I’m from Alief, I was like 8 or 9 and I remember going to those Hastings vs Elisk games and watching Carlos Hurt throw up the West when he was getting buckets.
Nostalgic played against all of these cats (Nimitz c/o 2000). I didn't do shhh, lol. As Los said, the energy in the city was on another level, and I am thankful that I got to witness it in real time. I think I was smiling the entire podcast. Great content, Sloan!
I miss those days soooo much. Wish I could go back and relive them. Carlos Hurt was the player I watched the most out of all these. I first saw him as a 7th grader in Killough and instantly felt I was watching a future NBA superstar. Never seen that kinda crazy raw talent again.

I hate I'm just now seeing this....the Era of 2000-2002 in the city of high school basketball was UNREAL...From every angle and corner of the city boys was getting it in. Milby, Elsik, Willowridge, Bellaire, Lamar, Nimitz, Ike, Wheatley, Klein Forest, Booker T, Waltrip, Galveston Ball....man you if you didn't bring your A game you was gonna get your feelings hurt. The hardest team I ever played against was Lamar with Lawrence Roberts and Corey Smith..two monsters. Them boys were strong to the bone! Ike had me sick to with Sloan and Floyd McClain
