just calm-minded and confident about his cooking skills and the producers/staffs make him rephrase his interviews into a stronger comments so he would embody a strong "mafia" personality on set. (his nickname btw is a wordplay of the word mafia, 'MAT' in korean means 'flavor', and since he is a neapolitan chef, his nickname became NAPOLI MATFIA which means Neapolitan Flavor Gangster) 2. At round 1, he almost got eliminated because of the "unnecessary" flower petals, but you can see that his dish as a whole was a standout among all of the black spoon chefs.. i would say it looked like a painting on a plate. 3. At the 1vs1 challenge (round 2), he won against Chef Fabri because he smartly use all the parts of the skate fish to his dish. 4. At the team challenge (round 3), they lost at their risotto dish, not because the risotto is bad but it is unfortunate that the 98 judges thought that the texture of the risotto as an undercooked rice - that's why Baek Jong Won became worried about this.. If they got judges that knows other cuisines (other that korean/asian), maybe they would win the match.. Their risotto dish was so good that they got the votes of their 2 main judges. 5. At the Convenience Store Challenge (Round 4), they filmed it right after the team challenge (i believe it's 2AM), that's why you can see them looked tired.. and his tiramisu dessert was such a smart move of him.. after all those strong-flavored dishes i would also crave for something sweet.. 6. At the Restaurant Challenge (Round 5), you could see his role as the chef Edward Lee's sous chef was so great that both of them got chosen at the Top 8.. 7. At round 6, he won the challenge as he got the highest score.. And this gave him the express pass to the finals, that's why he didn't cook at the Tofu Hell Challenge (Round 7), the same way Edward Lee didn't cook at the convenience store challenge (Round 4). 8. At the final round, Chef Edward Lee stick to his role of recreating korean cuisine/ingredients into something creative and unexpected, but Napoli Matfia did a smart and strategic move of making his "one-punch" final dish to win the unanimous decision judging.. both of the went to a 'go big or go home' path, but Edward Lee's dish was a huge gamble..
This comment is definitely from a family member or friend of Mafia. He wasn't as creative as the other chefs. Period. Edward Lee is the real winner to the people, which means, he is the true winner 🏆
One thing people should notice is Edward Lee's approach.

Agreed! I was rooting for him to win 😊
During the tofu wars, it was creativity vs execution, thinking outside the box vs frying the same tofu with diff coats and sauces. In the finals again it's thinking outside the box using simple ingredients vs doing what you know (of course your gonna do it well) and using expensive materials. ❤❤❤
Imagine if Chef Choi Hyun Seok didn't forgot the garlic on the furst round of Semi Final.
Entire show Napoli made pasta. Trash bag pasta, grandma’s coin bag pasta, candy shaped pasta and for the finale heart shaped pasta and he won👏
😂😂😂 We get it, he can make pasta. So can 5 year Olds in Italy. He wasn't as creative as others. What else can he cook?
Edward Lee is the people’s winner - he’s humble (unlike Napoli Matfia) , very creative . It’s easy to make a delicious dish with overwhelming ingredients like the Baroque 1995 but extremely difficult to make an outstanding dessert with simple ingredients
For me the final stage is anticlimax.
The Tofu challenge was so amazing, it showed how great the chef is.
Unfortunately on the final, the winner was decided by 1 dish only.
I Love Chef Edward Lee and Natpoli but I wish to see something more than that especially at the final stage.
For the final round, I feel like they should've had to cook an appetizer, main course, and dessert
Edward lee really like to challenges himself, he dare to take a risk..in my heart he is the winner since blind tasting round..when many contestants only do it what in their field he's doin something different
Protect him with all your might. He is very humble, and most of all... He is cute😊❤️
Yes Edward should be the winner and he is the ultimate chef. His expertise is beyond
Chef Edward Lee didn't compete with anyone but himself...He is the winner ,period🙏🙏
Napoli Matfia won the competition. Edward won and restored an identity of his own.
I am in awe of Edward Lee. Such a big fan ❤ Love him so much.
Edward my winner no doubts!❤
에드워드가 영문학과 출신이라서 그런지 스토리텔링은 확실히 잘하네
철학이 담긴 음식 멋지다
Edward Lee I just cried when he was a finaliset with happiness and then I cried when he lost..I just liked him from day 1
Lots of love from India
Both Edward Lee and Napoli Matfia are winners. Edward Lee focus on winning the heart of Koreans and made a solid foundation where he originated from. Napolian Matfia focuses on winning and gaining recognition with take-home money. It is a win-win for both 😍😍
We all know Chef Edward Lee is the Real Champ. The finale should be Edward vs. Triple Stars.
Triple star and Edward Lee should have fight for finals, Napoli is too arrogant, and his dish evolves around Italian food only.
This is the crying moment for me. Good job 이균 !!! You are the winner of this series. Thinking of my grandma :(
i watched this only because of Chef Edward Lee, I hope he will release all his Tofu recipes 😅
Edward Lee is the real MVP! 👑👑
Chef Edward Lee should have won!!! 💔💔💔
@@kingclam88 very fickle they are. Triple star should have played against Edward lee.
bro they have different critera for different stages, the finals was good because it was judged purely on taste like the blindfold test
Edward Lee my fav! Triple star my 2nd fav 🤭
Edward Lee deserve this more, he is creative, he understand and put emotion to every food he prepare
안성재가 에드워드리 음식의 스토리텔링을 듣고 실시간으로 감동을 받는것이 느껴졌음
He's the chef that we trust when there's an apocalypse 💀
Finals should've been 3 dishes like in Masterchef
Korea's best:
The first chef made something extraordinary using authentic Korean ingredients.
The second chef made an Italian dish.
Congratulazioni 🥂
Winner: Matfia
Protagonist: Chef Lee
- Culinary War -
Accept one dessert, all the food made by mafia was pasta
TEAM EDWARD LEE
Edward lee is the winner for me. Napoli mafia wouldnt have made it through even the first couple rounds of the tofu challenge.
Mr Edward Lee.. he is so good. Admirable character..so humble.
The dessert was creative and excellent, but I think making it (as a standalone meal) in the finals might have been a mistake.
The task was to create a dish that could be called their names. Being honest, what dish actually had their name? The other one is just a bunch of italian elements that in no way match the korean pasta guy's name.
One dish screamed I am Edward Lee. The other dish was just I am another italian dish in the bucket.
Expected Final :
1. Edward Lee vs Choi Hyun Seok
2. Edward Lee vs Triple Star
3. Edward Lee vs Napoli Matfia
4. Triple Star vs Napoli Matfia
For me Edward Lee is the Ultimate Chef in this competition, no one actually get to his level even the most powerful chef in Korea right now Chef Choi Hyun Seok or the Brighest stars of the Black Spoon "The Triple Star".
Koreans are corrupted
Edward Lee is the true winner. He was so creative the whole competition and in a very dignified and respectful manner, as it should be. Napoli mafia lost my respect. No matter how good your food may be, the fact that his trash talk was so rude and disrespectful towards other chefs, I would never eat at his restaurants. EDWARD LEE TRUE WINNER! 🎉
Chef edward lee should be the judge instead 🤣
In my view, Edward vs Triple Star was the true finale.
Edward lee was robbed
For me Edward is the most qualified and should be the winner.
well deserved finalists! both chefs are polar opposites on their approach towards their dish. edward lee's creativity and storytelling reflects his long experience, deep knowledge and love for korean food and his identity as a korean-american. it was an experimental dish so the taste tho amazing, might not yet reach perfection (this is just an assumption). on the other hand, napoli matfia aka kwon seongjun played his cards right by doing what he does best. it's not easy to make multiple components of food into one coherent dish and yet he did it. considering that this was a dish he had perfected, the taste mustve been spot on with no flaws. tho his storytelling seems a bit lacking on broadcast, he mentioned that a lot of his explanations were cut/not aired. when i heard the full version (check hyeri's youtube with him as guest), i find it very thoughtful and touching. at the end of the day, this is a competition and i think the judges had made the right decision consistently from start to end
Innovation should’ve won! I mean Tteokbokki as dessert?!?!!! Come on!
This is not Culinary Class Wars, but Pasta Class Wars.
Chef edward lee is the true winner
Me gustó más el enfoque de Edward 👍👍👏👏
I love personality edward lee ..humbel
Los dos chefs eran mis favoritos, pero después de ver dos veces la guerra de cucharas 😅 considero que Edward Lee es el ganador 🏆
Torci tanto por vc Edward Lee😢...Vc é incrível ❤
Tofu hell match between Triple Star and Chef Edward Lee was my real grand final match.
Napoli Matfia is so amazing! I was rooting for him and Chef Lee was also an amazing contender!
NAPOLI MATFIA FACTS:
1. I watched interviews of him from other content creators and he always say that the editing made him look too arrogant, but instead he was just calm-minded and confident about his cooking skills and the producers/staffs make him rephrase his interviews into a stronger comments so he would embody a strong "mafia" personality on set. (his nickname btw is a wordplay of the word mafia, 'MAT' in korean means 'flavor', and since he is a neapolitan chef, his nickname became NAPOLI MATFIA which means Neapolitan Flavor Gangster)
