The female demon that kills Corkus is the very same demon Guts kills at the start. Berserk literally begins with Corkus being avenged.

Griffith's dream about him and Caska and a son is a nightmare, something he fears might happen, in the dream he is clearly paralyzed and is fed while eating, he has never felt anything for Caska, the only person that griffith has ever loved ( in his perverse and obsessive way) is clearly Guts. the only person who have him forget his dream, he wouldn't have reacted in any way if any of the other hawks quit.

but he cleary liked the band as a whole at his dispossal, he even sold his body for better equipment to a nobel to reduce the losses, ironicly it was a member of the hawk that told him he should not do this for their sake (in retrospec). he may not have a lot of love for the individual exept guts but he clearly needed them for his own selfworth.

@@SPPACATR he was effectively paralyzed. His tendons in his wrists and ankles were cut so he couldn't grip things or even walk. I guess the better term would be "crippled" but at the same time, he knew Casca loved Guts at this point, so I don't understand why he thought he would end up with her.

For clarification, Griffith legitimately does try to kill himself after he falls out of the caravan, he is literally not strong enough to do it, he can't apply enough force to stab his neck. And Griffith does not want Guts to touch him just before the Eclipse because he feels that if Guts tries to save him they will no longer be equals and thus cannot be friends, so Josh is right about Griffith's pride.

I can now officially welcome you all to the band of strugglers. You guys did good! Cody's fascination with all things Skull Knight was like when a kid ditches it's old toy (Guts) for a new one. Mehgan's reaction to the miscarriage was youtube gold and though I'd like to say that corrupted fetus is as bad as it gets for Casca and Guts I fear that we may see similar reacts in the future. Finally, I genuinely appreciate Josh's ability to relate the manga he's reading to his own life. Especially for a work like Berserk it helps demonstrate why such a fantastical story resonates so deeply with it's readers. Anyways, great pod, I look forward to more.

I really liked Megan's analysis, which I had never thought of; Griffith was "destined" to become Femto and he accepted even though it meant sacrificing everyone who tried to help him achieve his dream, but guts who was "destined" to die, just won't follow the rules and keeps on fighting.

  • @IbbyMelbourne

Sorry I'm leaving a whole wall of text haha
I don't think Griffith was just cut and dry bad the entire time. I know there's readers that just want that simple answer, but I think that removes a lot of nuance.
I think Miura was genuinely writing a love triangle, where Guts loved Casca, Casca loved Griffith, and Griffith (romanticly or not) loved Guts but didn't know how to process it.
I think all of Griffiths talk of "only someone with an equal dream can be my friend", is something he's telling himself as a way to justify his actions and how he treats people he cares about. He's a sociopath who's coping with his loneliness and trauma by being possessive. Thinking of his friends as tools, of justifying the psychological trauma he's put himself through for his own ambition, was all denial. His dream was all that matters, but he has this human side to him that he doesn't want other people to see. He might rationally try and justify these things but then stuff happens to him, like:
    - He breaks down in front of Casca, after convincing himself it was necessary to be violated by that old man. "Am I dirty?" He also asks Guts "Do you think that I'm cruel?" He wouldn't be asking if he didn't think about these things.
    - After Guts leaves him, he's heartbroken and lashes out. He throws everything away that night because Guts left, and starts this chain reaction. He's so possessive, that if he can't have Guts, he'll have the princess instead, thinking it'll make him feel better.
    - While lying in the dungeon, he literally says Guts started to shine brighter than his dream. He doesn't understand how to process his feelings.
    - Once they break him out, all he's doing is looking ominously (jealously) at how Guts and Casca are interacting. To him, Casca was his possession, and now she's taking Guts away from him.
    - Right before the eclipse, he overhears Guts and Casca talking about going away together, and that's the moment he runs away and tries to kill himself on a sharp rockface.
    - In the scene in the other dimension, where he's watching his younger self, his inner monologue is all about allowing himself to slip back into ultimate denial. Why should he stop now? Why should he feel bad? Why should he have to cope with the terrible things he's done?

Great comment. i think becoming a demon in berserk isn't just about gaining power, but also and maybe even more so, about avoiding pain. Ultimately, Griffith's choice was about closing off his heart so he would not having to feel the pain of all the people who died for him. There's a moment where he's descending toward the God of the abyss and sees a frozen tear. Read the god's dialogue there, i think it will expand on what I'm saying.

I also wanted to point out something interesting. Femto is a prefix and a unit of measurement. It is 10 to the power of -15 which equals .0000000000000001 or 15 zeros. The way I interpret this it shows how low Griffith has plunged himself into darkness and how infinitesimally small his humanity is now.

    • @Settlers6
      @Settlers6 2 роки тому +4

That's an interesting interpretation. I'm not sure about this, but one interpretation I had, is that it might just be a reference to chance or Femto's "uniqueness", because the Godhands whole thing is causality and chance.
I'm thinking Femto is such a rarity, or the circumstances that caused him to be are. Or that his existence/his power is so rare.
Ultimately, I don't think his name will be something of a plot point, but it's interesting to think about why Miura chose that name.

First of all thanks for that Corkus shout out for all of us Corkus-heads! Berserk is an epic with deep archetypical and philosophical themes. I always found such a bittersweet realization that Guts had no purpose or goal and just "struggled" for the sake of living. In the end he ends up with a purpose, a dream, a goal of revenge but, it was exactly like the bonfire metaphor. Fire can warm you but, it can also burn you. Guts has a raging fire of a revenge dream. Guts also wanted to challenge himself with ever stronger opponents but, it was not the way anyone would have wanted. At the cost of everyone he loved, Guts also achieved his dream much like Griffith in an ironic twist. Its amazing the way Miura weaved the story and brings us full circle

What makes it so visceral is due to how many many emotions Guts is feeling during the Eclipse up to that moment, terror, despair, betrayal, confusion, but as soon as he realizes what Griffith is about to do to Casca all of that gets replaced with a hate and rage so overwhelming that it overrides literally everything, the only thing he cared about in that moment was brutalizing Griffith and if he needs to hack off his own arm to get to him that doesn't matter.

I started Berserk when quarantine started and it became my favorite thing ever. I've seen some disturbing shit in fiction but NOTHING holds a candle to the eclipse, it made me feel physically ill, i read Casca's scene in the manga and watched it in the anime and movies and i can't watch it again, every time she appears i genuinely fear for her, its a shame Miura will never complete his vision and we will never see it, hopefully his students can capture a fraction of his spirit and give us a somewhat satisfying ending. One thing that gives me hope is something Miura said in an interview “I actually don't think I could let such a long grim story end with a grim ending”

I don't know guys, i can't either hate or simpatize with Griffith, is actually something in the middle. He's such a complex character, his pursuit for his dream was so strong that he thought if he didn't continue it , all those deaths(in his wars) would be meaningless. Of course it doesn't justifes sacrificing his comrades and his only friend Guts and especially doing that to Casca out of spite for Guts. The law of causality and also fate had a great influence in the direction of the story as you have seen and will continue to see. Great video as always until now, keep up with the series!

My full thoughts on this are a bit too long for a youtube comment.
Griffith has never had any romantic feelings for Casca. His dream about them being married is a life he could've had at any point had he desired it, but it's not a life he could've been content with or was destined for, that's why the behelit appears in the spoon. The reason he glares at Guts and Casca is because Casca used to be entirely devoted to him, but seeing her torn between him and Guts just hammers home the reason for Griffith's breakdown to begin with. He used to be in control of Guts, but over time without Griffith noticing it their roles switched and Guts gained control over him. Ultimately it is Guts trying to break free from Griffith and Griffith who cannot stand being without him. Even his control of Casca has been partially lost to Guts. To Griffith Casca just becomes a tool to re-establish his power over Guts.

Kentaro’s death hit me harder than I thought it would, not knowing how it’ll end is very sad, but he dedicated his life to giving us this masterpiece and doing what he loved. I learned that both of his parents were artists, the man is a true genius. May he Rest In Peace.

  • @gloomsi
    @gloomsi 3 роки тому +17

Yeah Griffith's whole thing is an extreme version of the sunken cost fallacy. So many people have already died for him, the band of the hawk was going to dedicate their lives to take care of him now that he's broken, so to him using their lives to achieve his dream didn't seem so insane. Not to mention he was so broken both in mind and body from the torture I honestly can't blame him for wanting a 'reset' button to have a working body back.
Personally, for me, Griffith was still redeemable even after the sacrifice, but him revelling in it and what he did to Casca for no reason other than malice is what made him unforgivable. Interestingly though, the stuff that makes him unforgivable (to me) happens when he's Femto, and not technically Griffith anymore.
Anyway not trying to be a Griffith apologist, but I do really love a relatable antagonist and that I can 100% see how they took the path they did.

Thanks for another great discussion y'all! I love listening to y'all experience this story for the first time, it brings such a freshness to the whole enjoyment of the series.
    Some things:
    1) Griffith didn't know about the Godhand and Eclipse coming/what the Behelit would summon.
    2) It's definitely a control thing whenever it has anything to do with Guts/Casca, as while it's true that Griffith loves/is in love with Guts, he doesn't know HOW to actually love someone in a healthy way so he is obsessed with having both Guts and Casca be under his control and devoted completely to him--not each other. Guts is the favorite but it doesn't change that he's also a control freak with Casca.
    3) He doesn't want Guts to touch him because he wants to be able to hold onto the hatred that's cultivated for Guts while he was being tortured, but letting Guts comfort him would force him to have to confront his new reality/the truth of his new situation now that he's been mutilated and how that would be the end of his dream.
    4) The demon that eats Corkus actually IS the same demon from the opening scene that Guts kills after luring her with sex.
    5) I can't find the interview but Miura-sensei had some feelings about how he'd depicted sexual violence earlier on in his creating of Berserk. I'd put Casca's rape, in how it was depicted, into the weirdly sexual depictions of assault/sexual violence pile, personally. You'll see a lot of fans not really factor Casca in as a major driving force for the story even though it's foreshadowed with what he does in the wagon and then made crystal clear at the end of the Eclipse that she is. This is clear in the fact that he forces Guts to watch him violate Casca, while also making the conscious decision to NOT kill her, which is not only a punishment for them both but a clear act of domination/putting them back in their "places". Just wanted to mention this cause it happens in fan discussions of the Eclipse and is a very weird thing to see talked about as if it's only to hurt Guts, especially when he's not the one it's being done to in a story where it's clear if the author wanted it to be done to Guts himself their is president for it. I think it's clearer in the aftermath/with the consequences of the Eclipse that it was very much a traumatic assault but it coulda been clearer, imo, in how it was depicted during the actual assault. *shrug*
    6) The Holy See definitely has got it wrong :S
    7) It wasn't confirmed until very recently that Skull Knight was in fact Gaeseric, even though it was a major fan theory for decades, so it's great to see you all jump right onto it. Don't consider this a spoiler cause y'all discuss it as if it's already confirmed anyways.
    8) As far as Guts getting all his equipment goes don't worry, this isn't his final power up at all, though it's mostly establishing his mainstay of tools. Unlike a shonen, he doesn't get constant boosts and his abilities will be coming at a cost.
    9) Miura actually didn't have the whole thing planned out/hadn't planned very far when it first started releasing. So it's absolutely wild how all his elements end up falling into place. He hadn't even planned Guts and Casca getting together in the initial chapters with the Demon Fetus! Miura-sensei was truly a writer of a generation.
    10) Skull Knight [aka Calcium-chan] is definitely meant to be a mirror for what Guts' character could be. I don't wanna spoil but you'll see it as you continue to read more and more.
As a final note, trust me when I say y'all are going to love the most recent Guts, he keeps growing as a man and it really is beautiful to see. Berserk isn't ultimately a story interested in glorifying revenge and wallowing in hatred, self-pity, and ones base emotions so I can't wait for y'all to see how Guts evolves past The Black Swordsman in the next arc.
Bonus: Alpha/Beta/etc isn't actually a real dynamic in wild wolf packs. The leaders of packs are the parents and essentially a pack is a family consisting of breeding pair and their pups. Still relevant to the story and Guts but not in the same way.

Yes, as griffith himself mentioned, he had a tough mentality which is what kept his sanity over time. The only thing that kept him going throught that whole year was his dream, and the thought of going through that torture for him not to achive it was his breaking point. He just wasnt in the right headspace.

Ah, new strugglers! These discussions were some of the best I've heard from newcomers, it's been great seeing you falling in love with this classic tale. This was just the start, the story expands and steadily evolves and has many more iconic moments, new characters, new concepts, intense, horrific situations but also many emotional moments of true beauty and mature storytelling. You're in for a treat. Someday, you'll catch up and then the real struggle will begin, due to the tragic death of Miura (so young, only 54, when he finished the Eclipse he was around 29-30!) and the realization that Berserk will remain an unfinished masterpiece... We are still trying to process it, this whole situation is gonna leave a permanent scar. Great work guys and gal, can't wait for the next one.

I'm a bit jealous that he is just now getting to dive into it but I'm excited to discuss it with him while he's still learning what's up with the world. The Golden Age is so fantastic that I can't wait for him to finish that up. I even started watching the 97 anime again to kinda see that arc one more time.

I’m one of those people who unintentionally read the story Golden Age Arc first. The website I used started the chapters after the 3 year timeskip of Guts with the hawks. It was until I was into the Millennium Falcon Arc that I realized.
So going back and reading Black-swordsman through the start of Golden age was a major whiplash of character development and writing. Not to mention the art progression.
So initially I didn’t care for the Black-swordsman arc at all. But upon rereading (the correct order) I like it a lot more. That and this podcast helped showcase the perspective of experiencing it first as intended

I was devastated when news of Miura's death hit me and it has felt so weird ever since, feels like I haven't been able to process it and honestly feels like I never willm really, feels so unreal... Anyway I had some time over the other day and listened to the latest Skullknight.net "skullcast" pod, where some core members gathered and talked about Miura and their feelings towards him and his loved work. As soon as the episode ended I immediately felt what I can only describe as desperation to keep listening to people talk about Berserk/Miura, like a mad man I started searching for more pods and this is when I found this review series, I got hooked pretty quick by you guys' style and it's been really nice following your journey this far and how much you truly seem to appreciate Berserk/Miura's beautiful, haunting and epic writing.
You sounded so sad that it's over, I really hope you were just talking about the Golden Age Arc ending and not this review series! 😬 It means a lot to me and I'm sure a lot of other fans as well, and I mean there's absolutely NO REASON to not keep going... You seem to enjoy sharing your thoughts and feelings and disussing everything this work of art has to offer so why not keep recording/filming it for the rest of us as well? Please? 🙂
I had a lot of points here and there from your discussions I wanted to address but don't remember everything since I blew through these reviews but I think I can pretty much summarize everything in one point.
Not saying you guys establish the contrary but often in Berserk I don't think there's necessary one "right" answer to some of the mysteries, "either/or" ect... I think intentional ambiguity is somewhat of a recurring theme Berserk once you truly dissect it. I personally love that. To be able to create these big discussions is a good testament to that, people will always have their opinions and that's fine and interesting even, they may very well be right in some cases.

I think my favourite part about Berserk is the fact that Miura made you understand Griffith as a villain without making him sympathetic. So many times in stories they try to make the villain understandable and sympathetic but in reality they’re still just complete assholes who you don’t care about. Griffith is an irredeemable asshole but every decision he makes, I get why he thinks it’s ok. He’s not right but It’s never out of character. Also love the fact that he actually fucks up. When I first saw him I though, “Ok let me guess. He’s this really cold calm and calculated guy and everything goes exactly according to his plan and he’s planned everything down to the smallest detail.” But then he actually fucks up because of his feelings. I always like it when the villain isn’t this over the top mastermind who predicted everything.

First of all, words can’t express how much I look forward to seeing you and others getting to experience Berserk for the very first time. I made three playlists all with different types of songs. I was very selective with my song selection, mostly focusing on Susumu Hirasawa songs and exclusive Berserk OST’s from games and anime.
Hearing these songs while reading the manga enhances the experience, however, don’t feel like you always need to have a song playing in the background. Some songs are loops and some are not. Feel free to give me feedback if you prefer long looped songs versus shorter ones as well as the order of the song selection.
If you want to loop a song and are playing it on the computer, right click the video and click “loop”.
I want to ensure that you see this, so I’ll post this on every Berserk video that you’ve made. Thanks again for the content, I look forward to your future videos. - Danel

U guys are right about casca requiring someone to feel complete, her name infact means a shell which is very apt.
The reason as to why casca was dazed and not herself is because she was sexually assaulted by the apostles before Griffith came and took her. She wasn't just raped by Griffith, prior to that she was most like assaulted by a group of apostles and they were going to kill her if not for Griffith. She is so lost because of the mental and physical trauma prior to Griffith just wrecking her, that she doesn't even see that Griffith looks different. She just calls him Griffith and is totally lost.

Of all the fan favourite characters I think the Skull Knight is without a doubt the most beloved. You say people don't mention Skull Knight but if you venture into the Berserk fandom he is one of the most consistently talked about characters. He's just really awesome. At one point he infamously calls Slan (The female God Hand member) 'The Whore Princess of the Uterine Sea'... Like he just straight up calls her that to her face... I don't even fully understand what that means but it sounds like it cuts deep- his insult game is on another level.

There is an ongoing joke in the community of Berserk that Griffith did nothing wrong and that has always got me thinking. If these God Hand are the true top power of that universe in leu of a benevolent God like in Christianity (assuming there isn't some kind of anti God Hand) then does that mean that the universal morality of that universe truly allows for Griffith to perform the actions he does while being able to claim that he "did nothing wrong"? Though I guess that also brings up the question of what right of power a God like presence has over the universal morality of their respective universe and when that right becomes absolute.
(this comes from the perspective of a guy who believes in God and the idea of objective/universal morality)

    • @japre8
      @japre8 3 роки тому +3

The God hand are not the top power in the Berserk universe. They are the executors of the will of a higher power. There is a removed chapter which introduces the being “the idea of evil” that explains the concept of god in this universe, but Miura removed it because he felt it gave too much away too early in his story. The UA-camrs Real Life Ryan and The Masked Man have good videos that dive into that “lost” chapter of berserk if you’re interested in learning more.

    • @kaybaumann4989

There is a god which bidding the God Hand does, the Idea of Evil.
The chapter got taken out as Moira thought it reveals too much too early but most fans have read it thanks to the internet over the years anyway.
I think it’s an awesome concept too bad we’ll likely never see it properly integrated in the story. I do like that in later chapters when Guts and his crew try to safe a town Schierke tells the priest when the town is saved that the spirits she invoked to wash away the trolls are essentially the same as angles in his bible just with different names. They still worship the same positive power when they pray or she cast spells, as a witch she just has a way deeper connection.
But this inspires the priest and towns people to make a shire to these elemental beings and prey to them as well.

The Christian God is claimed to be a omnibenevolent being. Yet endorses actions in his name that I can clearly say are immoral. If there is some moral code that we are imbued with then why can we disobey it? Morality is inherently subjective from what we can observe of reality. It's a human construct.

    • @304Blaise
      @304Blaise 3 роки тому

I think the point of it should be to make you question ideas about morality and divinity. I personally believe the god hand and the “god” shown in the lost chapter represent something closer to a “demiurge” like being. That said, based on the convocation arc I’d say Miura had some real issues with monotheism.

Remember when Griffith used to enjoy his time with the people around him and cared for them, when he was, Human.
I like to think that the daydream of having a family with Casca and the dog was probably a "what could have been" scenario. If he didn't act out after Guts left, if he actually spoke his mind thoroughly to the band, Casca, started to realize he's already equal to them.
At the point of the Eclipse, it heavily emphasizes Griffith is nothing more than a husk of his former self. Obviously physically but also mentally as he went far as to try and kill himself. And whether he fully gave into sacrificing the Band of the Hawk, or was even manipulated by the Godhand, IN THE MOMENT(which is still debated even till now) he still knew he wanted to be able to achieve something greater. Something Personal to him. But Guts of all people helped him realize he's already an equal his friend, but knowing so, meant his dream is halted, blocked. Not allowed to happen.
So he took another step, but it didn't go up. And Femto was born.

So uhh, I realize one of my earlier comments MIGHT have made it seem like I thought Griffith wasn’t in the wrong - or that I implicitly condone his actions. I didn’t want to say any spoilers so I didn’t elaborate at the time
I’m going to *try* to elaborate what I meant. Phew here it goes… So my PERSONAL interpretation (that some other people share) is that Griffith was absolutely a selfish and manipulative individual - but he wasn’t a completely evil psychopath with no regard for human life. Similar to how most of us know some very driven and successful people in real life who aren’t evil, but are absolutely selfish and will do a lot (but not anything) to get ahead.
I don’t think he would have sacrificed the band of the hawk if it weren’t for all of the preceding events. Two points in the story it shows the little boy with the doll who died - and both times Griffith shows guilt. To me that implies Miura wanted to display that he does value human life - but starts to emotionally distance himself from his soldiers in order to be a more effective leader - due to the inevitability of losing soldiers in war.
To me, it made more sense thematically to see Griffith as a once normal-ish boy who was gradually corrupted by his own ambition (and other external factors). So addressing the choice to sacrifice…
Like we see with some earlier and later chapters - the Behelit is only activated when you are so broken down that it is (almost) a guarantee that you will choose the sacrifice (which is sort of the tragedy of the whole thing). So the whole year of brutal torture - will have a substantial impact on not just your body, but also your mind and will change you as a person. So it made sense narratively that he had to be broken down in order to actually make the sacrifice - and coerced by the rest of the Godhand (due to causality). And even then, you have to sacrifice something that you actually care for. I think his choice to sacrifice at that point was simultaneously 100% wrong/immoral, but also very human/understandable if that makes sense (in the way that lots of not evil people can be capable of great evil under certain circumstances)
And the last thing - in regards to the BIG evil action with Casca during the eclipse. When you become a demon you lose almost all your humanity - and you basically become a more evil version of yourself. So I don’t THINK Griffith pre-eclipse would have done that, but obviously I don’t know that.
So that’s why narratively/thematically it didn’t make much sense to me to view him as a villain who was just plain evil the whole time. I totally see why people don’t see it that way though
That being said… regardless of who he was before, Femto/Griffith IS evil now and I hope Guts arm canons his face off. I hope I made sense and didn’t just come off as someone with no empathy, I promise I’m not lol! I could write a lot more but I don’t want to be the guy who writes a whole essay in a UA-cam comment

I always took that one scene where Griffith pushes himself onto Casca in his broken form as an attempt to sexually assault her. And it looked like Casca realized exactly what was happening. I think seeing his most loyal companion "betraying" her undying love for him and getting in a relationship with Guts hurt him to the point of insane jealousy and hatred for both. Perhaps it also made him realize he's not even a man anymore. Basically, he already wanted to hurt them, Eclipse just gave him wings to do it.
Well woops, they said exactly that lmao

I think something that people tend to gloss over or ignore when talking about this part of the story is just how much Guts loved Griffith.
No, I'm not talking about the gay theory (griffith cared about as much for Guts as you would care about your cellphone), but how much Guts didn't see Griffith as just a friend sees a friend. But he probably saw him more like Peter saw Jesus.
Griffith and the band of the Hawks was the first time in Guts life where he felt at home, where he felt like he had friends, a family, people who genuinely cared about him and Griffirh was the man who gave him that. When he overheard Griffith tell that "not my friend" speech, think about how devastating that must have been, especially after what he did.
Guts left the band of the Hawk simply so one day Griffith could see him as an equal. When he found out Griffith was imprisoned, he abandon everything to help save him. Truly, the only person more important to Guts is Casca.
Now think about that when you think about the eclipse. Think about that when Guts watched the second most important person in his entire life do to the most important person in his life, probably knowing full well how Guts would react to that act.
To me, its not only that Black Swordsman Guts is traumatised, its also that he's disillusioned, betrayed at such a fundemental level.

  • @FuckYoutubeAndGoogle
    @FuckYoutubeAndGoogle 3 роки тому +2

Griffith did not have romantic feelings for Casca, and in my opinion, he doesn't have romantic feelings for anyone. His existence is sort of "above" sexuality, it's merely a means to an end for him. In every scene he engages in sexual activity in he always has an ulterior motive. This is contrasted by Guts and Casca's scene which is clearly motivated purely by romantic love.
Griffith's day dream about being married to Casca isn't what he wants, he's impotent and completely reliant on Casca, it's basically his worst nightmare.

One thing I haven't seen being talked about is how the godhand manipulated the entire situation. I disagree when you guys say that they just made him accept everything he is. Well yes and no, i feel like ubik only showed him what he wanted to hear to make the sacrifice. They never touched on the positives that Griffith had as a human...at all. Griffith was drunk with ambition, but he had a human side to him. He always put up a brave face as being the leader. His reactions after the child soldier dying, him sleeping with the governor and him sleeping with Charlotte show that he isn't as EVIL. The godhand did shine a light on his darker shades, but kept him in the dark regarding his good side. You can see that Griffith is torn ever since his rescue. From trying to choke guts to embracing him, not wanting him to come and comfort him, trying to hold onto him while the altar rises even though it was the broken hand and guts hence falls. Even when he goes inside the cocoon, the look he has isn't something full of smite rage or hatred, it is just acceptance of his darker side. The godhand just barely manipulated the narrative to push Griffith into the darkness, and they keep doing that. They move the things just slightly.

Don't know if you know this but Judeau was actually in love with Casca but didn't have the courage to say anything

When I finished this arc, I couldn't pick up Berserk for awhile. The emotions this manga brought out of me was heavy shit. I poured one for the homies .

Wrong he stopped the killing himself because he saw the behelit in the water it gave him a new hope "this is fated i can still get my castle". But it does puzzle me why Griffith said "get back, get away from me" maybe he was afraid someone will take the power before he can

IMO the arks don’t get worse they actually have better character development fr. It’s just when people are reading them there are a lot of hiatuses so it makes people view it differently. If you read them back to back you can see the story telling everyone drops

What's worse? sacrifice a few dozen more people to reach your goal or give up everything and ignore the thousands of people who died for you or were killed in battle to get where you are? The decision is not that easy especially when you are tortured for a year.

Exactly. I don't forgive Griffith, but it was a horrible situation and I'd probably have done the same thing in his place after being turned into basically a vegetable. The thing that made him unforgivable to me wasn't the sacrifice, but that he revelled in it.
